About americanrascal

RVing for over 35 years in the 8 RV's of various types we've owned. We've traveled almost every state in the Union and most provinces in Canada. We have a legitimate excuse for not RVing to Hawaii (road issue). But for some reason we have not visited the great state of Wisconsin. I have no idea why?

Twin Oaks RV Park, Elko, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

An outstanding RV park. Nice sites, decent spacing, very well maintained. Great location for those traveling along I-75. Very easy access off I-75- and staff guides you to your site BEFORE you check in which was very pleasurable and welcomed. The rally facilities (club house , recreation facilities) are excellent. Staff hospitality is terrific. Sites were gravel, and generally level. Trees seemed recently pruned to provide shade yet to keep limbs from damaging RV's- well done. All in all a great RV camping experience. We camped at Twin Oaks RV Park in a Motorhome.

Checotah / Lake Eufaula West KOA, Checotah, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

A pleasing overnight stop for us that we have used once before in the past 5 years. We had a spacious pull through FHU site. Easy check in and maneuverability around the RV park. Very quiet site adjacent to interstate but also adjacent to a large lake. A f=great stopping point along I-40 that we will likely visit again. We camped at Checotah / Lake Eufaula West KOA in a Motorhome.

Tucumcari KOA, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We opted for one of the new FHU concrete pull throughs at the rear. There is not grass yet as the construction is new but it was well and properly developed. Wonderful staff who helped us to the site. Great place to stop along I-40/ We will definitely stay here again if passing through the area. We camped at Tucumcari KOA in a Motorhome.

Trailer Village RV Park (Concessionnaire Operated), Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

A nicely developed and well maintained RV park with paved roads and sites considering its high use. Sites appear level but have some hidden slope that requires some leveling. Being able to get in to this park and camp here is a treat as it provides so many opportunities to access this great park. We did not have ATT cell service and could only get WIFI at the nearby lodge. One somewhat comical but minor issue is they ask you not to leave your sewer hose connected and to connect only when needed as the Ravens (?blackbirds?) like to attack and destroy them and all food sources in the park!!We definitely will stay here again if we have the opportunity. We camped at Trailer Village RV Park (Concessionnaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Quality Inn & RV Park, Tuba City, Arizona

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was not level and the hookups are at the rear making connection difficult with several sewer extensions. Water requires a key and deposit (refundable but a hassle). Staff was courteous. No wifi except in nearby hotel. Park was quiet and seemed secure at night. No ATT cell service. Gravel / dirt dusty site. Seems to be best (or only) available RV park in the immediate area so we used this park. We will only revisit this park if necessary . Had to disconnect car from motorhome to fit on site. We camped at Quality Inn & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park, Mancos, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Great location for Mesa Verde NP! Variety of sites. Some very level, other a bit more of a challenge. Some of the sites are a bit close to each other. Staff was extremely helpful. Great value for a campground immediately adjacent to the entrance to a National Park. Lots of effort going into making the place look sharp! If ever in the area we will definitely use this park again!! We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Motorhome.

Travelers World Campground, Clovis, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

A great RV Park in Clovis, Well maintained, organized and helpful staff. While its close to train tracks they were not an issue and there was no noise that we encountered. Also while adjacent to highway noise was not an issue from it either. We did notice more noise during the afternoon hours from low flying Air Force planes from the adjacent Air Force base, but they made it interesting. No noise at night from the Air Base though. We camped at Travelers World Campground in a Motorhome.

Austin Lone Star RV Resort, Austin, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Austin Lone Star is a well laid out RV park. Great staff! Pull through and graveled sites are of adequate length and we found them to be pleasingly wide, level, and well maintained. The new bath house and laundry are very nicely done .It's a bit tough getting into the park due to construction along the frontage road and I-35-dirty and very bumpy. They have a nice Astroturf dog park. Park map showed a playground but we could not find one here. We were very concerned about security at this park. At times (Sunday afternoons and after the office was closed) we noticed what appeared to be non -residents who accessed security gates coming in from elsewhere to use the pool--- some were a bit rowdy. One morning I awoke to go outside before sunrise and found a strange car parked next to our rig with the occupant asleep. Before I could return to the rig, the car and occupant sped off and departed. Not what one would expect in a Sun RV resort? Most disappointing were several deteriorating and poorly maintained sites with junky looking permanent or long term RV's. These sites made us think we were in a failing trailer park and not a Sun RV Resort. They have installed new park models in the rear which were very attractive- some of the best I have seen. We noticed a few sites that were recently paved with concrete and they looked great. It would be wonderful if Sun continued to expand the concrete pad improvement throughout the park. No cable but lots of off air channels. WiFi is average. We like staying with Sun RV parks and this park is well located for us, but we worry if the park is going to ignore deteriorating maintenance around long term sites. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Hidden Pines Campground, Egan, Louisiana

