Grand View Campground and RV Park, Shelby, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Many campers were permanent or at least long-term residents. Most probably working jobs nearby. Quite a bit of junk around the sites (old barber chair laying on its side for example). Junky all around. The big water slide they have on the web site is pretty dirty looking. But some kids were on it. They have a new section or two near the creek but the gravel is WAY loose and the road is pretty steep. One guy couldn't tow his camper out due to loose gravel. I never saw the owners but exchanged emails with them. One BIG thing on my list was the dogs weren't on leashes. Several campers had dogs w/no leash. They were very well behaved dogs though. But still... The tiny cabins are new but need to be finished and cleaned. I will say the river is great for wading. Kind of a 4wd road to get to it (not really but it's not a great road either). But the water is inches to a couple feet deep, and quite calm but moving. Clear water and a nice scene. That was the best part really. We camped at Grand View Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

I stay here a night or two every July and it is great. Beautiful scenery, great playground. Easy to get to. Nice small campground store (tiny, but neat). Hard to find much wrong with it. Wish I could make online reservations. We camped at Camp Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Lake Powhatan Recreation Area, Asheville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2008 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

A very private park and gives you the real camping experience. We camped in a 37' motor home and towing a Jeep and we had no trouble making the turn at the dump station. True we did walk through that loop before doing it, but it wasn't an issue really. We swung wide and all that but made it easy. Plenty of spigots around the campground to get water as needed, just not on any campsites. I think you could drive up to one in your RV/camper and fill up without any trouble though. It is easy to get to and the roads aren't too steep or winding. We love it. They are closed for several winter months so be aware of that. We camped at Lake Powhatan Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground, Swannanoa, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2008 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

The only thing I can take off for is the steepness of the approach road and the road to our campground. Both are very to extremely steep. Now we made it up the hills no problem, it is just a little spooky until you do it. Also, we were in a 37' RV towing a Jeep and had no issue making any of the turns. Besides that, the sites were great and the view awesome! Fantastic help from the people working there too. They helped me back into our site and were very friendly and helpful. We'll stay there again for sure. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Camp Creek State Park, Camp Creek, West Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2008 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Don't let the fact that water hookups aren't available scare you away. It is a very NICE state park with large camp sites. Very friendly and helpful hosts. This is a great place! When you exit off the interstate (the campground is maybe 1.5 miles off I-77) follow the signs to the campground. Do not be fooled by the other campground that is there. I think it is named Camp Creek Campground or something like that. Go past it and continue on that road. It becomes the campground road. We camped at Camp Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground, Chimney Rock, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2008 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice campground. River front sites are great if you like to sit on giant rocks in the middle of a cold mountain stream. Some roads in the campground are very steep. Main entrance/road not too steep though. We camped at Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground in a Motorhome.
