Yogi Bear's Sturbridge Jellystone Park, Sturbridge, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: September, 2011 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

Came in late at night. Looked forward to leaving as soon as getting a few hours sleep. We were gone soon after sunrise. The price paid was absurd for the site in a hollow. We have nothing good to say of this campground. Our brief observation showed it rundown with cramped, close sites. We will not be visiting this campground again. We camped at Yogi Bear's Sturbridge Jellystone Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Smuggler's Den Campground, Southwest Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2011 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Having made reservations several months earlier, we were surprised to find asked for (and told yes) pull through, 50 amp, CATV unavailable. We settled for a 30 amp, pull through, no CATV. The site was not very level and had a tree with branches literally laying on the rooftop. This was our first visit to the Maine area. Having seen it, "experienced" it, we won't be back. Mindful now I'm speaking of the campground. The sights and sounds of the Maine seacoast and its people were very nice. We camped at Smuggler's Den Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Candy Hill Campground, Winchester, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2011 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Although we've stayed here a number of times for several years, this will be our last visit. I've always thought the staff to be a bit pompous and at times "trying." We've dismissed it as the location was convenient to visiting relatives. On this occasion I had made reservations two months earlier for a pull through site. On arrival it was pointed out I would have to accept a backin site, as the pull throughs available were "wet." Accepting, we noticed pull throughs being utilized later that evening. The next day a business associate came for a one hour visit and had to pay a campground fee of $1.50 for that one hour visit. We apologized profusely to her, and quickly determined this to be our last visit to this campground. We will gladly travel the additional distance to Luray where they are much more accommodating. We camped at Candy Hill Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Carr Point Recreation Area (Military FamCamp), Middletown, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: August, 2011 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

When making this reservation, we asked for a pull through and were told "OK". Arriving the sites were all back ins. Even so, we enjoyed the several days we were there. It was quiet, the views of the water/river very nice. Although sewage was only avail at a remote site we did not feel this difficult with our holding tanks. Travel to a convenience store is about a mile distant. TV service via analog antenna was good. Much of our time was spent touring the Newport area and this site was very accommodating for us. Should we be again in the area, we would definitely ask for a site here. We would have given it a higher rating, no sewage at the site. We camped at Carr Point Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Aces High RV Park, East Lyme, Connecticut

Date of Stay: August, 2011 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

A class act! The facility is/was very nice. Sites were level and spacious - lots of room between sites. We really look forward to an uncrowded environment. Aces high does that and more. Amenities were good, albeit the hurricane knocked out power. Even so, the grounds were safe and the owner-managed park gets lots of "kudos". Should we again be in the area, we would most certainly return to this campground. We camped at Aces High RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hacienda RV Resort, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

In previous years/previous visits we would always come away thinking a "9" or even a "10". However, this time they squeak by with a "5". Much of the time we were wiping the gravel dust off prior to entering our RV. Additionally, we were placed right next to a motorhome and I do mean right next to...I'm not exaggerating when I say we could reach out the window and touch next door. Be-that-as-it-may...we like Las Cruces, and Hacienda...we just won't be so quick to stay here when traveling thru. We camped at Hacienda RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA), Staunton, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice facility. The overnight site was in a relatively new area/section. It was obvious there was/is attention being paid to site surroundings. Water/electric/sewage facilities were very accommodating. The site itself was level and clean with more than adequate gravel. Restrooms were impeccable. Note these comments apply to the newer section above and to the rear of the campground. Would definitely return if able to obtain one of these newer sites. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

Memphis East Campground, Lakeland, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

A very terrible place. Good Sam should remove its endorsement. The site was unlevel and muddy, requiring muddy everything to make level. The electric pedestal was not of sufficient height to allow using my surge protector. I then watched an adjacent camper "throw" his electric breaker switch with corresponding tripping of my power. This several times. Dog waste around the bit of grass at the site. As mentioned, could not wait to get away the following morning. We camped at Memphis East Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Apache Flats RV Resort (Military FamCamp), Sierra Vista, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

I have nothing but good things to say about this facility. CATV, 50 amps, sewage, with a spacious level concrete pad. This, with a personable and conscientious on site manager. Observed maintenance activities timely and well orchestrated by her. We utilized the swimming pool, commissary, horse stables available on base, and for the period of a month enjoyed the facility immensely. Would definitely return. We camped at Apache Flats RV Resort (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Picacho Peak RV Resort (55+ park), Picacho, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2011 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

What a pleasant facility. An overnight stay enroute between cities, we thoroughly enjoyed the site. Services provided were excellent. Adjacent amenities (pool, exercise room, meeting room, etc) were excellent. A number of 55+ are calling this facility their home, and it's easy to see why. We will definitely return when passing through, and may consider the purchase of a park model. We camped at Picacho Peak RV Resort (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.
