Codorus State Park, Hanover, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Typical Pennsylvania State Park. Electric hook but no water hook up. Large sites, not very level in any direction. Bring a lot of leveling blocks. The Star of this park is Lake Marburg. 1200 acres of Kayaking, canoeing and boating (20 hp motor max.) strictly enforced. Park also has horseback trails and mountain bike trails. Great area to tour by motorcycle. Not so great for bicycle, lots of hills. Close to Hanover PA pretzel and potato chip factories. Gettysburg is about a half hour away. Gave this an 8 rating due to no water hook up. Many of the water spigots in campground have no threads to hook up a hose. The is potable water at dump station to fill your tank prior to going to your site. Loop D is in a field 50 amp service available in loop D. A road leads off Loop D to to a boat launch area. We camped at Codorus State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring your Kayak or Canoe, make sure you have your PFD's. The rangers are on the water checking. We got stopped twice. Great fishing, birdwatching. For shopping Hanover has 2 Walmarts, several grocery stores and one Hobby Lobby (a favorite of my better half). Downtown Hanover is very quaint with shops restaurants and more. Bike riding on the roads could be dangerous. Go out in large groups for safety, lots of hills.

Beacon Hill Campground (Ages16+), Intercourse, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We come here a couple times per year. Great location to do the tourist thing in Lancaster County. Sites are a little small but we don't come here for the camping experience. We use it as a Base camp for going to concerts, shows, etc. Krista in the office is terrific to work with for reservations and when you arrive. We usually make new friends with other campers. We camped at Beacon Hill Campground (Ages16+) in a Travel Trailer.

Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Park is approx 3 miles north of Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Fairly open sites. Only reason a 9 instead of 10 is the standing water from rain. Location on Chesapeake Bay. Great fishing pier for birdwatching, kayaking and relaxing. Also for sunsets. About 1.5 hours to Williamsburg and touristy stuff. Cape Charles is a very nice place to spend a day, shops and dining. Not very level take leveling blocks. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are grass, fairly level. Some under trees some in full sun. Very nice people in the office. Half the campground seemed to be seasonal, mostly in one section of the campground. Transient sites had water, electric and sewer. Follow directions from campground website to get to campground. We camped at Sunflower Acres Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

About 25 minutes from Corning. Corning Museum of glass is fantastic, lots of hands on things to do. Corning's Gaffer district for food and drink, also free concerts in the square. Close to the Finger lakes for winery tours. Little known gem is the Glenn H Curtis Museum in Hammondsport NY, approx 45 minutes from campground. Lots of Wineries, Micro breweries and coffee shops in the area. Do your research before you go so you can map out a trail of wineries to visit.

Cape Henlopen State Park, Lewes, Delaware

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

First stay here after remodel of campground. They did a very good job redesigning to accommodate those of us in travel trailers. Many pull throughs for larger units. Many sites have very short driveways that hold only a vehicle, pop up or tear drop. Overall a nice mix of sizes for the sites. There is a couple of tent only areas. The park has great beaches on both the ocean and the bay. Miles of Bike trails one will lead you into Rehoboth Beach to avoid traffic. We camped at Cape Henlopen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Gifford Pinchot State Park, Lewisberry, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Restrooms very old and in dire need of remodeling, however they were clean. We stayed in pet area, only 10 spaces were full hookup, other than those there was electric only on the outer loop no hookup on inner loop. Was was over 300 feet away from our site. This campground is in need of updating. Kind of disappointing as in most Pennsylvania state parks that there are signs that prevent you from walking your dog around the campground. Can only walk them in the pet loop. That meant having to drive to different location to get to the lake.

Beautiful lake, nice day use facility. Due to weather we could only take kayaks on the lake for one day out of 4, Too much Wind and rain.

Never saw a ranger or state park personnel. There were two camp hosts. Plenty of trash cans by entrance to park, No recycle containers.

Due to limited water hookups and the pet restrictions, We will not go back to this campground. We camped at Gifford Pinchot State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a destination campground. York, Carlisle and Harrisburg are 30-45 minutes away. The attraction is the lake and trails. If you are hiking beware of the bikes on the trails, Mountain bikers race through and you and they can't always see each other due to the terrain.

Nice Base Camp for Pennsylvania Dutch area. Small sites, once trailer on site could not leave truck there, hard to park in lot or on street behind campground. Amish family came around on Friday and Saturday evening to sell baked goods. Cool Experience, tasted good too. Very close to Kitchen Kettle Shops. Outlet shopping 15 minutes away. Janes Island State Park, Crisfield, Maryland

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Second trip here. First one in spring. Lots of rain causing standing water in town of Crisfield, not too bad in campground. When sun came out we were inundated with mosquitoes and no-see-ums. Once in a kayak on the water bugs were not bad at all. Breeze kept them down. We will go back just not in late spring. Fishing was good, stripers and speckled trout. Good site facing the water in pet loop. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in pull through site with full hookup. Sites very close together. Narrow roads. The pool area looked very nice with a good size to it. The best thing about this park is the free shuttle to Hersheypark, saves a bunch on parking fees. The drive through light display across from the park is worth the $23 price per car to go through. Hickory Run State Park, White Haven, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in Pet loop with full hook up (W/E/S). Sites back up to Rt 540, no road noise as long as trailer windows were closed. Sites are on edge of a field, no shade in summer. Park has miles and miles of hiking trails and biking trails. Close to Lehigh Gorge State park with thier 25 mile rail trail for bikes and foot travel. Lots of hunting and fishing opportunities. Boulder field felt like a bit of a letdown, not as large or impressive as one in Lenhartsville PA (blue Rocks Family Campground is at base of this boulder field). Overall Hickory Run is a nice destination park. There are black bears in the park. We saw two, a baby one day and a fully grown the next day. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Travel Trailer.
