Durango RV Resort, Red Bluff, California

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

We tried Durango going south as our usual RV park was full. We stayed there again going north and will use it as our preferred park in this area. Everything was clean, neat and up to date. Staff were friendly and efficient. We were not far from the I5 (easy to access), but noise was not a problem. This is generally a place for transients, rates reflect the quality, and there were no dilapidated rigs. It was well laid out and there was plenty of room to get in and at the sites. We camped at Durango RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Pechanga RV Resort & Casino, Temecula, California

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Great place to stay. Easy to get to, spacious, well-run, well-kept and quiet. Have a reservation as they are busy. There are no long term types, the casino is the focus and people are generally in and out. We will be back as it easily the best option in the area. Staff were cheerful, helpful and efficient. Look at the site map while booking as you may not want the buddy sites if you are traveling alone, especially without kids. We camped at Pechanga RV Resort & Casino in a Motorhome.

You are in wine country. Go to the information office in Old Town and get the tour book and hence $ off on tastings. The wineries/wines vary greatly. Visit a number.

San Diego Metro KOA, Chula Vista, California

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

This is a typical KOA, set up for families. We found it too busy, with constant noise and children on the move, especially on weekends. There were scooters, bikes, etc everywhere - they even rent them there. Typically, many parents ignore their children whilst drinking/relaxing and these children necessitated very cautious driving within the park. The park itself is reasonably well kept in part, but had older and below standard sections. Our complaint of low voltage issues elicited the response that surge protectors were the problem, but no repair. On the other side, the office staff were excellent. Having never been there before, we booked through a call center. They clearly had no idea of the parks physical layout beyond a site map. We were put in a site much too small and then had to move three times in the two weeks we were there to stay in suitable sites. The on-site office staff did their best to make us happy. However, in all this is a great place for children, big new pool, etc. There are no amenities, beyond a limited and expensive open air cafe, for older adults. Comments re our site (stayed in three) are regarding the worst one. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Motorhome.

Bakersfield River Run RV Park, Bakersfield, California

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

First time here and it was a good spot for a short layover after a week on the road. You go through a seemingly run down industrial area for a couple of blocks to get there, but the park is well kept. You can also walk to Costco by an alternate and nicer route. While not far from the highways, we found the noise not intrusive and there were not the trains that thunder past the parks close to CA 58. The staff were friendly and efficient. While there seemed to be some long term sites, standards of neatness had not slipped. Sites varied in set up, with pull through sites being nose to tail of the one next to it, a bit close. We camped at Bakersfield River Run RV Park in a Motorhome.

Crystal Cove Resort and RV Park, Tofino, British Columbia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

The park would have been a reasonable value at half the price. It has a nice office area and the rental cabins nearer the ocean are OK. The sites are narrow, irregular (some) and basic. I had to shoehorn my motor home in and then fiddle about to get enough clearance for the slides. The services were behind me, of poor quality and I needed a sewer hose extension. WiFi worked well, but there was no cable. However, the RV park standard for the whole area is poor and this was the best of a bad lot. My last trip there. We camped at Crystal Cove Resort and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Tofino has a nice beach, but not much else if you have already seen whales. The entire area is over priced and the road in is terrible (except in the national park). Expect to cringe on some of the corners and hills, especially with a Class A. If you can do without hookups, stay in the park. Take whatever RV supplies you need with you.

Overall Rating:

This is a small RV park just off a secondary road and part of a casino complex. It was great for a one night layover and easily accessed. The park was quiet and clean. We stayed there in both January and March, going to California and back home. We will be back. We camped at Little Creek Casino and Resort in a Motorhome.

French Camp RV Park Resort & Golf Course, Manteca, California

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Did use the laundry facilities and found them expensive, old and dirty. Not well maintained at all. In fact buildings old and have not seen any maintenance in sometime. Wifi was limited to office a quarter mile away and at the pool. We were parked fifty yards across from pool and could not get wifi. General impression of park very poor and not at all maintained. It was advertised online as highly rated by Woodalls. This is one reason why we made a reservation here. I cannot imagine that Woodalls would rate this park with that high a rating. We will not return. We camped at French Camp RV Park Resort & Golf Course in a Motorhome.

