CreekFire Motor Ranch, Savannah, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

This is a big RV Resort. Everything from the offices to the pool area to the individual sites are first class and well maintained. There is a large pool, large hot tub, large kiddy splash area, tennis court, and basketball court. The pavilion at the pool area can host some large get togethers. Phase II construction was underway during our visit in October, 2019. I was told another 100 sites were planned. It is a bit pricey but is convenient to Savannah and all it attractions. We would go back for sure. We camped at CreekFire Motor Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

Reed Bingham State Park, Adel, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Reed Bingham State Park located about 5 miles west of interstate 75 in Adel, Ga. is a large, quiet, secluded and very peaceful park. Many activities are available including boating, hiking putt putt golf, etc. The campground is divided into two loops. Each loop is comprised mostly of pull throughs parallel to the road. Most sites are heavily wooded with Live Oaks and Pines. The large central area of the loops is open with bath houses and areas for children to play. Most sites in loop 2 have full hook ups with cable and 50 amp service. Be sure to check before reserving because some sites only have 30 amp service and no sewer. Satellite TV service could be a challenge on many sites because of the trees but off air TV was good. We had 2 bars of Verizon service.

During check in, the ranger called our attention to the Georgia State Park annual pass. Buying the pass save us $55 on a 5 night stay plus it's good for discounts at all Georgia State parks for the next 12 months. We were very appreciative. We camped at Reed Bingham State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tickfaw State Park, Springfield, Louisiana

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice Louisiana State Park located in an isolate forest surrounded by swamp with a bayou leading to the Tickfaw River. The nearest town is Springfield about 10 miles away so bring what you need. It is literally at the end of the road so don't give up you will get there. Tickfaw has 30 RV sites, 30 tent sites and 14 nice looking cabins. It has a nature center, splash Park for the kids and several nature trails. The interior roads and site parking pads are paved and in good condition. The sites are spacious, quite and private. Each has a wooden deck, lantern poll, fire ring, and table. The campground is cut out of tall oaks, pines and Cyprus trees so satellite reception was a no-go. Verizon had 2/4 bars and off air TV reception was good for all networks. There is WiFi and it work reasonably well at site #7. The bathhouse is very clean and well maintained. The laundry has 5 washers and 2 dryers. All looked relatively new, worked great and are free to use. We camped at Tickfaw State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lakeside RV Park, Livingston, Louisiana

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This RV Park has an urban feel about it. It is located alongside a somewhat busy road not far from I-12 east of Baton Rouge. The interior roads, campsite parking pads and patios are all concrete. What is not concrete is mowed grass. The sites are close together and arranged around three sides of a large square shaped lake. The sites along the lake have a nice big grassy "backyard" leading to the lakeshore. Half or more of the sites are occupied by what appears to be long term guest. We first visited here in 2011 and the place had a new look about it then. 8 years later and it still looks very good. It is clean, neat and well maintained. I estimate it was 90% full the weekend we were there. There was no problem with WiFi signal strength, reliability or speed at site 123. Verizon worked well with 3/4 bars. We found off air TV channels best received from Baton Rouge instead of New Orleans. We camped at Lakeside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Palmetto Island State Park, Abbeville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Saying Palmetto Island is isolated is an understatement. It is literally cut from the Louisiana forest about 10 miles south of Abbeville. The interior roads are paved, kind of, and the sites are gravel (not the small pea size gravel it is crusher run). Each site has a table, fire ring and post for a lantern. Water and electrical hookups are 3-4 feet off the ground and look new. The sites are wide, deep and surrounded with tall oaks and palmettos. The back of each site is a forest. Most are very private; some you can't see your neighbor. There is WiFi but it was very unreliable. Verizon worked fine with 2/4 bars. Don't plan on satellite as only a couple of sites had a clear shot but there is off air network TV. The volunteers keep this place in good shape. The bathhouse/laundry was very clean and orderly with a newish appearance. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like seafood drive into Abbeville to Duruy's or Shucks. The oysters and shrimp were GREAT! The famous Tabasco sauce plant is about a 40 minute bone jarring drive away but we found it worth the trip.

