Branches of Niagara Campground and Resort, Grand Island, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $113.00
Overall Rating:

This park has really nice grounds, ponds and pools. However some of the sites are really poorly maintained and they don't clean the sites between customers. I would not take a site in the 40s or 50s. We had probably the worst site in the park, very narrow unlevel pad with dead grass. Of course they could not move us. Recommend you push for a specific site when making reservations (200s are newer sites). The value is really poor but they are in the Niagara area and alternatives are limited. You pay a $1 toll each time to leave/arrive on the island. no cable but OTA worked fine and was able to get satellite but some sites will be blocked so let them know if you have satellite when making reservation. We camped at Branches of Niagara Campground and Resort in a Motorhome.

Camp Elmbois, Hammondsport, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Cute small family run park with nice owners. Big Rigs are put in the pull throughs. The road is a little narrow and could use some additional gravel but it is doable. All utilities worked well. Owner will dump your grey tank for you as there is no site sewer (there is a dump station at entrance of park). Park has nice set of ponds and complimentary peddle boats to check out the ponds and beavers. No OTA, cable but satellite worked. Follow the park's directions off the interstate. We camped at Camp Elmbois in a Motorhome.

Twin Streams Campground, Morris, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This park has nice grounds but some challenges for big rigs. First getting there can be difficult 414 has a 10 ton limit but that is the way the park wants you to go. hwy 6 to 287 is the only approved route from hwy 99/15. Next the roads are very narrow (really single lane) and some trees to avoid. The big rigs are put in the pull through sites which are a mix of gravel and grass. Most campers are seasonal with permanent RVs here. Lots of fires every night so the camp gets smoky. This is a great staging area for doing the Pine Creek rail trail. No OTA, cable and was able to get satellite. Voltage was low (114) but never got a low voltage error. We camped at Twin Streams Campground in a Motorhome.

Hersheypark Camping Resort, Hummelstown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $79.00
Overall Rating:

This park is a great location and is actually well maintained. The negatives are the tight sites, cars parked everywhere, and lots of people crammed into a small area. The utilities worked well. Very few sites can get Satellite because of the trees (site 230 worked for us). For Big rigs there are very few sites, so be sure to talk to the office so you get one of them. The pool is always packed except right when it opens. We camped at Hersheypark Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Berlin RV Park and Campground, Millersburg, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

fairly new park, yet most sites are not level. The first site we were in had 15" of slope. The second site had 8" and we found a sweet spot that got us to 4.5" of slope. They also put drainage ditches at an angle across the row roads which shakes any RV at any speed. The utilities worked well. For motorhomes the flatter sites are at the bottom of the park, nearest highway 62. The highway tends to quiet down at night. Satellite worked well but if you get near top of park you might have an issue. Great area for exploring Amish country and rail trails. We camped at Berlin RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Olive Branch Campground, Oregonia, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Stunning grounds greet you as you drive in. Unfortunately, they do not take care of the sites and site roads as well. For transients there are basically 2 rows, the rest of the park is permanents. Sites are not very level and they plus the roads need gravel. Our electrical box was on the wrong side and far away. Very few sites can get satellite as there are a lot of trees, suggest you get pull throughs in the mid 40s for a chance at reception. Strange hours for the pool which are when the office is open. We camped at Olive Branch Campground in a Motorhome.

Cummins Ferry Campground & Marina, Salvisa, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Access road is tough for big rigs. Cummins Ferry Road is narrow, winding and lots of trees need to be trimmed. The last 1/2 mile is a single lane road with tree branches encroaching both on the sides and top. RV Park (not a resort) is a nice setting in a Canyon right on the Kentucky river. Mostly permanent residents, transient spaces tend to be the pull throughs which are recently paved. Some of the pull through spaces have a steep incline which would be ok for trailers but difficult for motorhomes, so make sure you talk to the park. Because of the Canyon there is no Cell service, Satellite could be a struggle depending on the site. Wifi is between 1mb-2mb speeds and we had outages during our stay. The sewer system seems to be lacking venting so you need to watch out for pressure building up. Pool was locked the entire stay so not sure when it is open. Downtown Lexington is about 25 miles or 45 minutes away. Park has drainage issues and during storms our site and grass area flooded. We camped at Cummins Ferry Campground & Marina in a Motorhome.

