Fort Bliss RV Park (Military FamCamp), El Paso, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2011 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

This is a really nice military campground. No reservations though but we had no trouble getting a site. It is not on the base but is patrolled by security. There is a military fuel station/mini mart right across from the campground that sells diesel fuel. Base is not far away and the PX is wonderful. The commissary is also great but a new one is under construction. We were in the new section and the laundry/bath house facility was really nice. The only drawbacks for those sensitive to noise is the major road that runs in front of the campground and also the crime activity along the border. Rate reflects weekly rate plus National Access Card discount. We will stay here again. We camped at Fort Bliss RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Stockton RV Park, Fort Stockton, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2011 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a good place to stop for a night or two. Staff went out of their way for their customers. Park is mainly long term campers but they have a row in the back for overnight. Campground is dirt and gravel and it tracks inside your rig. Good Verizon air card and phone service. Spectacular view from the park. Easy on/off the interstate. Park had a water problem due to the extreme cold. No water was available and repairs had to be made to their well. Thankfully, we always carry some fresh water on board. Situation was corrected within a day. The winds can howl at this place. We would stay here again. We camped at Fort Stockton RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Alamo Fiesta RV Resort, Boerne, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2011 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We moved to this park because we could not extend at our current park. Needed a place to wait out the winter storm. Staff was friendly and our site was long and gravel. We did not check out any amenities because we were hunkered down to ride out the brutal cold and wind that hit the area. Strong 3G Verizon air card service. Due to the extreme cold, the water from the riser was frozen (no fault of the park). Easy on/off the interstate. A little pricey but we would consider staying here again. We camped at Alamo Fiesta RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

JBSA Fort Sam Houston RV Park (Military FamCamp), Fort Sam Houston Army Post, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2011 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice military campground. The staff is friendly and helpful. Good roads and concrete pads to park on. Excellent Verizon 4G air card service. I am surprise that there have not been many comments on the noisiness of the campground. Trains run frequently and if you are bothered by noise, you will not like it here. Roads on the base (not the campground) are some of the worst I have encountered. Laundry is $.75 per load wash/dry but there is no place to fold clothes. We would happily return here again. We camped at JBSA Fort Sam Houston RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Gulf Coast RV Resort, Beaumont, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2011 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a good place to stop for a couple of nights as long as it does not rain. The parking pads are just wide enough for the RV and after rain, it is a muddy mess to hook up. There is no drainage at all. Verizon aircard and phone service was good. Laundry was adequate. Easy on/off the interstate. There is a train that runs just behind the park (pretty loud) but did not run at night. There are also sports fields right behind the park that would be pretty annoying if their lights were on. Office staff was friendly. Nightly rate was for Passport America. We would only stay here again if we knew no rain was forecast. We camped at Gulf Coast RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2011 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a state park located in an urban area. The campsites are nice but there is not much else to do in the campground. Washers/dryers are old and most were not working when we were here. Lots of work going on along the levy in the park, constructing a new sea wall so you hear pile drivers at work 7 days a week. You have to run a gauntlet of construction vehicles in the state park to get to the campground. The park office personnel are very helpful. Easy to get to the free ferry to go the French Quarter. We would stay here again. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pensacola RV Park, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2011 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This park is good for a couple nights. Easy on/off the interstate. The owner keeps some sites for overnighters. The rest are filled with long term campers. Check in is kind of awkward as you are blocking the main campground road. We had to turn around and come back out to get to our back in site. We felt a little rushed trying to get parked because other rigs were coming in and we were blocking the road. Verizon aircard and phone service was good. Laundry room was adequate. We would return to this campground again. We camped at Pensacola RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Eagle's Roost RV Resort, Lake Park, Georgia

