Valley View RV, Elko, Nevada

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Located about 2.5 miles outside of Elko (use exit 303, NOT what your gps will give you), very affordable, basic - has an excellent laundry, small bathroom facility, sites are sufficient - concrete pad, NO picnic tables (14/nite remember?), gravel for the trailer and yes, some weeds - ignore them! Residents are quiet. Highway is close by. We camped at Valley View RV in a Fifth Wheel.

Shady Acre RV Park, Huntington, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very basic park on the north end of Huntington. It is truly nothing special - but for a low fee (less if you stay for a week), you'll get full hookups and a safe place to stay. The main attraction about this park is its proximity to truly amazing places to explore. Some sites have 30A, some have 50A. We camped at Shady Acre RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The San Rafael Swell, The Wedge, Ancient Pictograph sketches, Swinging Bridge, Huntington Canyon, LOTS of reservoirs for boating/kayaking and more are all literally minutes away - mostly less than an hours drive. There are also 2 state parks, one is just 2 miles north. It also has camping, but is often fully booked on weekends, and frankly costs more than Shady Acre.

Mountain View RV Park, Wellington, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is based upon a weeks stay. Yes its a dumpy little campground adjacent to a typical roadside motel - BUT - the motel has a nice, clean indoor pool (maintained at 89F), and a cafe that serves a GREAT breakfast and good dinner (with prices reminiscent of 20 years ago.) The staff is friendly and accommodating and the electric works, the water is fine and the sites have sewer. Yes, the concrete pads are in need of repair, yes the weeds grow wherever and the immediate scenery is non-existent, but, the location - proximity to Price and the recently rebirthed Helper is excellent. This could also serve as a launch point for the San Rafael Swell and other natural sites in the region. We camped at Mountain View RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Camperworld Lakeside Park, Duchesne, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

A very good place. New ownership - no longer "camperworld", the new owners are accepting members from the past along with the public. Passport America is accepted and there are fewer restrictions than in many campgrounds. Nice sites - good space, trees and green grass! Small laundry on site (2 washers, 2 dryers - $2 to wash; $1 to dry) New management is VERY helpful and friendly. Proximity to Starvation Reservoir is excellent, they have a boat ramp on site to launch into the water (and a small dock.) Easy in/out. Close to the town of Duchesne - very quiet, rural American town. Town has 3 gas stations; Cowans Cafe - good food! And a riverfront area that is very quiet. We camped at Camperworld Lakeside Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lakeside Terrace Mobile Home Park, Grand Coulee, Washington

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is more of a mobile home park that allows RVs. Sites are not particularly level and some can be tough to get into. Verizon works OK - but not fast. Good location - about 3 miles outside of town. Poorly marked, call to get markers to insure you don't miss it. Neighbors (virtually like everywhere) were nice folks and the manager is accessible. I paid Passport America rate for 2 nights. We camped at Lakeside Terrace Mobile Home Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cascade Meadows RV Resort, La Pine, Oregon

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

I rarely plan a campground like this, but these folks don't "get" hospitality. As a full timer, from time to time I need packages delivered. I inquired about how to address a package so I could receive it when I arrived, I was told "we don't accept ANY packages". Ok... then I don't stay there, give you my money, or a recommendation. Period. I had expected this to be a satisfactory park. They are a Passport America park and one always appreciates the opportunity to save money. They are also in a good location (but other parks are as well.)

Expect an open meadow and dusty roads - especially if it hasn't rained in a few days. It does get below freezing at night so be prepared with water and to use your furnace. We camped at Cascade Meadows RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Beachfront RV Park, Brookings, Oregon

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Beachfront RV park is RIGHT ON THE OCEAN. There are few (if any) rv parks where you can get closer to the ocean! Due to a unique layout, you can get a pull through - full hookup site virtually on the beach - and pull in from either direction. This means if you have a 5th wheel - rear living, you can set up so your rear bay window overlooks the ocean! Close to town, good wifi, excellent Verizon service. Be sure to go to the Hungry Clam (often) while here! We camped at Beachfront RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Salt Creek Recreation Area, Port Angeles, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Salt Creek is a County run park that is about as far west as a big rig should consider traveling. From here you can travel to the NW corner of the 'lower 48' and visit some of the Indian reservation areas to the west of Port Angeles. This park is ON the straights of Juan de Fuca that separate the USA from Canada. While you ARE "waterfront", you are NOT "on the water" - that is, there is an area to climb down rocks to the water, but if you have a boat or kayak and wish to put it into the water, you'll have to travel a bit to find a good spot to do this. Verizon was spotty - AND - you're likely to connect to a Canadian cell tower. With the new Verizon plans, you can easily get 512mb data use daily when connecting to Canadian cell towers. Port Angeles is 20 minutes to the east. Good restaurants, cafes, marine aquarium, place to put into the water with a kayak, bike/walking path along the water front (runs for miles.) Has 2 Safeways. In the campground, the front row (closest to the water) is "first come, first served, max stay 14 days." I was advised to arrive early and if necessary wait until someone pulls out of their spot. This is a VERY popular park and I stayed here in late September arriving on a Sunday - I was able to secure a site quickly and there were 2 others open at that time. There are about 15 of these type of (non-reservation) sites. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Port Townsend, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

