Craters of the Moon National Monument/Lava Flow Campground, Arco, Idaho

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

Actually $7.50 with the senior bass . Since last time I've been here this campground has been thoroughly updated from asphalt driveway loops to visitor center to restrooms . They even colored the concrete black or lava color to blend with the surrounding areas. This is strictly dry camping they do have water Spicket's throughout the campground seen people adding water to the tanks with 5 gallon jugs so come prepared . Very quiet did not hear any excessive generator use. Great place to visit . We camped at Craters of the Moon National Monument/Lava Flow Campground in a Motorhome.

New Frontier RV Park, Winnemucca, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Didn't stay here long enough to really evaluate everything but for one night stay through Passport America you can't beat the park, and you can't beat the price. Needed a stop for one night and leave the next day the two parks across the street were more than double what this park charged so we decided to stay at the New Frontier. One thing I might add is when you use the Passport America they only offer you a back in which that's fine I can live with that. One other thing that was an inconvenience is the trash was at the opposite end of the park, but for the price I'm not gonna complane, it was great. We camped at New Frontier RV Park in a Motorhome.

Did not try the restaurant on site wingers heard good things but we were running other places , if you get the chance for breakfast try The Griddle on Winnemucca boulevard, very good . Also when coming either east or west take exit 180 it will be the first RV Park you come to and when you leave go the same way very easy on and off.

Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort (formerly Terrible's Gold Ranch Casino), Verdi, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

You really don't get to know an RV park until you've stayed there at least a month I have visited this park many times in the past on weekly visits and always give it a 10, not that it's not deserving of a 10 it's just that when you're here a month there's certain things that let's just say irritate you more than if you we're only here for a day or two or week. Most sites you have an orientation facing south west more south then west so you pick up the sun all day long which in essence no shade so you run your air conditioning pretty much all day tell the sun drops down below the mountains and then you can open your windows and cool off naturally. I was very disappointed in the Laundry Mat we used it three times there was only three dryers out of seven that worked, and there was a lot of hair on top of the washers that needed to be cleaned off I did my best but that's not my job!! While the ladies in the office are the best and very accommodating they probably can only take these complaints and pass them up. I don't want to beat this place up too bad because it is a very nice place to stay with out resort fees and it is very accommodating it's just after spending a month you see things that you don't normally see on a short stay. Traffic noise because you run parallel to I 80 is not bad probably if anything you hear the train more than you do the traffic at certain times during the night. Like I said we will stay here again the monthly rate is an excellent rate for what you get, your far enough away from Reno to enjoy it but not be part of it. We camped here in a motorhome . We camped at Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort (formerly Terrible's Gold Ranch Casino) in a Motorhome.

Grand Sierra Resort RV Park, Reno, Nevada

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $71.00
Overall Rating:

Last time I rated this Park I gave it a five. Well I bumped it two points it looks like some of the things I complained about they fixed. But keep in mind the only reason I stay here is because of the Hot August Nights and I am a car participant. The price is an average of over 10 nights, which is still a ridiculous price but that's how they justify keeping this park outback it is hundred percent full during this time. It appears they upgraded their bathrooms they re-sealed and paved areas up in the front area put in some new vicious speed bumps , got rid of 95% of the puncture vines that were surrounding all the water areas outback, they put in new red rock, good dog parks looked clean with trash cans and bags and new gravel in there. I could see some improvements but I still can't give it anything better than a seven. This park is very convenient for hot August nights you are there for the bands you are there for the cars I will continue to use this park during that time period and that's pretty much it. It is probably a negative tip but I think everybody should be aware of it prior to going to RV parks in Reno there is a resort fee added to all RV spots until something changes, economy takes a dump whatever that is the case.

Elks Lodge #1900 (Members Only), Woodbridge, California

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This Elks lodge is a nice stop over we stayed here for a few days to take in the wineries (86 of) and a local event that was put on at the fairgrounds . Parking is a little bit tight you will not be able to leave your tow vehicle hooked up but there is parking in the parking lot with the rest of the members is where you will have to park your tow vehicle . Your pull in spot will give you a nice park like setting view with squirrels running on a large grass area. You have water and electricity and you will either have a 30 or 50 amp power we were in a 50 amp spot but most are 30 amp. There is no dry camping here it is strictly whatever they have available in the hook up spots. We would definitely camp here again . We camped at Elks Lodge #1900 (Members Only) in a Motorhome.

