Akron/Canton Jellystone Park Camp Resort, Uniontown, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We were not at all impressed with this park. I can't speak to the daily/transient sites which may be fine but we were in the long term/seasonal sites and they were not very nice. I was very specific when I called in May for the reservations that we had a 41' trailer that we pulled with a 1-ton dually, extended cab, long bed truck and needed a lot of room to back into a space. Obviously, the person taking reservations had no idea what I was talking about since the site she reserved for us was impossible to get in to. We spent almost an hour riding around with one of the staff, trying to find a place we could fit. A lot of the sites didn't even have sewer - they provide a large "tank" and pump it once a week. The site we finally decided on was OK but not level at all and the hookups were a long ways away; we had to use every bit of electric cable, hose, and sewer line that we had to reach them. Our site was not mowed even once during the month we were there. The sites across from us were so poor that there were big puddles of water lying in them and the mosquitos were terrible. I was disappointed to find that the pool and playgrounds were across a fairly main, busy road and didn't feel safe having the grandkids cross it to get to the activities. Wi-fi was slow and not very reliable and there was no cable although we did pull in quite a few channels by the antenna. We have been camping for many years and I have never had a campground take the entire month's fee on the day I made the reservations; so we paid for August back in May. I would have expected some sort of deposit but not the entire fee. Also, we asked if we could come in a little earlier than their 2:00 check-in time since we had a function we wanted to attend in the area. They were not at all accommodating about it and finally agreed that we could come in "after 1:00", even though there was nobody on the site we were assigned to. We won't be back. We camped at Akron/Canton Jellystone Park Camp Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Gettysburg Campground, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park and very reasonably priced compared to most in the Gettysburg area. We spent a week here while visiting the battleground and other historic sights. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and everyone was very friendly. The pool was exceptional! Our site was fairly level gravel, with full hook-ups which all worked well. We were able to get quite a few channels, both on cable and by antenna. They have an on-site RV repair which came in handy when we needed a small repair to our rain gutter thanks to apparently brushing a low-hanging limb somewhere on our trip there. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Gettysburg Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tanbark Campground, Dickson, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a really bare-bones park which is what we usually prefer. There were a lot of permanent residents and many of them were not very well maintained. They are not really set up for big rigs; we had trouble getting around with our 41' rig. The utilities worked well and the staff was friendly and helpful. The road leading to the park looks to have been recently paved, leaving a huge drop-off to the driveway. The entrance is on a curve so you have to take a chance pulling in or out and we actually put a dent under the front of the trailer where it hit the end of the truck bed because the drop was so steep and you had to hurry because of the curve. I doubt if we would stay here again. We camped at Tanbark Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Little Rock North / Jct. I-40 KOA, North Little Rock, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty typical KOA; curvy paved roads with lots of trees. Our site was a "premium" with a patio, wrought iron table and chairs, propane grill, outdoor fireplace and picnic table. All utilities were convenient and worked well. The cable TV stations didn't match the listing they gave us but we were able to get quite a few and also several more by the antenna. Wi-fi was strong. Staff was helpful and we were escorted to our site. It was very easy off and on from both the beltway and I-40. We had room for our tow vehicle, trailer and our extra car on the site. We really have mixed feelings about KOAs in general; you can count on a nice site - although often fairly small - but the price for just an overnight stay usually has us looking elsewhere when possible. There are not a lot of campgrounds in this area so we would probably stay here again. We camped at Little Rock North / Jct. I-40 KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lazy L RV Park, Sherman, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

We spent several months here over the winter and really liked the park. The owner/manager couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. The roads are gravel but they work hard keeping them maintained. Our site was level gravel and plenty long enough to park while unhooked. Plus there is overflow parking nearby. All utilities worked well and were conveniently located. We paid $25/month extra for cable TV. The wi-fi didn't reach past the first couple of rows of sites so we paid $50/month for internet through the cable company. Our electric bill was between $140 and $180 per month and we used approx. $20 worth of propane every week or so since it was an unusually cold winter. The people were friendly and we had great neighbors. The laundry was small with only 4 washers and 6 dryers but inexpensive at $1.25 per washer load and $1.25 to $1.50 per dryer load. I doubt if we will stay here again since we plan on going farther south next time to get away from the cold but would certainly stop here for an overnight stay if in the area. We camped at Lazy L RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

New Lisbon Family Campground, Straughn, Indiana

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice little park and much appreciated in the late fall since it's one of the few that is still open until the end of November. The water is off but it's still a great overnight stop for anyone heading south and needing a place with electric and sewer hook-ups. Owners are on-site and very friendly and helpful. Our site was level gravel and hook-ups were conveniently located. There are improvements each time we stop here and they definitely work hard to make visitors feel welcome. Most of the new sites are pull-thrus. There are quite a few permanent sites back in the woods but they seem to be well maintained. We camped at New Lisbon Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Indianapolis KOA, Greenfield, Indiana

