Badgerland Campground, Stoughton, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

We were cordially greeted upon arrival and guided to our site which was good for finding our way the first time. Temps were 87 degrees when we arrived and after setting up and turning on our dual AC, we lost all power. The owner was right on it and quickly found our section's main breaker had blown which concerned him because it was all new wiring and service. We decided to run just one A/C after that and didn't experience another outage. Access roads are gravel and a little narrow for larger back-ins but there is a generous amount of space between sites to help with maneuvering. Our pull thru site was easy to enter and exit, gravel and sloping upward as you entered. Patio is grass and they request no carpeting other than on the gravel which basically ruled out any carpeting. There is a mature tree between nearly every site so your rig isn't beat by the sun all day long. This can make satellite signals a little more challenging to find though. Water pressure was good at 40psi. There is a notice at the spigot informing you that the water tests high for nitrates and that pregnant women and the young should not drink it at all. While short term use of the water for drinking is reportedly not a problem, their advisory recommended using bottled water. Wifi is available for a fee. Our AT&T hotspot (and cell phones) picked up a couple bars of service so we used it instead. OTA TV reception was very good with all the major channels received out of Madison. There is a swimming pond with a sand beach and floating island for the kids. There is also a catch and release fishing pond that you can try your hand at. The park is very nicely maintained and the owners are very conscientious about that. Given that the nightly rate is comparable to many parks with full E/W/S though, we rate the park slightly lower because of the lack of a sewer port at the site and the water quality issue. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and would come back again. We camped at Badgerland Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Sunny's Campground, Wauseon, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

With around 800 sites this is one of the largest parks we have stayed at in the northern climates. It appears the campground caters primarily to a seasonal crowd but there are quite a few sites available for transients. There's a number of ponds designed into the layout that are a focal point for many water based activities so you can imagine it is a mecca for families. Check-in was very efficient and we were warmly greeted. Our assigned site was a pull thru on the outer perimeter of the campground. The site was all grass, reasonably level, firm and serviced with water and electric only. Spacing was close but adequate and there weren't any trees to interfere with satellite. There hadn't been any rain for a while so the ground was in good shape. Water pressure was around 30psi and 50a power was good. As noted by others, they have a plethora of additional charges if you want wifi, a/c, etc. We received just enough service to use our AT&T hotspot but our AT&T cellular reception was non-existent. OTA TV reception was decent. Access roads are sufficiently wide for even the big rigs. They are all gravel which makes it a bit dusty when the happy hour golf cart parade began. At one time we counted a caravan of eight cruising along at 10+mph. Fortunately, golf cart use must cease at 8pm. Located 10 miles North of I80, it's a bit of a trek to the park but the area is quiet and not difficult to get to. We would come back again. We camped at Sunny's Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Old Chatham Road RV Campground, South Dennis, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $72.00
Overall Rating:

This park wouldn't have been our first choice campground based on prior reviews, but after staying here for a week our opinion has changed. We were cordially welcomed and assigned a spacious site near the pool area. The site pad was a bit soft though and I had to use 4WD to push the rig into place. It was also a close fit between the patio and the water spigot on the other side. Fortunately, we noticed a low hanging power line at the rear of the site before backing too far into it. We enjoyed a nice concrete patio and plenty of space on door side of the site so we didn't feel cramped at all. Water pressure was on the lower side (around 35psi) but consistent. 50a power was consistent and especially needed due to 90 degree temps that had both a/c units running most of the time. Courtesy wifi is provided around the pool area, otherwise you will have to subscribe to Camplink to get to the internet. Park rules noted that service is on a septic system and to release holding tank contents slowly. Our AT&T hotspot worked well and cell service was decent. There is no cable TV and OTA TV was very erratic. Certain times of the day were better than others but don't count on the TV reception. Sewer access was conveniently placed. Water access was at the rear corner of the site. Power pedestal was located 15' to the rear of the site. While we didn't use the pool, plenty of others did and it was clean and well kept. The majority of sites are dedicated to seasonal residents. The park is an eclectic mix of some very old homesteads and newer more modern units. The park could enforce some maintenance guidelines. Upkeep is a mixed bag but not a huge problem. The sites are tucked into a wooded area and most everyone enjoyed shade from the numerous trees. Probably not ideal for picking up satellite reception. Did we mention the residents? We met many friendly residents. We enjoyed our stay and would come back again. Unfortunately, site A139 is being converted to a seasonal site and will no longer be available after August 2019. We camped at Old Chatham Road RV Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Ok, it's Cape Cod and the Old Chatham Road RV Park is smack in the middle of the Cape. It turned out to be an excellent location for exploring all things on the Cape from Hyannis to Provincetown. Of special note is the Cape Cod Rail Trail bike and hiking trail system. You can go from Yarmouth to Wellfleet or Chatham on 30+ miles of beautifully paved trails. Whether you hike or bike, this is a "do not miss" opportunity for experiencing the Cape at a slower pace.

