Fort Pickens Campground, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Absolutely beautiful area with lots to do in park. Beaches are lovely and some are quite secluded. Lots of birds and wildlife. Blue Angels practice over Fort. Wonderful! This is not a resort so don't expect perfect. Its old with narrow roads, older bathhouses and sand every where. The staff was friendly and the facilities were pretty clean considering usage. Its a great value. We had to park our truck in overflow due to shorter site. Thats okay. We'll be back! We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring a tote for grey water and avoid shower house if possible. They're pretty clean but crowded. Look for the beach parking by Fort batteries. Beaches there are almost empty.

Lake Le-Aqua Na State Park, Lena, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The only reason this park does not rate higher is the horrible condition of the road to the campground. It's barely two lanes with deep drop offs and very winding. There are many deep pot holes and its very steep. I don't know what you would do if two big rigs met going opposite ways. The campground itself is very nice with clean bathrooms and a very friendly camp host. They have lots of nice trails and are close to several tourist destinations. We camped at Lake Le-Aqua Na State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Starved Rock State Park, Utica, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park is suffering from a lack of cash. The grounds are not mowed more than once a month. The water pump was broken requiring you to fill tank at host site. Dump station filthy with feces and toilet paper all over and back wash hose broken requiring you to use fresh water pump. Very unsanitary. No ranger at gate shack ever. No security noticed during our 5 days there. Beautiful park but campground almost unusable. We camped at Starved Rock State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pine Country RV & Camping Resort, Belvidere, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2014 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We had a seasonal site here this year due to family and we enjoyed our summer very much. Large sites, many with shade and a beautiful pool are the main draw. The manager is very nice as are her staff. The park has older bath houses and clubhouse but they are clean. The park is surrounded by woods and has a fishing pond. It is also close to Rockford, Chicago and southern Wisconsin. The Wi-Fi is iffy but it's quiet and we will be staying here again We camped at Pine Country RV & Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Red Barn RV Park, Carthage, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed only for one night while traveling. We didn't hook up water or sewer or do much set up so we used showerhouse. Very quiet with very clean restrooms and showers (very old but freshly painted). Asked for a restaurant recommendation and directions to a diesel station. Received both from a friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Big Red Barn RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pontchartrain Landing, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We used our Passport America card and paid $320 for a week. The park is located in an industrial park with a yacht repair business within a stone's throw. It is very noisy early in the morning. There is very little grass and it is very dusty. The pool area is very cool although the hot tub needed cleaning. The restaurant had good food and decent bands. The shuttle was handy and employees nice. Close to New Orleans with easy access to fuel and groceries. Would return. We camped at Pontchartrain Landing in a Motorhome.

North Landing Beach Riverfront Campground and Resort, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2013 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

We called for reservations several months ahead and stayed during the off season. There were not that many campers there. The park is beautiful with a nice beach and great views. The onsite maintenance and office staff were very friendly and nice. It's off the beaten path but not that far. The only problems were the laundry was closed for renovations the entire 2 months we were there (the nearest coin laundry is 20 minutes away and very small), they had several campers with excessive barking dogs (I mean all day while the owners at work) even though they make you sign a separate pet form and the biggest issue is there is no onsite management. All questions require a phone call to an out of state manager. I had trouble getting answers to questions before we got there and during our stay all questions required a phone call. We did enjoy our stay and will come back. We camped at North Landing Beach Riverfront Campground and Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Indian Lakes RV Campground Thousand Trails, Batesville, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Large park with Koa inside of it. Would have been great if the campsites weren't such a mess. Our site was right next to KOA and had two hunks of moldy carpet, garbage, broken down picnic table and no fire ring. The KOA had neat sites that were mowed and nice tables. We drove around for half an hour looking for a decent site and most of them had no defined pad or driveway. Very noisy park due to large number of construction workers living there. We would not stay here again. We camped at Indian Lakes RV Campground Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.
