Idaho Falls Elks, Idaho Falls, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This RV park requires membership in the Elks organization. There are 4 spots with RV hookups; shared water with two spigots. There were only two rigs here when we camped so the shared water wasn't an issue. I put a two way spigot splitter in case another rig came in and needed to share. The positive side: the price of $10/night is hard to beat, the staff is friendly, the spots are in a parking lot but we felt safe. Spots are asphalt and fairly level. You look out at a beautiful golf course across the street. The negatives: There is a bar across the street and the patrons get very drunk and loud until the place closes at 2 a.m. There are several loud trains nearby. Because of the noise (no fault of the Elks) I doubt we would stay here again. We camped at Idaho Falls Elks in a Motorhome.

Pinnacles Campground, Pinnacles National Park, California

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a rustic park. The sites are large with plenty of room for our 34' motorhome. There are plenty of shade trees. The sites are gravel and dirt. No water at the site so be sure to fill your fresh water tank before you park. There are a couple of threaded water faucets within the park. The electricity worked fine, there are 30 and 50 amp plugs but only the 30 amp works. Lots of potholes, so be careful getting to your site. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Motorhome.

Great hikes in the National Park. We hiked around bat caves and up to a scenic reservoir. We saw a bobcat, deer, and heard raccoons and coyotes at night.

Indian Wells RV Resort, Indio, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $67.00
Overall Rating:

The park was very quiet and clean. There were lots of long term residents in the park. The residents and staff were very friendly. The pace was a little tight but large enough to enable us to fully extend our four slides. We would stay here again. We camped at Indian Wells RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Portland Fairview RV Park, Fairview, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We have been to this park three times in the past and we were always satisfied. However, we had stayed on the upper level the last 3 times. We had asked to stay on the upper tier again this time, but we were told there were none available on that tier and pretty full.

When making reservations, my wife asked if we would be assigned a spot among long termers. The office person told her the long termers were interspersed throughout the park. We agreed to reservations for a week.

Beware, the lower tier is nothing like the top tier. No views, dead grass, and lots of clutter from full/long termers. The park states that no storage is allowed on the site, but the guy behind us had a dozen or more cardboard boxes in his site.

There isn't a lot of space between sites, no view of any kind, and you are jammed into a long row of rigs.

Ironically, there were several empty spots in the top tier. I'm thinking they stick people in the "cattle call" spots when they stay for more than a few days.

We were extremely disappointed and will be forced to look for another RV park next time. We camped at Portland Fairview RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This park is a reasonable distance from Portland. You can get a bus right outside the park, which takes you to the metro train into Portland. It's also a reasonable drive to the Columbia Gorge and the falls.

A great location when visiting Newport. Close to old town, crabbing and next to Rogue Ales Brewery and Distillary. There is adequate space between sites. The sites were concrete and level. Good satellite reception. We camped at Port of Newport RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Rogue Brewery and Local Ocean restaurant and fish market are both excellent. Go to Fred Meyer and buy an inexpensive crab trap and catch some beautiful crabs with the locals; an easy walk from your rig. Laundry facilities are excellent.

Roamer's Rest RV Park, Tualatin, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are very close together. We had to reposition our rig because our slide would have hit the neighbor's awning. We were disappointed that we were assigned a 30 amp service without being asked our preference. Most parks of this size have 50 amp service at all sites. My wife asked why we were not offered a 50 amp site, the woman said, "you didn't ask". Not a real customer friendly response. She did offer us a new site, but by this time we were already set up. Lesson learned for us. But, we usually don't encounter this problem. We camped at Roamer's Rest RV Park in a Motorhome.
