Kirtland AFB FamCamp , Kirtland AFB, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in the graveled area. Strong winds for two of the 8 days we were there. Rained for several days as well. Close to gas station and commissary/PX complexes. Eubank gate open 24/7 while other gates are not. Get in early in the day if possible, especially on Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights. Sites fill up. During Balloon Fiesta (October) plan on being on a waiting list - no reservations are taken. We camped at Kirtland AFB FamCamp in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Off post you are close to CostCo and Sams, and lots of other places. Recommend you stop at Golden Pride just west of Eubank on Central for quick food - large menu of items. Many fine restaurants along Pan American highway (west side of I-25 ) close to the I-40/I-25 interchange.

Western Hills Campground, Rawlins, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Windy on both times we stayed (one week apart while traveling). First time we stayed in one of their no-cable sites, the last time with cable. Given the wind I would not stay there more than one day but the city does have Walmart, and several other stores. We just didn't say long enough to see what else might be there. We camped at Western Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain Valley RV Resort, Heber City, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are very wide and area is well maintained. Facilities (swimming pools, hot tubs, playgrounds and dog parks) well maintained. Any deficiencies (out of paper for example) was promptly corrected (I found one towel machine where the paper jammed and they had it fixed before I could walk back to that building!!). No walking paths other than around the park, which is quite large) but the views of the mountains were, well, we never got tired of looking at them. The views changed with the time of day as the sun light brought out new valleys, ridges, and colors. Would definitely stay here again if the opportunity arises. We camped at Mountain Valley RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Heber City has a Walmart close by. There is a Smith's Grocery Store on the other side of the city (which is not at all a far drive on Hwy 40). Park City is within a short drive and Salt Lake City is about 45 miles away. Numerous water falls and other sites are 30 miles or less and numerous hiking opportunities within short driving distances as well. Fishing and boating opportunities exist as there are two large lakes close by not to mention streams.

Limon KOA, Limon, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Arrived early and had easy access to long pull through although I did have to disconnect. Close to Shell service station for fueling. It had recently rained so the ground was wet; small puddles but nothing unexpected. Owners take great care of the place. We'll definitely stay again. We camped at Limon KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Kirtland AFB FamCamp , Kirtland AFB, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Few sites with trees and concrete pads. They all seem to be taken by long-term folks. Had to park in 'new' area which is gravel and has no shade. No WIFI while we were here. Weeds starting to get an upper hand on the staff: especially the goat-heads. (A unique sticker/weed that punctures bicycle tires, and when you get one in your foot or hand, itches like mad for a long time afterwards.) In any case, toilets, laundry room were clean. Staff was Very friendly and helpful. Has propane for sale during week, none on weekends. We camped at Kirtland AFB FamCamp in a Fifth Wheel.

Kirtland AFB FamCamp , Kirtland AFB, New Mexico

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Limited number of paved (concrete or asphalt) sites, mostly gravel without trees (not unexpected given New Mexico). WiFi appears to have been upgraded since January 2015 but still weak and spotty. Limited access (Eubank gate only open until Mid-night, Carlisle gate has metal barriers to entry so late arrival not recommended. Filled solid for Balloon Fiesta, however the rest of the year there seems to be ample sites available. We camped at Kirtland AFB FamCamp in a Fifth Wheel.

Limon KOA, Limon, Colorado

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Park management super -- we arrived late but they had the site well marked. Seven degrees when we arrived but water hydrant is well insulated and heated, was able to add water to coach fresh water tank without any problem. The bathroom was clean and warm, did not use the shower. Access is off the interstate and back a bit from the road - you have to watch carefully to see their entrance sign. Had recently snowed but the interior roads were clear of snow and mostly dry (no ice spots). This is the third time we've stayed here in the past year - always clean and staff is super. We camped at Limon KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Kirtland AFB FamCamp , Kirtland AFB, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed on the graveled portion. Very few concrete and most of those appear to be taken by full-timers (even though the rules state 14 day except for a few exceptions.) Regardless, the spots are fairly level and the grounds crew has worked to keep the weeds (stickers called goat-heads) at bay. That said, the only issue we had is that the wind blows through Tijeras Canyon with a vengeance; while we were there we experienced winds in excess of 30 mph yet you can go North two miles and it will be calm - the venturi effect of the mountains and the winds coming through the canyon. Other than that a superb campground and easy access to all areas of town. There are two ladies who man the office, one is exceptionally pleasant, the other is, well let me just say I much rather deal with the other one. However, both are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and will do their very best to help you. We camped at Kirtland AFB FamCamp in a Fifth Wheel.

Balloon Fiesta during the time we were there so plan ahead. You have the Sandia Tramway which takes you from approximately 5500 feet up to 13000 feet; Santa Fe is approximately 60 miles north which offers a variety of sightseeing and other adventures.

Excellent escort coming in; clean campground. Close to interstate but did not really notice the road. Sites are rather close together; with 3 slides, my space was quite cramped. Access in, out, and within the camp is very good though. We camped at Colorado Springs KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Limon KOA, Limon, Colorado

Date of Stay: October, 2004 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Sites being renovated - Electrical improvements seen. Clean. Very friendly staff. Had a 'free all-you-could-eat' pancake breakfast - very well handled. Was noisy (right off the interstate and behind FlyingJ so got heavy truck noise from both sides) but tolerable. We camped at Limon KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
