Akeley City Park and Campgrounds, Akeley, Minnesota

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

The Akeley City Park is very primitive but beautiful since it's located on 11th Crow Wing Lake. The sites vary in size and many of the sites require extra leveling procedures. The roads are dirt and can be very pot hole ridden especially in the spring. There are two restrooms which have showers but they only accommodate 1 person at a time. To my observation, there is no security, though it is possible that the town police do drive through at night.

I reserved a campsite in March (reservation for the season to start May 1, 2019) and was required to put down a $250 deposit. We arrived May 19th, 2019 and tried to park my RV on the site on May 20th, 2019. The site was so muddy that it was impossible to park or level the RV and I was mired in mud up to my hubcaps. Since more rain was in the forecast and I was traveling with two cats, as were my friends, I had to find a place to plug in the RV. I ended up having to pay $400 for 2 weeks until I could find another less expensive option. Now the City of Akeley refuses to give me back my deposit! At the Akeley City Counsel meeting on 06/12/2019 the audience was told that if you make a deposit to reserve a campsite (required) and when you arrive, the site is uninhabitable due to "an act of nature" (too muddy to park, tree falls, etc.) they get to keep your non-refundable (which isn't mentioned if you make the reservation over the phone) deposit! Do not make a reservation at this campground unless you are totally willing to lose your deposit even if the site reserved is uninhabitable. We camped at Akeley City Park and Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Nugget RV Park, St. Regis, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

It's a beautiful campground with friendly hosts. However the really great sites are taken by those staying for the season and therefore there are limited big rig sites. We did make our reservations very late and the owners (not their employee who works the desk) worked hard to accommodate our desires and multiple day (including over a busy weekend) stay. Campground is very well kept, not problem with utilities, level sites, etc. Wifi not good, but hey, we are in the middle of no where! We camped at Nugget RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

It was not necessary to disconnect our tow, we just did because we wanted to go into town. fairly tight turn at the top of the hill into the campground IF you are a big rig with a tow. Navigating the rest of the park is not difficult unless you are in the two sites up front.

Dick's RV Park, Great Falls, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Once again, i can't possibly explain other people's ratings of this park. While it's stuffed full because there is nothing from Miles City to Great Falls (300+ miles), it is not anything like what their web site shows. You have to wonder where they got their pictures. Permanent people get the trees. Overnighters are out in the open. It's a bit difficult for big rigs but not impossible. About 10 ft between sites with a patch of grass. Some roads are asphalt, some gravel. RVs park on gravel. It is certainly not what we are use to paying $38 for! We camped at Dick's RV Park in a Motorhome.

Small Towne RV Park, Terry, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This has to have been the biggest joke we have ever run into. We enter the town of Terry: every street has pot hole beyond pot hole. Went to the worst part of this very small town by the freeway, and see about 15 "rv sites" (only because they offer power, electric and sewer). We can't explain how this park got 8.2 rating. We have NEVER seen a worse RV park. We camped at Small Towne RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pueblo El Mirage RV Resort (55+ park), El Mirage, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

This is a 55+ park and mainly a winter destination. We actually stayed from the end of Sept 2015 through March 2016. The park wakes up starting in November when people start arriving. There are a plethora of activities, a wonderful sewing room with cutting boards, rulers, etc. pickle ball, lawn bowling, horse shoes, a bike club, cards, knitting, clogging, exercise classes, a restaurant etc. There is also a small post office, laundry, hair salon, nail salon and church on site. The people who live and stay in the park are just wonderful, friendly and helpful. You couldn't find nicer people. The park is gated and has security.

So the problem? Management of the park. The overall managers are terse, rude and have a don't care attitude. They downgrade a wonderful park with their attitudes. The stories abound of people being fired on the spot and even in public for slight or no infractions. The managers lack people skills and rule with an iron hand. We camped at Pueblo El Mirage RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are several malls with the typical Target, Kohls, WalMart, Safeway, Frys, movie theaters, etc. near by. El Mirage is basically the outskirts of Phoenix. There is a VA center, Banner Medical, a variety of dentists, doctors and veterinarians, and 7 or more quilt shops all within 10 to 15 miles. Many restaurants from fast food to fine dining. Many people come in March for the baseball training games. Phoenix is about 35 miles away.

Holiday Palms RV Park, Quartzsite, Arizona

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

It's the desert and the temperature is 106 in the evening! The park is clean even though there are many long term stays with older RVs. Mangers are nice and helpful. Sites are gravel with no patio but a picnic table. Easy access in and out. We camped at Holiday Palms RV Park in a Motorhome.

Durango RV Resort, Red Bluff, California

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

our rate was a week rate. Staff at this park are very nice. Park is clean and have very nice amenities. Streets are paved and pad and patio are concrete. Grass was green even though it was very hot and CA is having a drought. Garbage picked up at site. Pool could use some cleaning as there was dirt at the bottom and on the steps. Small shopping center with market only 1 block away. We enjoyed our stay. We camped at Durango RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Charged for a water feature site but can only see the water feature if outside in front of RV. If you really want a water feature I suggest you ask for 88 on up.

