Wisconsin Riverside Resort, Spring Green, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Great website to book a site online, but you have to pay in full. The campground is located on the Wisconsin River. We were pretty much the only RV staying in the park as it is early in the season. There are some seasonal sites filled with RVs but they appeared to be closed up. Our site was gravel, level and pull through. Water pressure was a little low, 50A was good. The park has lots of amenities: pool, miniature golf, playground, canoes, pond with beach area, but nothing was really open due to the time of year. There is a nice restaurant on site that sits on the river and good size camp store. Roads were fine. We noticed lots of ground squirrels running around and quite a few holes. This campground probably gets busy in the summer season so we were glad we were here when it was quiet. Would return if in the area. We camped at Wisconsin Riverside Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Elkhart County Fairgrounds, Goshen, Indiana

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Large fairgrounds with several camping areas all with full hookups. To enter the grounds find gate 2 on CR 34 (road) as this is where the office is located. It is $35 full hookups or $25 if you only use water and electric (not including tax). They do have weekly and monthly rates. There are grass sites and gravel sites that looked fairly level. Almost all the sites are back-in and looked like it could get really crowded if full. This time of year though, most of the sites were empty. Make sure you check the fairground schedule as they may not be open to public camping during events. There are restrooms with showers, and several areas to walk around on the grounds. Some of the water and electric connections looked older. The grass sites could get very muddy during rain. We felt safe here, it was quiet except for occasional trains. Would stay here again. We camped at Elkhart County Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Gun Creek Campground - COE, Whittington, Illinois

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

You can reserve some sites on recreation.gov or try for a “walk in” site. The office opens at 3pm but a sign says look for a site and come back to pay. We opted for one of the full hookup sites which are more expensive versus an electric-only site $16. Most of the full hook up sites were full, but there were plenty of other sites. The campground is located on Rend Lake and is very scenic with some sites right on the lake. Sites are mostly back-in, asphalt and not many are level especially closer to the lake. There is a picnic table and fire pit and pole to hang a lantern. We saw nice trails, playground, showers, boat ramp and a golf course/resort nearby. The roads around the campsites are one-way and narrow, easy for your rig tires to go off the asphalt. A easily accessible dump station is available. Overall a nice park. We would return. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Willow Beach COE, Scott, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

We booked through recreation.gov. Stayed overnight only as we were traveling through. You check in at the gate, which was manned by friendly staff. A dump station is located near the entrance. There is a large day use area which has a boat launch/dock, picnic areas and playground. The campground is along the Arkansas River and a small lake, very scenic. Sites are asphalt back-in, with grill and fire pit, some had covered picnic tables. Our site was level, water and electric located towards the back and both were good. Some of the sites were sloped and had standing water from rain, but not too bad. The road was fine, lots of trees but no issue with branches. Our Verizon and ATT signals were good and we received over the air tv. The restrooms in the F area are still in renovation so not open. Overall a nice campground though I imagine it gets full in the summer as it is close to Little Rock. Would stay here again. We camped at Willow Beach COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Victoria City Park, Victoria, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

