Brookhollow RV Park, Kelso, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Seventeen years ago, we spent the Fourth of July at this park. I correctly remembered it as a quiet, beautiful, urban facility that gave the impression of being out in the country. Our Class A then was smaller than our new midsize fifth wheel. A park of this vintage was not designed for the multiple slide, bigger rigs of today. They asked that our rig not extend over the grass (which is watered regularly) of our back in site. Our F350 crew cab short bed wouldn't fit so we had to park it opposite the row of sites in front of us. Not a big deal for me, but it might be for some. The new resorts we gravitate towards lack the generous space between sites Brookhaven offers. I'll gladly walk 30 yards to my tow vehicle to have a site where I can fully extend my awnings. We used the park as a home base to visit Mt. St. Helens & explore the area in general. It won't be another 17 years before we return. We camped at Brookhollow RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Phoenix RV Park, Salem, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We needed a nice park while visiting the state capital. This turned out to be a great choice. I was a bit concerned once off the freeway (coming from the south) about so many signs in a language I do not understand. The urban park offers spacious, beautifully landscaped sites. We were quite pleased with our 2 day stay here. We camped at Phoenix RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Seven Feathers RV Resort, Canyonville, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

The only complaint I have about this absolutely gorgeous resort is the location of the sewer & power right next to the permanent picnic table & patio. Perfect? No. But this park is about as close as any I've visited. We camped at Seven Feathers RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Crater Lake RV Park (AKA Prospect RV Park), Prospect, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I have been wanting to stay here since reading a review criticizing the park for making an unruly visitor leave. That was 5 years ago. We had to cancel our reservation due to area fires that September. Well, we finally made it. This is my kinda park. FHU's but with a public campground feel. (One of the many things our home state to the south is derelict in.) My wife was not as impressed. She lives for social media. No internet access was available from our site. We did find spots (like near the lodge at Crater Lake) to download emails, etc. It's a very pleasant drive to Crater Lake from the resort, with most of the drive being within the park's boundaries before reaching the actual tourist destination. Having visited the volcano numerous times, we actually enjoyed exploring the local area more. Great pie to the north. Great pizza pie in town just across the main road. My kinda place! We camped at Crater Lake RV Park (AKA Prospect RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

JGW RV Park, Redding, California

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

I've wanted to stay here since it was built. With my wife's parents living in Redding, another very nice park was just more convenient. This trip we were headed north, stopping only overnight to visit their final resting place at the nearby Northern California Veterans' Cemetery. This park is nicer than I hoped it might be. It does have some unusual pull through setups that look to have side by side hookups. They do appear to have been thoughtfully landscaped. We were fortunate enough to have one 'down by the river'. And it was a bargain at the slight premium price it commanded. This park, at least at these sites, can stand it's own against the 2 very nice resorts to the north in Redding & to the south in Red Bluff. We camped at JGW RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Vineyard RV Park, Vacaville, California

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

Vineyard RV With family in the area, this was our third visit in the last year. Our back in-site was in the older section right across from the office. Hook-ups were at the very back of the site requiring 2 links of fresh water hoses & 2 links of sewer hose. The site was level gravel. Neighbors were so close that none of us could fully extend our awnings, but awnings on these newer fivers often extend out quite a ways. We made 3 phone calls before finding an employee who could find us a site for our entire 5 day visit. (This also happened with our neighbor. They were told things change due to cancellations.). In our previous 2 visits we were lucky enough to get into the newer long term section. It's much nicer. (The grapevines along the back of the site were quite nice, however.). Given the parks location to the Bay Area, we were quite pleased even with this less desirable site. It was quite & safe. That's primarily what we are looking for. We camped at Vineyard RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Flag City RV Resort, Lodi, California

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We've stayed at this park many times since it's opening. What has really hurt it in the past was its traffic intolerant ground cover landscaping. Over the years, it gotten progressively uglier. It's been replaced with rocks. And it rocks! This simple facelift, makes this park one of the very best along the north/south California freeway system. We camped at Flag City RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bakersfield River Run RV Park, Bakersfield, California

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

As I've reviewed before, Bakersfield has a surprising number of really nice RV parks. We usually stay here because of the onsite restaurant. I'm concerned that we arrived to find the pool closed. We were also told that a couple of the cable TV stations were down. Neither of these affected us, but we found it quite surprising at a park of this level. Sure hope this isn't an indication of a lack of keeping the facility up to the standards we've really come to appreciate. We camped at Bakersfield River Run RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Durango RV Resort, Red Bluff, California

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

I consider this to be the best RV resorts in the state. This visit, we opted for one of their best sites - waterfront. We waited until we arrived (midweek) to handpick the site. Because both towables & motorhomes can be intermixed, we did not want our 'living space' to open our neighbor's. The perfect end site was available. First problem is that the hookups in these sites are not well situated for motorhomes. It required a minimum of 2 lengths of sewer hose to get our 37' Class A in far enough to fit our C-RV into the site. The concrete pad did not appear as sloped as it truly is. We carry 2 sets of the yellow "LEGO's". Even after a trip to the local WalMart for a third, I could not get the front of the coach elevated sufficiently. A 43' DSDP next to us had used about that amount successfully. The office graciously reassigned us to a very nice pull-thru as we've always used before. We were very disappointed that the premium site wouldn't work for our rig, but our visit was still, as always, just wonderful. Purchasing propane here is tricky. We were successful only due to the help of a wonderful gentleman who guided us in. We camped at Durango RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Midway RV Park, Vacaville, California