Apple Valley Farm RV Resort, Lake Lure, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $77.00
Overall Rating:

This is an old Prevost park with all owner lots that has access to the Rumbling Bald resort (RBR) a mile down the hill/road (no bike or walking access). The resort has all the amenities (lake, pools, pickelball/tennis, wifi, etc). There is a great little cafe (Victory) near the entrance of the park as well as a self service produce stand. The park itself has no staff, it is self service, RBR handles all reservations and guest services but any issue with the park is referred to the owners association. Operating a park by committee does not make a great park and this shows. The wi-fi is pretty useless (.2mbs or less usually), there is no cable, no OTA, only analog voice on VZ with no ATT service (this becomes a safety issue for weather alerts), and trash cans went full. As this is a mature park, satellite reception is dependent on your site. The utilities worked well. RBR is great, crowded on weekends less so during the week with lots to do. Without the RBR access this park would not be a good choice. The roads into the park (64 Buffalo Creek and Bills Creek) are narrow and winding with trees needing to be trimmed, so plan on dodging branches. My antenna even skimmed an overhead wire on 64 West heading out. We camped at Apple Valley Farm RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Because of mountain roads it takes a while to get places Hendersonville, Asheville, and Costco are all an hour. Walmart is about 30 minutes. The Lake Lure beach area and Chimney Rock are very crowded on weekends and so is highway 64 through them.

Crossing Creeks RV Resort (formerly Mountain View RV Resort), Blairsville, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $72.00
Overall Rating:

RV Resort with good set of amenities in a pretty setting. Utilities worked well, water pressure is high so need a regulator. Wi-fi is only near the office, so you can plug into a 10mb Ethernet if you have a router (or they will rent one for $30). The have free twisted pair ethernet cables if you need one. Cable worked well and lots of channels. All the sites are owned by individuals and all are different in what improvements the owner has made. The one we were in had a cabin blocking the river view so ask as to what is one the site they want to assign you. Lots of construction going on in the back part of the park so dust and noise is normal. Some strange oddities such as trash is at far end of park so every morning and evening is a line of cars heading out to the RV storage yard to dump their trash as there is no pickup at your site. Pool and spa are only open during daylight hours. Most owners we talked to don't seem to stay for long periods. Lots of nature things to do in the area. Blue Ridge is a nice touristy town as well. We camped at Crossing Creeks RV Resort (formerly Mountain View RV Resort) in a Motorhome.

Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga, Rossville, Georgia

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park. Depending on your site you can have decent space or be tight. Roads do tend to be narrow, but are workable. Utilities worked well though water pressure is a little low. Right side of park tends to be permanents and left side for transients. Though rain has created potholes and saturated soil, they seem to be keeping up on mending potholes. We camped at Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga in a Motorhome.

Little River RV Park & Campground, Fort Payne, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Tough park for big rigs. This is a self service park, so you find a spot and leave your payment. Even if you have a reservation, it is still first come first serve. For bigger rigs there are limited spots that are either long/wide enough or level enough. Most of the larger/better spots are taken by permanents. Our site had 5" of slide slope. The roads are gravel but right now have a lot of water runoff damage and they are steep. I would not recommend taking a 30k+ pound rig through the park during or directly after rain as the roads are steep and in need of gravel/grading. Nice setting for a park though and utilities worked well. We camped at Little River RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park about 1000 feet above Huntsville. Make sure you come into the park via Governor's drive as the north route is too narrow and has tight turns. When it rains the park can be muddy and the pads tend to spray your rig during the rain. We also found that the voltage would drop below 105 volts when the park was crowded and people using heaters. Park person acknowledged that wiring was old and 4 sites share a wire. Roads are decent, but trees may not have been trimmed in areas. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Motorhome.

Stella Mare RV Resort, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large newer park (it is not a resort). Pool is seasonal and they have a large grass field and kids playground. Spaces are long but grass area is narrow unless you opt for a premium site (around street corners). Utilities worked well. Do not take a site along the back as Stewart drive is like a 2 lane I-10 and there is no fence. Also, if you have a nice rig find out what day gardeners show up and guard your site to keep them off. They used a weed whacker to edge under my slide and not only threw grass all over my rig, but once cleaned we found paint nicks all over where they shot dirt and rocks into my rig. Management washed their hands of the issue and referred me to gardener who never contacted me. Near Galveston beach areas. Across highway from beach access. Again, watch out for the gardeners. We camped at Stella Mare RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Canyon Farms RV Park, Kelowna, British Columbia

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

2nd stay here and a really nice park. Must make reservations far in advance as this is a small yet popular park. Owner does a really nice job of maintaining the park and all utilities work well. Wifi can be a bit slow in the evenings as the load increases. We had to work a bit for satellite in our spot (trees) but found a location. We camped at Canyon Farms RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pinantan Lake Resort, Pinantan Lake, British Columbia

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Really nice small park on the shore of Pinantan lake about 1500 feet above Kamloops and 15 miles away. Always approach from the west (hwy 5) as the east (hwy 1) is dirt and not well maintained. The park is on 3 leveled terraces, the first is the newest and for large rigs with 50 amp, the middle is the oldest and the bottom has the best lake view but is for RVs smaller than 32 feet. The park access road needs some work with ruts and potholes. If you have a large rig stop at the first Terrace as the road past this gets worse with limited space for turning around and you will be on the upper Terrace anyway. Utilities all worked well. They have lots of grass area, a nice beach, as well as rental watercraft (no motors on lake). We camped at Pinantan Lake Resort in a Motorhome.