The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone, Verona, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Not much has changed at Turning Stone since we were last here. It is still a first rate RV park with great amenities. Our only comment is that site 422 was oddly shaped like a ( which made it difficult to enter without a wide swing onto the grass and required some juggling to get positioned. Several other sites in this area were similarly laid out. Because of recent rain, the grounds were wet when we arrived and got a bit rutted up which was unfortunate. Otherwise, we would definitely come back again when in the area. We camped at The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone in a Fifth Wheel.

Westfield / Lake Erie KOA, Westfield, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

In the heart of grapevine country, this is a nice place to stop along the shores of Lake Erie. The campground is located on a sloping hillside but all the sites are terraced with gravel. Ours was quite level and long enough to hold both the rig and truck. The park is very clean and sites are shaded with lots of trees. All the interior sites are pull thru. Although the access roads are narrow, they are decent for site access. Each site alternates direction so your rig parks close to the neighbor on the utility side. There is ample room on the door side shared with the other neighbor so you don't feel on top of each other. There is a clean picnic table and fire ring at each site. 50a power was solid. Water pressure was good. The cable TV quality was very good. We didn't try OTA TV. WiFi was difficult to connect to but our hotspot was 4 bar. AT&T cell coverage was very good. Like many KOAs, there is a lot to offer at the campground for those with a family. For those of us just passing thru for the night, the cost is a bit more than we typically pay. However, its location on the lake made it worth the stop. We would come back again. We camped at Westfield / Lake Erie KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Shipshewana Campground - South Park, Shipshewana, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

We were warmly greeted and efficiently checked in upon arrival. The park is well kept and very clean. Sites are gravel pads with a grass patio. Ours was very level with plenty of length for the rig and tow vehicle detached. Site width is reasonable with a fire ring and picnic table provided. 50amp power was rock solid for the two 90 degree days of our stay. Water pressure is between 30 - 40 psi. OTA TV channel reception was very good from South Bend. WiFi reception was decent and useful for email and light internet but no streaming. AT&T cell coverage was good. There was a rally taking place during our stay and they have a huge open area to accomodate large tents for those activities. We enjoyed our stay and would come back again. In addition to all thing Amish in the area, the Pumpkinvine Hiking/Biking Trailhead starts in Shipshewana and meanders for 20+ miles west towards Elkhart. The trail is exceptionally well maintained, paved, tree lined and mostly a level grade so it is geared for all abilities. In Middlebury the trail goes thru the Quilt Gardens which would make a great starting point too.

Percival Springs Airport & RV Park, Watson, Illinois

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Note that early spring camping is not the best time to showcase any RV park. Everything tends to look rough and worn until spring cleanup takes place and growth starts again. That said, we were thankful this park was open all year. The gravel sites were very long and very narrow. The sites alternate direction so you and your neighbor look at each other's door side. With no-one beside us, the site felt spacious. The patio is grass and at this time of the year it was a bit soft, wet and muddy around the RV due to the spring rains, which were falling while were there. Water pressure was 30psi max. Electric was good and sewer port convenient. OTA channel reception was good with 20+ received. Most sites are wide open for satellite. AT&T cellular and data reception was moderate but useable. There is no wifi so the AT&T hotspot worked well. Truck traffic on US 45 was noisy at times. The flight for life helicopter is for real but only took off once during the day while there. The RV park is located on the site of an old US 45 tourist wayside park with some remnants of its past still showing. Overall, this is a decent overnight stop and we would come back again. We camped at Percival Springs Airport & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Ole RV Resort, Goodlettsville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Tracks with frequent freight trains on west side and a busy hwy 41 on the east makes for a noisier park than most. All the gravel pads and patios were in good shape and recently refreshed. The park is a mixed bag of site widths and lengths. It's hard to get a feel for them from the online site map and many of the perimeter sites were quite close. The site we had was an easy back-in with parking across the front but very close to neighbors at the rear and off-door side. We were warmly greeted and efficiently checked in. The office also serves as the restaurant, camp store and sometime music venue. Water pressure very good at 40+ psi, 50a electric good, sewer port convenient. AT&T phone and data services were 4 bar good. 30+ OTA channels received. WiFi was okay for light duty use and would slow down regularly. We would stay again. We camped at Grand Ole RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Johnny Cash/June Carter Cash are buried in the Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Visiting the gravesite and the burned out remains of their home on Old Hickory Lake was a must. Genl. Daniel Smith, who surveyed and named Tennessee, built the Historic Rock Castle plantation. Its legacy dates back to the end of the American Revolution. The mansion tour is very interesting. Whet your whistle with a pint at Half Batch Brewing to end the day.

