Rapid City / Black Hills KOA, Rapid City, South Dakota
Date of Stay:
September, 2018 -
$39.00
Overall Rating:
It looks like a lot of money has been spent on this park recently. Some of the sites have patios with nice tables and chairs (not picnic tables) and bbq grills. The buildings all look new or remodeled. Our site didn't have sewer but had a shelter over the picnic table to provide some shade. We did have a couple complaints, both fairly minor. They charged a $2 pet fee - for what, I don't know. And while they had 4 WiFi networks, none of them worked worth a darn. I had to use my T-Mobile service to post this review. The location is convenient to the interstate and Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial. We would stay here again. We camped at Rapid City / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.
The Quilt Connection is a great store, in Rapid City

Chicago Northwest KOA, Union, Illinois
Date of Stay:
September, 2018 -
$45.00
Overall Rating:
This park fills up on the weekends, when the Wild West amusement park next door is open. During park hours, you can enjoy (or not) the screams of kids, the fake gun battles, and the train whistle. It's a reasonable KOA. It seems pricey for where it is, a full hour from Chicago with no traffic via the tollway. The wifi worked better than some, and so did our T-Mobile service. There doesn't seem to be anything around so be sure you get what you need before you come. One more thing: the mosquitos are fierce. It was impossible to take the dog for a short walk without being swarmed. Everyone had smokers to try to keep them away. Not sure there's much the park owners could do about that but it made it impossible for us to sit outside at all. We camped at Chicago Northwest KOA in a Motorhome.

Autumn Woods RV Park, Rochester, Minnesota
Date of Stay:
September, 2018 -
$41.00
Overall Rating:
This is a pretty park with level sites and lots of mature trees. It's convenient to the freeway but far enough that you don't hear it. The park's wifi is marginal. Our T-Mobile service was equally marginal. They don't offer any discounts; I guess they don't feel the need. It seems well-run, clean, and safe. There was a sign on the door saying the shuttle has been discontinued, so if you were planning to stay here and needed that, you might want to call and ask about it first. We camped at Autumn Woods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Kearney RV Park and Campground, Kearney, Nebraska
Date of Stay:
September, 2018 -
$41.00
Overall Rating:
Nice park, appears pretty new. Gravel roads with concrete pads. Trees between sites will take years to be big enough to provide shade or privacy. We needed one block to be level. Laundry room was clean, but surprised to find just two washers ($2) and two dryers ($1.50) for a park this size. There didn't appear to be any fish in the pond but it was pretty to look at. Quite a bit of road noise, which is typical. WiFi in this park is terrible. I had to use my phone to submit the review because I couldn’t use their WiFi. We would stay here again. We camped at Kearney RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.
Try the Chicago pizza down the road

We arrived at the park before the 3:00 check-in time. A number of packets were prepared for campers in our situation, which was nice and organized. Site #1 was assigned to us. We drove there and found that the electric receptacle was broken in half and a prong was missing. We weren't about to take a chance of burning up our electrical cord. Since there were lots of empty spaces, we moved to site #2. Awhile later we left to explore the town. When we came back, the park folks were there. They told us, rather unpleasantly, that people had been using that electrical box all summer. And that they were full and had no other sites available. The park was still very empty so it was hard to know if that was true. We took our refund and left. We will not be back.
The WiFi worked well as did T-Mobile service. This was a pretty basic KOA campground. The sites seemed level, and there was some road noise but not an unusual amount. We
camped at Rawlins KOA in a Motorhome.

Rate includes tax and KOA card discount. Nice park. Very big, lots of mature trees for shade, spread over a large area so it didn't feel so big. Nice wide roads. Good location, convenient to downtown. Park's WiFi and T-Mobile worked well. We would stay here again. We camped at Salt Lake City KOA in a Motorhome.
We didn't eat there but the Mexican restaurant on the corner has great reviews

Silver State RV Park (formerly Winnemucca / I-80 KOA), Winnemucca, Nevada
Date of Stay:
August, 2018 -
$32.00
Overall Rating:
This looks like a very new park. Except for the sites on the outside edges (some of which are for tents), all the sites are pull-thrus. Sites are gravel and level, we'll-separated. There are stones on the area between sites with the picnic tables. Our little dog didn't like walking on the stones but otherwise it was fine. The park's WiFi and our TxMobile service both worked well here. We would stay here again. We camped at Silver State RV Park (formerly Winnemucca / I-80 KOA) in a Motorhome.
The office sells what they call Chicago hot dogs. I'm from Chicago, so take it from me: it's edible but no Chicago dog! They also sell ice cream by the scoop which is a nice treat.

The Lakes RV & Golf Resort, Chowchilla, California
Date of Stay:
August, 2018 -
$60.00
Overall Rating:
We have stayed in this campground a number of times because it's close to our kids. It is clean and well-run. We used to get a bigger discount through RPI but were always stuck in the back row. This time we got a lakeside back-in site. The sites are long and wide, and level. We don't golf, and for the area the price seems a bit high. We continue to stay here because it is secure and we always have a good experience. We camped at The Lakes RV & Golf Resort in a Motorhome.
Conchita's - down Robertson Rd. - has great, well priced Mexican food.

Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails, Bend, Oregon
Date of Stay:
July, 2018 -
$1.00
Overall Rating:
Thousand Trails "preserves" vary greatly, from run down to well-kept and everything in-between. This park is being maintained and improved, and the effort shows. We were given a list of recent improvements when we checked in, and it was extensive. The campground was full or nearly so during our stay. Just two rows with 50 amp service (A and B). There are no sites with sewer in the park. You either have to use one of their dump stations or pay the weekly "honey wagon" for a pump-out. Like most TT parks, the WiFi only works at the office/lodge and even there it doesn't work well. We had good service from Verizon in the park. Our biggest complaint is the dust. It's desert, after all, and even with the new gravel in the roads, we felt like we were constantly tracking dust everywhere. Except for that, our stay was pleasant and we would come back. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.
It's a short drive to Sunriver, about a half hour to Bend, and 45 minutes to Sisters.

Klamath Falls KOA, Klamath Falls, Oregon
Date of Stay:
July, 2018 -
$45.00
Overall Rating:
KOAs vary greatly. Some are pretty run down. Some, like this one, are well-maintained and we'll-run. The location is convenient, there are enough trees for some shade from the hot July sun, and everything seems clean. There are 12 cable TV channels and the WiFi works well. The KOA website said the park was full but we called the property directly and got a space. We camped at Klamath Falls KOA in a Motorhome.

Barstow / Calico KOA, Yermo, California
Date of Stay:
July, 2017 -
$50.00
Overall Rating:
As others have said, this park is okay for an overnight stop. We appreciated the trees at our site that offered some shade from the heat, and the sites were long and wide enough to be reasonable. The price is very high for the location. The wifi was iffy - it usually didn't work for my iPad, but did for my husband's. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.
If you're coming from I-40, go straight under the I-15 freeway and turn left on the second frontage road. Don't follow your gps and turn left on the first frontage road because you'll have to go 2 miles to the next overpass and 2 miles back!

Grand Canyon / Williams KOA, Williams, Arizona
Date of Stay:
July, 2017 -
$45.00
Overall Rating:
This appears to be a pretty old park. There are very few sites with full hookups and none of those are pull-throughs. The price we paid seemed high for a short back-in site with no sewer. The roads are narrow and the turns rather tight. It was fine for a one-night stay but I wouldn't care to stay longer. The wifi is inconsistent. They have a nice store with some cute gift items, and it was refreshing to find that a few of those were made in the U.S. I guess the proximity to the Grand Canyon is the reason the park survives. We camped at Grand Canyon / Williams KOA in a Motorhome.

Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Overall Rating:
We had a little trouble getting into our space because we were towing a car on a dolly and couldn't make the turn to go into our space in the direction we were instructed to face. We pulled in the other way and it was fine. There's little shade in the campground and not much to look at. They have some vintage trailers in the front spaces which are fun. We camped at Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post in a Motorhome.

Bayhead Mobile Home Park, Tallahassee, Florida
Date of Stay:
June, 2017 -
$23.00
Overall Rating:
This is a very nice, well-kept mobile home park with a number of large RV spaces off to one side. It's just 3 miles off of I-10, easy to get to. The roads are wide. We maneuvered a small motorhome towing a car with ease. Check-in was fast and friendly. The wifi works very well. Lots of cable channels, too. If we're back in the area we would definitely stay there again. We camped at Bayhead Mobile Home Park in a Motorhome.
Wal-Mart a couple miles away. Not much other grocery shopping nearby.

Orlando RV Resort (Thousand Trails), Clermont, Florida
Date of Stay:
July, 2016 -
$1.00
Overall Rating:
Like many Thousand Trails parks, this one is old and has lots of permanent residents. Most of the permanents are in their own section, in trailers or tiny mobile homes.
They are making an effort to upgrade the electricity and plumbing in the park, which is good. If all goes well, that work will be done before the snowbirds arrive later this year. Hopefully Thousand Trails won't do what they've done in many other parks where they charge people an "amenity fee" to use the upgraded sites.
There is no cable TV but we were able to get quite a few over-the-air channels. There is also no WiFi except for a fee. We paid $30 for the 3 weeks we were there. It worked fairly well except during the morning and evening "rush hours" when it pretty well shut down. Verizon LTE worked well all the time.
The sites are sand, or maybe dirt and sand. We tracked sand into our trailer constantly. It was like being at the beach without the benefit of the water.
Most of the sites are exposed. Ours had some trees for shade which was very welcome in the summer heat. Sites vary in length a lot. Ours was long enough for our 28' fifth wheel, truck, and a car.
There is a lake you can fish in. My husband hooked an alligator so be careful! We
camped at Orlando RV Resort (Thousand Trails) in a Fifth Wheel.
