Lums Pond State Park, Bear, Delaware

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely campground with level spacious sites. Many sites have had gravel added which widens them providing a nice parking space. Heavily treed so satellite is hit or miss. Lums pond for fishing and multiple hiking trails is in the cg. Across the lake is the Go Ape obstacle course. It would be nice if the state would put a light on the entrance sign. Very hard to see at night. Other than that, it’s delightful. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Not far from shopping in Middletown which has local and national stores. The C&D canal is very close and provides biking/walking trails on both sides. Also interesting to see the huge freighters hauling goods from the Chesapeake to the Delaware River and on to the rest of the world

Davis Lakes Campground, Suffolk, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

We’ve stayed here many times because of its location. The park is well maintained. We had the best site we’ve ever had backed up to the lake with satellite reception and a wooden patio, table and fire ring. It’s pricey at 59 with tax for an overnite. A sign on the table says not to put a grill on it or....$200 fine. With over 100,000 miles of travel we’ve never seen a burnt table! No WiFi. It has been down for over a week for repairs. AT&T weak. A warning—if you’re coming east to west on 58, google maps routes you thru the town of Suffolk where there is a fixed bridge with a 13’6” clearance. May be an issue for big rigs. We camped at Davis Lakes Campground in a Motorhome.

Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA, Williamsport, Maryland

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

We’ve stayed here many times because they’re the only game in town but it would be nice to see some improvements. Only a few sites have sewer and but maybe the campground is prohibited from expanding it. If you are parked in the pullthroughs you have to go thru the entire CG to reach the dump station while exiting. The cable is still getting analog channels and only about half of what’s listed. No satellite at site 18 for rooftop Dish. The escort pulled us so far forward in the site that we had to unhook and backup to reach the connections at the very rear of the site. They do have pizza and other food available. The road to the CG is narrow. Could be hairy if two big rigs meet. Follow the website directions to get off on exit 24 and NOT 18. You’ll see the one lane bridge that you avoided just as you enter the campground. We camped at Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA in a Motorhome.

Barkcamp State Park, Belmont, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

A lovely state park not far off I70. Paved interior roads with easy maneuvering. We stayed in Campground A with full 50 amp hookup. Most sites are short so check the length on line before booking. The description also indentifies which sites are not level. Heavily treed so satellite not available. Could only receive 4 OTA channels with the antenna. Paved level site with concrete pad with picnic table and a concrete pad for the electric, water and sewer hookup. AT&T was weak but workable. Going south on Rt 149 there is a sign for the campground. The first building encountered is the administrative office where they told us how to get to the check in office in an old rustic cabin. Don’t know if there’s another entrance that goes directly to the checkin cabin. Many electric only sites in this large campground. The State plans on installing more FHU sites in the near future. We camped at Barkcamp State Park in a Motorhome.

Dayton KOA, Brookville, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We wanted to like this park because it was convenient to I70 and it’s in a pleasant setting. We requested a satellite available site in the online reservation and when we checked in. It wasn’t busy and there were plenty of open sites. They put us in a site with trees totally blocking the satellite. Cable only had a few local analog channels. We could have requested to move as the site two down from us was open without trees but we were hot and tired and just didn‘t feel like moving. Owners should know which sites are satellite friendly for roof satellites. We paid the 4.00 up charge for 50 amps. We’d rather it was just included in the site price than be an extra charge. No Wifi available. After spending time trying to connect to 5 different sites to no avail, we asked one of the fellows going by, who I think was an owner, who said it was down. The parts had come but they hadn’t a chance to repair it. Would have been nice to know this when we checked in. Wifi is essential when one is on the road for planning or working. Yes, there is road noise but you know that from the location. No surprise there. The CG has potential but perhaps the owners need a little more knowledge of what’s important to their customers. We’d stay again in hope that these problems would be solved. Didn’t notice anything bad about the water as noted in some previous reviews. The sites are close as are typical in KOAs that were built in the 70s. We camped at Dayton KOA in a Motorhome.

Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Resort, Joliet, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

A good stopover park at the Hollywood casino. Unlike most camps at casinos this is a real campground with level concrete sites with grass and a picnic table in between. Both pull thrus and back in sites. Can only make reservations on the phone. 50A Electric and water only with a dump station. Check in at the hotel with a small bottle of water. There wasn’t any discussion when checking in about the 10 casino fee so I guess it was just included in the $45 fee. We did receive a $5 voucher for dinner. Good DISH satellite reception. Close to the interstate. Easy maneuverability. No Wifi. AT&T service poor. Breakfast was included but we didn’t have it. Would stay again. We camped at Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Madison KOA, De Forest, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Located close to interstate but no real road noise. Sites are close together with grass in between with a picnic table. Some sites have fire pits which is a possible safety issue because of the closeness of the sites. Level sites with WES. Fast food restaurants and a Wisconsin cheese store very close. Biggest drawback for us is that it’s a good 20 miles into the city and it seemed like everything we wanted to do was on the south side of the city. All pull through sites but many are not very long. We just fit with our 34’ motor home and tow. Free, good cookie at check in with friendly and helpful staff. Wifi the best of any CG especially a KOA. We were close to a booster but they have many throughout the park. Satellite good. We camped at Madison KOA in a Motorhome.

