Pima County Fairgrounds, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night passing through the area. We had originally planned to boondock, but with hard freeze and winter weather advisories, we preferred to be able to plug into electric. This is definitely a no-frills big open parking lot with hookups, but the $27 GS rate was well worth it for what we needed. Especially when we woke up to four inches of new snow. Painstaking check-in process and escort to our site, which I suppose is helpful to some people but it's a big open parking lot. Wifi was down and wasn't going to be fixed for a few days. They weren't full when we were there, but sites look like they are packed in pretty tight. Interior "roads" very easy to navigate. It's conveniently located off the interstate, yet far enough away that we didn't hear road noise. Very quiet at night. Gravel lot, level site. Strong Verizon signal. We camped at Pima County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tombstone RV Park and Campground, Tombstone, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We spent two nights here. Great location for visiting Tombstone and Bisbee. Easy in and out, nice level sites and pea gravel throughout whole park. Their wifi is average. Our Verizon mifi and cell service was poor. Very nice rec room, clean bathrooms. Pool area looks nice but we didn't use it (since it snowed during our stay!). The 50a had blown out on a few sites the day before we got there. They didn't know ours was out too. As promised they had it repaired quickly. Friendly reservation and check-in. Fairly wide site. Shuttle to Tombstone is a nice touch, though we didn't use it. We camped at Tombstone RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Lordsburg KOA, Lordsburg, New Mexico

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Easy in and out, the most flat site we've ever had! Nice hard-packed gravel and dead nuts level. A little bit of highway noise and some trains rolled through in the morning. We spent one night passing through the area, perfect for what we needed. Site was long enough for our 40 foot MH and tow so we didn't have to unhook. Sites are pretty close together and no privacy in-between if you're planning a longer stay. Friendly reservation and check-in process, clean and tidy place. Good Verizon cell signal. We camped at Lordsburg KOA in a Motorhome.

Big Bend Resort & Adventures RV Park & Campground (Big Bend Motor Inn), Terlingua, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

If you manage your expectations properly, you'll probably enjoy your stay. In our research we considered staying at another RV park and after driving by it we're so glad we chose this campground instead - there's no comparison. We were in the area specifically to experience Big Bend National Park, and this campground met our needs perfectly. Our first day in the park we dropped the RV at Panther Junction visitor center (which was closed thanks to the shutdown) and drove to Boquillas Canyon, Hot Springs and other trails on the east side. After that, everything else we wanted to see and do was easily manageable from this RV park location. We've learned words like "park" and "resort" are to be taken with a grain of salt. As others have mentioned, this is a big sand parking lot, but you're in the middle of the desert. Sites are pretty close to each other, but we were only there in the early morning and later in the evening. Interior roads are some of the widest we've seen, very easy to navigate to our back-in site, somewhat level. Internet in the game room was fast during our stay, and sufficient for checking weather and researching hikes. We had no Verizon signal at our site, which was fine since that's what we expected and planned for. We camped at Big Bend Resort & Adventures RV Park & Campground (Big Bend Motor Inn) in a Motorhome.

Gaslight Square Mobile Home Park, Canutillo, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Made a last minute reservation traveling through, very friendly. Got all the codes and info we needed over the phone, internet was fast. Concrete site surrounded by gravel, level. Interior roads easy to navigate and we had a pull-thru site, didn't even have to disconnect Jeep. We heard some road noise during the night over our heater. Perfect for what we needed - a place to overnight and plug in while it was snowing! Good Verizon service. We camped at Gaslight Square Mobile Home Park in a Motorhome.

South Main RV Park, Houston, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Location. Location. Location. Rating is taking into consideration where and what it is, they're doing the best they can with what they've got. It's an urban campground. We stayed here because of the proximity to family living in the med center area. Road noise is constant day and night, so it fades into the background eventually. Fast free internet was a bonus. Site was level, pea gravel to park on and concrete pad patio was a nice feature. Sites are small. Clean and tidy park. Interior roads were fine, easy in and out. First park we stayed at with a barbed wire fence. U-Haul less than a mile down the road where we filled up propane. We would stay here again, due to the convenience to the med center area. We camped at South Main RV Park in a Motorhome.

Gulfview RV Resort (Encore), Punta Gorda, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Price reflects monthly rate. We stayed here because family was nearby, convenient for that. Luckily we had a site that was towards the back, off the main road. Concrete pads are nice but parking our motorhome on the grass for a month, we sunk in quite a bit. Nice level site, friendly people. Easy in and out and interior roads easy to navigate. Fitness center was an added bonus and lots of activities at the club house, very active community. Only downside is spaces are pretty close together, but it's to be expected in an urban RV resort. Home Depot, Publix Grocery, Walmart, Walgreens, etc., are all conveniently nearby. We camped at Gulfview RV Resort (Encore) in a Motorhome.