Blackwater River State Park , Holt, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This may be the best, in terms of environment, Florida State Park Campground we have visited and we have visited a dozen or so. The volunteers keep in wonderful condition. It's small but clean, neat and well maintained. The campground is isolated in a forest full of tall pines and oaks but all sites have full hook ups; something not often found in such a location. It is located about 4 miles off of US 90 and about 15 Miles east of Milton, Fl. There are two loops, Magnolia and TiTi. The interior roads are paved; the sites are nice level pea gravel that has been raked smooth before you arrive. All sites have a picnic table, grill and fire pit. There is a nice little playground in the center of Magnolia loop. Most sites in Magnolia are deep, wide and private with plenty of room. Some sites in TiTi loop are not as deep so check that against your rig's length when booking. It's a nice short walk to Blackwater River. The river is shallow and full of inviting clean sand bars. Overall you can't beat this state park campground if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful place to hangout for a few days in the deep woods of the Florida panhandle. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Yellow Jacket Campground, Old Town, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Nice secluded campground located on the banks of the Suwannee River. It is 10 miles from the nearest town (Old Town) so be sure to stock up before arriving. The park store has some ice cream and firewood (at very good price) and that's about it. You must navigate a mile long dirt road full of small potholes to find the campground but it's worth it. The park is heavily wooded with mature live oaks, pine trees and palmettos. We were there the first week of March. The park was 80-90 percent full when we were there, mostly snowbirds but very peaceful and quiet. The interior roads and sites are sand and mostly level. The hookups are located conveniently 4 - 5 feet above the ground on a post. Cable was very snowy and not good at all. We were lucky and able to find a hole in the tree canopy for a Diredtv signal. Wi-Fi signal was strong but limited bandwidth made it very slow and unusable most hours of the day. Verizon had 1 bar and iffy at best. The pool has solar heating but was a little green and in need of some TLC when we were there. Most of the sites are cut at 90 degree to the road which makes for a bit of a challenge backing in considering there are so many trees so close to the road. Chiefland is an easy 13 mile drive south of Old Town, 23 miles from Yellow Jacket. It has most of the standard restaurants, Walmart Super Center, etc. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is really showing its age. The asphalt interior roads and pads are getting in bad shape. Several site pads have big hole patches that can make leveling your camper difficult. The bath houses are dated but clean and plenty of hot water. The campground needs a good grooming. The swamp, on which it is built, is trying to reclaim the area. Some of the overgrowth is encroaching onto the interior roads. It give one the impression that maintenance is lacking. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Five Flags RV Park, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Five Flags is a very clean well maintained park with a friendly inviting staff. I don't think I saw one piece of trash on the ground anywhere in the park. This place is uniquely decorated with old vehicles, flowers everywhere and mowed grass. That tells me they take pride in maintaining the park, especially since the place was FULL. Not one empty space. The sites are somewhat tightly spaced but not uncomfortably so. Many appear to have long term campers but they too were neat and decorated. Not one was junkie or cluttered. Interior roads are wide gravel but the sites have concrete pads and patios. WiFi is robust, even with a full park the speed was very good. Cable is analog but has most all the standard local and national channels. There is no pool, club house or other amenities. We camped at Five Flags RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Florala City Park, Florala, Alabama

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Lake Jackson is a nice little campground among the Cyprus trees along the shore of Lake Jackson. It was once a state park that is now operated by the city of Florala. There are 28 sites with full hookups. They are level gravel and for the most part spacious. The interior road is paved. The first 12 sites are on the lake. Reservations are accepted but all sites are first come first serve. The bath house is a little dated but clean and neat. The campground is a part of a larger park complex that runs along the shore of Lake Jackson. Both campground and city park are well maintained and clean. There is a nice paved walking trail that runs from the campground, along the edge of the park and into downtown Florala. Cable is provided by Dish network but there only a few channels and the quality was not good. Off air antenna reception for the major networks was good and Verizon signal was excellent, 4 bars. Wi-Fi is available but very unreliable. This is a nice out of the way park good for a few days of relaxing. We camped at Florala City Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Gunter Hill COE, Montgomery, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

Catoma Loop in Gunter Hill COE Park is as good as it gets if you like large wooded sites, peace, quiet and full hookups. All interior roads are paved and the sites pads are concrete. Each site has a large gravel patio with a fire pit, lantern post with a shelf, BBQ grill and large table. There is no cable and satellite reception would be available only at a handful of sites. Over the air TV reception was very good, however. I had 2-3 bars of Verizon service.

