Sugar Mill Ruins Travel Park, New Smyrna Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Large shady park with many residents. Road are sandy. There can be some large puddles after a rain. Place seemed very well kept and quiet. The pool is in the shape of the state of Florida. We were only there for one night. We had planned on staying at Gold Rock, but when we saw the site they were giving us (unlevel with tree roots and the neighboring sites had overflowed into this site, making our space very small), we decided to pay a little more and stay at the Sugar Mill Ruins. I did not like that you had to pay a $25 key deposit as we had to wait until the office opened to get it back. Laundry facilities were under cover but open - not in a closed building. They also have some rental cabins for those that don't have an RV. We camped at Sugar Mill Ruins Travel Park in a Motorhome.

Jetty Park Campground, Cape Canaveral, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Great oceanfront campground. Best thing about Jetty Park is the ocean is right outside the campground, along with fishing pier, snack bar, and you can watch ships leave the port. Roads and sites are sandy, although some sites have a concrete pad. There are quite a few shade trees especially the loops closest to the water. The loop near the east side bathhouse is full sun. You have to check each site on the website, as the sites are irregular. Some sites flooded after a thunderstorm, but drained overnight. Although the campground was full, there was never a line at the showers. Bathhouse is old, but clean and kept up. Power (amps) at the sites varies. They do sell power adapters at the store - at a premium of course. Sites are pretty close together - lack privacy - typical beach campground. Neighbors tend to overflow into your site with their gear. Our site did not have a picnic table or else the neighbor moved it to their site. Campground is secured by gate codes at the walkways. Walk the beach, watch the cruise ships leave. We camped at Jetty Park Campground in a Motorhome.

McKinney Campground COE, Acworth, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Well kept COE campground. Forested so most sites are shady. Hilly, so not all sites are level. Some offer more privacy and space than others. Hard to tell from the reservation website. The bathhouse may be centrally located but it is often a long walk uphill or you need to drive. The bathhouse lights are on a motion sensor. I had an issue with one shower, so I moved to the other; therefore, I was probably in the longer than the sensor allowed. All of a sudden the lights went out and it was so dark I couldn't see anything. Had to find my way out into the open area to reactivate the sensor. It was still daylight outside, so had they not covered the windows or had a skylight it would not have been so pitch dark inside. There are beaches and boat launch areas. Many parked their boats adjacent to their site. Can get very noisy and busy on weekends. We camped at McKinney Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Florence Marina State Park, Omaha, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Best place to camp if you are going to Providence Canyon. Large pull thru sites, under tall pines that give some shade at times. A few sites are paved. Open - no privacy. As another reviewer mentioned, the fire pits are too close to the adjacent site, can be a fire hazard or damage a camper. The outside of the bathhouse is misleading in that you think that the bathrooms are newer. They are clean but old with the showers across from the toilet stalls. Very ADA compliant. There is a nice spacious laundry room, machines reasonable priced. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Motorhome.

Cloudland Canyon State Park, Rising Fawn, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

One of my favorite state parks. The trails are awesome and some challenging - 600 steps to the waterfalls, but not all in a row. As stated before, the East Rim campground (site 49 and above) is more open, most sites are level and big rig friendly. #55 is my favorite as it is partially shaded all day and has a "porch". Sites 56 & 57 are also have porches but sunnier. The bathhouse in the east rim should be razed. It is a disgrace to the Georgia Parks system. Stall are extremely small - not ADA compliant. The park host hoses it down so it wasn't dirty, just old and falling apart. They put a new restroom in the day use area, but no improvements in the campground. The West Rim (sites 1-48) is very forested, therefore much shadier and hilly. Some sites are not level. Some sites might be tricky for large rigs. Sites 33 & 37 are nice, #9 has a porch. There is an ADA compliant restroom in this loop. The bathhouse is old but not as bad as the one in the east rim. There is access to the rim trail and parking for it near the restroom. Sites vary, so do your best to check them out before booking. Join Friends of Georgia State Parks - membership includes state park pass and free camping nights. We camped at Cloudland Canyon State Park in a Motorhome.

John Prince Park Campground, Lake Worth, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

It is a very nice large park with recreation facilities. The campground has over 300 sites, so there is a good chance of finding a vacancy without a reservation, except maybe during prime season. The sites are a good size, but mostly open & in full sun. Only a few sites have shade. For short term site 43 had shade. The areas are divided into 14 day limit, long term, sewer or no sewer. The short term with no sewer is considered waterfront, although our site was not on the water, but within walking distance. I didn't feel we should be charged the waterfront rate. The reason for the poor rating is the condition of the bathrooms. The one closest to the no sewer 14 day limit area is the worst, and these are the campers that would use it most. It is not ADA compliant, you can hardly close the door to the stall. No garbage can so people were throwing trash on the floor, and it was not picked up over the weekend. For the price charged, the County needs to build a modern bathhouse. Majority of the sites, are long term and filled with Class A RVs. Central fire pits instead of one at each campsite. IMO, a good idea. There are 2 major entrances. Congress Ave is closest to the campground, but the GPS took is in the main park entrance which is a long windy road to the campground. We camped at John Prince Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Moss Park, Orlando, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice (Orange County) campground. Most sites are very spacious and partially shaded by the tall pines. Sites 26, 28, 29 & 31 are fairly shady as are some of the other sites along the edge. The lake is to the rear of some sites but it is not readily accessible. Some sites are set back far enough that they are very private. Sites in the center loop are more open. Large, modern bathhouse with several concrete walkways to it. The sites as well as the road into the campground are hard packed sand. Once you left the day use area, the hard packed road was full of ruts and mud holes. The Class A's and the "Tiny House" must have driven in very slow and carefully. Day use area has several pavilion, playground, boat ramps and fishing areas. Lots of bird life including several sandhill cranes and their babies. We camped at Moss Park in a Motorhome.

