Burns RV Park, Burns, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Needed a way point stop and found this RV park listed for Burns. Decided to give it a go.

Not too far off our route. Small but extremely well maintained park. There are only about 50 spots of varying sizes. Some pull throughs but more back ins. All sites have 30/50 amp, water and sewer, a picnic table, free wifi, and plenty of space between sites.

Front desk person was extremely friendly.

There is a nice grass area for the dogs, a laundry and a bath/shower house. The showers are extremely small but very well kept.

The grounds are immaculate, and they do have plenty of shaded spots.

Good Verizon service here and they do have a few spots that are good for satellite, including roof mounted.

We would definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Burns RV Park in a Motorhome.

New Frontier RV Park, Winnemucca, Nevada

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Had passed through Winnemucca last year, this year we decided to try a new RV park. And when I say new, I mean New. Recently completed, paved roads, nice level gravel spots, nice amount of space between rigs. They only have one bath/shower house attached to the registration center and is it nice. Nice big tiled stalls, no bumping of your elbows here. The laundry room is very clean and affordable and is air conditioned and has a tv.

They also have a fenced dog run with pebble gravel.

Sites have 30/50 amp, water and sewer. They also offer free wi/fi. Excellent Verizon service here.

There is also a new small casino/restaurant that is within walking distance.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Definitely would recommend this park. We camped at New Frontier RV Park in a Motorhome.

Bonanza Inn and Casino, Fallon, Nevada

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We needed to find a waypoint stop on our way through Nevada and Bonanza advertised that they have RV spots.

It is just a parking lot, but it is paved. FHU for $15 a night, you can't beat that in this day and age.

Luckily we were there mid week so there were one 3 other spots taken out of 20. It would have been very difficult to get into a spot with our 40' motorhome otherwise.

There is a Safeway across the street to stock up on supplies and just down the road there is a gas station that has separate pumps for diesel that you can pull through, very handy.

I actually came out ahead in their casino, so it was a decent one night stop for us. We camped at Bonanza Inn and Casino in a Motorhome.

Tonopah Station RV Park, Tonopah, Nevada

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

By looking online and for the name Tonopah Station RV resort, you will be very disappointed. Definitely not a resort. They do have full hook ups. But I think the service is iffy. Even though it says 50 amps, we were not getting enough power to run two air conditioners.

They have about 15 spots, all back behind the casino in a paved lot. They do have laundry facilities available. If you want to use their showers though, you need to provide $5 ransom for the key. We did not check them out.

Extremely small casino. They do have a few good machines. Interesting thing here is that every time you want to cash out to go to another machine, you have to get a slot person.

For a one night stay, I guess it's okay. But definitely not worth the money. It is easy in and out though. We camped at Tonopah Station RV Park in a Motorhome.

North Ranch - Escapees Rainbow Park, Congress, Arizona

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

A bit hesitant to stop here after reading the reviews, but stopped we did. We are Escapees members. Arrived in the afternoon, summer hours, office is closed from 11:30 to 3:30. I had called the day before to get a bit more information. The gentleman I spoke with was very friendly. Told me where to look for a spot that provided some shade trees and an exposure so our roof mounted satellite would work. Nice, level gravel spots. Wonderful eastern view to see the sunrise over the mountains. Went in to register when the office opened. We were welcomed warmly and shown around the clubhouse. Which is quite nice by the way. Clean bath/showers. Very reasonably priced laundry room. We were told of the upcoming activities and invited to join in. On the tour there was a couple working on a puzzle. They both stopped working and gave us a very heartfelt welcome There is also a smart weigh station at this location. In previous reviews someone mentioned constant trains. We heard very few in our four days here. And the few we did hear were barely audible.

We would definitely stay here again. We camped at North Ranch - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Motorhome.

City of Rocks State Park, Faywood, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We haven't spent any time in New Mexico before and decided to stop here for a few days to check it out.

It is a ways from Deming, out in the middle of nowhere and beautiful. An unexpected surprise to be driving among the flats when you go around a bend a see these unique rock formations.

We checked in and found our reserved spot. We had selected a hook up site, water and electric, no sewer or dump station on the property. The ranger station is small but has quite a bit of information on the park and the critters, plants and how the "city of rocks" was formed. The campground host was nice but not too forthcoming with any information.