Many sites have a view of the creeks that surround the campground. The large bath house is very nice and has a laundry. While you are deep in the woods of Catoma, Al., Prattville with all the shopping and restaurants you could want is less than 15 minutes away as is downtown Montgomery. My only negative comment is the grass was in need of cutting. It was high when we arrived Monday and had not been cut when left Friday morning. The Antioch loop is a different story. The roads are ruff and tight. The sites aren't much better either. I would not describe Antioch as poor but doesn't approach the Catoma Loop. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Meaher State Park, Spanish Fort, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This my third review of Meaher State Park in the 4 past years. The first 2 were accurate but not very kind. I'm happy to say things have changed! The bath house/laundry was clean with a new coat of paint and the washers and dryers were clean and appeared to be in good shape. This is a very nice park with large comfortable paved sites with paved patios. The staff was inviting and professional. The park was clean, neat and orderly. This is a nice place to relax for a few days, enjoy some great seafood, beautiful sunsets over Mobile bay and a peaceful atmosphere. Ants have always been a problem here. BUT, a contractor has been hired and is working on controlling/eliminating them. We had no problems with ants this trip. In fact, I don't think I saw the first ant over the 3 days we were there. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Cedar Key RV Resort, Cedar Key, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Cedar Key RV Resort is located about 7 miles from the coastal town of Cedar Key, Fla. The interior roads are paved and all sites have asphalt drive and nice lever concrete parking pads, large patios and are nicely spaced from one another. Most of the sites are shaded with old oak and pine trees. About 30% of the sites are open with a few young trees. It is clean and well maintained. At check in, we were given a calendar for the month listing daily events such as; chili cook offs, quilt sessions, water exercise, social hour and games and so on. Every day in the month of March had something going on. The campground WiFi was problematic. We were constantly dropped from the service and when on found it very slow. We gave up on the WiFi. Verizon had 2 or 4 bars LTE service. Cable had 10 or so channels, mostly major networks. Hook ups are conveniently located in a modern pedestal containing cable, power and water. Sewer hookup is a little odd. The pipe is at the bottom of a block of cement approximately 15 X 15 X 6 inches deep. It is impossible to get a hose with a 90 degree elbow to seal in the pipe. This is a nice place and we would come back. We camped at Cedar Key RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Manatee State Park, Bradenton, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice state park with good paved interior roads. Our site was flat and level sand with crushed shell. There's no asphalt or concrete but they are spacious and private. Each one has a table and fire ring. The campground is carved out of Florida woodlands thick with pines, oaks and palmettos. For the most part, you don't notice your next door neighbor because of the lush native barrier between each site. There is a nice playground in the day use portion of the park. The bath houses were kept clean and neat during our stay. There is no laundry facility on site. The campground proper is located about ½ miles from highway 64. I did notice some road noise early in the day and here is a race track nearby that can be heard also. I didn't find either annoying or obtrusive. Off air TV reception is good for all networks with 20+ channels. We were lucky and found a hole through the trees to use our satellite dish. There is no WiFi but Verizon had 4 of 4 bars LTE service. Lake Manatee SP has become our new place to stay while visiting family in the Bradenton area. We camped at Lake Manatee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Ross Prairie Trailhead & Campground, Dunnellon, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice campground located about 10 miles west of I-10 close to Ocala, Florida. The staff was topnotch, friendly and helpful. All the sites are gravel (crushed shell) pull thoughts and are fairly level side to side but front to back, not so much. For the most part, the sites are oriented south to north which makes for a shady afternoon outside your door with ample space to enjoy the picnic table or a campfire in the fire ring. The lone bathhouse is not conveniently located. It was clean but well used and is due a refurbishment. There is no laundry facility on site. They cater to horses here but it does not impact the campground. There is a separate parking area for their trailers outside the camping area. The weekend we were here there were many riders enjoying their horses on the riding trails which originate in the park. There are walking and biking trails here also. Highway 200 was a little noisy but, for the most part, we didn't notice it. Off air local TV station were weak. We could not get NBC or CBS. There is no WiFi but Verizon had 4 of 4 bars LTE service. Shopping and restaurants are only a couple of miles up the road. This is not a bad place to rest for a night or two. We would go back. We camped at Ross Prairie Trailhead & Campground in a Travel Trailer.
