Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA, Enfield, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here twice, once heading South on I-95 and again returning North. It is a good campground for getting off the road. Access is close to the highway, but, as other reviewers have mentioned, you don't hear road noise. When we stayed heading South we were in site 13 which was $50 before the KOA discount and heading North we were in site 34 which was $52. So, if you don't need 50 amp service, you might ask. Our sites were level and the utilities were OK. Site 34 had the sewer hook up at the rear of the site, so we didn't use it though we had planned to. Site 34 needs an extra long hose. When we stayed here a few years ago the campground was up for sale. Now it is listed as "under new management". When I checked in I was greeted by someone eating fried chicken. Two other employees were there and not eating, but greasy fingers was the one who checked me in. These things make a difference. One of the other employees did give me helpful anecdotal weather news collected from other folks getting off the road (snow to the north, rain to the south) which I appreciated. There is NO gas or food nearby so plan ahead. We camped at Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA in a Motorhome.

A Big Wheel RV Park, Saint Marys, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

A lovely, small, well maintained campground with winding roads and live oaks draped in Spanish Moss. We arrived after the office closed, so were told to just take our site when we got there, which we did. No resort folderol here - just a nice, quiet campground full of pleasant people. Our concrete slab site was level and the utilities were convenient. The staff was very helpful. We found an excellent dog sitter who lives in town, you can get her name at the office. We camped at A Big Wheel RV Park in a Motorhome.

Benner's Meadow Run Camping & Cabins, Farmington, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

It had rained for days before we arrived, so the campground was quite muddy. The rain continued on and off for most of our stay - which is not the fault of the campground. They put straw down on the super muddy spots. Check in was quick and easy. It was October, so most of the campers were decorating for the trick-or-treaters on Saturday night. We bought candy and shared the fun. Our campsite was level and easy to enter and exit. Utilities were convenient. The firewood we bought was damp and hard to light. At the time we were there, a bridge on the road to the campground was "out", and they gave us directions for how to go on other roads to get to them. Might be a good idea to verify that the bridge has been rebuilt and that your gps directions will work. We camped at Benner's Meadow Run Camping & Cabins in a Motorhome.

Shawnee State Park, Schellsburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

We love state parks with full hook ups. This RV camping area is very new looking and well kept. It is on a gentle slope with terraced camping sites, which are mostly level. The tent camping areas are a bit more primitive looking. It is a huge park around a lake. There were areas around the lake where you could not walk your dog. The beach was closed to everyone - people or dogs. Our campsite utilities were convenient. We talked to a "regular" who said that the campsite is very full in the summer and on weekends. We can believe it. Mid-week in October it was mostly empty and very pleasant. We camped at Shawnee State Park in a Motorhome.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Luray, Luray, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This is a huge, super clean, family focused RV resort with many, many nicely maintained cabin units. Most of the campground is on a slope, overlooking the water park and other activities below and near the office. The campsites have been terraced so that your rig is on a level area. The utilities are convenient. Check in is very fast and professional. The entire process has been put in place to handle droves of guests. We were there mid-week. The end of the week, many families arrived to decorate for Halloween. It is a very big deal at this park, and families reserve 12 months in advance to get spots near their friends. That said, they were very friendly and welcoming to us. We did not stay for the trick or treat fest that was to come. We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Luray in a Motorhome.

Natural Bridge / Lexington KOA, Natural Bridge, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very easy campground for a night stop off the road on I-81. It is right at the exit, but you don't hear a lot of highway noise. We pulled in as part of a parade of folks getting off the road for the night. We've stopped here before, and were once again greeted by professional and well-organized staff. Our campsite was right next to a new looking bath house and laundry that we don't remember from before. They were also building 3 new cottages. It seems like every time we stop here there is something new and improved. Our sewer hook up was little far back, so we had to put the extension on the hose, not a big deal. We camped at Natural Bridge / Lexington KOA in a Motorhome.

Hornsby Hollow, Ten Mile, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at the fabulous campground in August 2017 for the eclipse and vowed to return to camp with our daughter and her young family, who live nearby. So we did a year later! Our campsite was right on the water. Since it was early September the campground was almost empty during the week, and very sedate during the weekend. Our campsite was right on the water. We saw a bald eagle fishing and king fishers zooming about. We had a resident heron on an island across the water who we watched all day, and a friendly wren who hopped around our campsite. It was calm and peaceful, even on a rainy evening. We kayaked and swam right off of our campsite, though we could have gone to the nearby swimming area had we wanted. The campground provides water and electricity. For $20, an attendant will come with his Honey Wagon and drain your holding tanks. Since we had a bunch of family members sharing our campsite in a tent, we saw a lot of him. They charge $10 for each night a tent shares your campsite. After Labor Day, if you stay for 7 nights, the last two nights are free. I almost don't want to rave too much about this lovely place. If you like beautiful scenery, access to water for sports and bird watching, and uncomplicated camping, this is the spot for you. We camped at Hornsby Hollow in a Motorhome.

