Mystic Hills Hideaway, Deadwood, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

First off, if coming from the south take the first entrance which is .3 miles before the entrance that the GPS directs you to. That entrance will require a very sharp U turn if coming from the south. Friendly people and staff and all were very helpful. We chose this park after a recommendation from a friend on where to stay and rent ATVs for exploring and riding in the National Forest around Deadwood. The positive: Far from the main road, so should be quiet (but it isn't, see below). Friendly staff and a restaurant/bar Cabins and plenty of RV sites available. ATVs can be rented from here and prices are reasonable. They are kept up very well mechanically and cleaned after each use. Our site was plenty long, but very close to large trees and it took quite a bit of back and forth to find a position within the site where we could open our slides. The negative: The sites are quite close together with large trees on each side of site. Finding a position within the site for extending slides and for leveling can be a challenge. Pulling out, especially if you are 35' or longer is not easy. Our traveling companions struggled in parking their 42' fifth wheel and could not pull out of their site; they had to back out, which would have been very difficult if the sites across from them were occupied. Lots of ATVing families here. Which means you have children playing and making noise and many of them played in the streets. ATVs come and go all day and until dark and sometimes after. People were mindful of the little ones and they were watched after by their parents; it's nice to see families having fun together. But, it wasn't quiet. Also, it's summer and time for family vacations which we were parked near four families with little ones. Not a bad thing, just something to be aware of. We camped at Mystic Hills Hideaway in a Fifth Wheel.

Custer's Gulch RV Park, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We had a pull through site and it was fairly easy to navigate and set up. Staff was friendly. I think the rate is a bit high but it seems to be the case near many of the more popular NPs or tourist areas. We were quite close to Custer State Park and the Needles Highway. We enjoyed our time there and it's close proximity to Custer for restaurants and other activities. We would stay there again if in the area. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Very close to Custer State Park - you have to drive through the park to reach this campground. Make sure you don't make a wrong turn and drive the Needles Highway while towing your fifth wheel. We took our dually on the Needles and made it through the tunnels (width wise) but it was super close with just inches to spare. Had good bison burgers in Custer and there are decent choices for eating out.

New Frontier RV Park & Campground, Presho, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is an okay stop for an overnight along our route west. We would stop again. It started pouring right as we were checking in and it poured nonstop, so we had to set up in the down pour. The site was long enough and wide enough for our slides. It's not what I would call a destination location but fine for overnight. We camped at New Frontier RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

OK RV Park, Holbrook, Arizona

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a convenient park to visit the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest. Easy short drive to downtown Holbrook for groceries, eating, or visiting shops. This campground has many long term or permanent residents with many of the sites looking extremely old and not well kept. Gravel and dirt which is to be expected in the SW. Many people have dogs, but no one seemed to pick up after their dogs except me and our traveling companions who also have dogs. We were warned to not walk by the yellow row as there is a permanent resident to hates dogs and will come out and yell at you if you walk that direction. Hook ups were sufficient and sites were wide enough and long enough for our 35' fifth wheel and truck. There is a decent Mexican restaurant across the street from the entrance. We camped at OK RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Evergreen Inn Motel & RV Park, Pratt, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We weren't impressed on check in as the young man who checked us in wasn't very helpful or personable. The sites were pull through but not very long. We fit but barely. There was no shade and it is basically a gravel parking lot. It's ok for an overnight. I would probably check around for another campground if going through this general area, but again it's ok for just an overnight, but a bit on the expensive side for what you get. We camped at The Evergreen Inn Motel & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Outlet (Melvern) COE, Melvern, Kansas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful site along the lake. Small gravel walk way along the lake, nice, except for all the goose poo. Nicely maintained and friendly host. Very spacious site. We had a pull through, but many of the pull throughs we observed seemed quite short and more curved than necessary. Even so, it was easy in and out and the site was very level on black top. We loved our site and would definitely stay again and preferably longer if traveling through the area. Only complaint is all the biting gnats, but not a lot can be done about that. Just the type of weather and conditions that give you those little bugs. Sunset was beautiful across the lake. It was a nice peaceful stop. No traffic noise and overall a very quiet campground. We camped at Outlet (Melvern) COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Corral Drive-In RV Park, Guymon, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second visit to this campground. The first time was the first year they were open. This is a very well kept up campground and very clean. Pull throughs were plenty long and wide enough that you did not feel too close to your neighbor. Green grassy area outside your door. Trash cans everywhere for convenience. Owners are friendly, pleasant and helpful. Some longer term RVs, but everything was well kept and clean. Love the idea of watching drive-in movies on the weekends. Would like to time our next visit for a weekend! This is a great place to stop over and relax for a day or two. Not a lot to do in the area, but Guymon has the basics. We will definitely stop again on our way through the area. We camped at Corral Drive-In RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sky City RV Park, Acoma, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Large gravel parking area, but sites are plenty wide and long pull throughs. There is a shuttle to the casino, but it isn't a very long walk. We went over to eat dinner at the casino and even though there appeared to be open tables we had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated. Waitress was prompted and friendly and gave good service. Food was okay; husband had the buffet and rated it a 5 out of 10. The other three of us had a meal off the menu; they weren't bad, but not great. For the price I wouldn't probably eat there again. Lots of locals were eating there. The prime rib which was the offering for the night was either well done or barely cooked, extremely rare, bloody. Though the campground is right off the interstate the traffic noise was not noticeable which was a pleasant surprise. This was an easy in and out for an overnight stop with good pricing. $19 plus tax with the GS discount. For full hookups this was reasonable in my book. We would stay here again when traveling along I-40. Sites were level. We camped at Sky City RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated), Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We had an end site with a large treed area on our driver's side which offered nice shade for a good portion of the day. Our site was barely long enough and we are only 35', but we did fit. We had to park our truck cross ways in front of the fifth wheel, which is what everyone else was doing also. Some of the longer fifth wheels and motor homes were sticking out a bit past the end of their sites. Sites were close but not so close you felt like you were setting on top of your neighbor. But not so spacious that it was convenient and pleasant for sitting outside, but many did. We also saw that quite a few people started fires even though the fire warning was high. No rangers came around and monitored though so nothing was done. This was a good area for the convenience to walking to the shuttle or driving to the rim drive. We did find it a nice area to walk our dogs and people did seem to pick up after them and sites were kept clean. We felt the cost was reasonable for the proximity to GC Village and the South rim walk. We would definitely stay here again if we return to the Grand Canyon. We camped at Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Numerous elk frequent the park in the evenings or early morning. Twice we came out our door to come very close to elk grazing next to our fifth wheel. Ravens are everywhere and they tell you not to leave your sewer hose down as the ravens will peck holes in it. They are huge birds and quite curious.