Hoover RV Park, Hoover, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

What else can I add. This is a parking lot with RV sites. The 40' site length is an issue. We witnessed one camper have to relocate because the adjacent RV parked their toad alongside and blocked the new arrivals site access. Unfortunately, no one was there to move the toad so they were forced to call and arrange another site. We recommend using the online reservation system to locate available sites with no one next to your RV door side if possible. Otherwise, w/e/s pedestal is conveniently placed. Water pressure was good. Electric was stable. WiFi was very good. OTA channel reception was very good with 30+ received. Our AT&T phones and hotspot received a moderately strong signal. The park was clean, safe and very good for an overnight stop. We would come back again. We camped at Hoover RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Hoover Met Complex is worth coming to see by itself. Hoover has a gem with this huge, magnificent sports complex. The numerous outdoor activity fields and walking tracks were actively being used while we were there. Inside the Finley Center were even more groups practicing basketball and volleyball skills. This RV park is a great place to stretch your legs and take a hike after a long day pulling the RV.

Sugar Sands RV Resort, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

A small, nicely landscaped and laid out resort with full concrete pad and patio. Wide, paved access roads make back-in easy for big rigs. There's plenty of length for the rig and truck disconnected. Site widths are very generous at 38 ft. Utilities are conveniently placed. Water pressure fluctuated but trended around 35psi. The clubhouse/pool area is a great venue for holding events. While the pool was heated, given the cooler winter climate, a hot tub would have been a welcome addition. Excellent cable TV service and 40 strong OTA channels available. WiFi was OK for light duty usage. It bogged down regularly and disconnected often. AT&T cell service was fair to poor and intermittently dropped service. Verizon was reportedly much better. The park ownership changed just after we arrived and construction of four new transient sites were started. They also set up a tiny home trailer on one lot as a rental unit. Otherwise, this is truly an RV'ers park with no other permanent units. The staff was very friendly and helpful and park residents actively led most of the activities during the month of our stay. We would come back again. We camped at Sugar Sands RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Breezy Oaks RV Park (55+), Bushnell, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Nice, welcoming, older park, decently maintained but clearly designed for the smaller RVs of years gone by. Many interior sites were a short 45' and a back-in challenge for a big rig due to narrow paved access roads. Office staff very helpful. Variety of activities planned during the month with music jam sessions twice a week. Poor to non-existent AT&T cellular service. Our phone and hotspot were practically useless. Verizon is reportedly good. Park WiFi was poor and inconsistent. OTA channel reception very limited with only one major network (ABC) + a few more out of Tampa. Well water pressure was low at 30psi. Access to W/S/E was convenient. Electric was good and stable. Pad/patio was firm sand/dirt/grass with good drainage. Our site length was decent and sloping slightly to the rear. Tow vehicle parking was offset in front. Site width was a narrow 10' to our neighbor on the door side. Heated swimming pool, clubhouse, shuffleboard, community fire pit, pool table, darts, library available. I-75 passes visibly by but traffic noise was minimal at our site. The park is expanding with new sites being added. WiFi was also being upgraded but not completed before we left. If we could book one of the pull-thru or newer sites, we would definitely give the park another try. Breezy Oaks was a good base camp for exploring rural Florida. We camped at Breezy Oaks RV Park (55+) in a Fifth Wheel.

