Pocahontas State Park, Chesterfield, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We were here for just an overnight as it was fully booked for the weekend as there was a 48 hour running race going on. There are many trails for hiking and biking and it would be a good destination. A little to far removed from I-95 or I-64 for an overnight unless you are going between the two. The sites in the rear portion of the campground were paved. The front part (lower numbers) were gravel. A first class state park. They should all be this nice. We camped at Pocahontas State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Locust Lake State Park, Barnesville, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We were here for an overnight. The park is near I-81 but you have to drive a round-about 7 mile trek through narrow potholed roads to get there. The park website said it was 2 miles to I-81 but that is as the crow flies. There had been a number of storms prior to our visit and there were many tree branches down and some severe erosion on the roads and campsite. I would hope that it is cleaned up prior to the busy season. We camped at Locust Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Santee State Park, Santee, South Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the older section (Lakeshore) and had a waterfront site. It was very peaceful and quite when we were there. Don't know how it is in the busy season. Lots of places to walk and enjoy the scenery. Did not use any of the facilities so can't comment on cleanliness. Good location for overnight along I-95. We camped at Santee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lums Pond State Park, Bear, Delaware

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The entrance booth was unmanned for the season so self registration is required if you don't have reservations online. Self registration must be cash only, no checks or credit cards. Some sites are unlevel front to back making leveling the trailer difficult. The sites are large and well spaced out. Some sites have the sewer connection near the road so a long hose may be required. Many trails for hiking and biking. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lazy Acres Campground, Fayetteville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We stop here often on our way back from Florida. It is close to I-95 but it's quiet. Some short trails around pond for dog walking. Many permanent residents that are not there during the day and are quiet at night. Great overnight stop. We camped at Lazy Acres Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Outdoor Adventure & Campground, Bethel, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is the second time that we stayed here. The first time was about 7 years ago. It is a good location to stay while traveling through the area. There is a bike/ped path right by the campground but it is only about 1 1/2 miles long. Good for a stroll, but too short for a bike ride. The sites are side by side but when we were here it was the off season and they were only using every other one so it wasn't an issue. We camped at Outdoor Adventure & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Schoodic Woods Campground, Winter Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is how all campgrounds should be. I have been to places where there might be a better view from the campsite but the facilities here are outstanding. Be sure to bring your bike if you have one as the bike trails are very enjoyable. You can travel around the entire park by bike and if you get tired you can load your bike on the free shuttle bus which also goes into the neighboring towns. Many things to do in the area including taking the passenger ferry to Bar Harbor. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Camden Hills State Park, Camden, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the open field at the front of the campground. Sites there are level and sunny in the morning which is nice on September mornings. Park is close to many attractions and excellent restaurants. Camden was having their Windjammer Festival on Labor Day Weekend and there were 18 ships taking part in the festivities. The wifi worked ok and AT&T service is marginal. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bucksport / Fort Knox KOA, Orland, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Very neat and clean park. It was quiet and there was very little road noise. Watch out for the turn into the park from Rt.1 as you will turn onto Rt. 166 and not Rt. 175 as the State as renumbered the road. We would stay here again when visiting this part of Maine. We camped at Bucksport / Fort Knox KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Pine Hill RV Park, Kutztown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the neatest well kept parks that I have stayed in. The owners were very helpful and immediately corrected a leak from the water faucet as soon as I brought it to their attention. A good location for overnight travel along the I-78 corridor. However, that closeness comes with a price and that is noise. Be prepared to run your AC even if you don't need it just to drown out the noise. We will stay here again on our trip south next spring. We camped at Pine Hill RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

They had put down fresh stone and graded the roads so mud and dust were not a problem. The sites are pretty close together with little or no privacy. On air TV reception was good and our AT&T signal was strong. The park wifi was so slow it was useless. Park is a good location for touring Gettysburg and the surrounding area and the operator was very helpful with maps, info and ideas that facilitated our visit. We camped at Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA, Jonestown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Roads were dusty and the hookups need upgrading. We paid for a pull through along the stream but most of the pull throughs required you to back in due to the location of the hookups and trees. The staff was helpful and the location is good for those traveling on I-81 or I-78. We would stay here again but would not pay extra for a pull through. We camped at Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Charlottesville KOA, Charlottesville, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The park was very clean and the roads were just graded with a fresh stone surface. We had a full hookup back in site that was angled for an easy entrance. The wifi worked and we had 3 bars on AT&T. The roads leading to the park are narrow and curvy. Take it slow and don't worry about holding up the speeders for a few minutes and you will be fine. We would stay here again. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Claytor Lake State Park, Dublin, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

The park is nicely developed. I can not comment on how it would be during the busy season as only 6 units were there when we stayed. There are short paved bike trails that run from the campground to the lake and along the lake so you don't have to ride on the roads. No wifi but our AT&T service was o.k. outside of the trailer. As it is just a few minutes from I-81 we would stay here again when traveling through the area. We camped at Claytor Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Flaming Arrow Campground, Whittier, North Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Park is a convenient place to stay while visiting the area. The roads in and out are very narrow and if you are towing a trailer you have to exit by the entrance road. That was not a problem, just a little confusing. The wifi worked good but there were not a lot of users. I would stay here again if visiting Cherokee, however I would try to find another area around GSMNP that was not just a "tourist trap". We camped at Flaming Arrow Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