Autumn Woods RV Park, Rochester, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Our area was barebones because it was the transient area with a level but narrow site with WES and satellite possible. No table. On the way out we saw much nicer sites; some with patios and more room. Several people are patients for Mayo Clinic and here for awhile. EZ in and out. Good overnite spot near interstate. We camped at Autumn Woods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Lindenwood Park, Fargo, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Very limited places to stay nearby in Fargo. This park has no online reses but can be made by telephone. No refunds if you don’t use the site. Very tight quarters in campground A. There were some 40-45 footers but takes a little maneuvering. Trees blocked satellite. Water and electric only. Dump station is convenient for campground A but a trek from the other campground on the river. Road noise from nearby interstate is loud. Very little room between sites. There is another group of sites on the river with 30 amps which looked more spacious and scenic. Overall the park itself is large and very attractive and close to everything. It’s a trade-off; a little cramped but convenient. Just as a side note, save yourself a trip to Red River Fairgrounds. They allow unlimited stays so it looked like many campers had been there a very long time. No sites available. We camped at Lindenwood Park in a Motorhome.

Buffalo River State Park, Glyndon, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

A small State park but with nice level sites, electric only but convenient dump station and water fill. Little or no AT&T and no Wifi. Quiet.. I94 is not real far away. Walking paths and a swimming hole. Easy maneuvering but have to look at each site to see if it’s long enough for your rig. Satellite service questionable because of trees. Ample room between sites. Would definitely stay again. Electric only but dump station and water fill are convenient. $30 plus 7 park fee for tow. Would have given it 5 stars but no water and sewer at the site. There aren’t a lot of choices near Fargo for such a nice and growing city. We camped at Buffalo River State Park in a Motorhome.

Graham's Island State Park, Devils Lake, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful campground in very large state park on Devils Lake. Easy maneuvering. Long, level, gravel sites with WES near the back of the site in LaRose section of CG. Boat ramp to Devils Lake with fish cleaning station. Nice store. Decent AT&T service and was able to get Wifi with a booster. Very open so satellite no problem. Ample grass sections between sites. Town is about 20 miles away for restaurants and food shopping. You’ll need 7.00/day for tow car or 35 for yearly permit. We camped at Graham's Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Lewis and Clark State Park, Hazen, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Nice CG on Lake Sakakawea but only tents are on the water. We were in the full hookup loop, Pintail Site 26. 50 amp electric and sewer were near the coach but the water was away quite a bit. We had about 100’ of hose out. Very long, level site. We were able to get satellite with a little maneuvering. Other sites looked better for satellite reception. Table and fire pit. Easy maneuvering for big rigs. AT&T no service but this is one of the few state campgrounds that has Wifi and it’s not too bad. 30 plus fee and day fee. We camped at Lewis and Clark State Park in a Motorhome.

Fireside Resort at Buffalo Valley , Moran, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $79.00
Overall Rating:

Although there are a number of CGs in Grand Teton and Yellowstone and the surrounding area, size can be an issue. This CG is just a few miles from the Moran entrance to Grand Teton National Park in Buffalo Valley and is pleasant because of its remoteness. Sites are close together gravel with WES. Gas and diesel fuel and food are available at the convenience store on site. Jackson is about 40 minutes away. Wifi is available but is stronger near the office. AT&T very weak. Tetons may be in sight in some sites. We were on the outside row so we overlooked a meadow and hills which was very pleasant. At 8PM there is a story telling cowboy and a bonfire at the CG. Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA , Arco, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

You probably wouldn't come here unless you planned on going to the Craters of the Moon. The CG and town in general is off the interstate quite a ways. If is a typical KOA journey CG with narrow, level, gravel sites and some grass in between. The staff was very nice at check-in and they do have a some activities incl an ice cream social and wine tasting. In the morning, they serve waffles and coffee. A nice touch. Water/electric/sewer worked well and it's very open so satellite is no problem. Wifi and AT&T very weak. If you're traveling and need to do some planning online, do it before you get here! Some of the items in the overall description are incorrect. There is 50 amps service. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.