Little Talbot State Park, Jacksonville, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Typical beach type campground, in the sandy scrubs. Sites are separated by vegetation, but you can still see your fellow campers at most sites. Site 40 is fairly large and more secluded than most of the others. The ocean is across the road. Depending on the time of year and the wind, be prepared for no-see-ums and mosquitoes (we did not have any issues in May). Bathhouse, while not new, was satisfactory. Nice short trail, worth taking, in the campground. Fishing area on the river adjacent to the campground. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Motorhome.

Seneca Shadows Campground USFS, Seneca Rocks, West Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Only Loop C has (13) electric hook-ups, there is no water so you must fill up before you enter. Campsites are paved but most are sloped. Site 36 seemed level. There is 1 shower in each- you have to hold the button down for water, very inconvenient, and it takes a long time for hot water. There is a cold draft that comes in from the vents. Campground hosts were very friendly. You can not see Seneca Rocks from Loop C but you can from the walk-in loop. There are also some pit toilets in the loops, but regular flush in the main bathhouses. The regular rate is $30 for a single site with electric. We camped at Seneca Shadows Campground USFS in a Motorhome.

Blackwater Falls State Park, Davis, West Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

The electric loop is an open circle with restroom in the grassy center. Trees surround the perimeter but do not afford shade to the sites. The sites are nicely spaced apart, but of course, you can just about see the whole campground from your site. The bathhouse is old, stalls very small and IMO does not meet ADA requirements. They were working on the bathhouse so there was paint chips on the rusted shower drain, sink drains were clogged too. IMO, a new modern bathroom house needs to be built, this one is beyond repair. The centralized water faucets had not been turned on yet. Campers that had been there before, had long hoses to attach to the bathroom faucet to fill up their rigs. Blackwater Falls is beautiful. Well maintained stairs to close up view of the falls. We also enjoyed Balanced Rock trail. The lodge is very nice too. It's worth staying at the campground, to spend some time at the falls. We camped at Blackwater Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Long Point Park Campground (Brevard County Park), Melbourne Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Large campground, waterfront sites are smaller than the ones in the center. It was very windy so we did not have an issues with no-seeums or mosquitoes. We did not see many campers outside, maybe due to the wind. Lots of Class A RVs in campground. There are lots of small trees but not large enough to shade the sites, in most cases. Newer restrooms are across from the bridge to Scout Island. Showers are OK in the older bathhouse (6 on women's side), but the restroom is very run down. Lots of birds around including Wood Storks. We camped at Long Point Park Campground (Brevard County Park) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Make reservations - fills up on weekends where 2 nights minimum for reservation. Publix groceries & deli 10 miles to the north on AIA. If you don't want to drive to ocean, bring a bicycle as the entry road is long. Several beach parks along AIA with free parking. Erna Nixon Park in Melbourne has a nice boardwalk for a walk in the woods.

T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park, Port St. Joe, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We chose the Gulf Breeze section since it is closer to the gulf. There are some partially shaded sites. The sandy sites are irregular and fairly close. Our site was listed as pull thru - it was at the end of the road. If no one was on the site, you could drive thru to the main loop. There are a few paved sites across from the older bathhouse. As stated previously, there is a newer bathhouse that is much nicer. There is also an outdoor shower for rinsing after the beach. We camped at T.H. O'Leno State Park, High Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

The campground loop roads need much improvement - sandy and full of pot holes. Sites are sandy and most have a little wood fence around them. Most sites are large and shaded with trees and shrubs between the sites. The Magnolia Loop is the nicer of the two. The bathhouse is newer - roomy, clean showers, well maintained. Magnolia is also closer to the river and activities. Many sites in the Dogwood loop are not level. River Sink trail is a nice walk. Very interesting how the river goes underground for miles. Some mosquitoes but not too bad. I would give it a higher rating if the campground road was in better shape. We camped at O'Leno State Park in a Motorhome.

DeSoto State Park, Fort Payne, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice, clean, large campground with mostly partial shaded sites with gravel pads; although some sites are asphalt. There is a pull thru section but sites are closer together and more open. The modern clean bathhouses are in the center of the loops with dirt paths leading from the campsites. My only complaint was there was no paved pathways and it is hard to navigate the long dirt, tree rooted path in the dark. To drive to bathhouse you have to go behind the RV dump. I agree rate is on high side as you have to add a 3% resort fee + $4 convenience fee to reservation. Azalea Boardwalk is worth taking. Desoto Falls & Howard's Chapel are worth visiting, both outside the park boundary. We camped at DeSoto State Park in a Motorhome.

Cloudland Canyon State Park, Rising Fawn, Georgia

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We chose the East Rim as it is close to the canyon/waterfall trails and overlooks. Most of the sites are good size, gravel pads, nice picnic table, some are shaded. Some sites have terraces with woods behind. We really liked Site 55. The East Rim sites are more open and you can see your neighbors. The restroom is clean but very outdated and (showers especially) were very small - not ADA compliant. You have to go to the West rim for ADA facilities. West Rim sites are shadier and more spacious.
The trail down to the waterfalls is definitely worth doing (even though there are 600 steps total, they are spaced far enough apart, that coming back up wasn't bad at all. Not much around so have all your supplies before going into park, although there is a gas station, cafe and little shop not far from entrance.
