About flaymingyon

We camp for fun and exploration of an area. We like to road bike, mountain bike, hike and enjoy the beauty of nature. We like quiet with hopefully a buffer between us and our neighbors. We try to be very mindful campers with very little intrusion on others and expect the same.

Deception Pass State Park, Oak Harbor, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Heavily forested and thus, fairly dark. Huge park with hundreds of campsites and thousands of acres to explore. Miles of trails. Rainy and as a result muddy. Jet noise was significant! Conversations can't even really go on when the jets are passing. They pass through about every five minutes when they are practicing. I loved this campground as a kid but the new type of jets the navy is using makes it unpleasant. Maybe a day trip to explore more trails but I don't really want to stay here again. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Bay View State Park, Mount Vernon, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We've camped at this park whenever we can starting in 1982. Beach access, good roads nearby for bicycling, and the fairly private woodsy sites are what we like. Currently construction is happening on a new welcome/pay booth. Rather noisy. The park workers were using blowers and mowers so that added to the noise. Some jet noise from Whidbey Island can be heard. Pretty quiet campers during mid-week. We camped at Bay View State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wenberg County Park , Stanwood, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This campground really revolves around activities on Lake Goodwin. Only one real trail to explore which takes off as you exit the park kind of close to the paybooth. The other trails/paths just get you from campground to day use/lakeshore. Campsites are can be quite shady but not a lot of privacy from your neighbors, and in our case muddy. Hours long downpours created huge puddles. Our picnic table was rotting with chunks of wood missing and smelled moldy. We never sat at it or put anything on it. Hopefully an upgrade is coming as neighboring sites had much newer tables. A huge improvement of the lakefront day use area with fishing pier, swim area, boat launch and docks is less than a year old and is beautiful. Not too busy mid week. I'd come back if the weather was good and I had a way to utilize the lake. There is an $8.00 reservation fee which is not represented in the above price. We camped at Wenberg County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This park is in the convergence zone which means it can really get dumped on with rain. Be prepared for a deluge. Bring water toys for the lake. Enjoy a meal at Country Burger which is just down the road. They have lots of interesting and tasty meal choices.

Salt Creek Recreation Area, Port Angeles, Washington

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of our favorite places so we had a free weekend in December and decided Salt Creek would likely be quiet and available and it was! Water is turned off at the sites in December but they had a water filling station available near the pay station. Some logging was going on adjacent to the park which was noisy on Friday afternoon but then it was quiet for the weekend. Great trails, great views.

Roads through the hook-up sites seem confusing as they are one way and people get easily confused as to which way they should be going. Hook up sites are really tightly packed. This is why we camped in December so we didn't have anyone right next door. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Dosewallips State Park, Brinnon, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

3 nights (Thurs, Fri, Sat). Site 54 has partial hookups, mostly shade, green lawn (most of the park lawn is dead this time of year), and loud road noise which does calm during the night. Many huge groups of campers; found it hard to believe that the limit of 8 people per site was being enforced. Enjoyed the river access and the trails. We camped at Dosewallips State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Shadow Mountain Campground RV Park, Port Angeles, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Reservation was correct. Staff was friendly and efficient. Sites are tight. There are trees that provide a visual break between rows but neighbors are very close. Sites are assigned based on the length of your rig. Tow vehicle is parked perpendicular to trailer. Still took up some of the roadway but thankfully there wasn't a lot of traffic. Our fire pit had some empty pop cans in it when we arrived so I didn't rate the park cleanliness as perfect. Road noise is significant, and it doesn't quiet down at night as much as I had expected. 60 mph speed limit plus lots of cars pass on this stretch crossing rumble strips making even more noise. WiFi can get annoying as it disconnects frequently. The park provided us access to trails we wanted to explore, but I wouldn't consider this a destination park. We camped at Shadow Mountain Campground RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

The store was well stocked, and the gas station made fueling very convenient. Granny's Café is just down the road and has good food. Biking and hiking trails are nearby as well as Lake Sutherlin and Lake Crescent.