They have 4 vault toilets located throughout the campground. There is a bathroom/shower house near the check in that is open from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm at night. They close it at night so that their well can refill.

The hook up sites are right as you come in but the rest of the sites are nestled within the rocks, very cool spots, with some great views.

They are multiple hikes within and around the campground as well as an observation point. They also have a small desert botanical garden. There is a group site available for rent as well.

There is an observatory on the property, unfortunately they didn't offer any programs while we were here.

Lots of bunnies and jack rabbits as well as a large variety of birds.

Coming in on a Sunday was wonderful, very few campers, very quiet and relaxing. We loved being able to look at the stars at night, no light pollution here.

From this campground you can explore Las Cruces, Old Mesilla, Deming, Silver City, Gila Cliff Dwellings and if you have your passport, you can even do a day trip into Palomas Mexico.

This has been one of our better stops on our journeys! Would definitely stay here again if coming through the area. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

Mission Trail MHP and RV Park, El Paso, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Stopped here for a one night stay as we were passing through. It is on the west outskirts of El Paso. There has been some road improvements lately so it's kind of a weird way to get there if you follow your GPS.

Gentleman who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. He was a fountain of information for things to do in El Paso.

The campground itself is mostly gravel, both pull through and back in sites are available. Level sites, neat and clean. Bath/shower houses were clean as well.

They do have any indoor pool and laundry, both of which we did not utilize. They also have a small dog run.

It is close to the highway, but with the heat and the air conditioner running constantly we did not notice it. We camped at Mission Trail MHP and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Balmorhea State Park, Balmorhea, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Booked ourselves a four night stay here in a hook up site, water and electric. (They do have a dump station). Most of the campsites have a picnic shelter as well.

The bathroom/shower was built many moons ago by the CCC. But they are clean and well maintained. They also offer some motel room rentals.

There is a re vegetation project on the property that has some unique fish in it as well as some turtles and catfish. There are also tons of bunnies and road runners around the campground.

There is also a huge natural spring that can be swam, snorkeled and even dived in.

We are from out of state and were not aware that there was an extra usage fee per person, per day due to the natural springs. That ended up costing us an extra $56 and we never even got our feet wet.

I do wish there was a way to opt out of this fee if you are not going to use the spring. We camped at Balmorhea State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Great location for day trips. Not much in the way of a store in Balmorhea, so make sure you stock up before you get there.

Caverns of Sonora RV Park, Sonora, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

What a great stop. We came and stayed a couple of nights in their campground.

The campground consists of a nice tenting area and RV sites. They do have electric and water but no sewer. There is also a bath/shower house. It was clean, but no hot water. The RV sites are very close together.

Went on one of their 1 1/2 -2 hour tours. The guide was excellent.

Have been to quite a few caverns, caves. This one is definitely the best we've ever been to.

Eighty percent of this cave is still alive. A huge difference! Never seen so many different kinds of formations. They keep the entrances sealed so that the fresh air does not kill the formations. There are cement paths and lighting throughout the actual tour. Ended up walking about a mile and a half.

Wear good shoes, it is slippery in some spots. Also, you do not need a coat, it is very warm. With the humidity it is about 85 degrees.

Definitely worth the stop. We camped at Caverns of Sonora RV Park in a Motorhome.

Medina Lake RV Campground - Thousand Trails , Lakehills, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2015
Overall Rating:

Our first trip to this Thousand Trails. We were a bit worried about the drive through San Antonio and making sure we found the correct route to the campground. We had heard horror stories about a few of the options to get to this campground. We were coming from the east. We took 46W to 1283 to 37.

Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly. She asked if we had been here before, we told her no. She was very forthcoming with information on the different areas of the campground. As well as gave us some information about the area and Texas as a whole.

We found our spot and set up.

The next day we took a walk around the campground. This place is huge. And at least right now almost empty.

Quite a few deer strolling around.

We did go down to their activity center for breakfast over the weekend, that was a good deal. Good food, good prices.

Bathroom/showers were clean and a decent size. Depending on what section you are in, most sites seem to be pretty spacious.

One thing we really appreciated was that every time we came in or out of the grounds there was someone in the ranger station. Rangers always came out and said hi.

Too bad the lake is non existent in this area. I'm sure the lack of the lake is affecting the amount of usage this park gets. We camped at Medina Lake RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

Colorado River RV Campground, Columbus, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $3.00
Overall Rating:

Heading west through Texas and decided to take a week long breather here.

