Harrisburg East Campground, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely, clean, well-managed, conveniently located campground. Excellent signage! Nice and well-organized folks in the office. We saw some sites that required minor leveling but our site (505) was level and well away from I-283, very little highway noise and only a few airplanes in the mornings. Electricity and water supplies were fine, good wi-fi, about two dozen cable channels. Verizon service was excellent. Swimming pool, laundry and bathrooms clean. We recommend. We camped at Harrisburg East Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Tour the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building, less than 7 miles away. It is one of the most beautiful of the U.S. state capitol buildings, opulent and reflective of Pennsylvania's role in our rich history. Less than 6 miles away is the National Civil War Museum presents as balanced a view of the forces leading up our country's greatest tragedy as I've ever seen and is often the seen of re-enactors and encampments.

Hotel RV, West Alexander, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is new, primarily built to provide temporary housing for oil and gas workers but will take short-time travelers. Sites are short and close, many require levelers. Electricity was good, water pressure low. No cable or OTA channels. Verizon cell phones worked well. Longer term residents were friendly, tidy and quiet. We were in one of the sites on the lowest row, practically hanging over I-70. Road noise was a problem for me, even with my normally perfect sound machine. No onsite office, reservations are handled over the phone with a leasing agent. We camped at Hotel RV in a Motorhome.

Glo Wood Campground, Pendleton, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Clean, quiet, comfortable park managed by lovely folks. Sites are level, good electric and water pressure. No bathrooms or shower facilities, you must be self-contained. We had a little trouble finding the correct driveway: look down the two driveways just before the actual park road to avoid turning your rig into the dead-end of someone's private home and swimming pool. (The park does not have a swimming pool.) The Glowood sign is - behind, and mostly obscured by, the bed of tall, blooming flowers - down that third driveway. Drive slowly and find that sign before you turn in. The owner is very nice - and so is the lady who owns the house with the swimming pool next door. "It happens all the time", she said as she helped us unhitch to back out. We camped at Glo Wood Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Conner Prairie in nearby Fishers, Indiana is a Smithsonian Affiliated living history museum. Pricy but fabulous! The Civil War village has and animatronic cast and special effects that are so real as to startle young and old. There is a tethered hot air balloon ride that reminds us that such equipment was used as early as the Civil War. The side-by-side Indiana and white settler village was hands-on and captivates children.

Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park, Vandalia, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Cute, quiet, clean and comfortable. Sites are all pull-thrus (drive in on the grassy lane in front of the cornfield behind your site and then pull thru towards the road.) Sites were level, electricity and water good. No cable or OTA channels but Verizon worked adequately. No bathrooms or shower facilities, you must be self-contained. There is a laundry across the street. Check in at the hardware store across the street. Nice folks there will give you tokens to feed to the dragon. We will stay there again. We camped at Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park in a Motorhome.

RV Express RV Park, Marshfield, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Well-managed, clean and comfortable park. Office lady is charming and well organized. Swimming pool was pristine and wonderful. Bathrooms and showers were immaculate. Well equipped laundry room with reasonable rates. Our site was right next to the highway but my sound machine soothed out the occasional truck-roar. Electricity and water pressure are excellent. Verizon coverage is excellent. We received a dozen or more OTA television channels. Three restaurants within walking distance. (But not McDonalds - there is NO McDonald's at the base of that huge McDonald's road sign overhead We camped at RV Express RV Park in a Motorhome.

Oak Glen RV & Mobile Home Park, Chandler, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Clean, quiet, well-managed park. Popular with overnighters. Overnight sites are pull thrus, on the left, near the front of the park. Those sites are a little snug if everyone has slides out, but are level with good electricity and water pressure. If you arrive after the office closes, go into the door to the right of the office, it is a common area with registration papers, site rates and a drop box for payment. There's a laundry area in there also and it was clean and reasonably priced. Verizon coverage was adequate. We didn't turn on the television. We will stay here again if we are in this area. We camped at Oak Glen RV & Mobile Home Park in a Motorhome.

Rei Lakes, Springfield, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely setting but the campground needs management attention and signage. (Luckily, their neighbors are used to giving RVer's directions on how to find the park and to the manager's 5th wheel to pay.) The trees inside the campground have not been trimmed for years, and have grown far enough into the narrow road inside the campground to whack air conditioners and mirrors. Rate is $42 a night, cash or check only. As other reviewers have written, the owner/manager is disorganized; sites are neither reserved nor assigned. The site we had been directed to was occupied by another rig. Our rig blocked traffic while I hiked back to the 5th wheel in site #6 and knocked on the door. The owner/manager responded with a vague hand wave and a "well, then go over there" before closing the door in my face. Water pressure was occasionally low but Verizon and electric service were fine. No cable or OTA television channels. No restrooms, showers or laundry. The campground was quiet the three nights we were there, but we left on Thursday as to avoid the weekend crowd. The long-term residents were very nice to us, their sites were tidy and cared for, and they cleaned up after their dogs. The morning we were hitching up two unleashed dogs trotted thru the campground and the biggest one took its dump near the door of the trailer across from us and trotted away. The country road leading into the campground was a little narrow but well-kept and no problem for our rig. Site #33 is level, but only if you park in part of the site in front of it. (Hubby thinks Site #33 used to be two short, back-in, sites.) The Air Force Museum is wonderful but we will try another campground if we return to the area. We camped at Rei Lakes in a Motorhome.