Elks Lodge #2670 (Members Only), Minden, Nevada

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

I very seldom get to post back to back reviews specially when they're 9 to 11 months apart . But let me just say this, coming from Reno area where I had to pay at the Grand Sierra what I had to pay and resort fees it completely takes the fun out of what you're therefore, this lodge is a short term stay for anybody passing through yet it has 50 amp power it does have water if you need to fill your tank there is no dump, but remember it's just here for short term stay. For some reason the traffic wasn't as bad this time as the last time we visited not sure if the gravel/road repair yard across the street was not in full swing but it was more quiet , but I will say this you better have your nights sleep in by 7 o'clock in the morning because the traffic does get cranked up and it does get noisy. Another thing I noticed this time is there was more people here, the lodge said that the campground's five spots have been pretty much booked all summer . I will say this when you are backing into the spots make sure you have a good spotter the spots are kind of pie shaped and it is possible to get closer to your neighbor than you should be when backing in be careful. We definitely would stay here again . We camped at Elks Lodge #2670 (Members Only) in a Motorhome.

Grand Sierra Resort RV Park, Reno, Nevada

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $83.00
Overall Rating:

Don't really know where to start but I'll give it my best shot. From a business standpoint I get it when there's a special event in town Hot August nights etc. get every penny you can and believe me they do. From a camping standpoint this campground has run its course. The nightly cost with the good Sam discount and we spent eight days there we were at $83 a night(ridiculous) but they also add a resort fee which for eight days cost us $135 this is part of that $83 a night. I have made up my mind that unless I am here for a special event I will bypass Reno they do not need my money they got enough. The campground is in dire need of some TLC. They keep saying they're going to upgrade but the manager says don't count on it, the money gets spent before it ever dwindles down to the RV campground. We had a 30 amp pull-through. It was on a gravel rock base, somewhat dusty, but pulling a car trailer and being as long as we were it worked out fine. Here's a good one every spot out in the back lot. By the water and sewer dump around each site had a 4 x 8 patch of goat-head puncture vines. This is ridiculous; these are aggressive nuisance plants that get spread everywhere and your pets can't walk. it was a mess. I couldn't believe it. They should've been sprayed with some sort of weed spray and completely eliminated. There is just absolutely zero maintenance unless something breaks in the park. The only good things I can say is during Hot August Nights this campground is convenient to all the concerts going on and also a good place to be if you have a car, other than that go somewhere else. We camped at Grand Sierra Resort RV Park in a Motorhome.

Comstock Country RV Resort, Carson City, Nevada

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

I might have rated this campground a little too high according to some of my fellow RV'ers, but ratings are based on experience and I had a very good experience . First of all we're 65 foot long with the car trailer, the lady at the front desk was very very efficient got us in and out of there in no time we parked up the hill on an outside spot and are turning radius for getting out was probably the best you could expect in a park that is in some areas very tight. As far as cleanliness in this park has a lot of what I call work campers people that are staying here extended time not permanent but you're working in the area and leave early come in late and do their thing and the park is maintained very well you wouldn't know it and less you were aware that this was going on. Truthfully I had not been back to this park in over 25 years it has made some drastic improvements . Did not use the laundry room or the bathrooms but everything appeared from the outside very tidy and neat looking the asphalt was very clean it just had a well-kept appearance . I would stay here again if in the area I always used the gold dust when in the area but I would stay here instead. We camped at Comstock Country RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort (formerly Terrible's Gold Ranch Casino), Verdi, Nevada

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stay at this park on occasions, mostly in the fall when the weather is cooler this time it was in the middle of July. Have no complaints the power was very good the site we got in was an end sight, One of the only problems was there was a lot of fires going on in California and the smoke was terrible you could barely see the mountains surrounding this campground, this was no fault of the campground but it's what you had to deal with while you were here. The help they have here is very very nice very accommodating. We look forward to our return visits to this park . Tips for other Campers:

Casino restaurant attached to RV park was very reasonable food was better than average. The only thing I might add as a cautionary is when you are leaving the park heading to Reno the first on ramp to go to Reno has very little run out distance in other words if there's a lot of traffic let it go because there is no good merging space or roadway.

Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort, Plymouth, California

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

This is basically a weekend warrior campground with permanent residents scattered about after the weekend warriors are all gone. My understanding is this is now owned corporate instead of by locals, which kind of makes sense because a lot of times when that happens they come in they raise the prices, but make minimal upgrades and that is definitely the case here. We stayed here a lot back in the early 90s, mid 90s and early 2000's, and I can tell you this other than the grass getting mowed, none of electrical boxes have been upgraded, sewer still the same, pretty much minimal TLC which is too bad. Roads are still the same, in fact worse, because nothing's been done to basically asphalt patched potholes. Another thing I have a big problem with is they took full payment from me for a week - three weeks in advance, with no refund within 14 days of my arrival date. This is wrong, totally wrong. In fact I don't even know if it's legal, They really don't divulge this 'til after they've taken all your information, your payment, and then they still don't tell you until you ask. Had this not been a week that we just needed to get away, I would've told them to cancel . As far as the area, beautiful area, lots of wineries. It is a nice place to come visit. It's just too bad the park has not gotten a good maintenance upgrade schedule intact, because they have tripled ,their prices but nothing has been fixed or taken care of - too bad. Also, we only had 30 amp which is what I requested, but for a weekly price this was ridiculous. Can't tell you if I will come back, but if convenience is the factor then I probably will come back. The Fair Park RV - Alameda County Fairgrounds, Pleasanton, California

