Bar J Hitchin Post RV, Sweetwater, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

No frills place to park overnight. Utilities were at the back of the site we were given so we only used electric. Management was very poor. Gave us a site and AFTER we were all set up told us to move to next site over. They forgot they had a friend coming in to the site they assigned us originally. Sorry was all they said. Sewer too far back to use without adding all my hose extensions to reach it. So didn't use it for a one night stop. Next to I-20 (noise) and adjacent to a large T&A Truck Stop (More noise). We needed a place to spend the night and this need was met. We camped at Bar J Hitchin Post RV in a Motorhome.

The Views RV Park & Campground, Dolores, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The Views Campground in Delores, Colorado is a great private campground. We were in a long pull-thru site that was twice the length of our 38' motorhome. The sites are also wide and most have trees/shrubs between them. We could hardly see our neighbors. The couple that own and operate The Views are super attentive and very friendly. There are some great VIEWS from this campground, but you have to choose the correct sites to get the views. Our site was large but was isolated and had no views. The best views are the back in sites on the back row - huge valley with mountains all around seen from those sites. Delores/Cortez is a great area and we highly recommend spending some time there. We camped at The Views RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Visit the Delores Brewery in the little town of Delores. Great pizza from a wood fired oven and a large assortment of craft beers. There are two good grocery stores in Cortez, about 8 miles away. And, one great local restaurant called The Farm Bistro.

Santa Rosa Lake State Park, Santa Rosa, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Rocky Point CG where we stayed is a worn out jumble of broken asphalt and in general so are the campsites. We reserved a 30-amp site without water. It was described as a 50' back in but when we got there it was maybe 40' and very unlevel. We got lucky and found a first come site with both water and 50-amp service. We like to visit State Parks whenever possible, but this on reflects poorly on NM State Parks System. There is a dam and big body of water but it's brown water not appealing at all. Perhaps recent rains caused the unattractive appearance?? It's about a 8-10 mile drive to the park from I-40. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Bonito Campground (USFS), Flagstaff, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely NFS campground near the volcano national monument. Dry camping but all paved roads and paved level sites. Huge space between camp sites. Mature pine trees and great views everywhere. Zero cell service ATT oe Verizon. We did find that if we walked to the campground entrance we could get a little service. Great camp host that kept everything spotless and quiet. We loved it here. We camped at Bonito Campground (USFS) in a Motorhome.

J & H RV Park (55 + Park), Flagstaff, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

We spent 5-days here in May 2019. It's crowded and honestly not all that friendly. The list of rules is very long and includes many unusual items. For instance, you can't use a ladder here, or get on the roof for any reason. We've never seen that rule before. Signs that I'm sure the owners think are cute remind you of other things not to do. OK, but they are everywhere. Of all the private RV parks it may be the best in town, but that's not reason enough to return to this one. We camped at J & H RV Park (55 + Park) in a Motorhome.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Mathis, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Lake Corpus Christi State Park is a delightful park just 50 miles north of Corpus Christi, TX and not far off of Interstate Hwy 37. There is are full hookup sites as well as water/electric and dry camping sites available. There are also shelters and "cabins" available we were told but did not see them. In the FHU sites we stayed in all are pull throughs (curved sites) and were fairly large sites. However, they were a bit close together. Site 47 is the best of the FHU sites. There is plenty of large shade trees around the sites and the view of the lake is great. The surprising thing was huge mowed lawns between the camping areas and picnic areas. Some sites were more level than others and while each has a level concrete pad the pads are short and narrow. Sites are crumbling asphalt on each side of the concrete pad. We were only there a night but it was a great place and one we'd return to often in the cooler months. We camped at Lake Corpus Christi State Park in a Motorhome.

Mother Neff State Park, Moody, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Newly rebuilt 3-years ago, this is the jewel of the Texas State Park system. There are only 20 sites but all of them have concrete pads, full-hookups and lovely crushed granite picnic areas at each campsite. The pull-throughs are very long and even the back-ins are nice and roomy. The HQ and bath/shower rooms are brand new and super clean. All in all a great State Park in the Texas system. We do have a couple complaints, it's not perfect. First, they love to brag about their prairie grass and that it's not mowed. It looks great - but it's full of stickers (and chiggers). Keep your pets out of the grass or they'll be instantly covered in hard to remove stickers. Unfortunately there is no real grass - no place you can walk your pet without the sticker issue. Also, there are not a lot of things to do around the area, but that's OK it's fun to relax. There isn't any wifi, but ATT Cell service is good and Verizon is OK, too. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

Sunny Brook RV Resort, South Haven, Michigan

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

This is a RV Lot Purchase kind of RV park. it's very well done. The grounds are immaculate. There are large concrete sites and some have casitas, gazebos and outdoor kitchens. There's a man-made lake with the nicest sites on the lake. Trailers and 5th wheels are allowed in the park, but only Class A RVs are allowed directly on the lake. They rent unsold spots and there are a number of owners that rent their sites when they are not using them. (Lakeside spots rent for $89.) Also, there are some sites that border a wooded area, as well. All of the sites are pull in or back in. No pull-thrus. There are a couple of clubhouses, an exercise room, even a sandy beach on the lakes. It's a beautiful RV park in a beautiful part of the State and just a few miles from Lake Michigan and the quaint town of South Haven. Well worth a visit. We camped at Sunny Brook RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA, Durant, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second stay here and we really enjoyed it again. This is a great KOA and is very well maintained. Long, wide, level concrete sites. Immaculate grassy areas. Shrubs between sites and all building are top notch. The adjacent casino is very nice and offers many food choices as well. If you're in North Texas/Southern Oklahoma give this one a try. We've always stayed mid-week and it's been fairly empty. But we hear that weekends are quite full, and the casino hosts many BIG name entertainment acts on weekends that can fill the park. So plan ahead. We camped at Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA in a Motorhome.

