Claremore RV Park (formerly American Legion RV Park), Claremore, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has everything your RV needs. i.e., electric, water, and sewer. The sites are super close together and quite unlevel. The entire CG is on the slope of a hill and the campsites tilt from side to side. I phoned the CG a month ahead of time looking for a reservation and the manager said to just come on in, no reservation needed. This gave me the impression there would not be a lot of occupied sites. I was surprised to show up and find very few sites available. The vast majority of the sites appeared to be occupied on a long term basis by workers. There is no security and the CG is completely open to the adjoining highway. However, the area is generally quiet and appears to be safe. In all honesty, when we arrived we drove through the campground and decided to go somewhere else. It was not a good first impression. However, options in Claremore are extremely limited and we chose to stay knowing our stay would be short-term. We camped at Claremore RV Park (formerly American Legion RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Silver Slipper Casino RV Park, Waveland, Mississippi

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

This park and casino are not good values. The park is adequate with water, electric, and sewer, but otherwise it is very basic. For $50/night, I think one can do better. The food in the casino is flat-out bad. How often does one look for steak sauce to give flavor to filet mignon? The $8 cheeseburger I was served on our second evening was over cooked and served with wilted lettuce. Overall, an unsatisfactory experience for us and we will not repeat this visit in the future. We camped at Silver Slipper Casino RV Park in a Motorhome.

Desert's Edge RV Village, Phoenix, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second time spending part of the winter at this park. There are some noticeable changes since the recent change in ownership. At the top of the list is the disappearance of the purple theme. Secondly, the park seemed cleaner than I remember from last year. The staff were out every day tending to various maintenance issues, and it showed. The part of the park we were in was reasonably spacious for a RV park. I loved the fact that I was only 20 minutes from the Peoria sports complex. It's a good park and I'm sure we will return. We camped at Desert's Edge RV Village in a Motorhome.

Happy Together RV Resort, Mohave Valley, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We had a good experience here. I had driven through this park a few years ago before the ownership change and the difference between now and then is stark. Aside from being a gracious and friendly host, the owner has put a lot of effort and money into the park, and it shows. You can tell it is a work in progress, and I like the direction it is headed. Our site was near a wifi repeater, and probably because of that, we had the best wifi service we've ever experienced at a RV park. The sites are laid out in such a manner that you feel as though there is a lot of space between neighbors on the patio side of your rig. Come to think of it, the sites are laid out as buddy sites, but they are staggered so that you don't really notice, unlike another park we recently stayed at. It's true that the driver's side shares a utility island with your neighbor, but that was never an issue for us. We stayed here for only four nights, but would not have minded staying longer. We camped at Happy Together RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Laughlin / Avi Casino KOA, Laughlin, Nevada

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for two weeks, with the end of the period occurring just before a holiday weekend. For most of the time, it was relatively serene and quiet. As the holiday weekend approached, it became more of a family park with all that goes with that. It can be a bit dusty with the gravel surface and wind, but that's hard to escape in the area. I didn't care for the buddy site layout, but it works for others. It seemed to me the staff attempted to not double load the buddy sites unless absolutely necessary, and this created a good deal of space between rigs. For the two weeks we were there, we had a "buddy" for only 30% of the time. The staff seemed motivated and friendly. I think it's a fair value and would return here again. We camped at Laughlin / Avi Casino KOA in a Motorhome.

Holiday Trav-L-Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $89.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second visit to this park, and our first staying in one of the super sites. We traveled to Va Bch for the weekend specifically to take in a concert. The super sites are quite an upgrade from the rest of the park and we were pleased with that. There is decent spacing between the sites, and the robust fire ring is a good amenity. There is a bit of foliage in this area that may or may not impede your ability to lock onto satellites depending on the site assigned. The cable service is really good; well over 100 channels. Since it is a beach town, the CG is a very busy, bustling place chocked full of families. We saw lots of happy people at this campground. The CG is immediately adjacent to the Oceana Naval Air Station, and directly under the flight path. Enjoy the sounds of freedom. We did! We camped at Holiday Trav-L-Park in a Motorhome.

Sam's Town RV Park , Robinsonville, Mississippi

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We showed up without a reservation, but had no problem getting a site. They want you to park your rig at the park and use their house phone to dial the hotel's front desk. Without a reservation, I had to first go to the hotel front desk, then they assigned me a site. I think that may work a little differently if I had a reservation. At any rate, they sent a security person over to pick me up and drive me to the hotel, and that person hung around until I was checked in and drove me back to my rig. Very nice! The park itself is very adequate and I think $20 is a very fair price. We stayed two nights and enjoyed ourselves at the casino. We will definitely go back when the opportunity avails itself. We camped at Sam's Town RV Park in a Motorhome.

