Traders Village RV Park, Houston, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is kind of an odd place. It's basically at one end of the huge parking lot for a flea market. Despite being in the city, it's not terribly noisy. There's nothing outstandingly good or bad about it (other than being VERY close to your neighbors). Further in, the area inhabited by permanents is slightly on the trashy side, but the shorter-term spaces up front have a better feel. I seem to recall that the wifi worked reasonably well. Verizon signal is perfectly fine. There are no maneuverability issues other than the possibility of having to ask someone to move an inappropriately parked truck to get into or out of your spot with your full rig. The grounds crew went all-out during our second stay (extremely noisy) and I had to wipe weed whacker grass shrapnel off my trailer twice (that stuff turns into cement if you don't wipe it right off), and I discovered at a later stop that they ate through my insulated hose. Thankfully they didn't damage the power cord. We've stayed here twice because it's conveniently just down the road from family. We camped at Traders Village RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Southern Oaks Mobile Home & RV Community, Gulfport, Mississippi

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a month at $450 (cash-only). This includes your first $100 of electricity and the woman I spoke to when making our reservation said they've never had anyone go over that (and we did not go over, either, despite relying on electric space heaters and an electric water heater). As others said, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful - couldn't be better. Overall the place is primarily a permanent mobile home park with wide residential streets and there are some *extremely* dilapidated & junky homes, but it was a quiet and uneventful stay for us and always felt perfectly safe. I-10 can be noisy some nights based on the wind direction. There is a block of spacious sites near the front for RVs, which is where we stayed. It's a short walk to the office & laundry (3 washers, 3 dryers @ $1.75 each). Unfortunately the one reason we can't stay here again is the park is in a Verizon congestion hole. Our Verizon data service would be blazing in the middle of the night, but in the morning would start to slow down and become a sporadically responsive, infuriating 0.2 Mbps crawl throughout the day and then gradually speed back up in the late evening hours. It was not a signal strength issue - just a network congestion issue. The park wifi was just as bad and even less reliable. We need internet for work and most days my wife had to set up camp in a nearby Barnes & Noble to get anything done. We camped at Southern Oaks Mobile Home & RV Community in a Travel Trailer.

Yuba State Park - Painted Rocks Campground, Levan, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for a week in early/mid September. Other than the technically off-duty host and the occasional overnighter, we've had the place to ourselves. I'll echo the previous review that we've felt completely safe here. It's a very quiet and peaceful location. It gets fairly windy every day, starting from the east and swinging around west. The lake is nothing but some meandering streams and there are cows grazing in the lakebed, but it offers a unique beauty. It's super dark at night and the Milky Way is already visible in twilight. Groceries are available about 15 minutes to the south and 20 minutes to the north. Sites have 30/50 and water but only the host site has sewer. Dump station is functional and convenient. Sites 7, 8 and 9 are doubles that cost twice as much, which is not readily apparent until you open the envelope box to pay. I would say 12 (pull-thru) has one of the best views. We camped at Yuba State Park - Painted Rocks Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Boulder Oaks RV Resort, Boulder City, Nevada

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

As others said, each site here is privately owned but can be rented through the management company. Site owners take great pride in customizing their sites. It is a very nicely landscaped and well-maintained park. It was dead quiet here. People were friendly but everyone kept to themselves and you rarely saw anyone. Laundry was cheap at $1.50 wash/$1.25 dry. Things that lowered my rating: the management company, while very nice people, is a bit of a pain to work with and is off-site. The dog areas can be very far away from your site and the blacktop roads easily become too hot to walk your dog on during the summer days, making it rather difficult when your dog needs to pee mid-day. I don't know what was up with the wifi, but it was S-L-O-W, like a fraction of dial-up slow. Entirely unusable. But overall we enjoyed our stay (we value peace and quiet) and greatly preferred this over our original plans of staying in Vegas proper between the interstate and airport. We camped at Boulder Oaks RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Rocky Point COE, Queen City, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty park. If you don't have a reservation, you have to pick your site sight-unseen at the gate. We arrived around 3:30 on a June Thursday and got the one remaining lakefront 50 amp. There is also water at the site. There are a few sites with full hookups. Big rig navigation is ok but requires attention in some areas. Verizon data signal is perfectly useable and there are plenty of OTA TV channels. The lakefront sites in B loop have a front-to-rear downward slope. I could have lowered the front of our travel trailer only one more inch until hitting the ground (35' hitch to bumper). There is plenty of space between sites. We camped at Rocky Point COE in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here while attending a conference at the convention center. It's about a 20 minute walk. It's a beautiful park and the road noise wasn't much of an issue. No complaints. We camped at Golden Shore RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Palm Springs / Joshua Tree KOA, Desert Hot Springs, California