Twin Fountains RV Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Located in Oklahoma City and close to many of the area's attractions... and highways - busy expressway and surface streets surround the park. They have severely over crowded this park. Sites are not only close together they are shoehorned into every available piece of land. Be careful they don't put you in one of the sites on either side of the entrance gate. Where most RV parks would have a little bit of grass between the road and the camping sites, this one puts RV sites in that space. The sites are paved and long, but many are level only in the middle of the length of the site. Our site had a steep entrance from the rear, then a flat section followed by a steep exit. The sewer connect was way in the back. Since we had to park in the middle to be level, we had to run 30' of sewer hose to reach the utility. Also, in the back of the park was a section of seasonal (permanent?) sites, the roads there were gravel, the RVs shoehorned in extremely close and gave a shoddy impression to the whole park. $50 a night for a crowded RV park that backs up to a major freeway seemed a bit over the top to us. Some folks said it was the best in OKC. But that didn't make it a good deal. We camped at Twin Fountains RV Park in a Motorhome.

Autumn Woods RV Park, Rochester, Minnesota

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This RV park's claim to fame is it's proximity to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. it's a fairly nice smaller park that meets your needs but nothing more. At $48 a night it rates an "average" review. We've stayed in much nicer RV parks for $20 less per night. We had a pull-thru gravel site with full hookups. The sites are close together, but easy to access and just long enough for our 38' RV and our car (unhooked). It's not a park we'd return to. Rather, we'd try to find something nicer in the area. We camped at Autumn Woods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

It's a pretty State Park, but seems high priced for the condition of the park. On the weekend, for non-residents, it's $42 a night PLUS $16 a day per person for entry in the park. And, in spite of the high price the sites are electric only. Not even water at your site for this high price. Finding a level site is very difficult - very. Some are so far out of level that they would simply be unusable for many trailers, 5th wheels or motorhomes. In the Quartzite loop about 20% of the sites are paved with asphalt. They are a bit more level than others but still not level front to back or side to side. The other 80% of the sites are "gravel" but very overgrown with grass. It's been a while since new gravel was laid. The sites are skinny, short and grossly out of level. It is an interesting part of the state and the lake is very pretty. So are the rock cliffs surrounding the lake. Checking with other private campgrounds in the area it seems that high prices are the norm and there are not a number of quality RV parks to choose from. We camped at Devil's Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Gulf Waters RV Resort, Port Aransas, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

Great "ownership" park that rents out sites just a stone's throw from the beach and Gulf of Mexico in Port Aransas, TX. There are a couple hundreds RV sites, many of them developed nicely with patios and kitchens. There are 3 ponds with RV sites spread around the pond and palm trees. You pull in and your windshield faces the pond. Our site is close to the wide, safe, boardwalk that takes you over the barrier dunes to the beach. You can rent a golf cart in town, store it in your RV site and even drive it on the boardwalk to the beach if you wish. Everything is clean and well groomed. and worth the $64 a night for our 6-night stay. There is a weekly and monthly rate as well if you're staying longer. Many of the sites are owned by "snowbirds" and full all winter, but available for rent during the shoulder seasons and the Summer. We highly recommend this place. PS. We were here 12 yers ago or so, and left a not so good review then, but everything amiss then has been put right now. We camped at Gulf Waters RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Anchor Down RV Resort, Dandridge, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $68.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here last year and LOVED it. This year not so much. The issue was the CROWDED conditions. It was a weekend, in the fall, with nice weather and it was jammed packed with RVs, pickup trucks, golf carts, dogs, kids and partying.

We didn't really notice how close the sites were together the last time, but with the crowd this time you couldn't help be be tripping over your neighbors constantly.

The facilities are nice. The sites with fireplaces are great. The bathrooms are very nice but too few when it's full like this.

They still make you crawl under your RV to put pads under your levelers and if you don't have them they'll lend you some and make sure you use them. I sure don't see this at other RV parks.

They built a new dog park and that's great. However, they need to put a double-gated entrance-way into the park. Without it, you have to make sure to grab your dog and hang on anytime anyone comes into the dog park - or out the single door they go.

We'd come back again - but not on a weekend or anytime it would be full up. We camped at Anchor Down RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Stopped in here for the night. Ugh. Good luck finding a site anywhere near level. And the sites are too close together, too narrow and just sub-standard. The only bathrooms are in the office (closed 5pm to 9 am). We've stayed in other casino campgrounds and found them to be great - but not this one.

For some reason they put the sewer connection at the far back side of the site. It takes 30' of sewer hose to reach it.

We had to move 4 times during set up to try to find just one site that would level enough with hydraulic levelers so out slide would operate. The nearby big box store might be a better option than this place. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Motorhome.
