Scusset Beach State Reservation, Sagamore, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice state park, perfect for staying to visit Cape Cod. Be careful in choosing your spot. We have a 40' fifth wheel and with a tree right next to the entrance to our spot, trees and a slight downhill slope opposite our site, backing in to our spot was a real challenge. Electric is close by, but is a shared pedestal for water, shared by four sites. You will need at least two hoses to get to your camper so be prepared. I rated service as 'bad' because we were not able to check in until the last day. Office hours to do so were ignored as it was closed during posted hours. Then the guy acted like we were bothering him. We camped at Scusset Beach State Reservation in a Fifth Wheel.

Timberland Acres RV Park, Trenton, Maine

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The front of this park is wooded and filled with permanent residents. We stayed at the back of this park which was fine with us. Those spots were open and long, some of them really long. Services were well placed and worked well. We used the laundry facilities which were ample and clean. The road coming to the back is not the smoothest so drive slowly. We camped at Timberland Acres RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Basin RV Park, Belton, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very new park having just opened earlier in 2019 so some of the grass and trees are early growth. But this campground was done right with paved streets and a really nice office and rec area. It is a gated park with a mix of full time residents and an ample number of temporary sites. Sites are gravel with conveniently place hook-ups. Spaces are not long enough for both your vehicle and camper, but there is a spot next to your camper just for your tow vehicle. If this were in an area with a greater selection of campgrounds and RV resorts this might be rated an '8' but for this area it is a '9'. We camped at Basin RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Ponca City RV Park, Ponca City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

First, make note that this is not just off of Interstate 35 - it is about 10 miles off of Interstate 35. Be that as it may, it was a nice campground, not big, but with paved sites. A little weird set up in that you pull in one entrance, park and walk a short distance to the other side of the park to register. Not much over the air television, but okay Internet. This was another one of those parks who I swear was designed by someone who has never camped as it has the 'in-the-ground' water hook-ups. You have to kneel down, take the cover off and connect to the water spigot. I had to fight off two little toads that lived in that space and might scare the begeebers out of you if your not expecting something to move when you are reaching to connect your hose. We camped at Ponca City RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Clear Lake State Park, Clear Lake, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

The town of Clear Lake is pretty cool. This campground was kind of disappointing. Sites are gravel, but only the width of a camper. That means your 'patio' area is grass and in our case, dead grass because of a long term carpet there before us. Electricity is shared with your neighbor which meant that ours was on the opposite site it usually is - it was on the passenger side. Our electric cable plugs in the back but if you have a connection near the front on the drivers side you may have problems. The sites were not level. No water and only two dump stations - at which you also get water. Bottom line is that there was a line coming and going. The rangers let people park all over which made it difficult for some to get through the park or to swing wide enough to get in to their site. I gave this a 6 as average and I was being generous. We camped at Clear Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Canyon Railway RV Park, Williams, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This was a nice park adjacent to, or a part of, the railway that takes you to the Grand Canyon if you want to take advantage of it. We had a pull-thru with full hookups and found everything good. For you who complain about WiFi, the WiFi here was great. There is a laundry facility and shuttle service to take you to other places in the park - the train depot, hotel or restaurant. Williams was a fun area as well with - here's a shocker - Route 66 going right down the main street. Its worth a visit. We camped at Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We took the train to the Grand Canyon. It is 2 1/2 hours one-way, with 3 hours at the top. It cost us around $60 per person but was worth it for us.

WillowWind RV Park, Hurricane, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We really liked this campground. While I wouldn't call the sites spacious, they were big enough with actual grass, not rock, between them. One area has lots of trees and another area is more satellite friendly. The staff was nice to us so not complaints in that regard. There are quite a few full time/ long term residents who were very friendly. We could see spending a few weeks here ourselves. We camped at WillowWind RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a Bar-B-Q joint on the main strip - I think it is called Lonnie Boys - that was excellent. We ate in for lunch one time and then got some 'bulk' turkey (on Thursdays) to take back to the camper.

