Mountain View RV Resort, Canon City, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Disappointed given the rave reviews this park gets. The people are very friendly and helpful, and the views are great. The sites are very clean, with nice concrete pads with tables. The highway noise is a factor depending on wind, as is the smell from the horses next door (although the neighbors do a fantastic job of keeping their area clean). Neighbors to the west target shooting. The RV next to us has 4 dogs. The washers and dryers in the laundry are very old, but worked okay, 2 dryers out of order. WiFi was good, when it worked. We were frequently disconnected. No cable TV, or over-the-air TV. Too expensive for what you get. We camped at Mountain View RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Cave Country RV Campground, Cave City, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice RV park, conveniently located to Mammoth Caves National Park. Nice sites with full hookups. Daily trash pickup, cable TV and free WiFi. It is close to a RR track, and trains go by a couple of times a night. We camped at Cave Country RV Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Cades Cove Campground (NPS Campground), Townsend, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is a crowded National Park campground. Sites close together, in wooded area. Our Site #C-74 was difficult to back in to as it is at a 90 degree angle to the road. Also, our site strangely had the fire pit and picnic table on the wrong side of the spur. The C loop is generator free. Campground is very quite after 10 pm. Pay attention to the rules about leaving out food. Our neighbors didn't, and we had a bear visit at 2:30 a.m. Not a big rig friendly campground, and the road into the park is narrow and winding. We camped at Cades Cove Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Cades Cove drive was very crowded, bumper to bumper cars at 5 miles an hour around the entire 11 mile loop. During the summer, they close it to vehicular traffic on Wed/Sat mornings until 10 a.m. allowing for a peaceful bike ride or hike. The Abrams Falls hike was nice. The Alum Cave/LeConte Mountain hike is spectacular.

DeSoto State Park, Fort Payne, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice state park. Our site #86 had full hookups, and was very close to the laundry and bathrooms. We also had excellent free WiFi and cable TV in that site. Level and shaded. We camped at DeSoto State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit to DeSoto falls is a must. Rent a kayak and paddle up the Little River. It was beautiful in May, the mountain laurel, honeysuckle and rhododendrons were in full bloom. A visit to the small town of Mentone was interesting. Also visited the LIttle River Canyon National Preserve.

Oak Mountain State Park, Pelham, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful state park. A lot of amenities. The bathrooms were dated, and somewhat clean. Trail from our site down to the lake. Many swimming areas, with kayak and canoe rentals. A lot of hiking trails. Very close to Birmingham, although you can't tell. Very peaceful. Unfortunately, our site had a bunch of ants that ended up getting into our trailer. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham is a must see. Beautiful park next to it, and across the street from the 16th Street Baptist Church. Shopping at Publix and Walmart not far.

Perdido Key RV Resort & Marina, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

Nice RV park, but we thought it was expensive. Our site was very long, but our slideout hung over the neighbor's patio. Sites close together. Pool is small. Laundry was clean. Small beach area on the inland waterway with chairs and shelter. No access to the Gulf, but short drive to Perdido Key SP beaches. Noisy, as it is under the bridge and traffic is constant. Close to numerous restaurants and beaches, as well as the Naval museum in Pensacola. We watched the Blue Angels practice while kayaking in the state park. We camped at Perdido Key RV Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.

Natchez State Park, Natchez, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground, long and fairly level asphalt sites. We had water and electric hookup only. There is a dump station. Heavily wooded all around the campsites. Some sites have wooded path to the lake. Some bugs. The lake is beautiful, looks like very good fishing. Short drive into Natchez for sightseeing. Our site was very muddy from recent rain if you stepped off the asphalt spur. Go to the Visitor's Center first to get an idea of what to do. Many tours of the antebellum mansions are available, as well as a National Park with interesting exhibits and information. Driving the Natchez Trace parkway is beautiful. Access to the Trace is very close to the campground. The restaurant Roux 66 is close and VERY good. We camped at Natchez State Park in a Travel Trailer.

San Luis Pass County Park, Freeport, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground on the bay. Sites are very close together. Beach is very close. No swimming is allowed. Big fishing area. 20 minute drive into Galveston beach area across a toll bridge, so a $10 trip both ways. No close shopping so bring what you need. Very peaceful, a lot of birds and fishermen on the beach. We camped at San Luis Pass County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Malaquite Campground, Corpus Christi, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

First come, first serve. The sites on the ocean side were grassy with a picnic table and small shelter. Beautiful views out a rear or side window. Can be windy there. Minutes walk to the beach. The sites away from the ocean are basically in a paved parking lot. We arrived during the week and had no problem finding a site. Our TT is 31 ft. Saw motorhomes & 5th wheels larger than us. There is a dump station with fresh water. You do get a bit of salt spray, especially if it is windy. We camped at Malaquite Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Denali Rainbow Village & RV Park (Privately Owned), Denali National Park, Alaska

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Terrible place to stay. Just a gravel/mud parking lot, behind a strip mall of shops. Rental units which border the campground were full of young kids who partied all night long. Very noisy. Do not stay here. Nice, quieter place about 5 or so miles down the road, and it is cheaper! We camped at Denali Rainbow Village & RV Park (Privately Owned) in a Fifth Wheel.

Sourdough Campground, Tok, Alaska

Date of Stay: June, 2012 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Not our favorite place. The sites are not even close to level. Roads are muddy with big puddles. The showers are musty and the bathrooms are not clean. The sourdough pancake breakfast was okay. Not what we expected. We camped at Sourdough Campground in a Truck Camper.