Myakka River State Park, Sarasota, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We were lucky to get two nights available as we were making last minute plans heading south. So glad we finally got to visit this park! Trees and bushes provide privacy between sites. Lots of gators, rosette spoonbill, ibis and other birds. Nice gravel level site. Lots of space to drive or hike around. Enjoyed the view from the top of the tower on the canopy walk - treetops in every direction as far as you can see, without any man-made obstructions, is a rare thing in Florida. We would stay here again. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Clinch State Park, Fernandina Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

One of the problems with this campground is that it set the bar really high for us with other Florida State Parks. After passing through the main entrance, the approach road to the campgrounds is long and "canopied" with tree branches arched over the road and draped in Spanish moss. Our site was on the ocean side, very windy and raining when we were there. We parked nose in to enjoy the view of the sand dunes and ocean, and ran our water and electric under the coach. We took our chairs and books over to the river side (by the other campground, more protected from the wind), watched boats and saw dolphins! Also saw several deer in sea oats near the beach and around the campground. Site was hard packed and level, easy in and out. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Fort Clinch State Park in a Motorhome.

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area, Flagler Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Between the pot holes and speed bumps the interior roads are pretty bad. Other than that, it's a good stop. We camped on the river side and walked across the street to enjoy the beach. Within hours of hooking up we had ants inside, they came up the water and electric lines so just know to keep an eye on that. Nice level gravel site. Easy check in/out, friendly people. We camped at Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Little Manatee River State Park, Wimauma, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here one night because it was close to family we were visiting. Friendly people, smaller park, a couple corners were a little tight with other campers and their trucks sticking out in the road. But it was manageable. Trees and bushes provide privacy between sites. Very quiet here, it's set way off the road. We saw lots of deer. Very level site, gravel/sand. We would stay here again. We camped at Little Manatee River State Park in a Motorhome.

Sesquicentennial State Park, Columbia, South Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park, tall pines, quiet, decent trails, friendly people, clean bathroom. T-Mobile and Verizon both worked. Nice gravel level site, very spacious. Easy back in with the angle of the site - why can't more campgrounds figure that out? Some of the interior roads were tight in our 40 foot motorhome, with tall pines right up to the side of the road, but it's manageable if you go slow. You hear some road noise during the day if you're around but it's quiet at night. Saw deer strolling through campground. We camped at Sesquicentennial State Park in a Motorhome.

Charlotte / Fort Mill KOA, Fort Mill, South Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Gravel site, mostly level. The most transients we've ever experienced. Friendly people at KOA office/Valero gas station. Zero space, zero privacy with neighbor's awning an inch from our rig. Instead of parking directly behind us in the designated space, they parked their trailer to the side and encroached in our space. And a guy runs around shuttling people to their sites with each check-in, too, so we have no idea why that happened. That's too close to camp with people you don't know and who blast music with outside speakers. Easy in and out, convenient gas station with good diesel prices. Make sure you have a power conditioner since power swings were frequent. Internet was very good. Road noise. Convenient walk to Publix grocery store. We ended up leaving early. We camped at Charlotte / Fort Mill KOA in a Motorhome.

Dixie Caverns Campground, Salem, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a week because it's what worked for our route and schedule. We went in with proper expectations and the campground worked fine for what we needed. You do hear interstate noise pretty much non-stop, but we knew that going in. There are several year-round campers and in the transient stops there was a steady flow through of overnighters. We have our own Verizon mifi so we normally don't tap into campground wifi when available. But we did here and it was incredibly fast. Easy access off the interstate, easy to navigate interior roads, nice to have a gravel site but ours wasn't very level. Transient sites are very tight - we couldn't open our awning if we wanted to due to a power pole on one side, and on the other side our neighbor's slide was about six feet. Friendly people. Grocery, Walmart, Walgreens, Lowe's all convenient right down the road in Salem. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

Outlanders River Camp, Luray, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Part of what you're paying for here is location, which is great. We stayed here in a 40 foot motorhome and interior roads easy to navigate. Easy in/out, friendly staff, well maintained property, clean bathhouse. Great location for exploring Shenandoah National Park and Luray Caverns, and also nice to sit at the campsite and look out at the mountains on both sides of the valley. No privacy between sites, you're pretty exposed from all angles and our site could use some leveling work. But this didn't detract from our overall stay. Walmart, grocery and other stores right up the road. T-Mobile didn't work here but our Verizon cell and mifi worked great. This is a true campground with transient traffic. We heard some road noise when we were there during the day, but very quiet at night. They also have some very nice looking cabins (from the outside), a nice tent area, and a trail along the river. We would stay here again. Rate reflects weekly rate. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Motorhome.