Portal RV Resort and Campground, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice campground. Sites are not spacious by any means, or private, and Jeeps and ATVs abound, but it seemed to be one of the nicest campgrounds in the area. The facilities, restrooms, laundry and pool areas all seemed to be top-notch. It is a nice park, but yes a little pricey. If we were to ever go back to the Moab area we would definitely stay again. We camped at Portal RV Resort and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Cherry Creek State Park, Aurora, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground with spacious sites although not very private. Easy to get around, we had a pull thru with full hookups. Convenient to things to do in Denver as it is in the middle of the southern part of the City. If you are doing a lot of things north of Denver, not so convenient. Have to agree with a comment by a previous reviewer; was not aware that we were going to have to pay an additional $10 per day park fee to get in and out of the park. Not a big deal but was not aware. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Blaze-in-Saddle RV Park (formerly Empty Saddle RV Park), Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is what it is. It is a place to spend the night for a really affordable rate. It has full hookups and we had a pull through. Water pressure is high - you will need a regulator. It is clay/red dirt but not too dusty. We were able to stay connected for a quick get away the next day. I am not sure what the rate was - it was in the $22-24 range - less a veteran's discount. But somehow $29 was charged to my card so that concerns me a little... but my fault for not paying attention. So here is the take away - pay attention to what you are paying for or being billed. I think that the guy checking us in screwed up and I didn't catch it. As far as WiFi, forget it. The guy at the front, the same one who screwed up my billing, tried to give me log in instructions which were clear as mud. The simple version of what he was trying to tell me appeared eventually as an available network but we could not log on. The bottom line is that this is a good place to spend the night with a Flying J in close proximity, but don't expect much, and double check the rates and what you are being billed. We filled up and went to the campground with a full tank so we got a good start the next morning. Easy to find and easy to get to. We camped at Blaze-in-Saddle RV Park (formerly Empty Saddle RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is not easy to get to (without going thru some heavy traffic areas) but is convenient once you are there. The site we were in was kind of a tight fit to get in to as the post/site marker directly across from our site was placed in the way, but we made it. Sites are well spaced, but would not call the one we were in 'spacious.' All in all, it was a good home base to see New Orleans. The staff was really friendly and very helpful. I am giving this an 8 and not a 7 simply because of its location and convenience to NOLA activities. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

As others have mentioned a good way to visit the French Quarter is via the Algiers Ferry. It is $2 per person cash. $1 per if 65 or older. Parking is not great though so be prepared to find a spot on a side street. There may be a parking lot, but we did not see it. Ask the campground staff - they are very helpful.

Davis Bayou Campground, Ocean Springs, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

The park itself is really nice with lots to do and lots of nature to be found. The campground itself was okay at best. While there were quite a few bigger rigs (ours is a 41' 5th wheel) it wasn't all that easy to maneuver thru the campground and back in. Once you pull out you have to go back in to toward the campsites to get to the dump site. As long as you are in a spot you can get in to its a fine campground. On a side note, the directions on the web site were confusing and it says to check in at the visitors center... which when we did they said that was not the case. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Gulf State Park Campground, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This State park has everything you need; with close-by Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley to fill in for everything else. There are biking/hiking trails all over the park, laundry facilities, a convenience store, pool and a golf course. We had a full hook up site that backed up to a lake within the park. Our site was spacious. For the price and location, this was an excellent value. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Hinton RV Park, Sikeston, Missouri

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is not a destination campground but is an excellent place to spend the night if traveling up or down I-55. Easy access on and off the Interstate, with full hook ups, cable TV and the best Wifi we have ever had in a campground. All hook-ups were together and convenient. The staff is friendly and there is a gas station with diesel right next door. For what this is, a good place to spend the night after a long travel day, I have to give this an 8. Conveniently located off I-35 it was a great place to spend the night. We had a pull-thru site that was level enough that we did not even need to unhook for the night. Full hook ups, nice sites. Not really a destination campground for us, but a great place to spend the night. A little pricey, but nice facilities. We will stay here again if we find ourselves back in the area.
