Americamps RV Resort, Ashland, Virginia

Date of Stay: November, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Great place to stay near Richmond, VA. It's just off the interstate (yes you can hear noise for it) and easy to get to. The sites are very level and everything is maintained well. The waffle breakfasts area treat and the showers are clean and hot. We camped at Americamps RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Warriors Path State Park, Kingsport, Tennessee

Date of Stay: November, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

I am partial to state campground and liked this one quite a bit. The sites a small but well designed. There's a nice little shop and check-in facility. The bathroom/showers were clean and the water hot. They could have been pitched better so take some plastic bags with you if you shower. We camped at Warriors Path State Park in a Motorhome.

Dixie Caverns Campground, Salem, Virginia

Date of Stay: November, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older campground that could use an update. It's quiet and flat and set alongside of a mountain that the cave is in. They sites have 50 amps and water/sewer. It's fine for a stop-over and very comfortable. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

White Acres Campground, Bardstown, Kentucky

Date of Stay: November, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a smaller campground in Bardstown, KT. It has a clean but dated restroom with showers. They were warm. The lots are flat and bare. there is some over night lighting. The owner didn't bother to clean the ice off the very steep ramp to enter the building to register which I thought wasn't welcoming. He did have brochures and information about the area. We camped at White Acres Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a small spotless campground that is very new. The sites are very level with as many hookups as you would like. The campground hosts were gracious and clearly serious about their jobs. We camped at Echo Bluff State Park in a Motorhome.

There's lots of hiking and a lodge nearby that you can go to for a "restaurant" meal. I think the sites on the outside rings offer more privacy.

Laura Ingalls Wilder RV Park and Campground, Mansfield, Missouri

Date of Stay: November, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We like these small quiet RV parks. This one did not disappoint. The shower/ bathroom is an interesting set up with private rooms for men and women in the same building. This same room also holds two washers and two dryers. The Laura Ingalls Wilder site is across the road nearby. We camped at Laura Ingalls Wilder RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We visited the Laura Ingalls Wilder site from here as well as the Baker Creek seed company- there's a delicious bakery there. We also walked to the "at your own risk cave" which was interesting. We're not daring but gave it a try for about 0.25 miles.

Ballards Campground, Carthage, Missouri

Date of Stay: November, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a tiny RV park with a very nice and attentive owner. It was cold so we didn't hook up to sewer. The owner has heat tape on the water feed. There are clean showers that have incredibly hot showers! We tend to like these no frills small private campgrounds and this did not disappoint. We camped at Ballards Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a small park that was a great place to stop and use as a way point to visit Springfield and various Lincoln parks/ sites. The sites are close together. There is a small building with two showers and a washer and dryer. We found the hosts to be some of the nicest people we've met on the road. We camped at McMillen's Camp-A-While in a Motorhome.

Twin Acres Campground, Whitehouse, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We're staying here for 3 nights, the woman signing us in last night was very helpful and friendly. It looks like it is largely a residential camp with about 20 open spots for travelers. There is only one shower but it was one of the best designed we've found. We caught up with laundry and cleaning while here. We camped at Twin Acres Campground in a Motorhome.

Cunningham Falls State Park - Manor Area Campground, Thurmont, Maryland

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice little spot that doesn't take reservations. The sites were taken quickly on the weekend. We arrived around 1:00PM on a Friday and didn't have any trouble closing a spot. The sites are nicely leveled and some have electric hook-up. The water spigots are located along the roads and generally not in level areas so it's difficult to tell if you are full or not. There is no dump station. The restrooms were clean and the showers some of the nicest we've been to in a state park. This campground is right off the highway and there is truck noise at all sites. We camped at Cunningham Falls State Park - Manor Area Campground in a Motorhome.

There are all kinds of trails and things to see at the State park and Catoctin. It might be difficult to get an RV into parking at the visitor parking lot at Catoctin on the weekend but in the trail parking we had no problems.
