Santa's Whispering Pines Campground, Bracebridge, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $74.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here to attend an Ironman event in nearby Huntsville. Most people stay to visit Santa's Village amusement park across the street. The campground has two sections. The lower section is on the main road and is loaded with pine trees, narrow roads and close together campsites. The upper section is a bit more spread out and has a playground and the pool. We stayed in the lower section. The campsites only have electricity and water. There is a dump on site. The staff and fellow campers were very nice and helpful. The Christmas theme decorations throughout are understated. We swam in the Muskoka River which is across the street. Santa and Mrs. Claus visit the campground in a red golf cart every morning, stopping to greet every child. Campground literature says that you can then go across the street to have breakfast with Santa at the Village. What it doesn't tell you is that you also have to pay to enter the amusement park as well as pay to have breakfast. Since our grandson was two and too young for most of the rides, they let us come in for free with the promise that we would leave after breakfast. There is a multipurpose room with a piano, and toys that seems to be a congregating spot for the kids. They were having lots of fun. For the value of what you get, this campground is overpriced. We camped at Santa's Whispering Pines Campground in a Motorhome.

Hammondsport / Bath KOA, Bath, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $89.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in this KOA twice in about two weeks. The first night was July 4, and we needed a spot to get off the road. The snack bar was selling pork barbeque meals and yummy ice cream (only 4 varieties). A week or so later we passed through again and having liked it so much before, we stayed for two nights. The snack/ice cream bar were closed. The campground has two pools - one outfitted with a spray park and the other more like the pools that you find at most campgrounds. The mini-golf looked fun and was operational. We never found the path down to the pond, though we looked. This campground recently changed hands and you can see where the owners have been working to spruce up the place. They still have a ways to go, but seem to be on the right track. Our first campsite was gravel and our second campsite was grass. There are mature trees throughout which provide lovely shade, as well as newer trees that don't cast much shade yet. Staff were very, very helpful. The road from the Interstate takes a few turns through town, one at a "Y" in the road, where we should have gone left and went right instead. We camped at Hammondsport / Bath KOA in a Motorhome.

Niagara Falls KOA, Niagara Falls, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here overnight as we were passing through. The campground is large with grass sites and enough (but not alot) of space between sites. Since we were just stopping for the night, we took a water/electric only site. There are two outdoor pools and one indoor pool. There is a patio bar, that was closed while we were there. There are lots of kid activities. The numbers identifying our site were visible from the side we would exit from, not from our entrance side, so we had to count from landmarks to make sure we were in the right site. We camped at Niagara Falls KOA in a Motorhome.

Fort Chiswell RV Park, Max Meadows, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of our go-to stops along I-81. It is close to the highway, but you don't hear highway noise. The campground is surrounded on three sides by grazing fields for cows and sheep, but you don't get any of their stink. So, it is a nice spot with level campsites to stop for the night. Utilities work great. Staff is competent. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Hornsby Hollow, Ten Mile, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is our third stay at this campground that we just love. This time we stopped by at the last minute, and still had a great stay. Our site was not waterfront, but was on a hill. So we looked over the top of the waterfronters across the street to the see the lovely lake. There were still plenty of access points for swimming, swimming the dog and launching our kayaks. The folks who run the campground are so kind, thoughtful and helpful. We are already planning our next trip back. We camped at Hornsby Hollow in a Motorhome.

Southlake RV Park, Knoxville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We needed a spot in Knoxville while we visited a family member. We arrived in the dark and were led to a narrow, unlit campsite in the woods. It took us forever to back in in the dark. The area where we were parking was overgrown with greenery, so there were no "edges" to line up on. We were assured that there was no poison ivy when we waded back in the greenery to attach our electricity. We waited til the next day for water. Glad we did, the place was loaded with the stuff. A terrible storm had passed through 24 hours before our arrival, and the place was loaded with huge puddles that never drained in all 3 days that we were there. The campsites are close together, and some of them have full-time residents that you might not want to camp next to. There was no room in our campsite to park our tow car, so I went looking for the "overflow parking" area. After two times driving through the campground looking for it, I asked at the office and got directions that didn't result in a parking area. Not sure where they were sending me. I think this is only the second review out of many that I've written where I had to struggle to find nice things to say about the campground. We camped at Southlake RV Park in a Motorhome.

