Camp Ocean Forest, Emerald Isle, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

Very friendly host and the sites are literally 25 steps to the beach. That being said the sites are very small and very close together. This means your outside area is your neighbors sewer hose and hookups and slide out. There was enough room for the awning to go out however. But you are at the beach so spend your time there I guess. Also the park really only has 6 sites available for nightly rental the rest of the sites are all permanent residents living in mostly older park models and 1970's mobile homes. We camped at Camp Ocean Forest in a Fifth Wheel.

Indian Lakes RV Campground Thousand Trails, Batesville, Indiana

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Campground is very run down and not maintained. It is a Thousand Trails campground and also is a KOA. We used Passport America for half price or I would have been very upset. Grass was a foot long and the gravel site pads are mostly mud and that are not level, the hookups are on the wrong side in some sites. Sites were laid out wierd and there were a number of older units in there as full timers and they were run down too. I would not return there even for half price again. We camped at Indian Lakes RV Campground Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

Blackhawk Valley Campground, Rockford, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Wonderful place to stay, very large sites with fire rings and picnic tables, we used Passport America for the low rate of $14. Did not use any restrooms. I Believe they are closing for the season in mid October. We camped at Blackhawk Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Marais RV Park & Campground, Grand Marais, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Have stayed here several times. Lucky enough to get a lakefront site. Those are first come first serve and not reservable. However other sites are very nice and they all have fire rings also. Shops and restaurants are all within walking distance. Expect colder weather than anything you lookup on the weather apps. There is wifi available but it is quite pricey, something in the $10 a day range through a provider in town. (Admin note: free Wi-Fi at office) Great place to go and hosts are great too. We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Kearny State Recreation Area, Kearney, Nebraska

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Would not go out of the way to go to this park. Windmill State Park and Morman Island State Park are both right on I-80 and are both much nicer than this park. The bugs were bad and many sites only have 30 amp and they are all uneven gravel pads. We camped at Fort Kearny State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Walnut Woods State Park, West Des Moines, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

What a great campground, huge sites and lots of grass. Had a great stay right off the freeway. Can't believe anyone would pay to stay in a private campground when this is so close with such a great price. We camped at Walnut Woods State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Ponderosa Campground, Cody, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2013 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Good place to stop over for a night or two. It's right in town and close to everything. Downside is you don't get the feeling your camping in cowboy country because your right in town. If camping with kids and want a true camping experience you should consider one of the federal campgrounds west of town. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Buffalo Crossing RV Park, West Yellowstone, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2013 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Close to everything in town. Would not recommend if you have pets. The pet area is gravel and dirt, and pets are not allowed on the grass. Campground is not paved yet, and the rocks are hard to walk on. Sites are level and modern (new). It should be better once they pave and put in cement pads. It should also be noted that you do not get the feeling you are camping at all. There are no campfires, and you are right next to your neighbors with absolutely no trees or separation. If you want a true camping experience you should really consider advance reservations at one of the numerous campgrounds inside Yellowstone Park. The weather is generally mild enough all summer where you wouldn't need air, and you can get by easily without hookups. IMO it's much better inside the park even without hookups. We camped at Buffalo Crossing RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bismarck KOA, Bismarck, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

A little pricey even by KOA standards at $48. But it's the only campground right off the freeway. Highway noise is also an issue, but with A/C going you don't hear it. Neat and clean as you'd expect from a KOA. Would stay again. A cheaper alternative would be the State Park, 8 miles south of town. Price was only $20 for 30 Amp and water. We camped at Bismarck KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, Mandan, North Dakota

Overall Rating:

Great campground only 8 miles south of I-94 (Bismarck). Numerous first come first serve sites are available with 30 amp and water with a dump station on the way out. Large sites and lots of room for the kids and pets with a great playground and river access for swimming. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Turtle River State Park, Arvilla, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

What a great campground, beautiful large sites with trees and grass. Would highly recommend this park to stay for multiple days . Half of the sites are first come first serve, so you should be able to get a site. Great place, very relaxing and there were no bugs to speak of. May or may not be able to get satellite signal because of all the trees. Local channels available over the air however, and Verizon 3G was good for data and cell service. Would definitely return. We camped at Turtle River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Roughrider Campground, Minot, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

OK for a night or two, mostly long term oil workers staying here now. Fully recovered from floods. Sites are close together but will accommodate most any rig. Would stay again for a night. The store does not have any ice for sale. We camped at Roughrider Campground in a Motorhome.