Desert's Edge RV Village, Phoenix, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

I have really mixed feelings about this park. Parts of it are fairly nice, and other parts look like a trailer park. We were in the most expensive section which grew on me after a while. It is an all ages, all RV types park. The sites are fairly close together; closer than I'd like. Like most parks, the internet service is laughable. I liked the location of the park in that it is in the northern part of Phoenix with easy access to spring training camps. The staff was a high point. Good, friendly people who care about their work. We did not use many of the amenities such as the pool, spa, clubhouse, and laundry. It seemed that everyone had at least one dog with them, and I was put off by the amount of animal waste I encountered while walking about the park. Some people just weren't raised right. We will likely return to Phoenix next year, and I suspect we may end up back here, as we toured a couple of the neighboring mega parks that are 55+ (but appeared to be 155+) and did not find them to be to our liking. We camped at Desert's Edge RV Village in a Motorhome.

Colorado River Oasis RV Park (formerly El Rio Waterfront RV Resort), Bullhead City, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice little park with great access to the Colorado River. It is a mixture of RV sites, a few park models, and kitchenettes; something for everyone. It is run by a married couple who really keep up after it. It is nearly spotless. The facilities we availed ourselves of were in excellent condition. My only complaint is about the spacing between sites. Your neighbor's sewer connection is very close to your picnic bench. We would return here. We camped at Colorado River Oasis RV Park (formerly El Rio Waterfront RV Resort) in a Motorhome.

Hearthside Grove Motorcoach Resort, Petoskey, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

Absolutely beautiful resort. We were in Phase 5, which is more like a residential neighborhood than an RV resort, per se. The bunkhouses in this part of the resort appear to be 1000 sqft or more, and the lots they sit on are exceptionally spacious. The main clubhouse is the best we've ever encountered. In our experience, this is a unique venue. Frankly, it is over the top in terms of luxury. With that as the background, there were a couple of things we found odd and out of place. At the top of the list would be the fact that you have to transport your trash and garbage to dumpsters located behind the clubhouse. This is the only top tier resort we have found that in. Secondly, the original clubhouse situated near the entrance is the location of the pool and spa. The pool is smallish, and the spa was warm, not hot. Other than that, there isn't much to gripe about here. We camped at Hearthside Grove Motorcoach Resort in a Motorhome.

Holiday Trav-L-Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

This RV Park is a tale of two cities. The older section, which is the vast majority of the park, appears to have been designed several years if not decades ago. The sites are grass/sand, and I consider them adequate, although I did find the water pressure to be lacking (45 psi). The newer section containing the super sites had a totally different feel to it, and if we ever return to this park, this section is the only one we will accept. We were there over a holiday weekend and the place was packed. Being a beach town, the park is a hive of activity with people running around everywhere, from sun-up to the onset of quiet hours at 2300. If you need to be around a lot of people, outdoor entertainment systems, and golf carts, this is the place. We camped at Holiday Trav-L-Park in a Motorhome.

New Green Acres RV Park , Walterboro, South Carolina

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

I reviewed this CG once before when I didn't have quite as much RV experience. Knowing what I know now, I rated the CG way too high then. We have stopped at this CG at least four times in the past 5 years going to and from FL. This year's stop will be our last. The CG seems to be deteriorating with each passing year. This year's stop came after a period of heavy rain, and while that is not the CG's fault, the lack of hard surface roads within the CG is. The mud nearly prevented us from exiting our site. My wheels began to spin and I had visions of tow trucks dancing in my head. The whole CG was sloppy wet with standing water, deep ruts, and mud holes nearly everywhere. I used the bath house and was not impressed. It's old, tired, and in need of some serious rehab (this applies to the whole CG in my opinion). I did note a new-ish 50 amp "pedestal" at our site, but the very poorly labeled breaker switch is on a breaker panel that serves several other sites. The breakers in the panel were labeled by someone scribbling with an indelible marker, and there are numerous strike-thrus, making it difficult to read. I inadvertently turned off a neighbor's electricity due to the way the panel was labeled. The 30 amp pedestal is rusted and looks like it has been there for decades. At least the analog cable system is no longer just laying on the ground which is an improvement. Given other options in the area including at least one big box store, we decided this was going to be our final stop at this CG. We camped at New Green Acres RV Park in a Motorhome.

Silver Palms RV Resort, Okeechobee, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $95.00
Overall Rating:

This resort is very nice, but the surrounding area of Okeechobee is not what we are looking for in terms of a place to return to year after year. We liked the clubhouse, pool, and spa. We found the residents to be active and very friendly. The activities director does a good job of keeping a full plate of activities available to enjoy. We stayed in a newly opened section of the resort, so the grass-covered sites were open to the sun, basic, and adequate. Lots of potential here for the right site owners. If you are a walker, there is plenty of roadway to be walked in this resort. We camped at Silver Palms RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Motorcoach Resort St. Lucie West, Port Saint Lucie, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $86.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely place. Found the people very friendly and welcoming. Nice clubhouse, but needs to expand in order to be considered world-class. Would prefer spa and pool hours to extend beyond dusk. It's hard to beat the location of this resort, with virtually anything you would want or need within a 10-15 minute drive.
