Coachlight RV Park, Carthage, Missouri

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The park was an easy exit from I-49 and our GPS worked great. The office staff was friendly and we were placed in a long pull thru. The hookups were convenient and we had a good line of sight for our roof mounted dish. ATT cellular signal was good at 3-4 bars and 4G LTE also came in at 3-4 bars. The park had free WiFi which was pretty good. We camped at Coachlight RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hillsdale State Park, Paola, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We really enjoyed our stay at Hillsdale State Park near Paola Kansas. We are in the newest campground, Sunflower, and to us it is a really nice campground. The roads are asphalt and the sites are concrete with a concrete patio. We are in a long curved pull-thru with convenient hookups. Since it is a new campground there were no trees so we had no worries about our roof mounted satellite dish. There is a lot of room between sites. ATT cellular was pretty good at 2-3 bars. ATT 4g was kinda hit and miss. Sometimes it would be great and sometimes almost nonexistent. There is no park Wifi so we were dependent on ATT. If in the area we would stay here again. We didn't have a water view from our site but a few backins did have a view of Hillsdale Lake. We may be back in the area if only to eat at a great foodie find, Beethoven's #9, a German-Italian restaurant in nearby Paola Kansas. We camped at Hillsdale State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Woods Lake Campground, Cedar Falls, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We were a little worried heading to Cedar Falls due to a lot of rain and some flooding. The nearby Cedar River was out of its banks but did not impact us. Our GPS devices eventually agreed upon the route and brought us right to the park. The roads were wide and asphalt and the sites were gravel. The full hookups were convenient and we had a great line of sight for our roof mounted satellite dish. We would stay at this park again. We camped at Big Woods Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Fountain Lake RV Park, Inc., Almond, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Fountain Lake RV Park is a membership lease ownership park near Almond Wisconsin. We had the advantage of following our friends who owned the lot to their park so they knew the best way, including a great truck stop for a break.

Although we were able to navigate the narrow roads, I really wouldn't call it big rig friendly. Following them helped here too as they knew to tell us to swing wide and what to avoid during and after the turns. The roads were gravel as was our site with a concrete patio. The hookups were convenient and we had a great line of sight for our roof mounted satellite dish. We camped at Fountain Lake RV Park, Inc. in a Fifth Wheel.

Manistique Lakeshore Campground, Manistique, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

A rare "10" of "10" for this park. After almost 9 years of full timing this is one of the few 10s we have ever given out, however, if all of the others were a "10", this campground is an "11". It is a relatively new park, just open last year, and since built from scratch it is laid out just like we would design a park. Very big rig friendly, asphalt streets, concrete pads, gravel patios and wide spaces between sites. This is our new favorite park. GPS brought us right to the park but said the park was on the left, which was a waste treatment facility. There was a sign telling us to turn right to the park. As mentioned above a nice new park with convenient hookups. There are a lot of trees but we were lucky to convey our desire for a satellite friendly site and we were lucky to get one. Why it didn't get an "11", and mind you these are minor nits. The park is expensive, expensive, expensive - but location, location, location. The park is laid out with 4 pull-thrus, the rest are backins. All the lakefront backins are right shoulder or blind side which are a little more difficult than a left shoulder where Bob can watch how bad he backs up. Plus it would be nice if you could get mail here. Even though it didn't get that "11" we are already talking about when we can get back up here and how long we can stay. We camped at Manistique Lakeshore Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Peshtigo Badger Park Campground, Peshtigo, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Badger Park is a city park in Peshtigo Wisconsin that has a small mostly wooded campground. Our GPS devices performed admirably and brought us right to the park. The site we ended up is why we have reservations during the summer in this part of the country. Not only do the parks fill up during the weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day but there are a lot of trees so there is a very limited number of satellite friendly sites. Site #1 has a great line of sight but there was an added bonus; the camp host said that since we were on the end that we could drive on the grass and turn the backin site into a pull-thru, what a bonus. Trees on either side and a good line of sight for our satellite dish made this a very good site. ATT cellular was fairly strong but ATT 4g was a little weak and flakey. The hookups were convenient (50amp electrical and water). There was no sewer hookup. The best part of the park though was the rate, accepting Passport America for Sunday-Thursday, making our weeks stay $121.50. We didn't know that we would have a water view from our back window. Also from our back window during the summer every Wednesday night there is a program called 'Bands at Badger' and this week was a 70s cover band. We heard some Lynyrd Skynyrd, Heart, Cindy Lauper, etc. With the Passport America rate, great weather, sightseeing and food, we would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Peshtigo Badger Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Osh Vegas Palms Resort, Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

The campground at Osh Vegas Palms Resort is kind of hard to review. It's not really a resort by any means but we had a pretty good week here anyway. Not having a clubhouse and activities and laundry room really doesn't bother us. The issue we had was the lack of a sewer hookup although they had an awkwardly placed dump station. The pullthru had 50amp electrical and water pressure that was so high we were glad we had a good pressure regulator. The pullthru was long enough that if we wanted to stay hooked up we could. We had a good line of sight for our roof mounted satellite dish. For this part of the country the rate isn't that bad, $185 for the week, so it is a park we might consider staying at next time in the area, especially if we remember there is not a sewer hookup and better plan for it. We camped at Osh Vegas Palms Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Neshonoc Lakeside Camping Resort, West Salem, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

