Elks Lodge #901 (Elks only), Petaluma, California

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Must be an Elk in good standing to stay here. Reservations can be made on line ahead of time and the site is very easy to use, including information on which sites are adequate for larger rigs. 30/50 amp full hookups with wifi available. All sites are on asphalt and back in. There is a significant slant from the rear to the front, which is for drainage. We saw several coaches with the front wheels off the ground. We opted to not level with our jacks and had no issues. This is an excellent option for visiting the area as there aren't a lot of other choices available. Staff was great as were our fellow 'campers'. The park was busy every day we were here and full most nights. We camped at Elks Lodge #901 (Elks only) in a Motorhome.

This is an excellent location for exploring the area from . We visited Bodega Bay, Pt. Reyes, the Marin Headlands, Healdsburg & Windsor. Great Italian at Cucina Paradiso in downtown Petaluma. The lodge had meals and activities but we did not participate in any of them.

Westwind RV and Golf Resort, Yuma, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We made a reservation at the last minute - about 4 days ahead of time. They honored our Passport America membership for the duration of our 7 night stay! We have stayed at quite a few of the RV parks in Yuma and this has to be in the top 2 (the Palms being #1 but it's quite a bit more per night). This park is located along the frontage road which parallels Interstate 8. It is on the east side of Yuma in an area called the Foothills. There are a lot of parks out here and the vast majority of them are located in similar situations. Westwind has graveled sites with concrete patios. 50/30 amp full hookups. Wifi is available for an additional cost, but our Verizon service worked just fine. We got a few over the air TV channels but had no obstructions for our satellite dish. The park offers a wide array of activities if you are interested, including a 9 hole par 3 golf course. There is also an onsite restaurant and bar. We took advantage of Taco Tuesday and would recommend it! The park also brings in entertainment and hosts weekly dances. The roads are all paved and easily accessible by even the largest rigs - we are 45 feet and had no issues (we did unhook the 'towed' at check in which is our normal pattern, it just makes things easier!). They put us in a pull thru which is really two back in spaces that you have to jockey through (with direction from the staff who escort you to your site). The area we were in seemed to be for short term stays as our neighbors changed almost daily. The park is very clean with about 40% occupied by park models - which is also the 'norm' for parks in Yuma. We would stay again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this park. The Passport America discount really makes it a bargain for Yuma in snowbird season! We camped at Westwind RV and Golf Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We tend to come to Yuma yearly after spending time dry camping out in Quartzsite. We take advantage of Roberts RV Wash & Wax to have the coach cleaned & waxed - they do a great job at a reasonable rate. Algadones is also a convenient drive away for a trip 'across the border' for dental/optical/pharmacy and a meal. Prison Hill Brewing is the local craft brewery with good food & brew. Lots of events in Yuma as well, so check ahead of time.

Pony Express RV Resort, North Salt Lake, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

Nice RV park and as others have indicated it's close to Temple Square and the Capitol, both worthy of a visit. Price paid was for a premium pullthru on the front row. Easy access and level. All utilities worked. I feel the rate is a bit high but it seems to be the way "resort" parks are now going. We were here for 3 nights and didn't use any of the facilities but enjoyed our stay. We did not notice any road noise and had no issues. We wold stay again if we were in the area. We camped at Pony Express RV Resort in a Motorhome.

The Tabernacle in Temple Square has free Organ recitals daily at noon which we would recommend. A meal at the Red Iguana is also worthwhile, really good Mexican food, they are known for their different Mole's, just be prepared to wait at any time of day!!

Iron Horse RV Resort, Elko, Nevada

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Elko, for a small town sure has a lot going for it. Iron Horse is located a short distance off the Interstate and the signage is a bit confusing, you want to turn at the driveway between the Quality Inn and the Hilton Garden, this road will take you right to the office. We opted for a pull thru. They are side by side and a little tight. I think I would choose a back in site next time. We had no problems getting level but noticed some folks with boards and/or tires off the road. Roadways are paved, sites are gravel. Park is spotless. We didn't have any problems with noisy trucks as a previous reviewer mentioned. There are quite a few folks living here as they work the local oil fields, etc. We would stay again/recommend this park. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Don't miss the Coffee Mug for a meal - anytime of day, it's good. We enjoyed the California Trail Visitor Center located about 8 miles west of Elko on I80....its free to visit and very well done. We also enjoyed a later afternoon drive out to Lamoille Canyon. Lots of museum in town that we left for our next visit!

Sparks Marina RV Park, Sparks, Nevada

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice, clean park and easy to get around in a big rig - in our case 45 feet. We have gotten in the habit of always unhooking our tow vehicle after checking in and before getting to our site just for ease of parking and jockeying around in the site pre-setup. We don't have pets but the dog run here makes me wish I had one, truly the nicest we have ever seen. Sites are paved, level and green, with astro turf! You will be close to your neighbor however and the water connection hookup almost requires you to get on your knees. The directions the park provides for big-rigs are doable but the easier way is to exit off Interstate 80 at Sparks Avenue, which is exit 20. Travel north to the light at Lincoln Avenue, turn west ( L ) and take this to the right hand turn for the RV park. There are a couple of very large roundabouts going this way, just follow the signs for Lincoln and you will be fine....the big delivery trucks go this way so it is 100% doable by even the biggest coaches. We camped at Sparks Marina RV Park in a Motorhome.

