Cherry Creek State Park, Aurora, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access to and in the campground with our extra large 40'+ Big Rig RV. Pretty setting and quiet at night. Rate reflects $26 camping rate + $10 reservation fee + $9 daily vehicle fee. Very nice bathhouses but wasn't impressed by the pay showers; fifty cents per three minutes is somewhat over the top. Great AT&T and Verizon signal. Most sites suitable for satellite; check map when reserving for tree cover. We would return. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Glendo Lakeside RV Park, Glendo, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Follow campground's website directions. GPS off by several miles. Easy access to and in the park with our larger sized 40'+ Big Rig RV. Pricey for a gravel lot style park with full hookups. Wide open for satellite reception and Verizon and AT&T both have good signal, which was great because we weren't provided with a password for the WiFi. Very dusty and not "lakeside". Nearby trains run regularly through the day and night and whistles sound just about the time you are getting back to sleep from the last train and whistle. One noisy night was enough - We would not return. We camped at Glendo Lakeside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Clearly I'm in the minority but I don't understand the high ratings for this campground. Easy access to and in the park with our extra large sized 40+ Big Rig RV. Very Expensive and I was on a site with thin washed-out gravel with no cable or wifi. Not a resort; more a campground with a swimming pool and a dirty hot-tub. Power flickered several times during our stay. Water was opaque (like watered down milk). Pretty setting but sites are not oriented to see the views. Will look for a campground that is priced more reasonably in relation to amenities offered next time in the area. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be aware that in Custer State Park some lakes and day use areas are part of the Black Hills National Forrest and are not covered by the admission fee to Custer State Park. Not clearly reflected on visitor maps and a 15 minute walk along Bismarck Lake resulted in a $4 ticket.

Area's Finest Country View Campground, Ogallala, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Well deserving of its good rating. Very easy access to and in the park with our extra large 40'+ Big Rig RV. Close to the interstate but no traffic noise. Full hookups, long level pull-through sites, and friendly / helpful staff all for a reasonable price. This is a winner and we will stay again every time we pass through the area. We camped at Area's Finest Country View Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Pine Grove RV Park and Campground, Greenwood, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access to and in the park with our larger 40'+ Big Rig RV. Decent and well kept park but nonstop noise. Highway noise and train noise day and night. Glad we didn't stay during a race at the stock-car racetrack which is literally right next to the park. Low water pressure. Next time in the area we will look for someplace quieter. We camped at Pine Grove RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Bob Shetler Campground COE, Johnston, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed 3 nights in 2 different sites due to availability. Sites in loop near spillway (50 amp / concrete pad) deserve a 7 rating. Easy access to and in the park with our oversized 40'+ Big Rig RV for this section; Wide pads make backing in easy. Sites in main campground loops (30 amp / gravel sites) deserve a 5 or lower rating. Sites in this section have railroad ties defining the sites and bordering each site's entrances making backing into the sites more difficult than it needs to be. High weeds growing through gravel at sites and our site was very unlevel. We would stay in the 50 amp loop again but not in the 30 amp section. We camped at Bob Shetler Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Use website directions if coming from I35, but instead of NW 37th St the correct turn is onto NW 84th Ave which immediately turns into NW 37th St.

Also, Site #12 borders the spillway parking lot for fisherman. Apparently the area is available for fisherman at all hours. Many vehicles and loud motorcycles late at night and early in the morning were a nuisance for us while trying to sleep.

Deer Run Resort, Elkader, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access to and in the park with our oversized 40'+ Big Rig RV. All sites back-in but easy to negotiate. Rate reflects a week's stay. Quiet at night. Utilities at back of site so extra water hose was needed. Great Verizon LTE service but minimal AT&T signal (voice and texting service was sporadic but no internet for at least an hour's drive in any direction from Elkader). Silverbear's comprehensive July 2015 review (and directions) were spot-on. We would return. We camped at Deer Run Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Adventureland Campground, Altoona, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access to and in the park with our oversized 40'+ Big Rig RV. Everything in park is dated and could use updating. Sites are quite close together. Full hookups, good cell service (ATT and Verizon), and quiet at night. Wouldn't be my first choice if in the area again but we would not hesitate to return if other options unavailable. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Kansas State Fairgrounds, Hutchinson, Kansas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access to and in the park with our 40'+ fifth wheel RV. $20 per night for full hookups and quiet at night makes this park a great value. Sites would be very close if park is busy (week of the fair especially) but we stayed several nights with no events going on and there were only four other campers here. We would certainly stay again. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Milford State Park, Milford, Kansas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Review applies only to a five night stay in the Eagle Ridge section (equestrian loop); other loops vary greatly in character and services. Easy access to and in the park with our oversized 40'+ BigRig RV. Price paid includes a daily vehicle fee that wasn't mentioned until check-in. Poorly designed loops; park has plenty of space but many sites are very close to one another and many with oddly placed utility services - choose a suitable site carefully ahead of time if making reservations. Would have rated park lower but it was very quiet at night. We would stay again but certainly wouldn't go out of our way to do so. We camped at Milford State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Picked this park as it was relatively close to Fort Riley and Abilene attractions. If staying at other parks in this area check proximity of train tracks. This park, unlike others in the area, had no train traffic at night.