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

The price I paid was left over from a prior cancellation, when you cancel they do not give you your money back rather they keep it as a future deposit for camping. I am getting used to the prices that some of these campgrounds are getting now so what i used to consider highway robbery it's getting to be pretty much the norm .I have reviewed this campground several times over the years but either I'm looking through it with different eyes or excepting the fact that what I considered dirt I'm now looking at it as clean dirt, lol.The campground has raised its prices that you don't see any riff-raff in here anymore they can't afford it. Although didn't use them the restrooms appeared clean . Even on a busy car show weekend the campground was not full which that surprised me but I think it has a lot to do with the price they charge, there is no weekly or monthly rate it's strictly a daily rate per night. The hook ups work fairly good which are all in back of whatever you are camping in. We will probably use this park again due to the fact of its convenience to the fairgrounds. Tips for other Campers:

Interior roads can be tight when this campground is full so be prepared for tight maneuvering. Shopping is nearby restaurants are not far off either there is a café on the fair grounds which serves breakfast and lunch which seems to be pretty good . There is a nine hole golf course in the center of the race track which is on the fairgrounds which is kind of fun to play if you don't get too serious.

Silver City RV Resort, Minden, Nevada

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

I only use this park when Passport America is excepted which is late in the fall, otherwise I keep driving. This park has basically become a work camp for people in the area: a lot of long-term, six months or longer. The place is completely full: almost impossible to get in there, but we did get in. We camped close to the road: if you've got any other options do it because it's very noisy.

The interior roads are very tight if you are pulling a trailer, which I was with my motorhome. Virtually impossible to navigate out of the spot without asking somebody to move. I don't really use this park for it's amenities. I use it merely as a convenience for doing what I like to do in the area so in that regard it worked out fine.

395 has become so busy you really have to be careful pulling out especially if you're going to be heading south. I don't know what can be done other than maybe a dummy Lane to ease into the traffic: something will have to be done eventually, very dangerous.

The sewer connection is pretty far in the back. We use a hose for gray water and then when we left, backed up made a dump and then left the park. I would have needed 30 foot of sewer hose to make the connection, but I'm set up for long-term camping so a gray water hose is not a problem for a few days. We camped at Silver City RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Silver State RV Park (formerly Winnemucca / I-80 KOA), Winnemucca, Nevada

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

First of all I'm not a KOA fan, in fact I will avoid a KOA campgrounds just about at any cost. But when I saw the $19.99 a night and have stayed at this park prior to it being a KOA: I said what the heck I'm gonna try it out again.

The park is still in the desert so there's no way of getting around the dust. But there has been some changes: a lot are KOA changes. Their store now has a hotdog area which is very good. Also they are starting to serve ice cream which is another very good. The park has a nice dog wash which we used.

Overall the park looks tidy but you're never going to get away from the dust and dirt as long as you're in this type of environment. The inside store has a excellent RV miscellaneous parts very, very good, probably one of the best I've ever seen. The laundry room was clean, and appealing to use. We had an issue with one of the dryers, but that was it. They will refund your money if there is an issue.

I would stay here again late in the fall at this price. I don't know if I would pay the full blown KOA price, but sometimes convenience has a cost. I've said that before but we will definitely come back. Road noise for us was not an issue as we were probably about in the middle of the park. North Spokane RV Campground, Spokane, Washington

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Convenience has a price and I can vouch for that. I am appalled by the price that they get for people to stay in this park, but you know what I could rant and rave about the price till all my 2000 words are used up and this place still manages to stay full and here we are the 1st of October. Value aside this is a very nice park, it's new, everything is new and nice, but it's about $30 a night overpriced. Here's the deal if you stayed here for a month which I could do it would average out to about $20 a night electricity included but the daily which we are only here for three days is ridiculous it should not be 300% higher than the monthly daley it's way out of whack. Enough of the rant, the park has long pull throughs, all concrete, very level it has good cable TV (is very awkward to hook up). I could care less about the Wi-Fi because I don't use it anyway so I don't know about that, there is some traffic noise but it's minimal so if price has no boundaries then you will love this park. Welcome. We camped at North Spokane RV Campground in a Motorhome.