GPS brought us right to the park. The young gal in the office was friendly but apparently has never driven thru or stayed in the park. We wanted a long pull thru that we could stay hooked up and still get a satellite signal but to get a signal we had to pull to the very front of the site and unhook due to a very large tree. The roads are asphalt and the sites are grass. With the rain that the area has seen the sites are a little soggy. The ATT cellular and 4g signals were strong. We camped at Neshonoc Lakeside Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Pihl's Park, Wells, Minnesota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed hooked since we were only staying one night. Both GPS devices did not have Pihl's Park as an RV park but was able to get it entered as a county park. The last mile or so was a gravel road. Not really an office and the camp host was not in the campground when we arrived. The guys mowing helped us pick a site since it had rained a lot in the area. The roads were narrow with gravel and sites were rocks but also narrow. It was a 30amp electrical pull thru. Lots of trees so no satellite reception. ATT cellular and 4g signals were strong. This is a beautiful park in the woods with only a couple of sites that 'might' get satellite reception. The park is mostly permanent residents. We could have gotten water if we wanted to so $20/night for 30amp and water isn't bad. We camped at Pihl's Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sioux Falls KOA, Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

GPS brought us right to the park. The office staff was friendly. The roads were gravel as were the sites. There was nice spacing between the sites. The hookups were convenient. We were in a long pull thru with 50amp full hookups. ATT signals, cellular and 4g, were strong. We had a great line of sight for our roof mounted satellite dish. The park is located right next to I-90 so it is a little noisy. Plus there is an airport nearby so all you need is train tracks and you get the trifecta of noise. Truth be told the noise wasn't that bad so we would probably stay here again. As usual we left some things to do next time and there are some good places to eat that we wouldn't mind eating at again. We camped at Sioux Falls KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Super 8 Motel / R & R Campground & RV Park, Mitchell, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

GPS brought us right to the Super 8 Motel/R & R RV Park. Checkin was at the motel. We were in the upper level which was a nice concrete pad on a long pull thru. The roads were paved and the upper level is a big rig friendly park with the sites not crammed together. We put our RV in the pull thru so that our sewer hose would reach and also putting the front under a shade tree while allowing a good line of sight for our roof mounted satellite dish around that tree. Once settled the hookups were convenient. The park had free wifi but we did not use it. We probably should have since the ATT 4g was 1 bar, sometimes 2 but spotty. ATT cellular was better at 3-4 bars. We camped at Super 8 Motel / R & R Campground & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Three Flags RV Park, Black Hawk, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Three Flags RV Park is a Passport America park that will honor that rate for the entire week. Our GPS devices agreed on the route and brought us right to the park. This is a one woman show and the owner was mowing when we got there but saw us and came to check us in. The roads and sites are gravel. The sites are well spaced with grass between them. We got a lot of rain while we were here and the sites drained pretty well. The hookups were convenient for our long pull thru. We had a good line of sight for our roof mounted satellite dish. We had 3 bars ATT cellular and 2 bars ATT 4g. There is so much to see and do in the Black Hills area that we no doubt will be back in the area again. We would stay here again especially since it is one of the nicer Passport America parks we have stayed at. We camped at Three Flags RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

All Seasons RV Park, Rozet, Wyoming

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Since we were staying only 1 night we stayed hooked up. Our GPS devices disagreed on the last leg whether to get on the interstate or not. This was another park though that had great signage from the interstate so we drove right to the park. The sign at the park said to self park and then call the office so we did and the manager came to the site to collect our money. This is a big rig friendly site with wide road and long pull thrus so we could stay hooked up. The hookups looked convenient but we only used electrical. We were very surprised to have great ATT coverage, 5 bars cellular and 4 bars for 4g. We had a great line of sight for our roof mounted satellite dish. We honestly have mixed emotions about this park. It is a little expensive for an overnight stay but it is in a nice area for things to see. The owner told me they have better water than nearby Gillette. That said depending on the distances between stops on our next trip we might stay here again. We camped at All Seasons RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Douglas KOA, Douglas, Wyoming

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Both of our GPS devices agreed on the route and would have taken us directly to the park had Bob not had a brain cramp during some road construction and took an exit instead of staying on the interstate. Luckily it was just a couple miles the other way on the interstate and then back through the rest area we just left. Even without a GPS we would have made it to the park as they had the best signage from the internet that we have ever seen. The office at the KOA was closed when we got here but they had our park handout in the night registration area and we found our way to our site. The pull thru was long enough that we could stay hooked up which was great since a one night layover. After we had settled in Bob walked to the office and paid. The hookups looked convenient although all we used was electrical. We had a great line of sight for our roof mounted satellite dish. ATT cellular was 4 bars and 4g was 2 bars. We camped at Douglas KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Get a pizza at Friendz. Turns out Friendz Pizzeria, which was advertised in the KOA handout and offering delivery, has the best pizza in the state of Wyoming per Yelp. So you know we had to order some pizza. We got the BBQ and Brisket and the Hang Loose (Maui Pizza). Both were excellent and we both admitted we liked the one we were currently eating the best. Definitely gets added to our 'Our Favorite Things'.
