Balmorhea State Park, Balmorhea, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Sure beats a rest area on I10 for an overnight stay. We have not stayed here for years, primarily due to the now $7 per person entrance fee, but now armed with that annual pass it was a no brainer. Coming from the east we exited I10 at mm209, then the next day back on the freeway at 192, so it's a loop. Got to pick a site and chose a pull through with a nice ramada and 50 amp service for $17. Super quiet and pleasant to stroll around by the water, see various birds , enjoy a couple of hours reading outside in the sunshine. We certainly appreciated that 50 amps of power the next morning with a low of 28F. Did I mention, better than a noisy rest area !!! We camped at Balmorhea State Park in a Motorhome.

Goliad State Park, Goliad, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We are now fans of the Texas State Park system. In the past we have avoided them because we felt the entrance fee system was unfair. Well it is unless you buy the annual Pass and use it. This was our 3rd 2 night stay in a Texas SP on this trip (we also stayed at other places) and were able to use the electronic coupons for half off the second night. Goliad SP FHU sites were flat, level, well appointed hookups, reasonably quiet and just a short walk to the Mission which was very interesting. We enjoyed the green grass and trees, due to recent rains, also lots and lots of red cardinals flitting around. We camped at Goliad State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the paved trail, or drive, into town and eat at the Hanging Tree restaurant across from the Courthouse. Be prepared to bring back a lot of "leftovers"

Goose Island State Park, Rockport, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Windy, sunny, very windy. Once we realized which was to position our MH (facing front to the bay with the shelter to our right) we really enjoyed our 2 night stay and were able to sit outside enjoying the sun and the waves without being blown away. It was fun to watch the pelicans and herons waiting at the fish cleaning station for a treat. We walked around part of the wooded camping area and were surprised to see that many sites could, and did, accommodate large MHs. I could have enjoyed staying in that area also (no wind) We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Mathis, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Our first stay here and our first time purchasing the Texas annual pass for $70. My husband was skeptical, but we did save money. Our second night was half price ($12.50) because of the pass. We were able to upgrade to a FHU site and although we did not have a view of the lake, it was only a short walk away. Enjoyed walking the trails, saw deer and lots of birds and sitting under our cozy quiet ramada. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lake Corpus Christi State Park in a Motorhome.

Lighthouse Beach RV Park, Port Lavaca, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We had to change plans and needed to stay somewhere on a Sunday afternoon. The lady at the check in kiosk was delightful, that was the highlight of our stay. Looked like most of the spots were taken by "long term" folks and fairly well kept. Our site was really narrow, we could barely put out one slide, and backed in to the beach, therefore looking at the main highway. The beach and walkway out over the marsh was pretty dirty and littered with trash. Cost of our "waterfront" full hookup site was way overpriced at $40 per night. Maybe the long term rates were more reasonable. Personally we would not stay here again. We camped at Lighthouse Beach RV Park in a Motorhome.

Ute Lake State Park, Logan, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Just an overnight stay on our way home to Az, plenty of open sites with views of the lake. We have stayed here several times in the past and it is just a few miles off the main highway and quite convenient. Arriving mid day on a Sunday we noticed a lot of folks not packing up till 3, 4 or even 5pm. Guess they do not, or cannot enforce check out time. As long as there are plenty of nice sites available, I don't have a problem with that. We were surprised to find that we had an excellent wifi signal. We camped at Ute Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Ontonagon Township Park and Campground, Ontonagon, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We called early morning and spoke to the host. He promised to hold a waterfront site for us, if one opened up (we figured we could be there in a couple of hours) We ended up in one of the newer premium sites with a great view of the beach and lake. Plenty of shade, slightly un level, but doable. The older section had much more of a mix of sites, more suited to families and big groups. Overall we were pleased with our location. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Lakehead Boat Basin, Duluth, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

As others have stated, this is a wharf, a marina, with RV hookups. We enjoyed our stay, walked across the Aerial Lift bridge into town several times. The Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center is free and very interesting. We spent several hours there. Many good restaurants in town also. Watching the giant lake carriers come through the canal and under the bridge is really amazing. Parking in the electric sites can be tight, but we left early on a week day morning and got out just fine. We camped at Lakehead Boat Basin in a Motorhome.

Miller Riverview Park, Dubuque, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed our overnight stop here next to the Mississippi River. Fun to watch various boats cruise by, also the white pelicans. Quite a mix of sites. Ours was fine, but some more un level and heavily treed. Nice walking path, about a mile, perfect for an after dinner or morning stroll. Would stay again if passing through this area. We camped at Miller Riverview Park in a Motorhome.

Bob Shetler Campground COE, Johnston, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely sites along the river below the Dam, flat, paved, 50amp electric. Water nearby to fill tank if needed (we didn't) The river was really high and we enjoyed watching folks Bow fishing, which we had never seen before. I would recommend this park. Hall County Park, Grand Island, Nebraska

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We had some difficulty finding the place, even though it is not far off the main road. What is not apparent is that you drive down a narrow one lane road through the day use area, then enter the camping area and it is again one way, but if you want to drive around a second time to look at sites you have to go all the way back to the entrance of the park and start over again. Web site clearly says it is a "no reservation, first come first served park. However when we arrived mid afternoon 4 or 5 sites had red cones in them stating they were occupied. Campground Host was not present at the time so we chose a site that had some shade and a nice grassy sitting area under the trees, and fortunately had 50 amps, since it was really hot. Several hours later a 5th Wheel pulled up at one of the "coned" sites and a fellow moved it aside for them. It become apparent, hearing him talk to the Host, that he had saved 4 desirable sites for his buddies who were arriving later. Somehow that just soured us to the place, even though it is a lovely well taken care of park. We camped at Hall County Park in a Motorhome.

Ellis Lakeside Campground, Ellis, Kansas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We decided to stay here based on reviews from your site, arrived middle of the day on a Friday, looked like about half of the sites were occupied by "long term" campers. Fortunately one was available that had some shade and we could face our RV windshield north and towards the river. (It was very hot, highs near 100F) Hookups are shared side by side, which I had not seen mentioned and could affect which way one's rig would face. we were only able to get a 30amp site, but it was ok. We camped at Ellis Lakeside Campground in a Motorhome.

LeMars Municipal Park - Willow Creek Campground, Le Mars, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

A typical city park, just fine for an overnight stay. Only 30 amp electric and water at sites. Some big shade trees and nice walking paths. A few geese and ducks, not too annoying. We certainly would stop here again if passing through this area. We camped at LeMars Municipal Park - Willow Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Coloma Camperland Campground, Coloma, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here overnight just prior to the 4th of July weekend. I had actually reserved a site months ago, and was told no deposit needed (cash or check only, no credit cards). On check-in we were greeted warmly by the couple who took over the place about a year ago. Our full hookup site was flat and the utilities worked well. Although it is mostly long term residents, everything is kept neat and clean. The laundry was clean also. Pool looked nice but we did not use it. I would definitely stay here again if passing through the area. Oh I forgot to ask for a Good Sam discount, but still feel we got a good value. We camped at Coloma Camperland Campground in a Motorhome.