Check in was smooth and easy, very friendly ranger. Found our spot and set up.

Guess it's off season here, plenty of spots to choose from. We chose one that was near some friends who had rerouted to meet up with us.

Quite a large campground with a decent amount of space between campers. Many full hook up options, $3 upcharge for 50 amp. Bathrooms are clean, as is the laundry room and the activity center.

They have a small pool, and a large mini golf, basketball court and a unfenced pickleball court. There are also 2 ponds on the property.

There are still a few activities offered.

Large grassy fields. Some a bit overgrown, but found out that was intentional. The local deer and having their little one and the fawns hide out in the grass. We were also lucky enough to see a bobcat while here.

We attempted to take their 2 mile hike around the park, but could not find the trails as it has overgrown.

Propane is also available here.

We camped here in a 40' class A. We camped at Colorado River RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Hidden Lake RV Resort, Beaumont, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Another way point campground on our journey west.

It is about a mile off of I-10, lots of good signage to lead you here.

A smaller campground, tucked back in what seems like nowhere. Very friendly staff upon arrival. Grounds in great shape. Paved roads and pads. Extremely clean bathroom/showers, there are 4 private bathrooms. And a clean affordable laundry room.

They also have a little reception area where you can work on a puzzle, have some coffee and or a complimentary little snack.

They have a private little lake that is fishable, you don't need a license.

Full hook ups, 30/50 amps, free cable and wifi. Good Verizon service here and good satellite reception. Sites each have a nice picnic table and there is more than adequate space between the sites.

It is close to the highway and to some railroad tracks. But you are not bothered by them. We only heard the train two times, late afternoon. They do not seem to travel on these tracks at night.

There seems to be quite a few things to do in the area, we are only here for a day, but looks to be enough to do to warrant a 3-4 day stay.

For discounts they recognize Escapees, Passport America, Good Sam, FMCO and also offer military discounts. We camped at Hidden Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Poche's RV Park, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Heading west and decided to try out this campground. Boy, are we glad we did. The person who checked us in was very helpful and accommodating. We went and found our spot and got set up. Next on the agenda; throwing our lines out into the private ponds on the property. No luck, we didn't really have the right gear, but we had fun. Bait is available in the office. Since we were only here two days decided not to purchase. Gravel roads throughout the park, not too rough. All sites have cement pads, full hook ups. Decent amount of space between rigs. Most sites are on the ponds. Grounds were immaculate. Bathrooms, laundry and pool very clean. Free wifi. They have a clubhouse and a screened pavillion. Small play set for the kiddos. They also have a few cabins for rent. Good satellite and verizon service. Would definitely recommend this property. We camped at Poche's RV Park in a Motorhome.

Campgrounds of the South, Gulfport, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for three days on our way west. Not far from Gulfport proper and

easy access to 90 for the scenic Mississippi Gulf Coast Drive. We broke it up into

two days, went east one day and west the other. About 10 miles from Biloxi.

Easy access to I-10. Lots of shopping, malls and outlet stores nearby if that's

your thing.

Very friendly, helpful staff.

A bit noisy, as it is right next to the freeway. But, with the warm temps and air

conditioning running most of the time, you don't hear it.

Full hook ups 30/50 with cable. Both pull through and back in sites.

Unfortunately, while we were here there were flood watches, warnings the whole time.

Pretty much constant rain, thunder and lightening.

The campground was soaked. The actual sites were raised a bit and dry but getting to them and

out of them meant driving through some HUGE puddles.

Bathrooms with showere were clean, okay. Not the best and definitely not the worst we have see

during our travels. Was told there is a laundry room but did not utilize it.

Great spot for an overnight, or if you plan on spending your days exploring the coast. Not a

destination in itself.

They do accept Passport America. We camped at Campgrounds of the South in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Our second stay here. A great location between Mobil and the Gulf Coast.

A nice RV community, Escapees owned and ran. Very friendly people, lots of organized events and activities. A nice clubhouse with a book exchange, pool and very nice laundry.

There are two shower rooms in the registration building.

Large full hook up spots, both 30 and 50. Shaded and open available.

They also have a fenced dog run.

Plenty of walking opportunities on the grounds. We camped at Rainbow Plantation - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Motorhome.