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This is pretty much a typical KOA except for the service....the people at the desk were exceptional!! We pulled in a matter of minutes before closing but they still greeted us with big smiles and offered to make us a pizza and deliver it to our site. Then, when we went to pull into our site, a huge rock was in the way. It had obviously been hit by someone who didn't bother to let the staff know. So, I ran back up to the office and stopped the young people who were closing up and getting into their cars. They gladly got the backhoe out and came down - in the still pouring rain - to move the rock so we could get parked. Service like that is rare and much appreciated. The site itself was plenty long enough and fairly level gravel. All hook-ups were convenient and worked well. We didn't bother to hook up the cable but were able to get many channels from the antenna. The wi-fi was good. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Indianapolis KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Sierra RV Park, Telephone, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a relatively new park and is very much a work in progress. Right now, there are only back-in sites but the road and the sites are plenty wide to get backed in with no problem. Road and sites are both gravel and, due to the excessive rain the past couple of months, are rutted. The owner, who has to be one of the nicest people we've ever met, assures me that restrooms, showers, and wifi are in the works. The park is actually located in Telephone, TX but the nearest town is Bonham. It's about 8 miles off a main road (Route 78) and was amazingly quiet. The only sounds were crickets. The utilities all worked well and the water was the softest we've ever found in a campground anywhere. I would love to come back in a year or so and see what progress has been made. We camped at Sierra RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

San Angelo KOA, San Angelo, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We really liked this park. In some ways, it was a typical KOA, roads and sites were level gravel but pretty close together. There were some "premium" sites with much more space, patios, and fences between sites. The tent sites were very nice with raised spots and plenty of parking. The recycling center was great! I was absolutely thrilled to find an affordable KOA. We travel a lot and often avoid KOAs because of the expense. All utilities, including cable and wifi worked well and we were escorted to our site. Staff was very helpful, giving city maps and offering suggestions. The restrooms and showers were ceramic tile and very clean. There was even a huge handicapped shower stall. The laundry was small, with only 6 washers and dryers but very economical at $1.25 per washer and $1.00 per dryer. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at San Angelo KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lost Alaskan RV Park, Alpine, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

What a beautiful park! Wide paved roads and long, level gravel sites. Very friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to add another day to our reservation and recommended a good local (Mexican) restaurant. We were escorted to our site. Very nice pool (which closed the first week of October) and large playground. Huge dog park although there were no separate areas for large and small dogs. There is a very nice community building which would be great for group get-togethers. The laundry was fairly large and clean and, although we didn't check the restrooms and showers, I'm sure they would have been clean and well-maintained due to the general condition of the park. Almost all sites are pull-thrus and the few back-ins around one edge of the park look to be permanent residents. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lost Alaskan RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rockin R RV Park, Brady, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice little park but only if you're self-contained. There are no restrooms or showers. The sites are long, level sand with some shade trees and all utilities worked well. There is no cable and we were only able to pull in 3 channels on the antenna but wi-fi signal was strong. The pull-thru sites are very close but the back-ins are much more roomy. There are quite a few permanent residents but their sites were well-kept and there was no disturbance of any kind. There was some road noise since it's very close to the main route into Brady and is used by many big trucks hauling sand. We camped at Rockin R RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bar J Hitchin Post RV, Sweetwater, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is the second time we have stayed at this park and will be back. It's small without a lot of amenities but very nice for an overnight or couple of days' stay. The sites are long, fairly level gravel with quite a bit of space between them and some large trees for shade. All utilities worked well, including cable and wi-fi. Staff is friendly and helpful and trash is picked up daily from your site. It is across the road from a large Love's truck stop and close to the interstate so there is some road noise plus a nearby train track but we didn't find it too loud with the windows closed and the A/C running. We camped at Bar J Hitchin Post RV in a Fifth Wheel.

America's Best Campground, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We come to Branson twice a year for anywhere from a week to a month. This is the first time we have stayed at this campground but it definitely won't be the last. Sites are a little close but nice and shady. Staff was really helpful and friendly. All utilities worked well, including wi-fi and cable. Restrooms and showers were huge and extremely clean and well-maintained. Roads and sites were gravel but fairly level - or at least as level as anything can be in Branson. The laundry was very large and clean. The pool and hot tub were beautiful. Even as large as they are, they do fill up, especially on weekends, so reserve early. There is a car/RV wash on the premises. Trash is picked up at your site every day. There is a large building for gatherings. We camped at America's Best Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Little Turtle RV & Storage, Eufaula, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We travel from the Dallas area to Branson, MO a couple of times each year and have not had much luck finding nice campgrounds along the way. Now that we have found Little Turtle, we won't even consider staying anywhere else. What a beautiful campground! Extremely long, concrete sites with well-situated utilities. Exceptionally nice laundry and gorgeous pool. Staff is very friendly and helpful. There are some large trees for shade and many more have been planted and will be providing nice shade in a few more years. Wi-fi worked well but there are only a few cable channels and we were unable to pull in anything by the antenna since we are quite a ways from any city. We will definitely be back. If ever in need of tire service (we had a tire blow out on our fifth-wheel trailer on the way to the campground), go to Tire1One in Checotah. They were wonderful! Got us right in first thing Monday morning and replaced our tire for a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend them.

St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA, Eureka, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

This is pretty much a standard KOA; small sites, very close together. But, two things were outstanding; the tent sites and the recycling center. The tent sites were raised above ground level and filled with mulch and had nice wooden benches around the grills. The recycling center was especially nice. We try to recycle whenever we can but it seems that most campgrounds don't bother. All utilities, including cable and wi-fi worked well. We were escorted to our site and staff was helpful and friendly. There is a dog park available but it was at the complete opposite end of the park from our site so we didn't visit it.