Reno is turning into quite the arts town, lots of outdoor sculptures and murals. If you have an interest the Visitor Center has a guide. The Auto Museum is also World Class. Lou's Basque has great food, its in downtown Reno and we never miss a change to have a Grimaldis Pizza - there is one over by the Scheels. This visit we drove out to Pyramid Lake and the Piaute Museum, very worthwhile.

Riverwalk RV Park, Fortuna, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Spent 3 nights in a pullthru full hookup site. Utilities good, did not try wifi. Cable worked well as we weren't able to get satellite due to trees in our site - check in packet did not come with a cable listing however. Site was a bit on the narrow side and we had to walk in the grass to get to an from our tow vehicle would probably not be a problem if it weren't raining. Quiet location even though it's located right off Highway 101. We would stay here again. We camped at Riverwalk RV Park in a Motorhome.

Don't miss the Avenue of the Giants, the north entrance to it is about 20 miles south of here. Ferndale is full of beautiful Victorians. Loleta Cheese Factory is another not to be missed spot. Eel RIver Brewery is literally right around the corner - Happy Hour is 3-6 with pints at $3.75. Pitchers are $12 all day Saturday and Sunday. Food is good with lots of daily specials.

Double D RV Park, Texola, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Very convenient stop when traveling I40 as it is located less than a 1/4 mile off the interstate at exit 1 at the Texas/Oklahoma border. Gravel, level pullthrus with grass between sites and some beautiful trees. Sites are long enough that there is no need to unhook. Red power boxes indicate 50 amp service which is $28 a night or $14 with the Passport America discount. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Double D RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sites are on the small side and unlevel. We had a 30 amp full hookup site that was in the open so no issues with our DirecTv - which still worked here. WiFi worked at the site as well. Camping Bernieres, Saint Nicolas, Quebec

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Park has new owners who are working at upgrading the short term/transient sites. We were in one of the updated sites, 50 amp full hookup and had no problems. Our traveling companions in the 30 amp sites had on going problems with the power shutting off. Staff was quick to respond to the issue and worked at fixing it. Sites are level and gravel but still very close together. More than half this park is filled with seasonal's and we found them a bit unfriendly, not a big deal but you don't really feel welcome here. The office staff and manager were helpful and friendly though and that's what really matters. The campground has a lovely heated pool that was very busy during our stay as well as an onsite restaurant. The office staff speaks English. We camped at Camping Bernieres in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in the back section of the park and were the first customer to use the brand new site. 50 amp full hook up. No issues with any of the services. It rained the entire time we were here and there was a lot of standing water. WiFi did not work at the site but our cell phones, MiFi and DirecTv did. The staff was accommodating and the park is convenient to the Ottawa area and its attractions. We would stay again and would recommend this campground. We camped at Camp Hither Hills in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the nicest parks we have been to in over 12 years of full timing and even longer as part timers. Back in, gravel 50 amp fullhookup site complete with a swing, four person glass topped table and fire pit. Friendly and helpful staff who were available to answer questions and offer assistance. This is an owners park and we found everyone friendly. Our cellphones (Verizon) and Directv worked without issue. Convenient to Montereal and all the sites. The Willows on the Lake, Adams, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice RV park with a bit over half the spaces taken up by seasonal/long term units. The transient spaces are all located to the back side of the park which is closest to Highway 3. The long term units are all well maintained and the folks are all very friendly. Highway 3 is part of the Seaway Scenic Byway and was busy during the day but not at night and the noise was not noticeable at all. Our site was a gravel pullthru with full hookups ( 50 amp), it was open allowing us to connect our satellite tv with no problems. We were given a wifi code but did not try to connect as our Verizon service worked just fine. It rained, heavily, while we were here and we had quite a bit of standing water around our site but not around our pad area which allowed us to get in and out of the coach with no problems. They recycle here, which is a nice perk but there is only on dumpster/recycling center and it is at the opposite end of the park from the transient/short term sites which makes it a bit inconvenient. The gazebo at the lake front is very nice and the sunsets are beautiful. Lake Ontario is currently at a 100 year historic high so the swim beach and dock were closed. We really enjoyed this park and would stay again if we were in the area. We camped at The Willows on the Lake in a Motorhome.

Otter Lake Camp Resort, East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

First of all, to reach this campground you have to travel 7 miles down Marshall Creek Road. It is a winding, 2 lane country road. Do-able but slow going, especially if you are 65 feet long like we are with our coach & towed. The campground itself is beautiful. Heavily treed but easy to maneuver around. Our site was plenty big and all the utilities worked well, with the exception of the Wi-Fi, which was spotty at best. Cable has a good variety of channels which was nice, as there was no way our roof mounted satellite could have connected (portable ones will probably have difficulty as well as there is very little open area). It rained, heavily, while we were here and we had no problems with standing water, etc. We had limited connectivity with our cell phones on Verizon service. This is really a destination park for families to enjoy all the amenities not really one to use if passing through or for sightseeing in the local area. Because we are two adults who fulltime I doubt we would stay here again. We camped at Otter Lake Camp Resort in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Watch the turn coming into the park - there is an island that you you can't see until you are partially in the driveway. Also makes it a bit 'skinny' when exiting with you coach/RV. This is a lovely, well maintained park with easy access to I26. We were in a pull thru that had trees blocking our satellite dish and they sent maintenance over quickly to trim the branches back. Wifi and all connections worked and we had a very enjoyable week here. We weren't really ready to leave when it was time to go, which is unusual for us! We will definitely be back.