Sugar Hollow Campground, Bristol, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a lovely, forested campground nestled in a huge community park, but not too far off of the highway. When you enter the park look for small, low, brown signs directing you to the campground. The campsites are almost level (this is a hilly area). All campsites have electricity, and most do not have water. So, plan to use the water you bring. There are a few water access points that nearby campsites use (via splitters) for water hookups. We arrived after it had been reopened after being evacuated for a hurricane and so shared it with only a handful of lucky campers. The older man at the gate was extremely helpful and suggested some sites that would be appropriate for our rig. We then went on to choose our site, he drove by later and marked down where we were camped. We stopped here to get off the road for the night and felt like we had hit a gem. We will definitely stay here again. We camped at Sugar Hollow Campground in a Motorhome.

Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort, Cape Charles, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second stay here, the previous one in 2015. We had a wonderful campsite (11) that was just one campsite away from the water and the dog beach. Since we have a swimming dog we (all) swam there every day. It was a quiet area and a huge campsite. Some parts of the campground have close quarters, this one does not. We were fortunate that no one was in site 12, so we had an unobstructed view of the water, and a gentle breeze. There are lots of things to do here, boating, fishing (with a great bait and tackle shop), paddle boats, swimming, relaxing. Fresh seafood and vegetables are sold on site and there is a little eatery. Worth a stop. We reserved and paid ahead of time so we didn't have to get out of our rig to check in. They had our paperwork for us at the entrance shack. Very convenient. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tom's Cove Park, Chincoteague, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We brought our granddaughter here to see the Chincoteague ponies. It was after the pony swim, so the campground had lots of open spaces mid- week even though it was still summer vacay time. We printed out the online form and mailed it in ahead of time. Our site had water, electric and sewer and had a good view of the water. This was our second time camping here and we were once again pleased with the service and location. It isn't a "pretty" campground, but it is useable and well located. We camped at Tom's Cove Park in a Motorhome.

Old Shipyard Beach Campground, Spencers Island, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This unique, tiny campground is built on a narrow high strip of land along the gravel shoreline of the Bay of Fundy. There is one line of 27 campsites and a few cabins. The internal road separates your campsite from the beach and the water. Your fire pit is on the beach side of the road and everyone has their chairs set up to watch the tides come in and go out. Twice at low tide we saw a Bald Eagle come down and eat a fish stranded by the enormous Fundy tides. With so few campsites, everyone is friendly. Within minutes we were included in a kids scavenger hunt, engaged in a discussion of the Stanley Cup, and invited to watch the sunset. The managers maintain an authentic lighthouse on the property, and light it each night. The light didn't bother us. We happened upon this special place because we needed a spot to spend the night before heading to the Joggins Fossil Institute (wow, wow, wow) the next day. Boy did we luck out. Just you, 27 of your closest friends and the magnificent Bay of Fundy. If we are EVER in the area again, we WILL stay here. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Twin Shores Camping Area, Kensington, Prince Edward Island

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $69.00
Overall Rating:

This huge, city of a campground is located on a peninsula. Some campsites (where we were) look at the Darnley Basin and other adjoin the Gulf of St. Lawrence. There is a cafe, a huge laundromat, a small store, an arcade, a huge play area, a sand beach, mussels and music on Friday night. Most of the seasonal folks come from "inland" less than an hour away. We were there for Canada Day and were treated to fireworks. There were children everywhere on bicycles. Everyone was so friendly and civil. Our campsite was level and useful. We had a spectacular view of the sunset over the Basin. So beautiful. It was very convenient to the western part of PEI. And, gosh, can't say enough about how gorgeous Prince Edward Island is. We will definitely be staying here again. We camped at Twin Shores Camping Area in a Motorhome.

Glooscap Campground, Parrsboro, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

A funky, older municipal campground, with an incredible, world-class view of the Bay of Fundy and easy access to the pebble beach and tide line. They don't take US credit cards or checks, so bring Canadian cash. We didn't have enough so we paid a bit in US $ as well. The manager is helpful. There are a lot of seasonal spots, but (as mentioned in other reviews) they save some very nice ones for visitors. We were in site 15, which had a spectacular view, and pulled you in so that your door faced the view. The road to the campground from Parrsboro is not for the faint hearted. We camped at Glooscap Campground in a Motorhome.

Loch Lomond RV Park, Amherst, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has a ton of seasonal sites and a few visitors sites. There had been a lot of rain when we were there and the ground was a bit soggy and the mosquitoes were plentiful. Our site was sort of in the middle of a donut, so you felt like you were driving through someone else's yard to get to your site (as designated by your utilities). There wasn't really a driveway, just grass. We stayed here so we could see the tiny Tidal Bore nearby. A lovely elderly gent lives nearby and comes to talk to you about the Bore, which was marvelous. We camped at Loch Lomond RV Park in a Motorhome.

Ponderosa Pines Family Campground, Hopewell Cape, New Brunswick

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is just minutes away from the incredible Hopewell Rocks in the Bay of Fundy. It has many seasonal spots and quite a few spots of visitors. The campground has two cute small "lakes", and also access (across wetlands) to the Bay of Fundy. There were quite a few tent campers. The campground is rustic, but has all of the amenities that you need. The staff are young, and not especially helpful. However, it all boils down to location, and this one has a good one. We camped at Ponderosa Pines Family Campground in a Motorhome.
