Fox Ridge State Park, Charleston, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Quite the unexpectedly nice park. The space between sites was great, with growies in between and felt isolated, but yet connected. Shower house facilities were very good and clean. Close to the interstate and with fair cell signal. Nice dump station and great campground host. Would stay here again. We camped at Fox Ridge State Park in a Motorhome.

Wax Campground, Clarkson, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Just about the best park we've visited! Can't say enough good things about it. A couple OTA stations, good cell, both Verizon & ATT. Roomy & well spaced sites, even though they appear close together, because of the long pad approach & pad all framed with synthetic timbers & filled with white chat. Shower house was new, clean & accessible. Other campgrounds should aspire to these standards. We camped at Wax Campground in a Motorhome.

Lake Barkley State Resort Park, Cadiz, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

You'd think a Kentucky "Resort Park" would have a decent campground. Not the case here. Maybe it's just sour grapes on our part. We were scheduled to spent the night at a nearby COE park, but didn't care for it & thought a "Resort Park" would be nicer. NOT! The camp store/office was scheduled to be open, but wasn't to register. So went to the campground host, gone for the day! Self pay had envelopes and depository. $17 plus 10% senior discount, but all I had was a $20. Put that in & said they owed me the difference. Can't see not paying at all. Not a level site to be found. Shower house was very old and in need of a thorough cleaning, painting & general maintenance. What electric sites there were had to share power poles, as they were between sites. We barely reached the one by us. We chose the most level site we could find that our 25' cord could reach! Lodge was beautiful and the food was good, but the campground wasn't. We won't make that error again. We camped at Lake Barkley State Resort Park in a Motorhome.

Guadalupe River State Park, Spring Branch, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Another nice park, although it appears to be quite a bit older and not very well suited for larger rigs. Our 22' B+ had no problems. Most sites are level, but again most all tables & fire rings are to the rear or wrong side of the pad. And many are a good distance back. Great park for tent camping. Sites are well separated with "growies" between. About a half a dozen OTA channels decent Verizon & ATT signals. Interior road are good and easy to navigate. One of the two loops was closed for repairs/remodeling, so sites were a premium. We camped at Guadalupe River State Park in a Motorhome.

Blanco State Park, Blanco, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

A smallish State Park compared to most. Very clean, but strangely situated as the southern border of the town of Blanco. Highway noise can be heard periodically, but not bad at all. Two loops and all appear to be level. Their shower house is impeccable. You are given a 4 digit code for the shower section of the restroom and they are immaculate! These are the best laid out, practical, and spotless showers I have ever seen!!! This in it self raises my rating of this park. Only a couple of OTA stations, but Verizon & ATT were both very usable. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Blanco State Park in a Motorhome.

Inks Lake State Park, Burnet, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Very large park with several loops rather than one or two large ones, which give you a more quaint feeling. Roads are easy to navigate and sites for the most part are well spaced. Our 22' motorhome was easily leveled. Most sites appear to be relatively level, but not all by any stretch. But why does Texas want to put the tables & fire rings either quite a ways to the rear of the site or on the wrong side. The shower houses were few and spaced quite a ways from most sites that appealed to us. Some OTA stations and good verizon & ATT signals. A real nice place for a couple of days while touring the Hill Country. We camped at Inks Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Cedron Creek COE, Whitney, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

A typically great Corp park, on Whitney Lake. Sites for most part were level and moderately spaced. ATT & Verizon both gave workable signals. Not a ton of sites in this park, but still nicely done. Shower house was very nice. Well kept and clean. Good hot water pressure with handles, not the silly button type. A bunch of OTA channels. Our site provided nice views of the lake with the shower house in easy walking distance. The cover shelter with concrete tables are a nice touch. We camped here in a 22' motor home. Tyler State Park, Tyler, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

In the loop in which we were, most were pull through sites. Our site was one of the few back in and level. Both ATT & Verizon signals were good. A very large park and very busy during the summer/school breaks. Shower house was nice but quite used. Did not use the showers. Tyler SP has it's own good size lake with fishing and swimming and campgrounds scattered around the lake. Very nice park as we hit it during the week early April and it wasn't very crowded. Texas charges a Day use fee in addition to camping fee. Varies from park to park. Tyler was $5 per. We camped at Tyler State Park in a Motorhome.

Millwood State Park, Ashdown, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Real nice state park with quite a few site to choose from. Not a lot of shaded sites in the loop with the shower house, but all were level. Shower house appears to be newer and very nice. It consists of 4 separate rooms, each with toilet, basin and shower. Very roomy. ATT signal was workable. The campground is right next to the dam and thusly the road going over it so there is highway noise to some degree. We stayed at Millwood SP in a 22' motorhome. Jacksonport State Park, Newport, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice state park on the junction of the white & black rivers. Nice level sites which are pretty open. Would not make a destination park for us but a pretty nice for a night over. Not very far off the main highway, but the disadvantage if you have to trek through the town of Newport to get to the park, which could be awkward for larger rigs. Shower house is on stilts, which says something for the flooding in the area, an really nice, well kept and clean. Jacksonport SP has a very nice new museum with very well done displays and historical info of the area. We camped at Jacksonport State Park in a Motorhome.

Roan Mountain State Park, Roan Mountain, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park with 2 sections. One, the "Big Rig section is the lower. flat, leve,l a stream running along the edge and very nice. The other loop is up the side of a mountain. No big rigs allowed. Tight turns, small sites and just dark and dank. The lower loop had wifi, but it was "broke" while we were there. No cell service at all. Would return, but were told by some of the locals that reservations were hard to come by and had to be planned a year in advance. We didn't know, just drove up and got the last site for 2 night. Very nice park. Upper loop can get discounts, but not the lower one. We camped at Roan Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Hamby Park COE, Wilkesboro, North Carolina

Very nice park. No cell or wifi. Nice night over, but we would not make it a destination park. When we arrived just after a series of torrential rains all loops were closed but one. For a night over it was just fine. We camped at Fort Hamby Park COE in a Motorhome.

Goose Point Campground COE, Bassett, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

I only rated it as a 9 because we pulled in to our reserved site Sunday about 3 and the rude people next door had their vehicles in our site. When I asked them to move, they huffed and puffed as though we were disturbing them. The following day the locals had left and the park was a place of glory. Site were spacious while some were rather close together. Our goal was to camp in Fairy Stone Park, but after visiting it and this park there is no question why we are glad we chose what we did. Would definitely return, just in June on the weekend. Reservations are a must. Good WiFi from our AT&T hotspot and cell service both with AT&T & Verizon. We camped at Goose Point Campground COE in a Motorhome.

We did find some Fairy Stones at the Hwy 57 Pit stop a mile to the left and the State Park is 2 miles to the right. The 5 mile trek off 57 to the park seems like and eternity.

Natural Tunnel State Park, Duffield, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park with large COE-ish sites and plenty of space between sites. Water & electric but no sewer at the site. Ours had trees and brush between sites on the side but the back butted to another site which was vacant. Lovers Leap loop is where we stayed #17. Great cell and hot spot (ATT) reception. Very clean, new shower house. Lovers Leap is the newer loop and the reservable site specific one. The Tunnel is worth seeing. Would definitely return if in the area. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

Natural Bridge State Resort Park - Whittleton Campground, Slade, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Couldn't figure out their pricing. Got 10% for senior, but added $6.00 "walk in fee", total was $31.50. Nice, but small campground with very few sites and most were reserved. Nice clean campground with no wifi nor cell service. The Natural Tunnel was quite a walk, but worth it. Would not stay as a destination but nice for a night over.
