Scenic Mountain RV Park & Campground, Milledgeville, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We used this park as a layover on our way to South Carolina. All utilities worked well. ATT coverage was good. Be sure to read directions before arriving as the parking for check-in is limited. There is an incline after you enter the park, but nothing major. Laundry is clean and reasonably priced. The backin sites are spacious. The only issue we had was we had to back up far into the site so the sewer hose would reach (sewer outlet is middle of trailer); therefore, we were close to the other sites fire pit. There are hiking trails on the property. Park location is good for easy access to groceries, restaurants, and other activities. Would stay here again. We camped at Scenic Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Old Governors Mansion was the State Capital during the civil war. One of the better tours we have been on. The visitor center was very helpful they found us a place to have Thanksgiving dinner at Aubr Lane. If their Thanksgiving buffet is any indication of the service and food during normal hours it would be worth the drive. There is a nice boutique downtown. Wish I had bought the scarf; very reasonable prices. We were disappointed in the wings at the Brick, but the craft beers were good.

Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This was an overnight stop for us. Easy on and off of interstate following directions from campground staff. From the previous reviews I asked for a level site which we received. However, it was barely long enough to keep trailer hooked up to the truck. For TV their cable had limited channels we received more channels from antenna. Trash cans were well placed in the park to dump trash. Would stay here again when passing through the area. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park, Mccalla, Alabama

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

This park does not take reservations. It's first come first serve. We were given the option to drive around and pick our site. Sites are very close together. Our fee was $21.25 for water and electric. While driving through the park we noticed dump station was across the creek in Camping Loop 3. It was so disgusting we did decide not to dump when we left the next morning. The scenery is pretty and the fall colors were beautiful. We did not get to see the museum as it was already closed. The campsites could use some TLC. The park map we were given at check in was pretty useless. We camped at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Fish 'N Fry Campground, Deadwood, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We used this park to visit Deadwood, Spearfish, and Lead. The park is on the rustic side and some of the sites are tight. We had a back in site that backed up to the highway. Surprisingly the road noise was minimal as the site sits a little lower than the highway. As others have mentioned if it rains be prepared to walk through puddles. Was able to get satellite reception from our site. AT&T works. Good electric and fair water pressure. We did not use laundry as it smelled very musty. We camped at Fish 'N Fry Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We found ourselves going to Lead and Spearfish more than Deadwood. Lots to do in the area. For ATVing we found a place in Nemo that we liked (prefer a unit with a full windshield it cuts down on the dust). Fly fishing in Spearfish Canyon and in the Nemo area.

Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

As others have mentioned this is a large park. When I made my reservations I requested a site with satellite reception. It took some ingenuity, but I got satellite reception. I suggest watching the video online that shows the aerial before making your reservations. Some sites are tight because of trees and narrow turns. What I thought was going to be an easy site was challenging because of the steep incline. The campground could fix those sites so it's not such a steep incline. The location of this park in my opinion cannot be beat. You will hear traffic noise during the day. Especially during the stergis motorcycle rally. The laundry room we used was small and had no place to fold your clothes and to wash was $3.00. For a resort I would have expected a nicer laundry facility. My biggest disappointment was in the staff. When we arrived we were the only person checking in, but no one greeted us even though there were three employees and no other customers. There was no welcome and it was like pulling teeth to get information. I understand long days and maybe they were tired, but at these rates I expect hello and may I help you. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Hill City is a cute town. The Alpine Lodge has good food and service. Mt. Rushmore is worth a visit I was hesitant thinking tourist trap, but left awed by the thought and commitment. Custer is a short drive check out Sage Creek Grill. For ATVing checkout Black Hills Wilderness Edge in Keystone, the owners are very friendly and helpful. The Gaslight in Rockerville is a good lunch stop. Our stay was five days and wished we had more time so much to do in the area.

We used this park as an overnight stop to and from South Dakota. The sites are long and narrow. You are guided to your site. The owners are friendly and very helpful. Scott State Park, Scott City, Kansas

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We used this park as an overnight stay to and from South Dakota. As others have mentioned in the campground there could have more signage and some trees trimmed. The first visit we could not find the camp host. The second time we found a camp host as both times arrived after the office was closed. Both times did not have reservations, but I would not chance it on a weekend without reservations. If you area non-resident the Camping fees are higher. The park itself is pretty and would be a nice layover. The dump station is a ways from the camping loop. There is no cell coverage in the park where we camped. At some sites one could get satellite reception. Would stay here again when passing through the area. We camped at Scott State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Hemphill County Recreation Complex & RV Park, Canadian, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We used this park as an overnight stay twice to and from South Dakota. I think there are two parks here - one is the city park and the other the county rec park. Coming from town if you turn right before the rodeo area just after the highway dept building is where we stayed. We stayed in site 5 both times. All sites are back-in sites with asphalt pads. Good electric and water. Nice shade coverage from the trees. I was able to get satellite reception. The first time there seemed to be a lot of traffic to and from neighborhood down the road. Second stay heard a little train noise, but nothing bothersome. I would definitely stay here again possibly adding a day to check out the cute little town. The other campground is a little further down Hwy 60. Did not have time to check it out. During our stays we were the only one there. Dump station is conveniently located on your way out and trash dumpster is nearby. Pay by envelope by the dump station. We camped at Hemphill County Recreation Complex & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Cattleman's Exchange restaurant is worth a stop, good pulled pork tacos. I would avoid the Canadian Restaurant. If you need a tire see the Pit Stop Tire Shop. Excellent service and they saved us from having to spend an extra day waiting for a tire due to the Goodyear marathon bombs. There is a pioneer museum in town that may be worth a visit. It's on my list to do next time in the area.

