Country Hills Campground, Marathon, New York

Overall Rating:

Just a few pull through sites, good idea to make a reservation. Up the hill out of Marathon from I-81. Be sure to return back to Marathon unless traveling west. Extremely friendly owners. We camped at Country Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Alton RV Park, Galloway, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Very close gravel sites. We had a "back in", which was really a parallel parking spot along the road...but we had two of these spots and were able to back directly in and pull directly out when leaving. There was a nice shaded grassy spot on the streetside. People were very friendly. Power was low in the afternoon with all the rigs running A/C, but our power monitor did not shut us down. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Picture Lake Campground, Petersburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Several long level paved pull through sites for the traveler. Park is mostly long term combination of workers and local military. Mostly well kept. Immaculate bathhouse. Pool looked inviting, but we did not use. Small fishing lake, where our Golden Retriever enjoyed a swim. Convenient to I85, just south of Petersburg. Worked well for us for an overnight, we would probably return. We camped at Picture Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Summer Wind R.V. Park, Dawson, West Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Great place for an overnight stay just east of Sandstone Mountain. Pretty view of the pasture and the New River Valley. Gravel pull through site was perfect for an overnight. The host came to meet us when we pulled in, and was super friendly. Good WIFI, good Verizon, and a couple of TV channels. We camped at Summer Wind R.V. Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Viking Village Campground & Resort, Stoughton, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty grounds and close to Madison. Gravel parking surrounded by grass with nice shade trees. Good power, water, and over the air TV. Gravel was mounded on the sites, ours was not quite wide enough for the wheels of our camper, and had a 12" slope to the surrounding grass. Others were better. Sites are back in, and you have to disconnect and park parallel to the road in front of your site. Huge grassy area behind camper. Lots of big rigs here, no problem. Would stay again. We camped at Viking Village Campground & Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Waukon City Park, Waukon, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Grassy sites, mostly on a hillside. The few 50 amp sites are more level, and you can drive around to pull-through. Most sites are small, best suited for tents, popups, small B, C, or travel trailer. Free firewood (wet and smokey). Lots of walking at the park, some cost for city pool. Some sites are full of trees, fire rings and picnic tables, with possibly room for a tent. We has to park our 35' fifth wheel diagonally on the site to fit. Everyone we met in this area was very friendly. We camped at Waukon City Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Deer Run Resort, Elkader, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Large grassy site with trees that have grown enough to provide some shade. Long, wide level concrete pad with concrete patio, picnic table. Fire pit. Firewood is $10 for a large wheelbarrow and is dry, not smokey. WIFI was $3 weekend or $4 week, and is decent except for weekend nights. Ok over the air TV. Washer was $3.50, did not use. We camped at Deer Run Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Hickory Hollow Campground, Utica, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Long level gravel site surrounded by grass. Our site was in the open sun, some others appear to have shade. Good utilities, excellent Wi-Fi, and a few over the air TV stations. Decent laundry room. Friendly staff in office gave us great advice on finding walk-in medical care. Small creek for the dog to wade in on her walk. Close to interstate but no noticeable noise. Great place for one or two nights and a great value at the Passport America rate. We camped at Hickory Hollow Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Sauder Village Campground, Archbold, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We selected a pull through with electric, no water, no sewer since they said that the back in FHU sites were not long enough. Many of the back in sites look plenty long enough for our 60' length hooked up. The site was gravel and fairly level. Trees are growing and will provide more shade in future, newer sites are in the direct sun. We didn't make use of the pool and hot tub in the hotel, which are available to campers. We camped at Sauder Village Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone, Verona, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Nice paved sites surrounded by grass. Good utilities, excellent WIFI, good cable, pool, hot tub, playground, basketball courts, tennis courts. Back in sites are at a 90 angle to the road, some are difficult to back into. Pull through sites can be difficult for larger rigs. Some of the sites have gravel in the immediate patio area, others are grass or mudpits depending on the shade and use of rugs. Overall, very nice campground. We camped at The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone in a Fifth Wheel.

Country Hills Campground, Marathon, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Great stopover. Nice level pull-through, gravel roads in great shape. Campground has lots of seasonals, and quite a few transient sites, and is immaculate. Owners are extremely friendly, guide you to your site, and RV themselves. Over the air TV from Cortland was fine. No Wi-Fo due to the rural area. Follow campground directions, not your GPS.
