Buena Vista KOA, Buena Vista, Colorado

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Prbly the best commerical campground in the area since it isn't right on US 24 which is a very busy road. As mentioned before the interior is dirt and some of the smaller sites are oddly placed but the pull thru sites are easy to access and fairly level. The biggest positives are it is quiet and has stunning views of Mt. Princeton and the Collegiate Peaks. The park is about 10 minutes from the town of Buena Vista which has a cute old downtown and a nice riverfront park. We camped at Buena Vista KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Dolores River Campground, Dolores, Colorado

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Nice shady park right on the Dolores River. We stayed twice this year in riverfront RV sites which are worth the extra cost. Showers and grounds are always kept clean and the owners are very nice, personable folks. Once a week in summer they host various food trucks including a portable pizza oven, the ones we've tried were very good and a nice convenience since the town is fairly small. We camped at Dolores River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

60 miles to Telluride the most beautiful of the CO mountain towns IMHO. Park in the ski village and ride the free (dog friendly) gondola down to the old town. 20 miles to Mesa Verde NP and amazing place with ancient cliff dwellings. Numerous other historic sites in the Cortez area, stop in the office/store to review their impressive collection of maps and brochures.

Glenwood Springs West / Colorado River KOA, Silt, Colorado

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Nice open park right on the Colorado River. Close to I-70 for easy access to Glenwood Springs and environs although the park is 19 miles from downtown. The back-in riverfront patio sites are very nice and right on the river. Everything in the park was spotlessly clean. We camped at Glenwood Springs West / Colorado River KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Custer State Park - Legion Lake Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Very pretty little campground set across the road from Legion Lake. Spotlessly clean campground and bathrooms with showers. A number of hiking trails start from the campground, there is a small restaurant and shop across the road at the visitor center, and wildlife including the occasional 2,000 lb. American Bison abound. We camped at Custer State Park - Legion Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful campground located at the base of the largest mountain (Sopris) in the area and with the Crystal River running behind it. The new bathhouse is one of the nicest we've seen and the back-in patio sites are really a bargain @ $42 a night with VKR discount. We camped at Carbondale / Crystal River KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Silver Summit RV Park and Campground, Silverton, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Owners were pleasant and the bathrooms/showers were clean and functional. The sites are very close together but long enough to accommodate and size rig. Between the first row and the RR tracks is a large grassy field where you can park other vehicles and run your pups. The park is within walking distance of downtown Silverton where shops and restaurants abound. We camped at Silver Summit RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Canyonlands Needles Outpost and Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Canyonlands National Park, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is in a beautiful setting, the views from any campsite are spectacular, and in the back of the campground is a huge red rock formation that you can climb on if so inclined (easiest access is between campsites #1 & 2. The good news is the campground takes reservations, has a shower house ($3 for 5 min.), a dump station, a small store and a gas pump ($6/gal.), they allow campfires and it borders Canyonlands National Park (the visitor center is 3 miles away). You can see the Needles rock formations from the campground which is excellent especially at sunset. The bad news is that water, gasoline, and all sundries must be hauled in from either Moab (80 miles) or Monticello (50 miles) so they are priced accordingly. The bathhouse needs renovation--while we were there only 1 of 2 showers and toilets in the women's room were working and one of the sinks in the men's room didn't work at all, the other merely drizzled cold water from the faucet. The owner (concessionaire) was friendly and apologetic about the lack of potable water for sale. I have mixed feelings about the place, it is in a beautiful setting and has a few amenities that you can't get for another 50 miles, but the lack of maintenance and potable water are big negatives. Still, if you have a rig that is longer than 30' you don't have many choices in this amazingly beautiful area. There are a number of BLM campgrounds on UT 211, but some cannot accommodate large rigs and none have water, dump stations, or garbage pickup. The NP campground has very few large sites and no dump station but it does have water. We camped at Canyonlands Needles Outpost and Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.

Sleeping Ute RV Park (formerly Ute Mountain Casino RV Park), Towaoc, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Clean, quiet RV park good for an overnight stop on the way from the Moab UT area to Monument Valley and points SW. Clean restrooms, full hookups, the usual discounts, and some decent views of the surrounding cliffs and Sleeping Ute Mountain. The casino looks nice from the hotel lobby and there is a sit-down restaurant there which we didn't try. Sites are a bit short and close together, not a problem for us but with a large MH or 5th wheel folks had to park their toads/tow vehicles sideways into the lanes. We camped at Sleeping Ute RV Park (formerly Ute Mountain Casino RV Park) in a Travel Trailer.

Catalina State Park, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Arizona state parks are the cleanest and nicest state parks we've ever seen and this one was no exception. Easy trails lead from the campground to the Catalina Mountains where a nice variety of desert flora and fauna make their homes. The showers are free and well maintained (CO and CA state parks take note) and everything in the park was well maintained. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Travel Trailer.

OK RV Park & Canyonlands Stables, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Nice clean & quiet park well away from the highway (the only one in Moab that isn't right on US 191.) Spaces are fairly tight and close together, but with great views of the red rocks in the area. The restrooms were spotless and everything seemed to work. As in most places in Utah the owners were very friendly. An especially good choice for horse owners since stables and places to ride are nearby. We camped at OK RV Park & Canyonlands Stables in a Travel Trailer.

Taos Valley RV Park & Campground, Taos, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Clean and quiet on the outskirts of town. The managers are friendly and helpful and pretty laid back. The sites are close together as in any other privately-owned RV park but there is some nice high desert vegetation between sites and it is Taos so everyone is pretty chill. It is our go-to place when visiting Taos. Note there is a 10% Discount off Daily Rates for AAA, AARP, Military, FQCC, Good Sam, Full Time Student. Angel Fire RV Resort, Angel Fire, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

Truly an RV resort, Angel Fire RV Resort offers a 1st class camping experience for a price. Sites are nicely spaced apart with very nice landscaping. A walking trail circles the park and access to National Forest trails is less than a mile away. Bathrooms are the nicest we've ever seen and there is a hot tub and gas fire pit just outside the bathhouse. Daily garbage pickup, a nice dog park, walking trail around the park and easy access to US forest and the town of Angel Fire. The US highways in are narrow and twisty but well maintained. We camped at Angel Fire RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

East Fork Campground, Pagosa Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice & quiet campground but sites are extremely un-level. Some bigger rigs were there but many of the "pullout" sites are really just on the interior road so be careful with slideouts that jut into the road. Pit toilets only and water is via a ranch style hand pump. Better to drive to West Fork Campground about 3 miles east and fill up there. We camped at East Fork Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Bridge Campground, Pagosa Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Nice location and views from some sites but the site we were in (#2) while it appeared level took ever block in the kit to get even close to level. Interior roads are dusty dirt as is Piedra Road (Ct/FS 631) so expect dust clouds when others drive past. Didn't fill up on the weekend but with a big rig better get there before the weekend to find a spot. Higher number sites are more big rig friendly but tough to find open since the stay limit here is 28 days. We camped at Bridge Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

The park is in a beautiful setting close (6 miles) to Breckenridge (one of the prettiest mtn. towns in CO) hence the California pricing. The park is neat and clean but the sites are close together. Bathrooms and showers are clean and well-maintained as is the pool & hot tub. River sites have nice views of the mountains opposite, and there is a hiking trailhead near the back of the resort.