San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA, Petaluma, California

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Arrived for one night, after dark, in the driving rain. Reception was friendly and quick, but due to the poor lighting, complex layout and close quarters I had to make an extra loop to locate our site. A guide would have been very helpful. The site was a pull through but on a hillside and muddy off the pad area. In general, adequate but nothing special. The park overall was nothing special, but had a number of family oriented facilities. We would stay there again, but only as a matter of convenience when passing through. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Portside RV Park, Brookings, Oregon

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived without a reservation and got one of the few remaining sites, for one night when passing through. Staff were friendly and helpful and we were escorted to our site. We were assigned a spacious pull through site, well away from the road. The park was mostly seasonal sites, with a number of new park models. It was small, but well laid out, well kept and very quiet. One is across the street from restaurants, hotels and fishing charter businesses. In addition, the downtown area of Brookings is a reasonable walk. This park is an excellent choice as a base for local tourism or when passing through. It does not have amenities for children and the dog walking area encourages one to leave the property as there is little space and no grass. We will stay here again and make it a multi day stay. We camped at Portside RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pacific Border RV Park, Surrey, British Columbia

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed one night before crossing the border. Everything went well and the staff was friendly and helpful. One concern, not caused by the park, was addressed immediately and effectively. The park was mostly filled with seasonal rigs, but they were well maintained and sites were clean and neat. Will return. We camped at Pacific Border RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

An excellent spot to stay before crossing the border going south. You are literally a minute from the border. Be careful when approaching the rv park as you must turn right just before you are committed to crossing and then turn left quickly, but without taking a wrong road also leading to the crossing.

Claybanks RV Park, Merritt, British Columbia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is a municipal park with Merritt's town limits run by a contractor. The person I dealt with was excellent - friendly, helpful and accommodating. The park was an oasis of green in a burnt landscape and was clean and well maintained. We were able to get shade on a hot day and had a quiet, spacious site. The rv park is fairly basic, but it was clear that upgrades are ongoing. While Merritt is not a tourist town, downtown was a short walk. It is an excellent value and I would return again. The only real negative was the noise from a nearby mill, loud and continuous. We camped at Claybanks RV Park in a Motorhome.

Apple Valley Orchard RV Park, Kelowna, British Columbia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

This park was one of a few, and the most expensive, of small parks located on farms in the Kelowna area. It was essentially a $30.00 a night park located in an inflated market. There was a two night charge cancellation policy, again reflective of a heated market. On arrival, there was a sign listing names and assigned sites, but nobody in the office. The first row of sites were dusty, narrow and short. Our site was up a small hill, paved and more spacious. Landscaping was basic and you were essentially parked at the edge of open fields. It was not an attractive area. However, despite being paved, our assigned site was so far off level (both back to front and side to side) that even with all our blocks our motor home could not be leveled on the stabilizers with the rear wheels sufficiently grounded (ie. unsafe). I was able to contact the owners on their cell and they did not have another site to offer me. We left and will never return. This place may be OK for some rigs, but do not expect it. If you do stay here, insist on a level site. Rigs that can be lowered in front may be OK in the site we had, but bring lots of blocks for the back - and wheel chocks. We camped at Apple Valley Orchard RV Park in a Motorhome.

Holiday Park Resort, Kelowna, British Columbia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This park is mostly owned and permanent sites. Having stayed here before, it seems noticeably older but still well enough maintained. The staff were excellent and most helpful. The residents were reserved and the park was clean and quiet. Some interior roads were a bit narrow for a motor home, but our site was easily accessed. This park was expensive in comparison to other local parks, but a significantly better value regarding quality and facilities. Will return again. We camped at Holiday Park Resort in a Motorhome.

ViewPoint RV Park & Cottages, Salmon Arm, British Columbia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small but well run rv park. The owners are a pleasure to deal with and most helpful. Most sites would be a tight fit for larger rigs, but we were able to get a larger site with easy access. Facilities were basic as regards activities on site, but the state of cleanliness of the washrooms and laundry was most impressive. This area gets winter and has a long closed season, so the park is gravel, grass and lacks elaborate shrubbery. However, it is clean and well tended. The highway and train noise can be intrusive, even to the point of feeling vibration at times. However, I did not find it a problem personally and it was quieter at night. In addition, the other guests were a quiet bunch and I suspect the party crowd (a resort area) goes elsewhere. We were pleased enough to return here after one night away and will return again. We camped at ViewPoint RV Park & Cottages in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are two entrances to this rv park. You leave the main road and climb a short grade to the check in. My GPS insisted on the wrong side of the road, ignore it. Most important, use the western entrance as the other is not suitable for rvs, either motorized or towed.

Cottonwood Meadows RV Country Club, Chilliwack, British Columbia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was efficient and we were given our choice of site. Most of the park is permanent/seasonal, but the transient area is separate, easily accessible and a bit more spacious. The sites are separated by hedging and shielded from the nearby highway by trees. The maintenance level of grass and shrubbery was basic, but acceptable. Nothing fancy, but a good choice if passing through (close to main highway) or visiting the area. Will stay there again. We camped at Cottonwood Meadows RV Country Club in a Motorhome.