Opelousas South City Park, Opelousas, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

This campground was a find...and we had trouble finding the camp sites! The park is easy to get to, tidy, safe and quiet. There are at least two (perhaps more) different camping areas, both with water and 30/50-amp electric service for $11 a day. There are no signs directing you to the campgrounds and no park map. The electric and water "posts" are only 2 feet or so high and they blend into a low barrier wire and plantings. The two campgrounds we found were a graveled and packed dirt parking lot to the right just inside the park gates and, further back in the park, there is a larger grass meadow with concrete slabs with electric and water posts with mostly back in sites. Because of a chance of rain, we wanted to park in the parking lot as a pull thru but missed the campground/parking lot on the way in. So....I took photos, added annotation to them and uploaded them here for you so you know what to look for and where. No one came to collect the $11 so I hiked over to the park office the next morning to pay. We will definitely stay there again when traveling thru the area. We camped at Opelousas South City Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Louisiana Orphan Train Museum is poignant and educational. I'd heard the stories in the Midwest (and the National Orphan Train Museum is in Kansas) but didn't know the children were also shipped south. The folks of Opelousas are to be commended for this touching presentation of history.

Mazalea Campground & RV Park, Biloxi, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Best buy in Biloxi! Lovely, quiet, clean, well-managed RV park. The interior roads are narrow but the trees are well trimmed and folks are understanding. Offices ladies are sweet and helpful. The campground store has most things you need at fair prices. Utilities, including wifi, were excellent. Our concrete pad was a little off-level side-to-side, but we can handle that. If the tall trees block your satellite, there are dozens of channels on the park's cable. We will DEFINITELY stay there anytime we are in the area. In March, their azaleas are coming into bloom and they are spectacular. We camped at Mazalea Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Deerwood Inn Madison Campground, Madison, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely, well-managed campground located behind a motel. Sites are long and level, grass with tall trees providing lots of shade. Utilities were fine. Office lady is helpful and charming. Convenient to I-10 but road noise was not a problem. Wifi slowed as more guests logged on, but was adequate. Two dozen or more OTA channels. We will stay there again on our way through Florida. We camped at Deerwood Inn Madison Campground in a Motorhome.

Paradise Park Condominium Association (55+), Punta Gorda, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Paradise Park is a clean, quiet, well-managed, 55+, land-owned, condominium community with activities and amenities, including a 9-hole golf course and small lake. Because of their bylaws, only Airstreams or Class A's are allowed. There are about two dozen sites available for rental and we spent six weeks there. Our site had a nice tool shed that had full hookups, including a washer and dryer. Neighbors are very nice and, on Friday mornings, locals run a small farm stand up at the gate. Wonderful campground! We camped at Paradise Park Condominium Association (55+) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit Manatee Park in Fort Meyers...not a "fancy" theme park or zoo...it is a small protected body of water maintained by Florida Power & Light for the outflow of the warmed cooling water of their power plant next door. The best time to go is in the winter, in the morning (so sun is behind the viewer). Like retirees, Manatees go there in cold months to spend the winter.

Tanbark Campground, Dickson, Tennessee

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely park, clean, quiet, well-managed and maintained. Electricity and water pressure are excellent. Verizon coverage is excellent, sites are shaded by well-trimmed, mature trees (trees which may require you to "space" your slides) but we received a dozen or more OTA television channels. The entrance to the campground is in a deep curve; you might want to time your entrance and exit. Nice folks live and work here. We were in for an over-night and will stay here again when in the area. We camped at Tanbark Campground in a Motorhome.

Ouachita RV Park, Monroe, Louisiana

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

As others have written, this is a good park: clean, well-managed and maintained. For the most part, it is quiet (hidden by the trees, there is a shooting range nearby and that can be disconcerting at this time in America). The office folks are organized, cheerful and helpful. Two trees, each near the first turns of the entrance and exit, need small, lowest limbs taken off (their leaves brushed our air-conditioner), otherwise, I'd have rated the park a "10". The only tricky part has nothing to do with park management: it is getting to the actual access road on that side of I-20 and not turning too soon and getting forced back onto I-20. Only Exit 120 will work (because there is a bridge out on the access road before the next exit.) The access road, called "Frontage Road", is the next road AFTER the onramp that will force you to get back onto east bound I-20. Go past the first ramp - to the stop light - and then turn left at the light. (The frontage road/access road runs in front of the Hampton Inn hotel.) Nice campground; we will stay there again. We camped at Ouachita RV Park in a Motorhome.

Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA, Bernalillo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Quiet, well-managed park with level sites, clean bathrooms, good electricity, cable and Wi-Fi. There are few trees and the patios have artificial turf but this is customary in high-desert country. We found one fault: the dump station is immediately adjacent to the children's playground - immediately adjacent (on the fence line); AND the dump station is slightly uphill so spilled fluids might run or be washed into the playground. We camped at Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Not only is the Kaktus Brewing Company next door, there is a gate in the fence between the KOA and the brewery! (Look for the "BEER" sign and follow the arrows around the back of the brewery.) Food at the brewery was excellent: salads and sandwiches in addition to pizza and customary bar food. The brewery has two outdoor patios, both are comfortable.
