Catherine's Landing, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

As good as it gets. One of our top five favorite parks. Well designed, exceptional management, easy access to and in the park with our 40'+ Big Rig RV, blacktop drives throughout, level concrete pads, and all at a fair price (rate reflects a week's stay). We would definitely return. We camped at Catherine's Landing in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If you go to either of the Hot Springs National Park spas, make sure you have non-cotton swim trunks so you aren't refused access to the water unless you buy a pair of "their" swim trunks.

Springhill COE, Barling, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access to and in the park with our 40'+ RV but our back-in site (B3) was at a 90 degree angle from the road; not an overly hard site to back in but a little angle would have been nice. "B" section sites are wooded with 50 amp electric and most (but not all) sites have water. "A" section has wider paved sites with less overhead cover along the water but only 30 amp electric and most (but not all) sites have water. Very helpful and friendly woman at the front access gate / booth. Quiet at night. Only a few minutes away from Fort Smith proper. We would stay again. We camped at Springhill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Arbuckle RV Resort, Sulphur, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Not sure it qualifies as a resort but this was a very nice campground. Friendly owner escorted us to our site and helped us park. Very easy access to and in the park with our 40'+ BigRig RV. No pull-thru's but very wide drives make the park and sites easy to negotiate. Gravel drive and sites / pads. Clean, neat, and well kept park and the price was reasonable. Cell service via AT&T and an iPad on Verizon and both received solid LTE signal. We would stay again. We camped at Arbuckle RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Canyon, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This park well deserves its high ratings. Beautiful scenery and views from our site in the Mesquite loop. Went slow up and down the grade into the park and had no problem with our 40'+ big rig RV. Price does not reflect required entry fee to the park of $5 per adult/day in addition to campsite rate. Bathrooms were older and filthy - plenty of dead bugs indicated they obviously had not been cleaned in a long time. Book well in advance as the campsites are in high demand. We will definitely return. We camped at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Trailer Village RV Park, Roswell, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Well kept gravel lot style park with full hookups. Level sites and easy access to and in the park for our 40'+ Big Rig RV. Owner was constantly working to improve park during our stay. Other choices in area were unimpressive. Price reflects Good Sam discount. Although a good park, there is nothing about the park, or in Roswell, that would bring me back for $38 per night. We camped at Trailer Village RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Santa Fe Skies RV Park, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Very easy access to and in the park with our big rig RV. Stone / gravel sites, full hookups, and about 7 miles from downtown Santa Fe attractions. Price reflects a week's stay and seemed a bit high given the few amenities offered. We would stay again. We camped at Santa Fe Skies RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cactus RV Park (CLOSED), Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Hate giving the park a "5" because it's a decent park with level gravel spaces in a unique former motel courtyard type setting and very kind and friendly owners. Easy access to and in the park with our larger RV. The problem is the neighborhood; residences nearby are somewhat sketchy and even Tucumcari proper is very depressed and in a sad state of repair. I was in a space outside the courtyard and refused the first space, insisting on being closer to the main area and other campers. I would not stay again at this RV park or in Tucumcari. We camped at Cactus RV Park (CLOSED) in a Fifth Wheel.

Buffalo Bob's RV Park, Lawton, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects a week's stay. Easy access to and in the park with our larger RV. Concrete roads, pads and pull-through sites. All utilities worked well. Fair amount of long term campers but they were all friendly and polite. Gets a high rating because, although not a resort, I couldn't think of anything bad with the park during our stay. We would certainly return. We camped at Buffalo Bob's RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Fort Smith State Park, Mountainburg, Arkansas

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

An excellent experience from start to finish. Great state park with easy access to and in the park with our larger RV. Must follow the directions given on the park's website as GPS and GoogleMaps has the wrong location for the park on a barely improved road not suitable for any size RV. Lots of wildlife and a very short walk to a seasonal waterfall. Spacious blacktop sites, dead quiet at night, and full hookups made this worth the 17 mile detour from our I40 travels. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Grade on Route 400 is very steep for the 2 miles from Route 71 to park entrance. Gear down and go slow and road is fine.

Huntington / Fox Fire KOA, Milton, West Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

After a decent experience a couple years ago, this overnight stay left much to be desired. Good : Very nice office staff and clean bathhouses. Bad : $43 / night for an off-season stay in an unlevel site consisting of mud and calf-high weeds is a ripoff. Hopefully the owners spend some of my money on gravel for the sites. We will not return.

Follow online directions for those with a big rig. The entrance turn coming from the east is a tight 180 degree turn. We camped at Huntington / Fox Fire KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Seminole Campground and RV Park, North Fort Myers, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects a week's stay. Pros : well-kept and clean facilities, easy access to and in the park with our larger RV, employee who assisted us in parking was excellent, quiet at night, very pet friendly. Cons: close spaces (common to south Florida), too pet friendly if you are not a dog person (most campers had one or more dogs - many large breeds). If in area we would stay here again but would probably try other campgrounds closer to beaches and area attractions first. We camped at Seminole Campground and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wanee Lake Golf and RV Resort, Ashburn, Georgia

Date of Stay: December, 2014 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Hard to describe this as a resort given the dirt interior roads but, aside from that, everything else about our stay was excellent. Made for an excellent overnight on our way south via I75. Young man checking us in couldn't have been nicer. Easy access to and in the park with our larger RV. We would certainly stay again. We camped at Wanee Lake Golf and RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