Stagecoach Stop RV Resort, Rio Rancho, New Mexico

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We used this park as a stop over while traveling to Colorado. It's easy to find turn at the street by the WalMart and take the first left at T turn right this way you don't have to make a U-turn. Sites are narrow, but don't mind for an overnight stop. Electric was borderline, water pressure great, cable good. Some sites have a view of the mountains in the distance. Little Creek RV Village, Alto, New Mexico

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

As mentioned previously in other comments the nice sites are taken by long term or monthly. However on those sites the trees needed to be trimmed. I understand the owner was in the hospital during our stay and may have been ill when our reservations were taken. The website in my opinion is misleading, the cable was so bad that the over the air TV reception was better, WiFi was non-existent, water pressure was low, site very unlevel (could be because we were in the back near storage area) and electric was borderline. AT&T coverage was spotty in the area. Others in the sites on either side of us were disappointed in the park and also mentioned the wifi issues and water issue. I would not stay here again because when I made the reservation I explicitly stated we required a shaded site and was told I would definitely have a shaded site. Our site was backed up to a metal building with no shade. A month before arrival I called to verify our site and again specified it had to have shade and was told it did. If they had just told me the only site they had did not have a shade tree then I could have made a choice. The reason we picked this park was for the shaded sites. To me misleading is the worst offense. We camped at Little Creek RV Village in a Travel Trailer.

South Shore Park on Lake Bastrop, Bastrop, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has gone downhill in my opinion since their staff and the reservation policy changed. Electric and water pressure was good. Had to trim tree limbs before I could back into site so the limbs would not scratch roof of trailer. Needed to trim side too. Luckily my brother was in a nearby site and climb on roof of trailer and trimmed limbs for me. Broken glass and bottle caps in site. Picnic table had seen better days. It's sad to see this as the park has some good trails for hiking, biking, and bird watching. Noticed more church groups and scout troops using this park. The reservations have gone to an online service. There are many times when I wanted to camp there because relatives were there, but online shows no available sites, relatives see sites reserved but the people don't show. We were told the fee to cancel is too high so people don't cancel if they can't make it. I hope they change this. We camped at South Shore Park on Lake Bastrop in a Travel Trailer.

Advanced RV Resort, Houston, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

We use this park for my mom's visits to MD Anderson. The staff at this park are some of the nicest people. If you are looking to "camp" this may not be the park for you, but if you are visiting Houston I highly recommend for location it is 20 minutes to downtown Houston. Even during heavy traffic it has not taken over 30 minutes to get downtown. All utilities are good. They pick up your trash. Some of the back-in sites are narrow. There is road noise, but not bad in the back. There is a mobile RV wash service, excellent, just keep in mind the RV park will charge a minimal water fee. Well worth it. If you are visiting MD Anderson they will work with you on your schedule. The park is located near the 288 and Beltway 8 interchange which can be congested at times....rush hour. Priest Gulch Campground & RV Park, Dolores, Colorado

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I was able to get a pull-through site the week before Labor Day weekend with a month notice for a last minute trip. I was thrilled as other reviewers had stated that this park is booked up well in advance. This park could easily be a 10, the WiFi was the best I have ever seen at a park, AT&T cell reception was good, satellite reception is iffy because of tree cover and during the monsoon season. The setting is spectacular, I loved the blue spruce trees. This is the first park where when it was time to leave we did not want to leave. The Dolores River runs through the park so you can fly fish right in the park or there are two locations within a 10 minute drive from the park that offer great access to the Dolores. All utilities were good and firewood is free. Friendly staff and a lot of repeat campers. Sites are well spaced and interior roads were easy to navigate. However, going across the bridge to the other side of the river might be tight for some big rigs though there were many motorhomes and fifth wheels on the other side. My only suggestion for the park is that the staff could give a little more information about hiking trails and fishing access for the area. We have already booked a waterfront site for next year. We camped at Priest Gulch Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Buy groceries before you arrive. We wasted a day going to Cortez for groceries. There is a little market in Dolores that has some items - their peach pie is excellent. Easy drive to Telluride visit during the week - weekends are packed with people. Fly fishing access at Bear Creek just south of the park is good. North of the park before Rico on the left is a flat area (dry camping area). Fishing licenses are sold at the park.