Hidden Village RV Park & Campground, Lynden, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We actually stayed here for 1 month since we were visiting family and had locked in for a month at $528. Sites are on dead grass and dirt. Many permanent party in Mobile homes and RVs in half the park. It's pretty amazing how full this park is since it's very difficult for big rigs, wifi is horrible, very few sites are satellite friendly and the cable tv also does not work. Some office staff very nice, one not so much. Playground was totally disgusting with mostly dirt (chips hadn't been replaced for years) and equipment that had never been cleaned. Very pretty camping area for tents on green grass with trees. It is off the road and quiet when it's not a weekend where 300 small kids show up. Every other RV is reversed so if you are traveling with people you could share common space; however, you could also share common space with many children! We camped at Hidden Village RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We stayed here to meet with relatives in Ferndale. Close to Bellingham, Ferndale and Blaine. After having our grandchildren visit one time we decided the play area was far too dirty to ever have them come back. Sites are VERY close together. Big rigs can have a very difficult time. Our site, B8 had to be one of the best in the park because we did get satellite. Many others are blocked by trees. End sites have FAR more space than other sites.

Overall Rating:

Campground hosts are very nice people who do what they can to accommodate. Good space between sites, grounds kept up. We stayed here in July 2015 in a Class A for about 10 days. Town of Twisp is also a fun place to visit the local pub. We camped at Riverbend RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Beautiful area just east of Cascades. Unfortunately other areas nearby were experiencing forest fires. Really good meat market on out skirts of town so stock up. Restaurant on the hill top not so impressive to us. Town of Winthrop also close by and surely worth a look see. Great little restaurant there across from hotel called Arrowleaf Bistro. also brewery and bakery.

Belvidere East / Exit 170 KOA, Midland, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park and good for big rigs. The roads in the park are easy to navigate, the park is clean, off the road to miss the noise but not far from I90. Gravel roads, picnic table and fire pit. We were in site 44 which was easy to enter and easy to exit for a big rig with a toad. We camped at Belvidere East / Exit 170 KOA in a Motorhome.

Kennebec KOA, Kennebec, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We had reservations. Were told that there were no sites large enough for our 43 ft with toad, we also requested Satellite friendly. Arrived around 4 pm, at least 10 - 15 sites big enough for our RV with Toad but they "said" all sold out. Our site indicated that the park had some problems, the sewer had been recently dug up with a pile of mud all around it. Used every inch of 25' sewer hose. Satellite would not work because of tree right in the SW area. "Something" has happened at this park involving the sewer sites which they are not admitting. We left after 5PM and EVERY site previously opened was still opened. We camped at Kennebec KOA in a Motorhome.

Casey's Riverside RV Park, Westfir, Oregon

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Don't be fooled by the ugly mobile home park you have to come through as you first turn off the main road - the RV park is gorgeous. Pull - throughs face the river, asphalt sites with grass and picnic table. We camped at Casey's Riverside RV Park in a Motorhome.

Columbia Riverfront RV Park, Woodland, Washington

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

The first time we stayed at this park we really enjoyed it because of the wonderful view. Unfortunately we returned this year in Oct. We'd made a reservation 2 weeks in advance, stressing that we wanted a pull-through, were 43 ft. with a tow and needed 50 amp. When we got there we discovered that this park has converted one site into 2 sites, making parking very close. Worse yet, there is only one power pole and whoever arrives first gets the 50 amp (which is not told to you when you make the reservation). Being an all electric RV out set up went from the normal 10 minutes to a 1.5 hr. saga as they tried to hook us up to a 50 amp 2 sites away! ONLY after the nice man next door agreed to move his 50 amp to one site away could we finally reach his 50 amp with our 50 ft line AND an extension. And we needed an extension for not only the power cord but also the sewer and the cable. This is NOT a user friendly RV park because of the conversion of one site into two. In my mind if you have the policy "first come, gets the 50 amp", you cannot take reservations for a 50 amp without telling them of your greedy policy - you get charged for a 50 amp but you may not get one. We camped at Columbia Riverfront RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cute little RV park with beautiful lush grass between sites. Some sites pull through sites are easily 80ft long and easy to navigate. Park surrounded by trees with a BBQ restaurant in walking distance. Not a big park, but extremely gracious and friendly hosts. We camped at Deer Creek Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Wellington KOA, Wellington, Kansas

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Wellington KOA is not up to KOA standards in our opinion. It's fine for an overnight stay. People are nice enough, but it's not a destination stay or even a 2 night stay. Business was slow in late April; probably, 2 to 4 permanent party and 2 others overnight with us. You can do better. We camped at Wellington KOA in a Motorhome.