Ute Lake State Park, Logan, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This was a one night stop over on our way further west. Campsite overlooked Ute Lake and maneuvering was easy. We had a pull through site and it was plenty long for our fifth wheel (35') and our truck. There is a small covered patio for the picnic table. Sites were a decent width so you don't feel you are sitting on top of your neighbor, but still not spacious. The horrible part is all the stickers that attach themselves to your poor dog's feet and coat. Everytime they went outdoors they were covered and could hardly walk without stopping and whining to have a sticker removed from their paw. If you don't have dogs you probably won't be bothered. Lot of people pulling in with boats for fishing. Camp host was friendly. We camped at Ute Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Eagle Ridge RV Park, Eagleville, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is the second time we have stayed at this park. The first time was with our Airstream and this last time was with our fifth wheel. Both times we found the owners, who live on site to be friendly, accommodating and professional. First, when we checked in we reminded them that we were traveling with my brother and he would be checking in a bit later. They decided to move us to different sites then previously assigned so we could be next to each other. When we moved to the new site, the trees were touching the top of the fifth wheel. The owner immediately got up and trimmed all the branches on the tree so nothing was even close to touching. They led us to our site and gave good directions for lining up within the site, though it was a pull through and very easy. But, the fact they do this with each customer is helpful especially for someone new to RVing. The campground is next to a road but after we went in for bed we didn't even notice it. The campground is out in the country, but not too far off of I-35. It's easy to get to and maneuver. There were a few longer term RVers, obviously workers from construction, but all sites were kept up neatly and barely noticeable except for their work trucks. We camped at Eagle Ridge RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

North Abutment COE, Grenada, Mississippi

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is a spacious and well maintained COE campground. We were the only RV in our loop. Same situation in another loop, the third loop and 4 RVs. Many sites are extremely long and roomy with great spacing between sites. Not much to do here, though the lake is supposed to have great fishing but at this time it was down 20 feet, which we heard is normal. We would definitely stay here again. Bobcat Creek RV Park, LLC, Sayre, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Small park off the interstate a ways that you do not hear traffic. Owners live on site and were very nice and helpful when we called to see if they had availability. A short but steep turn in but really no problem. Kept up nicely and sites are nicely spaced, not spacious but definitely not tight. Pull throughs with full hook ups. Small laundry room. They have a mail box at each site for marking but you can also receive mail here if you stay for a few weeks or a month which some do. Mowed and kept well, so walking dogs along the lane to the camp was nice. We would definitely stay here again when traveling along I-40. We camped at Bobcat Creek RV Park, LLC in a Fifth Wheel.

Very tight gravel parking lot with some long term users. We pulled in late and left early. Sites were very close together, really no separation at all, just enough to walk between and hook up to the utilities. Loud trains and road noise. Probably would not stay here again, but it worked and we had full hookups. Definitely not a destination place. We camped at Bar S RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