Natural Bridge / Lexington KOA, Natural Bridge, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

We run I-81 a lot, and have stayed at this KOA several times before. Each time we come they are building some new sites, or in this case cabins, so the place is growing and improving. We were put in one of the pull through sites down below in a dished out level area. There is no landscaping in this area, though there is a playground. A good spot to stop for the night. We camped at Natural Bridge / Lexington KOA in a Motorhome.

Memphis East Campground, Lakeland, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

As mentioned in other reviews, this campground is a few sites in the middle of a trailer park. The park is quiet and safe and pretty well maintained. There are a few trailers that look suspicious, but generally it is a nice place. We stopped for the night. The Mississippi had flooded the campground where we had stayed before in Memphis, so we tried this one. It was fine. Nothing special. We camped at Memphis East Campground in a Motorhome.

Nashville KOA, Nashville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

This is a resort KOA, complete with fancy swimming pool, live music at night and many things for the kids to do. We were stopping for 2 nights while we did a bit of business in town, and it was a pleasant place to stay. Our campsite was on the outside edge, and there was some poison ivy peeking through the fence. We needed to make some repairs to our tow apparatus, right where the poison ivy lived. Yuk. This is our second stop here, and we found it to be very comfortable. We camped at Nashville KOA in a Motorhome.

Cortez / Mesa Verde KOA, Cortez, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Wow, wow, wow, what a wonderful, clean, attractive, well managed KOA. Our campsite was spacious, the utilities worked great. The campground is nicely landscaped and is a short walk along a trail to a lovely, large public dog park and nearby lake. Mesa Verde National Park is a short (well for Colorado) drive away. Staff were helpful. We loved it here. We camped at Cortez / Mesa Verde KOA in a Motorhome.

USA RV Park, Gallup, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Our tow vehicle had a flat tire, so we stayed in Gallup overnight while it got repaired. This campground is almost 100% gravel. The campsites are close together. There weren't many other campers there when we were there, otherwise it would have felt crowded. The Barbeque wasn't open yet, but they did give us the menu for a good pizza spot that delivered. The campground is on old Route 66, which is kind of run down at this spot. Not many places to stop for a meal nearby. Office has an extensive gift shop with Native American jewelry and other expensive things. All in all, we were glad to a clean, safe place to make an unscheduled stop. We camped at USA RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tucumcari KOA, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We pulled in for an overnight stop as tornadoes were forecast for the region. As we checked in, the staff informed us about where to find shelter in the event of a tornado. A bit unnerving, but was glad to know. Storm passed elsewhere. A quiet spot to stop for the night after a day of hard driving on I-40. We were grateful. Campsites are level, mostly grass and the utilities are easy to reach. We camped at Tucumcari KOA in a Motorhome.

Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA, Enfield, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here twice, once heading South on I-95 and again returning North. It is a good campground for getting off the road. Access is close to the highway, but, as other reviewers have mentioned, you don't hear road noise. When we stayed heading South we were in site 13 which was $50 before the KOA discount and heading North we were in site 34 which was $52. So, if you don't need 50 amp service, you might ask. Our sites were level and the utilities were OK. Site 34 had the sewer hook up at the rear of the site, so we didn't use it though we had planned to. Site 34 needs an extra long hose. When we stayed here a few years ago the campground was up for sale. Now it is listed as "under new management". When I checked in I was greeted by someone eating fried chicken. Two other employees were there and not eating, but greasy fingers was the one who checked me in. These things make a difference. One of the other employees did give me helpful anecdotal weather news collected from other folks getting off the road (snow to the north, rain to the south) which I appreciated. There is NO gas or food nearby so plan ahead. We camped at Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA in a Motorhome.

A Big Wheel RV Park, Saint Marys, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

A lovely, small, well maintained campground with winding roads and live oaks draped in Spanish Moss. We arrived after the office closed, so were told to just take our site when we got there, which we did. No resort folderol here - just a nice, quiet campground full of pleasant people. Our concrete slab site was level and the utilities were convenient. The staff was very helpful. We found an excellent dog sitter who lives in town, you can get her name at the office. We camped at A Big Wheel RV Park in a Motorhome.