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

A real hidden gem of an RV Park. Relatively new (or being rebuilt) and well maintained. It's close to the interstate but about a mile off the road so watch for the signs. The water park is absolutely beautiful and laid out for all ages. The park is well maintained. Owner/staff is so very helpful and concerned about making your stay great. The park seems to still be in development. Some sites have some slope/ leveling issues some are just fine. Traveling I-10 you won't want to miss this park. Great value. We camped at Hidden Pines Campground in a Motorhome.

Reunion Lake RV Resort, Ponchatoula, Louisiana

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

Well designed and well built park! Easy on and off interstate but no noise from roadway. The waterpark is absolutely awesome and makes this an spectacular resort. We were a bit surprised and disappointed the cable TV and WIFI were basically dysfunctional, and we were wondering why the grass was so high and not mowed. No shade available due to the newness of the park. For the rate offered they should have been working and available. Would have rated a 10 if not for those failures. I'm not a fan of wearing irritating wristbands to use the amenities but I'll get over it. Overall this has the potential to be one of the finest RV Parks in the U.S. We camped at Reunion Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Cloudland Canyon State Park, Rising Fawn, Georgia

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We were very disappointed in the quality of the West Rim Campground. The site 24 was very narrow and difficult to get into. The condition of the roads is terrible with the shoulders washed out in the CG. We watched several RVs literally fall off the asphalt in front of our site and into the ditch who then struggled to get out. Shoulders are not maintained. Only a very few sites had 50 amp service. I would not rate this CG as big rig friendly. We don't rate this campground as clean because the sites are in deteriorating condition with very little gravel on the sites. However, the park itself is a spectacular park with awesome trails and magnificent vistas showcasing the beauty given to it by nature. We will not camp here again unless the entire campground is rehabilitated. The site was long enough but had a curve accessing the site. It was so narrow we could not sit adjacent to the motorhome as the slides on both sites were next to rails. Photos on the reservation site do not adequately represent the site. East rim Campground is in much better condition but the sites are small. The trails are fantastic as are the views from the upper rim of the canyon. We camped at Cloudland Canyon State Park in a Motorhome.

Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort, Charlotte, North Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park we'll use again with relatively easy access. Campground shows some wear as turf is in bad shape. Lots of exposed dirt around sites. Asphalt site was slightly unlevel front to back. Aircraft noise during daylight and early evening was very loud due to low flying jets on approach to airport. All that said it was a decent RV Park. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Motorhome.

Pohick Bay Regional Park, Lorton, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are gravel and many were grossly unlevel so be careful selecting a site. We were lucky and ours was level. Limited FHU sites available for big rigs. If you like woodsy state parks then this is a good one just outside DC. Very nice playground and commons area in center of park. Many nearby amenities. Our site was left trashy by the previous user which may have been a one time event, but we never saw any clean up activities between different site users. Good location for south side and downtown DC. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Shenandoah Valley Campground, Mount Jackson, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice RV park, close to Interstate 81, but a few easy turns to get to the park. Well maintained, gravel sites that are level. Nice dog park large dogs - not so good for small dogs as our Yorkie could crawl under fence. Kids loved the playground toys. Great overnight stop and for a longer visit to area. Wonderful recreational/play areas for youngsters, very nice dog parks. Close to interstate but far enough to avoid any noise. Nice long pull through sites (a wee bit off level as the CG is hilly). Access to campground is on a curve so be careful. All in all an excellent campground! We camped at Sweetwater / I-75 / Exit 62 KOA in a Motorhome.
