Gulf State Park Campground, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Got lucky to get 2 nights here to finish out or spring break trip. Very large park, but relatively quiet for it's size. Seemed very clean and well taken care of. Sites were decently spaced out considering the location. Beach is beautiful, but a bit of a hike to get there. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Used this park as a home base for visiting New Orleans for several days. Nice clean park and fairly normal for what we see and expect with a state park. Only complaints are that the water hydrant at the dump station had very little flow and the killer mosquitos at dusk. Convenient to New Orleans. As others suggest, use the Algiers ferry to get to the city and get a transit pass from RTA to ride street cars and busses. The zoo is nice and has free parking. After the zoo, we took a bus to the French Quarter area and took the streetcar back. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort McAllister State Park, Richmond Hill, Georgia

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the Savanah area. Didn't spend a ton of time at the campground. Lots of hurricane damage that was mostly cleaned up, but some areas of the park are still closed. We got a pull through site and had plenty of room. Campground was quiet while we were there. We made a reservation, but reservations are not for a specific site. You just pick a site when you get there. Also, you cannot enter the park to check in after 10pm. We didn't know this, but we adjusted and spent the night at Cracker Barrel. The campground credited us one night on our reservation and let us check in at 9am the next morning, which I was surprised with. The policies seemed a bit odd, but didn't impact us too much. We visited the historic fort and the visitor center before we left. Was enough to spend about an hour, as there isn't too much to it, especially in the off season. We camped at Fort McAllister State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cold Brook County Park, Climax, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2006 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty average campground, part of a larger Kalamazoo County park. 29 sites with water and electric on one loop, 22 rustic in a separate area. Large trees, so most sites get good shade. Water is at every third site, so you may need 75' of hose to reach, 30a and 20a electric is at each site. Within 15 minutes to Binder Park Zoo, and Kellogs Cereal City. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Spent most of our time away, instead of doing camping activities, so no good handle on amenities. Beach was on the other side of the lake as part of the park, would have been a long walk or a short ride. Would return again if going back to Zoo or Cereal City. We camped at Cold Brook County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Yogi Bear Jellystone Park Camp-Resort, Millbrook, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2006 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

As others have said, this park is aging. Playground, while having more than others, is getting tired. Trees in some bad places for navigation. Free wireless internet, but wasn't working during our stay. At $50/night + $3 per pet, I was expecting much more, specifically clean and shiney. We had fun, just not enough to justify the price. It was the best option for where we needed to be, next time, I'd pick one of the others in the area. We camped at Yogi Bear Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bishop Lake Campgrounds at Brighton State Recreation Area, Brighton, Michigan

Date of Stay: April, 2006 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

This is a typical Michigan DNR campground. Electric only, 20 & 30 amp, with water spiggots (no threads for hoses) here and there and dump station on the way out. Toilet and shower building is new and clean. Grass goes up to lake in the lower campground and a sandy beach is a walk along the lake. Boat launch is available on the lake. Many trails for the kids to explore. We camped at Bishop Lake Campgrounds at Brighton State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.