Rasar State Park, Concrete, Washington

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed two nights. Cost was $35 per night plus an $8 reservation fee for a total of $78. Very large sites with the pull-thrus. They have quite a few sites for campers traveling together - these are back in sites. Lots of trees with a few sun spots that peek through. Very clean park. Strange that there was hot water for the showers but not for hand washing at the sinks. Lots of trails to explore that are well signed. Definitely would camp here again. We camped at Rasar State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Fairholme Campground, Olympic National Park, Port Angeles, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

National Park Service campground. Best suited for tents and smaller rigs which is what we like. Heavily wooded, a few waterfront sites, sites can be fairly unlevel, road noise in the distance. Hiking and biking trails nearby. Typically packed during the summer months, but after Labor Day we were able to get a nice waterfront site with a steep walk down to the water. Lake Crescent is a beautiful but cold lake. Will definitely camp here again. We camped at Fairholme Campground, Olympic National Park in a Travel Trailer.

Ocean City State Park, Ocean Shores, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Large campground with many types of sites (wooded, open, adjoining) in four loops. We paid $38 for a non-hookup site which included an $8.00 reservation fee. Seemed a bit high. I didn't think the state park web page picture of our site #27 was a very accurate representation. However, booking three weeks in advance, this was the only site available. Nice beach access with a walk across the dunes. Very convenient to Ocean Shores. We camped at Ocean City State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Olympia Campground, Tumwater, Washington

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed a couple times a year for the past 3-4 years. We like the woodsy feel to the park. It is close to the freeway but you really don't hear it. Convenient to Olympia and handy for a night to two. Years ago we stayed in the full hookup area and found it to be too close to fellow campers. We now choose partial hookup sites. Store is well stocked, workers are friendly. I'd give a higher rating if they would reopen the bathroom/shower facility in the back half. A couple of portable toilets serve the area in the summer. A nice facility is attached to the store, but its quite a distance away from the tent and partial hookup sites. We camped at Olympia Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Washington Park Campground, Anacortes, Washington

Date of Stay: February, 2012 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

For our setup this park works fine. We are a 17' trailer and we like a woodsy setting. Reminds me of a USFS campground. Being February, I expected the water to be turned off at the sites, but it was on! Bathrooms were closed for the season in the camp loops - a bit inconvenient but we had our own in the trailer. Very shaded. Great trails. I'd stay again. We camped at Washington Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Salt Creek Recreation Area, Port Angeles, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2006 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

A large variety of sites that should suit everyone. We were prepared to camp without hookups and that's what we chose. We had a woodsy site with stairs down to the water. Lots of hiking trails. Though our hike up to Striped Peak was cut short due to the closeness of gunshots. Camp hosts were very nice and fellow campers were quiet. There is a very nice children's play area and basketball courts. This is a well known area for tide pool exploration. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Glory Hole Rec Area / Big Oak Campground, Angels Camp, California

Date of Stay: October, 2005 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

This is operated by the US Bureau of Reclamation. New Melones Lake has two recreation areas as the lake spans two counties. The Glory Hole Recreation Area in Calaveras County has two campgrounds Ironhorse and Big Oak. The sites are big and paved. Each has views of the lake and surrounding hills. This is a very popular lake for boating and fishing. It has a large marina and many boats and jet skis for rent. There are also 18 miles of mountain biking trails. We would stay here again. We camped at Glory Hole Rec Area / Big Oak Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is the most we've ever paid. Small sites and dirt pads. Nice facilities and lodge. Lots of activities for kids. Nice tent sites. Nice laundry facility. Manager seemed scattered. Stayed one night and found another place for the next 3 nights. We camped at Angels Camp RV & Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Auburn Gold Country RV Park, Auburn, California

Date of Stay: October, 2005 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Former KOA. Park is pretty well kept, but we were put in a site in a row with full-time residents' pretty run down trailers. They came and went all evening. The hot tub was nice; some laundry machines were out of order. If we ever need to stay here again we'll pay a couple extra $ for the "Prime" sites. They are primarily occupied by travelers and seem better landscaped with grass and plantings. We camped at Auburn Gold Country RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
