J.O.Y. RV Park (formerly Sonrise Village RV Resort), Cocoa, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

This is a decent park in need of some cosmetic renovation. Many permanent or seasonal units, but in the 2 days here we didn't see anyone. The only real issue was water runoff from substantial rainfall, leaving the grassy areas between sites with several inches of standing water. These grass areas contained the power podiums and water hookups, which meant wet feet when setting up and breaking down. The folks who operate the park were friendly and helpful, wifi worked well and antenna TV was fine. No cable however. We camped at J.O.Y. RV Park (formerly Sonrise Village RV Resort) in a Fifth Wheel.

Jekyll Island Campground, Jekyll Island, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park that may be difficult to get into during the busy season. A new section of campsites was recently added. This is a very quiet park on a beautiful, historic sea island. Park is moderately wooded, so satellite service may be problematic at some sites. Roadways are asphalt, and sites seem to be mostly sand. WiFi was decent and cable was adequate. We camped at Jekyll Island Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Access to the island can be a bit confusing. There's a toll booth selling daily, weekly, and longer term tickets for access. Single day tickets can only be purchased one at a time, but if you are staying on the island for a few days you won't need to buy additional tix. If you leave the island after the first 24 hours another ticket will be required for re-entry.

Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older KOA Holiday but more than adequate. The power podiums are in need of an upgrade, but worked fine, Cable couldn't get most broadcast stations, and antenna reception was iffy. Management said cable issues were related to the last hurricane and they were expecting a complete rebuild in the next few weeks. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Wilmington KOA, Wilmington, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We have friends in the area so we have visited this KOA several times. Friendly, helpful staff, clean grounds and spacious sites. There is now a snack bar adjacent to the park, which was added recently. Mostly sand roadways and sites, and sites a quite wide, long and level. We camped at Wilmington KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone, Verona, New York

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the nicest parks we have stayed in. The only reason I didn't rate it a 10 is the somewhat narrow interior roadways and questionable layout. Very tight turns and sites are so narrow then when grass is wet/muddy due to rain, entering the rig with dry shoes is virtually impossible. Other than that this place offers everything most RVers would want and more. We camped at The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone in a Fifth Wheel.

Houghton / Letchworth KOA, Houghton, New York

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA has the potential to be a great Kamping resort. Right now, and at the very beginning of the season, its a decent place to stay when exploring the Letchworth State Park and the surrounding area. The owners are working very hard to improve all aspects of the park, adding roads and improving sites. Unfortunately, the weather hasn't been cooperative, so there's quite a bit of mud and soggy grass at some sites. We would definitely like to stay here again when the weather has been dryer. We camped at Houghton / Letchworth KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Four Winds Campground, Portageville, New York

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We prepaid for 3 nights, but the place was so awful we forfeited our payment and left without staying. This park is apparently owned and/or operated by Adventure Bound, which operates several other parks. The mud and gravel driveway, which is at least 1/4 mile long, is a mine field of potholes. The lady in the office was very nice and assigned us to a site (I don't recall the number). The myriad of confusing interior roadways had no signs. The site was a muddy back-in site...this area has had a lot of rain, and they had thrown down some gravel at the entrance only. We got the trailer stuck in the mud backing into the site, and was only able to get out, thanks to my 4 wheel drive. We considered asking for a different site, but my wife was so upset by the overall look of the place, we decided to go somewhere else. We've been RVing for more than 10 years and I have posted more than 100 reviews on this web site. This is the only time our experience was so bad that we left a campground without staying even one night. Adventure Bound's website made this place look like a camping paradise. Its not. It's more like a low-end fishing camp. I'm really sorry to have to post a negative review and I realize it is very early in the season and this area has had lots of rain. But the next park we found also suffered similar weather conditions and managed to have acceptable sites. We camped at Four Winds Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Greenbrier River Campground, Alderson, West Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice little park in the mountains. When you first pull in it looks a bit like a trailer park, but the obvious long term tenants are somewhat separate from transients. Sites seem reasonably level. Water service is shared by 2 sites with a provided Y connector, but you may need an extra hose to connect. Wifi was decent, cable had sketchy reception. Entry to park is down a steep hill, but we didn't bottom out. We camped at Greenbrier River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Park is right on the Greenbrier River so water sports are easy to find. Park owners run a river raft service and canoes etc. are also available. If you are a railroad enthusiast you'll like this place because busy tracks are about 100 feet from the sites and trains run all night. Park is about 9 miles From the Greenbrier Resort, but I don't know if Greenbrier's activities like golf, fine dining, equestrian activities etc. are available to non hotel guests.

Pine Hill RV Park, Kutztown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground convenient to I-78. Decent space between sites. Cable TV is decent cable TV, wifi at the end away from the office is poor. I was there with a small rally and several of us had trouble maintaining 120v electrical service. No issues with water and sewer. Our site wasn't level, but manageable. We camped at Pine Hill RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very large KOA adjacent to the Harper's Ferry National Historical Park. The RV park offers a mix of open and wooded sites, fairly close together but with enough room for the tow vehicle. Facilities are what you would expect at a KOA Resort. Interior roads are narrow but manageable. Cable TV picture quality was poor and off air tv provided only a few stations at our site. We camped at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Pine Valley Campground, Endicott, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a somewhat hidden gem in central New York. Campsites surround a small yet scenic lake. Some sites are in the woods, some are open with some shade. Sites are roomy and most seem to be reasonably level. We stayed for two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Most open sites are grass, those in the woods are gravel/dirt. Management was friendly and helpful. Park is well-maintained but could use some modernization. Family owned for 33 years, and owners are thinking about selling. We camped at Pine Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