City park with 18 sites, all pull-through and gravel with full hook-ups. It is first come, first served and had one open spot the one night we stayed. It is self-pay by envelope with cash or checks, we did not see any park personnel. No amenities such as restrooms or showers, there is a dump station. The electric was fine, we did not hook up to water. We had Verizon cell signal. Very quiet even though it is located next to a road. We felt safe here and would stay again. We camped at Victoria City Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rainbow Plantation - Escapees Rainbow Park , Summerdale, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is probably the nicest Escapees Rainbow park as the park looks neat and tidy and the surrounding area is nice. All the roads are paved and are wide. The campsites are mostly back-in on grass or dirt with shade from trees. No picnic tables or fire pits as seems to be common with Escapees parks. There is a dry camping area for $7/night and leased lots as well as ERPU lots. It does get muddy when it rains. The clubhouse is nice, there were many activities such as social hour, crafts, card games, dinners, etc. There is a pool, library and laundry. Folks were friendly. We got over the air tv and ok WiFi. Would stay here again. We camped at Rainbow Plantation - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sumter Oaks RV Park - Escapees Rainbow Park, Bushnell, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This was our third time staying at this Escapees park. As always the staff are friendly and try to accommodate you. There are many ERPU (leased lots) that are occupied so definitely make reservations in the winter as the rest of the sites get full. The pull through and 50A sites cost more than the back-in and 30A sites which is new policy, I believe $5 more. Unfortunately Escapees hasn’t bothered to update the park much such as repairing concrete pads, adding picnic tables, improving the roads. There are activities such as dinners, crafting, card games, etc. The clubhouse is a nice space, laundry is reasonably priced. Be aware that there are lots of trees and many of the sites are wet and muddy if it rains. Take advantage of Smart Weigh ($50) a great Escapees service. We saw lots of wildlife near the swamp area, ibis, egrets, hawks, owl, otters, etc. Would stay here again. We camped at Sumter Oaks RV Park - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Santos Trailhead & Campground, Ocala, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Used Reserve America to book. With all the fees, a $22/night fee becomes $27/night. The photos of the campsites on the website are not recent, as we saw trees at several of the sites that are not in the pictures. We mentioned this to the park host. As mentioned before, some sites are short for big rigs 40+. But overall this is a nice campground, quiet, clean, near Ocala. The sites are gravel, fairly level, all back-in with picnic tables and fire rings. The dump station is next to the exit and is easily accessible. We would stay here again. We camped at Santos Trailhead & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Palm RV Park, Worthington Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Small campground of 12 sites that is part of the owners yard. The turn to enter the park comes up on you quick as the sign is small and would be difficult to see at night. All except one site is back-in. Sites are on grass, and are fairly level. No picnic table available, but there is a fire ring. There are full hook-ups that are positioned fairly well. The water pressure was low. There are quite a few ant hills. It rained while we were here but the ground stayed pretty firm. There appeared to be some long-term residents here but they were quiet, kept their areas neat but did not pick up after their dogs. We had lots of dog poop at our site. There are few amenities, no playground, no pool, no laundry, we didn’t see restrooms. A small fishing pond is available. The owner, whose house is on the property was friendly, low key; he only takes cash or checks. This is not a destination campground, but it is fine for a night or two. We camped at Palm RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, Robert, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for one night as we are traveling. It had been raining a lot so the place was very wet, lots of standing water and puddles. It might have been flooded as there was trash everywhere. Since it is off season, the place was slow, not too many campers. The office/store was closed but there was a woman on the second floor that checked us in. She was not particularly friendly. The place looks run down. Our site was a pull-through, fairly level, concrete with low hanging trees and puddles. The sewer connections did not have covers on them. There was trash on the ground. There were cars driving around the campground that seemed to be cruising. Perhaps the place is different in the summer season, as there is a pool and miniature golf. But we were not impressed and would probably not stay here again. We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Solid Rock RV Park (formerly North Shore RV Park), Eastland, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

After stopping at two questionable RV parks, we finally found this nice RV park. A bit off the main roads but located in a nice country setting by a lake. The owners took over this park 15 months ago so don’t have the usual camper discounts yet but do offer 10% off for seniors, military, law enforcement. They are very friendly folks. The sites are all pull-through, gravel and grass with nice hookups that worked well. No picnic table or fire pit. We did not use the free WiFi or laundry which is $1 per wash/dry on the honor system. Many of the RVs are permanent but kept their sites neat. There is a small pier on the lake, didn’t see a boat ramp. It was nice and quiet. A nice place to stay. We camped at Solid Rock RV Park (formerly North Shore RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Mesa Verde RV Park, Wolfforth, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here overnight. The park is in an industrial looking area . Office person was not particularly friendly but business-like. Our site was packed gravel, pull-through and level. Full hookups worked well, we didn’t use the WiFi. Many folks appear to live in the park and probably work in the area. But the park was very clean and tidy with several fenced dog areas, laundry room, bathrooms and a pool (closed for the season). Other than sirens, the place was quiet and appeared safe. Would stay here again. We camped at Mesa Verde RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Happy Trails RV Park LLC, Moriarty, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Small campground located right off I 40. Owners have taken over this park 6 months ago. Check in was easy, very friendly and welcoming owners. The campground is not much to look at, dusty dirt road, tight gravel sites. Hookups were good, WiFi, laundry room, and restrooms with showers available. There are no picnic tables or fire pits at your site but there are some tables in the middle of the campground. Good for an overnight stay. We camped at Happy Trails RV Park LLC in a Fifth Wheel.

SKP Pair-A-Dice -Escapees Park (members only), Pahrump, Nevada

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a 55+ Escapees Co-op park so only Escapees members are allowed to stay. There are no reservations here. You can stay on a leased site if available, but if none are available you can boondock for $7/day until a site opens up. If you are only boondocking you can fill up with water but the dump fee is $7. People are very friendly and welcoming, the office staff are helpful. Many of the sites have permanent RVs therefore decreasing the rental pool. We got a site after boondocking for several days, then had to move to another site as the lot owners said they were coming in. A bit inconvenient but probably not an issue in the summer. The sites are great, level gravel, spacious easy hookups. There are social hours daily, clubhouse with library and DVD rental, pool tables, bingo, craft room, root beer floats on Sundays, potlucks, etc. The place is very clean and the leaseholders care about the place. Definitely a Boomer and older crowd. We enjoyed our stay and would visit again. We camped at SKP Pair-A-Dice -Escapees Park (members only) in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This campground is associated with the meteor crater National landmark. Located right off of I 40. We stayed one night, check in was easy. They give you a $2 coupon to see the crater. The sites are level, gravel, mostly pull throughs. Very clean and secure with a gated entrance and security. The store is nice, with a laundry room and common room. Free coffee in the am and a gas station on the premises. We camped at Meteor Crater RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