A very basic place - power hookups are 15A, sites are largely not quite level, essentially a big grass field with power poles distributed in a grid. Good location - near town, near Ft. Worden. Verizon nearly non existent. Stayed 1 night on my way west. We camped at Jefferson County Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Smokiam RV Resort (formerly Soap Lake RV Resort), Soap Lake, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

Yep, its expensive, no getting around that, especially considering there's a municipal campground about 3 miles to the south in Soap Lake - and on the water. But... this campground truly is a resort - large swimming pool, TWO hot tubs (one for adults only), a few (very expensive) sites with hot tubs; a cafe that provides breakfast, reasonably complete store, and good wifi. Verizon was marginal in the campground. Sites are not overly large, but large enough. Nice waterfront w/ beach and even in 3rd week of Sept. it was warm enough to enter the water. Great spot to take a healthful mud bath as soap lake is a unique alkaline lake loaded with healthful minerals that apparently the natives knew about hundreds of years ago. We camped at Smokiam RV Resort (formerly Soap Lake RV Resort) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to see steamboat state park about 20 miles to the north as well as the dry falls in between. Hiking? Watch for snakes in this region. Verizon will not work in the canyon to the north (between Soap Lake & Grand Cooley about 50 miles to the north), as noted earlier, signal was poor in the park, its better in the town of Soap Lake, but still not great.

Coulee Playland Resort, Electric City, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Located on Banks Lake (look into the history of Grand Coulee Dam to appreciate what this lake is and how it was created) this park is actually 3 sections - one section (just North of the other two) is a loop of mostly pull thru sites - ON THE WATER. There was plenty of space to navigate in this section. The two other sections, one on the water and one just a bit away from it, are near the marina and store. The store carries a complete range of fishing and water "stuff" - and prices are reasonable! They do rent boats, kayaks, etc. so, I can accept the "resort" designation in their name. The two sections near the marina could be considered tight if you are in a 40 ft camper, smaller campers should have no issues. Banks Lake is a great spot -and this park is right next to Grand Coulee. Electric City is really part of the same community as Grand Coulee. We camped at Coulee Playland Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Roosevelt National Rec Area - Evans Campground, Evans, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the FEW "big rig" friendly CGs in the Lake Roosevelt National Rec Area. I have a 35 ft. 5er and easily navigated in/out of the campground. VERY close to the water (lake) - well actually the Columbia River, but its dammed downstream at Grand Coulee and the flow is minimal. Easy kayaking! Biggest challenge I had was too many trees blocking the solar panels. Otherwise, even though you're 10 miles N of Kettle Falls, Verizon signal is strong. Dump station for campground - easy access on way out. Take your time on Washington 25, it winds a bit and heading back South, you've got a guardrail right next to you. You're about 16 miles south of Northport and from there another 7 miles or so to the border (Rossland, BC). Nearest provisions, etc. are Kettle Falls. Northport does not have much (it has a small western family grocery and a small pub.) We camped at Lake Roosevelt National Rec Area - Evans Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Northeast Washington Fair Grounds, Colville, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is excellent for what it is - its in the center of town (Colville). If you wish, you can walk to almost everything (within 15 minutes.) The fairgrounds represents a safe, quiet place to park your camper while you explore the region. In my case, it allowed me to scope out the National Recreation Area campsites to find one I liked (and could fit in) - I have a 35 ft 5er. Verizon was EXCELLENT (of course it should be, you're in town!) You have a choice of full hookup (25/nite) or elec only (15/nite). Bathroom is clean and very convenient. Colville itself has an excellent coffee shop (Big Al's), excellent Italian restaurant (Tony's Ristorante at the north end of town near Walmart.) There are 3 markets - walmart, super foods, and safeway. Super foods has the best meat/fresh produce section along with lots of bulk foods. There is a bicycle shop with a very helpful owner and a les schwab where you can get any kind of tire work done (including pressure/torque check). Colville is 10 minutes from Kettle Falls which has a national recreation area for camping/lake access. There are many other access points just N and S of kettle falls along Washington - 25. Colville is about 40 miles from Rossland, BC which has a 24 hour border station.

Winona Beach Resort, Valley, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older facility, its been here since 1925! The spaces are not necessarily built for some of the beheamoth's people drive or two these days. That said, my 35 ft 5er fit just fine and I saw some 37 ft Motorhomes get in just fine. When they say "waterfront campsites", they're NOT kidding. The back of my 5er was about 10 ft from the water and I could have put it closer if I wanted. That site was a back-in, but they also have some pull-thru's and some seasonal sites away from the water. The entire place has a "community" feel to it. It kind of reminded me of a '60's cabana club! Full hookups ARE available for lakefront - this is unusual - and they did it by putting the hookups at the far front of your site. You may need an extender for your sewer hose, but your water and electric should be just fine. (I was with my factory supplied electric cord and a 50 ft water hose (didn't need anywhere near that.) You're in paradise, 10 miles from the nearest real town (Chewela - with a GREAT mex restaurant and a Safeway), but somehow Verizon STILL manages a good 4G signal. Waterfront sites ARE narrow and only separated by a line from the next - so... get to know your neighbor - its worth it! We camped at Winona Beach Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