As another reviewer posted, Easiest way to campground is from I-470 Exit 14, then East on Bowlin Road to Campground Road which is about 1/2 mile from I-470. Then turn North onto campground road to the site. My GPS wanted to take me to another location miles away.

Onondaga Cave State Park, Leasburg, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is reasonably priced with a beautiful setting. Easy access in the campground with our larger sized 40'+ BigRig RV however access road to the park from the highway has some low branches that caused some concern and caused us to drive the center at several spots. Asphalt campground roads and level concrete pads that are relatively easy to back into. No AT&T or Verizon cell service for several miles. Wouldn't have been a problem but the advertised WiFi wasn't working during our stay. Nor was it fixed when we were told it would be. Not much chance of satellite signal nor could we pickup any over-the-air channels. I enjoy nature as much as the next person but a stay of more than one night completely disconnected from the world was too much. Unimpressed by the severely dated restrooms and showers - another big issue with no sewer in the campground. Bottom line : beautiful setting with no communications with the outside world ; If you enjoy that then this campground is a 10. I would not return under the same circumstances. MAYBE for a night if their Internet was working. We camped at Onondaga Cave State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Follow directions on website / emailed reservation confirmation and DO NOT pass the visitors center / campground. Road quickly deteriorates over the Meremac River turning into a nearly single-lane unpaved mountain-style road unsuitable for an RV.

Big Red Barn RV Park, Carthage, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access to and in the park with our 40'+ RV. Pros: Level gravel sites, full hookups, and close to the highway but quiet at night. Cons: No pool, and as a prior reviewer posted, their pricing is a bit of a racket: it's not at all worth their standard $40 per night rate but they "find" a discount for everyone. We would not hesitate to stay here again but would probably try the other choice nearby if in the area again. We camped at Big Red Barn RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Red Oaks II is about 10 minutes away and one of the most unique attractions we have ever seen. The artist-owner is moving buildings from his childhood home to the site and it's a very unique creation.

America's Best Campground, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Gravel pull-through sites on a hillside. Not the best campground in America but comparable to other choices in Branson. Asphalt interior roads with terrible potholes. Easy access to and in the park with our larger 40'+ RV if you follow the website directions. Very nice owners earned a point higher to the overall rating. Reasonable price and decent amenities. No place nicer in the area so we would return. We camped at America's Best Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

During our stay there were several very bad rainstorms and sites at the lower level of the park (near a spillway) were flooded and completely washed out from rushing water. I would not, under any circumstances, stay at the low points of this park.

The Creeks Golf & RV Resort, Cave Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Wanted to stay at one of several nearby COE parks but none were accessible due to recent rains and flooding. Pros: Easy access in the park with our 40'+ RV, utilities worked well, quiet at night. Cons: Very high nightly rate, no "resort" type facilities, no patio or picnic table, very close spaces, concrete pads are more unlevel than they appear to the naked eye, and Rt. 412 leading to the park (coming from the south) is a fairly narrow 2 lane road that needs some tree trimming. Bottom line: you're paying top dollar for a concrete pad and full hookups. If in the area again we will forego sewer and stay elsewhere. We camped at The Creeks Golf & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

RV entrance is the same one used for the golf course - when you see The Creek Golf Resort sign, turn into the drive.

Crystal Bridges is a must-see free art museum that was spectacular! We walked from there downtown to the WalMart museum (approx 3/4 mile) and enjoyed a treat at the reasonably priced WalMart soda fountain at the exit of that museum. Made for a very nice day!
