Leeman Field, Pennington Gap, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Very level sites, nice tables, fire rings, water and other utilities worked well. Trash pick up was spotty. Lack of tree or shade hinders them. Very NICE park with pool, walking trails, ATV trails, basketball, baseball, and horse area. We camped at Leeman Field in a Motorhome.

Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground, Ewing, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Lack of basic maintenance is starting to show here. Yes, the B and C loop sites have electric but does it work? Be careful, Several sites only had 20 amp or 50 amp. Plus, some did not work at all. Yes, the bathhouses have hot water but how much? Yes, there is a dump station but does it work as well as it was intended to? Plus security was lacking some. I only saw a ranger maybe 1 time in 4 days. This place has went downhill fast. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Motorhome.

Ocean Lakes Family Campground, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $100.00
Overall Rating:

Our latest stay at Ocean Lakes Campground was superb! The entire campground was clean and well serviced. The bathhouses were very clean. They even have music piped into them. Each site was mostly level and about 50% of them had a concrete pad. About 99% of them were very clean. Each site had a nice picnic table, water, electric, and cable. If there was one complaint it might be that the sites can be a bit tight. The basketball courts were in fair shape. One new item this year was cornhole. The wash house and store were well stocked. The indoor pool was nice and the outdoor pool looked inviting. The water park was not open during this stay. Golf carts are the way to go. We camped at Ocean Lakes Family Campground in a Cabin.

Rock Creek Recreation Area, Erwin, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is a hidden jewel nested in the beautiful mountains of Tennessee. We noted several things while we were there. The sites all contained a nice burn pit and a food stand. Plus, every site had a well built picnic table and a lantern stand. In additional, every site had a wonderful base of pea gravel. Every site was laid out well and our 32 foot Class C got into our site (27) with ease. The bathhouses were clean and worked OK. My wife does not like the push button showers. They were well lighted at night too. Near the campground there was plenty to do. I counted at least 5 hiking trails. There was a playground and ample picnic tables for day use. Plus, this place has a pond or a pool. Yes, in fact it is fed by a mountain stream and when full is about 1-2 foot deep. Security rates sort of high. They close the main gate nightly at 10pm and open it again at 7am. The interior roads were all paved and in great shape. Every site had electric and it seemed to work well. We camped at Rock Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Douglas Tailwater Campground, Sevierville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The entire campground was mostly level. Each site had a nice picnic table, water, and electric service. Our site was mostly level and was just a stones toss to the bathhouse. The bathhouse was clean and very serviceable. The entire campground was clean and well kept. The staff here were very friendly and made our short stay very enjoyable. The playground area was nice and you could go fishing right outside your camper if you were on the water. There was a boat launch just a few yards away and plenty of bathrooms. We stayed in site #12. There were no trees in our site. However, there were some trees in other sites. There was no WiFi and no pool. Overall this campground rocks! We camped at Douglas Tailwater Campground in a Motorhome.

Ocean Lakes Family Campground, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Ocean Lakes in January can be a hoot. This winter trip was good. The campground was not crowded at all. The indoor pool was inviting. The put put course was cool and in some need of repair. Security was good and I noticed several items not available during the winter time. We stayed at 1802 Lovestone dr in a rental house. It was clean and serviceable. It included a golf cart. We used it to tour the campground. The house was OK and the heat worked well. The cable and internet worked well too. We will return! We camped at Ocean Lakes Family Campground in a Cabin.

Newport / I-40 / Smoky Mountains KOA, Newport, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA is showing some age. However, most items seem to be in good working order. The bathhouses were spotless and up to date. The pool was in decent repair and was clean. It had plenty of lawn chairs to sit in. The sites were mostly level. There were about 10-15 long term sites and most of these were well maintained. There was a fire ring, a picnic table (painted yellow), water, electricity, and cable at each site. The trees were in the correct place. Overall the staffs were OK. A few negatives include too many signs. The dog run needed water and a place to sit. The office looked like a souvenir store. The WIFI was spotty at best. Lastly, the grounds were well maintained and the grass was mowed. We camped at Newport / I-40 / Smoky Mountains KOA in a Motorhome.

Myrtle Beach State Park, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This state park has it all! I will start with the positives. The sites are all very level and shaded. The picnic tables all looked to be in good working order. The fire rings were in every site. The grass was mowed and most trees were trimmed back so as not to be in the way. The bath houses were in good working order and there was a good supply of hot water. The camp store was well stocked and they had an air compressor to use. The nature center was in great shape and there were plenty of activities for kids of all ages. The roads were all paved and were in good repair. The only negatives I could find were the lack of security in the right places. The prices for pier fishing were a tad high. The reservations system makes one plan ahead. They do not have a pool nor do they have basketball goals. I would give them a 10 if they had had those. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Tent.

This campground continues to impress. The site (C17) was a bit un-level. The bathhouse was clean and the showers were clean. The overall campground was spotless! My wife and 2 dogs loved the long walks this place offers. The electric worked well. We do wish they had water and sewer there. The dump station was spotless too. This last say was short but good. The bad is some items such as the showers are showing age. The door locks on the showers are showing age. The campground needs more electric spaces badly! The camp host were OK and seem to make efforts such as cleaning the bathrooms each night. The site we had (B7) was mostly level. The trees provide plenty of shade. We will return. Douglas Headwater Campgrounds, Sevierville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The check in here is so simple. Just pull in and check and see if there is a site you like and pull into it. The Host will come and check you in. The sites range from very unlevel to somewhat level. I'd say about 50% of them would not accommodate a class C RV. Each site contained a picnic table, a fire ring, and most had some sort of concrete pad. About 90% of the sites had water and electricity. The overall campground had plenty of trees: however, there were plenty of sites without trees. The bathhouses were very clean. The overall campground was incredibly clean too. Thankfully the grass and landscaping was extraordinarily well done too. The dam was a site to see. There were a few overlooks that were great! The location of this campground was super! It was only about 4-5 miles away from several grocery stores and about 5 miles from a major flea market. Lastly the other facilities at this place were top notch too such as the swimming area, boat launch, and the ability to have your boat very near your site. We were only about 50 foot from the waters edge. We are coming back to this campground. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Motorhome.