Wild Frontier Campground, Ocala, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Wild Frontier changed since our stay in 2016. They expanded with another 200 sites and opened for business in Dec 2018. Considering new construction, the roads and sites were curiously designed for a modern RV park. The blacktopped access road width was 11' so you will back into your site while running over the grass and contending with the unit across. Blacktopped pad width was 8' (+/- a couple inches), which needed precision backing. All sites have grass patios with very rough laid sod. Our initially assigned back-in site was too short to contain the trailer and tow vehicle. Our parking options were to use an adjacent site until it rented or the distant overflow lot. They suggested we search for 5 potential sites and check for availability. Very few back-in sites had better length and a number had pedestals positioned at/near the rear, restricted useable length. We ultimately paid an upcharge and moved into a pull-thru. We noted shorter pull-thrus in the process. Poor base prep and 3" blacktop crushed easily on the edges; leveling pads settled in. Several motorcoaches pushed up blacktop in front of their wheels while maneuvering onto the lot. Storm drainage was an issue throughout. The office kindly delivered a set of boards to get from the RV to the road. We were not able to use the patio area for anything the entire month, something never experienced in 10 years of winter traveling. Wet, grassy feet tracked into the RV even after days of dry weather. During the month we experienced a 5 hour water outage, cable TV interruptions and erratic wifi performance. You should expect this park condition until the 2019 winter season. Ownership changed in mid-January. The new managers promised to rectify many issues in the coming off-season. Cable and wifi problems were being addressed before we left. Their goal is to make this a destination resort. Our recent experience was not good but we would reconsider after verifying changes have been made. We camped at Wild Frontier Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Cartersville / Cassville-White KOA, Cartersville, Georgia

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This was an overnight stop for us on the way to Florida. The park is located conveniently off I-75 and yet far enough so that traffic noise is not a problem. Although we arrived mid-afternoon, the office was not open and directions posted on the door said to choose any open site without an orange cone on it. We were fortunate to find one of the few pull thru sites left. The price was fixed regardless of site and no discounts offered. Access roads and site pads are all gravel, reasonably level and long enough for our rig. Park roads were easy to navigate and access site spaces. Water pressure was good, as was AC power. Dump ports were conveniently located although we didn't use. We received a number of OTA TV channels quite clearly. We didn't use the wifi and our hotspot received a decent signal. My wife used the woman's facilities and said they were clean and well kept. This was a quick overnight and we were on the road before daybreak. We would stay here again. Sudbury Court Motel & RV Park, Marengo, Iowa

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This was our last stop before heading home from a winter trip down south. We had stayed here before but it now has a new owner who is operating it a little differently from our last experience. We had planned to thoroughly clean the holding tanks and drain the water lines in prep for final winterizing once we got home. Campground was advertised as open but water had not been turned on at the site due to pending cold weather. The restroom / shower facility was also still closed for the winter. We were able to get water to flush the tanks from a frost proof supply about 150' away. The owner also provided a motel room for us to take a shower and clean up which we greatly appreciated. The park was clean. Our site was level and plenty long for the rig and truck. Site width was decent at 40+'. 50A power was stable and the dump port convenient. Our hotspot and cell signals were very weak. There is wi-fi available but we didn't use it. OTA TV channel reception was good from Cedar Rapids. A train rolled thru around 4am on nearby tracks blowing his whistle down the line which got our attention, otherwise it was reasonably quiet. Overall, the campground is pleasant with plenty of trees and we would stop again. Just call first to check on services available if you are stopping in the shoulder seasons. We camped at Sudbury Court Motel & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Prairie Oasis Campground and Cabins, Henderson, Nebraska

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We were warmly greeted, presented with a couple of freshly made muffins and guided to our site. Pull thrus are very long and level although site widths are only 21'. With only a little strip of grass between, you are close to your neighbor. 50 amp power was stable, water pressure 40-45 psi, two sewer dump ports available were convenient. The park was clean. OTA TV received a dozen channels out of Lincoln. WiFi was very good during our stay but I should note there were only four rigs in the park that night. Their policy sheet notes that due to the proximity of farmland the Park's water supply has slightly elevated nitrate levels. They do provide filtered reverse osmosis water for your convenience. We're happy to see they called this out and provided a good solution for safe drinking water. We would come back again. We camped at Prairie Oasis Campground and Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.