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $72.00
Overall Rating:

Location, location, location. Our first visit, we requested a back-in in the new section (which I later understood is actually for long term stay). First thing I noted was that the direction they suggested we approach our site from was the opposite of the direction you should to angle in. This is because there is a specific direction of travel recommended. You enter the park on the north & exit on the south. This new area of the park is virtually all gravel with a few areas of grass. Recently planted trees. Not unattractive, reminiscent of the nicest west Texas parks. (The surrounding country roads reminded us of inland coastal Alabama.) Satellite TV reception was unobstructed. This a big RV park. Different areas definitely have different environments. The opposite side of the park was more attractive, more country like. One of the things that hurts the park is that there are a very large number of long term guests (I have no problem with that) but too many of the sites show a lack of pride of ownership. Unfortunately the majority of them are along the routes used to navigate the park. During this first visit, we reserved a pull thru in a different section for a few weeks later. That turned out to be when N Cal was experiencing very heavy rains. Upon arrival we requested that we be allowed another back-in site in the new area. We were graciously accommodated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Vineyard RV. The country setting so close to the Bay Area is makes this facility a solid choice east of S.F. We camped at Midway RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Park management recommends the nearby Oates Country Market. It shares a building with a country bar. The market probably sells more alcohol than the bar from what I saw. ('Course I fit right in buying a 12 pack in my Harley shirt.) We felt much more comfortable at the small market located by the 80 off-ramp. It specializes in locally grown nuts & produce.

Flag City RV Resort, Lodi, California

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stay here frequently as we traverse the length of the state. It is a great facility. Initially the landscaping between sites was a ground cover that wasn't meant for traffic. It quickly became an eyesore. This trip, it was gone from our area. Actually kinda looked like wild plants had taken over, but it was cut & looked much better. Be advised that the hookups are too far back to leave the dinghy attached unless you have extra attachments with you. The sites were designed with towables in mind. We have found it much better to unhook our C-RV, set our 37' Class A up positioned conveniently to the hookups, then park the car in front of our rig. We camped at Flag City RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Bakersfield RV Resort, Bakersfield, California

Overall Rating:

Bakersfield has a number of nice RV parks. We usually stay here when passing through for 2 reasons. The first is our 37' Class A gasser appreciates the Costco gas station located on Panama being one of the least crowded around. Second, is the onsite restaurant, 'The Crest'. We've stayed here many times over the last decade and will continue to do so. We camped at Bakersfield RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Chula Vista RV Resort, Chula Vista, California

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

We last stayed here with our grandkids almost 5 years ago. Midweek, during the summer, it was just 'too active' for us. Midweek, early May, it was much more my style. The resort, and it is that, has a variety of sites. Those that back up to the bay, also back up to a public access area that can get very noisy. There are some excellent pull-thru's that would allow motorhome views of the marina. We'll use these next fall. This time we used an offered discount to stay in back-ins along a side road. Noise was not an issue. Our previous stay with the grandkids utilized one of the interior back-in sites that put our 37' triple slide Class A way too close to our neighbors. As the reader can infer, a lot of different site options are available at this beautiful resort. We camped at Chula Vista RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Las Vegas RV Resort , Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Things just didn't start well here. Pulled in with our C-RV attached to our 37' Class A just before sunset midweek. Unfortunately there's just enough of a slope that it made unhooking difficult. I was pretty much so told that was where I had to unhook (which made sense later). A very nice guy patiently waited before escorting us to our site. He politely stood by while my wife navigated me into our standard back in site. Part of his job was to make sure that I was only in my site. That's a great policy. All hook-ups at our site are behind the coach in a shared gravel area. Our 50 amp outlet is located so low to the ground that the portable circuit breaker thing I use is essentially lying on the ground. I use one of those blue disposable water filters attached to a gauge pressure regulator for the water. The faucet is about 9 inches above the ground pointing down at a 45* angle. It required the short little hose attachment that they often is included with the filters, an item I had neglected to bring this trip. Good thing we had plenty of water in our fresh water tank! Then there was the dump hose issue. It's a long run (about 20' for our coach) to an elevated connection on the far side an asphalt curb. These hoses ". . . should be raised off the ground . . ." at this park. Our dump orifice is located so very close to the utility box that I had to cut off the lever on our attachment designed to facilitate an easy solid connection or dumping would have been impossible. But . . . The site is pretty wide. Plenty of room to park the car in front of the rig. It's hardly more than an asphalt parking lot, but that also makes leveling easy. All the employees have been just great. We look for a quiet, safe park and it most definite has been that. We camped at Las Vegas RV Resort in a Motorhome.

There are 2 primary draws to this park for us. The first is that a Costco is located a little further down Panama where we gas up. The second is the on site restaurant, 'The Crest'. The park's in-town location on a multilane street makes for easy access form the 99, (come in from the north to avoid navigating a left turn thru a single lane bordered by concrete curbs), but also guarantees lots of traffic noise. Staff is always great. Given its suburban southern Central Valley location it is a beautiful park. We camped at Bakersfield RV Resort in a Motorhome.