Date of Stay: December, 2010 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great military campground. We had a back in site and stayed for a month and rate reflects the monthly price. Campground is neat and clean. Awarded S.M.A.R.T. Military Campground of the Year in for the second consecutive year. Bath facilities are among the cleanest I have ever seen. Laundry is free. There is a Verizon tower on base but we really did not get a good signal for our aircard without our external antenna. Commissary and exchange are small but adequate. We will stay here again. We camped at Eagle's Roost RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Albany RV Resort, Albany, Georgia

Date of Stay: December, 2010 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park for a couple of days stop. The campground is full of long term campers but several sites are open for over-niter's. Sites had concrete pads and roads were gravel and wide for maneuvering. Staff and fellow campers were very friendly. Verizon cell and air card worked well. Lots of trees that could impact roof mounted satellite systems. We would stay here again. We camped at Albany RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Capital City RV Park, Montgomery, Alabama

Date of Stay: December, 2010 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This is a little bit of distance off the interstate. Long, level pull through sites with escort to site. No room for parking your tow vehicle in the front of your site. Must park it to the side and rear of your RV. If you want to use your satellite dish on a tripod, they are very strict on where you can place it. Verizon cell and air card each had 4 bars of service. Most of the occupants are permanents or snowbirds. Nice clean looking park. We would stay here again. We camped at Capital City RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nashville KOA, Nashville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: November, 2010 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access from the interstates. Site was high in the front but level side-to-side. Campground roads are in need of repair since the flood. Verizon cell service was adequate but we could not use our Verizon air card without a amp and booster antenna. Staff was friendly and helpful. Laundry was great as all the equipment is new and plentiful, $1.50 per wash/$1.00 to dry. You can arrange for a shuttle ($10 per person round trip) to downtown Nashville to see the sites. We would return to this campground. We camped at Nashville KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Grandma's RV Camping, Shepherdsville, Kentucky

Date of Stay: November, 2010 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great stopover for a night or two. Campground has easy access to/from the interstate. Pull into a site, then go to the office to pay. Sites in front of park are long pull throughs allowing the traveler to stay hooked up if only staying overnight. Verizon air card signal is 4 bars of broadband. Park is nicely landscaped and very clean. No problem setting up our Direct TV. If you are sensitive to noise, this park is close to the interstate and you can hear the train in the distance but was really not noticeable inside. We would stop here again. We camped at Grandma's RV Camping in a Fifth Wheel.

Fox Den Acres, New Stanton, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2010 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We visit the area several times a year visiting family and usually stay in one of the KOAs located on I-70. We were very dissatisfied with their high priced, unlevel sites so we found an alternative at Fox Den Acres. This campground has 2 sections: the upper level is heavily treed and the lower section is a large, level field with full hookups. We have a 40 ft 5th wheel and this was perfect for us. We found the staff friendly and helpful, Verizon cell and air card worked satisfactorily, and it was easy in/out to the nearby interstate. The price is much lower that the KOA's. We will stay at this campground from now on when we are in the area. We camped at Fox Den Acres in a Fifth Wheel.

Pavilion RV Park, West Monroe, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2010 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Popular campground for an overnight stop. Easy access from the interstate. For people sensitive to noise, this campground would be too noisy as there is a dog pound, busy road, and truck stop nearby. Verizon cell and aircard service was adequate. Did not use DirecTV as cable was very good. Accepts Passport America with limitations and they do take credit cards. Bathrooms and laundry were nice. We would stop here again. We camped at Pavilion RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

River Town Campground, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2010 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We chose this campground because we wanted to visit the Vicksburg area and we have a big rig. This is the first campground we have stayed at that we asked to move sites. Our original site was near the bath house (assigned by management) and the permanent campers walked right through our site right up by the door. We would not have been as bothered if they had used the perimeter of our site. We noticed they placed another camper in that space after we moved, and they also moved to another site. Verizon cell and aircard worked adequately. This campground is wide open so getting DirecTV was not an issue. Did not like the laundry. We would not return to this campground. We camped at River Town Campground in a Travel Trailer.
