Outpost Campground & RV Park, Salt Lick, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This was a quick, single night stopover for us. The staff was friendly and quick with our check-in. The pull-through site we used was extremely long and had recently been black-topped. Interior roads are on the narrow side so swinging into and out of sites requires tracking through some grass. The only problem was that they'd just black-topped part of the front parking area, and when we pulled out to leave the next morning the normal exit route was blocked. We'd not been warned about this and ended up having to do a tight turn-around and go out the entrance. A heads-up at check-in would have been welcomed. We camped at Outpost Campground & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Joy O RV Park, Denmark, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This was a one-night stay for us. We called ahead and were told that they'd have something available and to just come on in. So we did. The first (and main) negative is the very bumpy, rutted gravel road leading into the park. This is a 5 mph kind of road and since it is about 1/4 mile long you bump your way for a while. However the pull-throughs were straight and level and long enough to not have to unhook. As mentioned previously the electrical hook-ups are a little rough looking, but worked fine. Overall a perfectly fine place to stop for a night or two. We camped at Joy O RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Landing Point RV Park, Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here while exploring the Cape Girardeau area. The park is clean and conveniently located. There is a large section of full-timers at one end of the park, but it was tidy and didn't seem to detract from the overall experience. We were in a pull-through site in the "transient" area that was very large and level. We decided to stay two extra nights due to weather, and had to move to a back-in site because our pull-through had been booked. The back-in site was also large and level. The owners were working hard mowing and raking and had the park looking good in spite of heavy rains. We camped at The Landing Point RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

America's Best Campground, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We spent several nights in the park while exploring the Branson area. We appreciated the convenient location without being right in the middle of things. This parks manages to be quiet and a little off the beaten path while still being very quick to access Branson. Check-in was quick and the folks in the office were friendly and helpful. I emptied a propane tank while I was there and appreciated the convenient on-site fill. The park was only about 33% occupied while we were there so things seemed roomy enough. I imagine that things get a lot more cozy during peak season. We did use the laundry room and everything worked well. We camped at America's Best Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Toad Suck Campground COE, Conway, Arkansas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We very much enjoyed our stay a Toad Suck Campground. We were in site A02 which looked right out on the Arkansas River and the locks. The site was surrounded by mature, tall trees. I had to place my satellite dish out toward the road, and if you have a roof mount it may not work. Good power and water, and excellent AT&T and Verizon service. After a string of $40 per night private campgrounds $20 seemed like a bargain. We camped at Toad Suck Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Hwy 97 RV Park, Pleasanton, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This seemed like the best choice in Pleasanton, but I'll look elsewhere next time. This is clearly a park built for oilfield workers, and most of the tenants are long-term with rough looking trailers and junky sites. The site we were rented had over 100 beer bottle caps on the ground, some of which were quite old. Gives a pretty good idea of site cleanliness. The rate of $45 seemed extremely high for a dusty gravel site with no amenities. We camped at Hwy 97 RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Texan RV Park, Athens, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We were in a long pull-through in the front section. It was very long and allowed us park the truck either in front of or behind the trailer. In spite of recent pad work the site was fairly uneven, requiring both side-to-side and especially front-t0-back leveling. Even as were were there they were adding material to a rolling sites, so perhaps that is a work in progress. Didn't use their internet, but it was nice to see various free and pay options based on what you need. We camped at Texan RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Snow to Sun, Weslaco, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is primarily a WInter Texan park, with a mix of mobile homes, park models, and RV's. Most of the guests are from Canada and the northern United States. Plenty of activities including shuffleboard, horseshoes, card games, bingo, etc. We stayed two weeks in early march and weren't looking for social activities, but the park is clean and secure, and our site was fine. Overall the park is looking a bit old and tired, like so many of the older snowbird parks in the Valley. We camped at Snow to Sun in a Fifth Wheel.

Intermountain Motor Homes and RV Camp, Wendell, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a simple campground offering 30 amp power and water at the sites. The owner told us that she's gone to a $25 flat rate with no discounts. I applaud that approach, as the usual inflated campground fee minus discounts is a hassle. Plenty of green grass is well kept around the sites, and quite a few trees provide welcome shade. There are plenty of rules and this really doesn't strike me as a family campground, but that worked out perfectly for us. The campground was quiet and well-kept, at an economical rate. We camped at Intermountain Motor Homes and RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Utah Lake State Park, Provo, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This Utah State Park offers 30 amp electric and water at the sites. There are both pull-through and back-in sites. The pull-through sites are tight for larger rigs, but usable. Dump station could be used on the way in or out. The booth attendant wasn't much help, telling us to drive around till we found a site, and then come back (without dropping the trailer) to confirm our selection. Why she couldn't tell us what sites were open is a mystery. The camp hosts got us into a site and gave us a ride back to the booth the register. Crazy number of midges flying about. Fair amount of trash in the boat ramp and fishing pier areas. We camped at Utah Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Parkway RV Resort, Orland, California

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a couple of nights. We got a large pull-through that was long but not really wide. Paired power outlets with the next site, which wasn't occupied while we were there. Sites and roads were wet and sloppy but to be fair the area has had a huge amount of rain. Excellent wi-fi which was nice for a change. Easy access just off of I-5. Plenty of nearby gas stations and restaurants. We camped at The Parkway RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Orange Grove RV Park, Bakersfield, California

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very interesting RV park built within an old orange grove. Sites are separated by orange trees which grow the best oranges we have ever tasted. Guests are encouraged to pick the oranges, and there are more than enough for everyone. Check in staff was the most efficient that we've dealt with in many years. How refreshing to get in and out in just a matter of a minute or so. Store carries ice, snacks, and a few other items. Decent little workout room was welcome as it rained quite a bit while we were there and couldn't get out much. We camped at Orange Grove RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Needles KOA, Needles, California

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We spent two nights here on our way from Texas up the west coast. This is a desert type campground, so not a lot of trees or shade. The sites were large and simple to get into. Very few 50 amp sites so we got a 30. The socket was loose and my 50-to-30 amp adapter showed signs of overheating due to a poor connection. The first section of road off of IH-40 from the east was very rough. I noticed that taking the exist to the west and driving back to the park was about the same distance with much better road. We camped at Needles KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Just across the bridge in Arizona you can find gas for as much as 1.50 cheaper than along IH-40 in California. Literally a 5 minute drive.

Picacho Peak RV Resort (55+ park), Picacho, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for three nights and would certainly return. The park was very clean and well landscaped. Our site was just wide enough for our trailer with three slides, but the length was fine, and we didn't have any issues getting the utilities connected. No wifi except in the library, which is fine with us. Cell coverage was strong. Noise from IH-10 and the railroad track beyond was always present. We slept with the AC blower going and the white noise was sufficient. Office hours are 9:00 am till 3:00 pm, and since we were leaving the park early and returning later we had an issue with getting in to pay for an extra night. We camped at Picacho Peak RV Resort (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Alamosa KOA, Alamosa, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

After reading the previous reviews I almost passed this one by. I'm glad that I didn't because it was just fine and MUCH nicer than the only other choice in town. We got a 50 amp pull-through at the back of the park with a great view of the surrounding snow-covered peaks out our back window. These pull-through sites are huge, easily 100' long. You can position a large trailer in the middle and then park either in front or behind.

Park store is clean and well stocked. Staff was friendly. We camped at Alamosa KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