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty nice park with spacious sites. We enjoyed the hot tubs which are three different temperatures fed by hot springs. We were close enough to Cathedral City to enjoy some of its amenities. Our two complaints are the desk clerk was rather put off when I called from our site politely requesting to move. We had just gotten there, and, despite the park being quite empty, we were placed right next to someone with an extensive outdoor TV setup right next to our bedroom slideout and backed up to someone else with outdoor fencing for their little yappy barking dogs. Having recently come from another park with a couple that loved to sit and talk and make phone calls just feet from our bedroom, we weren't about to subject ourselves to that again. We did get moved but not without a lot of grumbling from the clerk. Our other complaint is the sites are deep, soft sand, making leveling difficult. We had to dig out pits on the high side to get level because our blocks on the other side would just sink in. All that aside, we enjoyed our stay and would stay again. We camped at Palm Springs / Joshua Tree KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Justin's Diamond J RV Park, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This is kind of an odd park. It had a nice feel, but some areas seemed they'd be a little tough to navigate. We just stayed one night in one of the spartan pull-thrus up front. Had to make a LONG run of sewer hose and the drain is well above ground which made dumping difficult. I wouldn't have wanted to mess with that very often. Management keeps random office hours (we got there as she was closing up in the late afternoon) and the place is cash-only. It's 55+ but we are in our mid 40's and weren't given any hassle. We used the laundry facilities and they were fine. There was a decent amount of road noise up front. We camped at Justin's Diamond J RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rock Hound State Park, Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We've stayed here four times now. It can be difficult to find an open site without a reservation. Backing in to some of the sites can be tricky with a big rig due to the large rocks along the roadside, but it's doable. It's always been quiet here, even when full, and you can't beat the views. Like most NM state parks, 30 amps is the maximum available power. We camped at Rock Hound State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Frog City RV Park, Duson, Louisiana

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Price reflects Escapees 50% discount. This is a well-kept park with easy access off I-10. I was concerned about the proximity to the nearby truck stop, but this was not a problem. There is mild interstate noise but nothing obnoxious. One end of the park is adjacent to the backside of a Super 8, but there are trees in the other two directions. We were impressed that they spaced the overnighters like ourselves out in every other site (leaving an empty between). We've been to so many places where they cram you together for no reason, but not here. The place is clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed the staff's friendliness and you get cookies and dog treats at check-in. We really enjoyed the saltwater pool. It was very clean and quite refreshing on a hot summer day. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Frog City RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

North Sterling State Park, Sterling, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

We overnighted here while traveling from Raton, NM to Rapid City, SD. On a Monday night on April 30 we almost had the entire place to ourselves (only one other camper present). So obviously it was very quiet during our stay. It's a beautiful location. There is no water hookup at the individual sites, but there are spigots scattered about for filling. We would love to stay here again sometime. Not having water at the site is the only reason I didn't give it a 10. We camped at North Sterling State Park in a Travel Trailer.

White Tank Regional Park, Waddell, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We really enjoyed our stay here. It's quiet and has beautiful views both day and night. We loved to ride our mountain bikes on the trails through the saguaro, including the competition tracks. The sites are spread out. It is a bit of a long, slow drive from the campground to the edge of town, but that's what makes it quiet, right? We had an extremely sketchy Verizon data signal, even with our cradle booster. We camped at White Tank Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Malibu Beach RV Park, Malibu, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Price reflects weekly rate of a mountain view 30-amp electric/water site during their winter season (March). Pack 'em in like sardines! We *barely* fit into our assigned site and had to be very careful when pulling out not to clip our neighbor. I would stay here again only because it's by far the closest option to some relatives. It is a very tight park and we were only sometimes able to park our truck anywhere near our site. It was reasonably quiet during the week but turned into an absolute madhouse over the weekend. People parking everywhere and difficult just to drive an unladen truck around. Large extended families and screaming children took over the entire place. We're polite people but the manager was an extremely rude lady with some serious issues. My wife discovered a used, bloody feminine hygiene product on the floor of the shower. Luckily she noticed it in time as blood was running towards her feet. The only saving grace of this place is the views and it's the cheapest option in the wide area (depending on time of year and type of site). We camped at Malibu Beach RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Holiday Palms RV Park, Quartzsite, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This park obviously exists primarily for permanent and long-term residents, but there are about a dozen pull-thrus up front for those of us just passing through. The employees were friendly and they have a nice, giant hot tub. There are other interesting amenities like a DIY oil-change station and trailer wash spray wand. We enjoyed the smell of fruit tree blossoms while walking through the park. Our only real complaint is the road noise as the park is sandwiched between the interstate and highway. There's also a lot of rocky crud in the water from the well. Make sure you filter the water. We camped at Holiday Palms RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground), Ajo, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

I'm glad we went out of our way to stay here. The sites are of varying lengths. It's a very beautiful and unique location. Running off solar in the non-generator area, we had the misfortune of hitting the 3 unusually hot days in mid March, but we survived. ;) It doesn't help that you can't safely keep an awning out with the unpredictable winds. We loved how the natural vegetation surrounded most of the sites. I would absolutely stay here again (during the cool season). We had a good Verizon signal but could understandably pick up only one OTA channel, and it was of course Spanish-speaking. Be VERY careful when walking your dog on the loop around the campground - turn away for a second and they'll have something stuck in them! We camped at Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.
