Shabbona Lake State Park, Shabbona, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice campground spots either on the lake or in the woods. Our site was very level and backed up to the lake. The pit toilets were atrocious, but the flush toilets and showers were newer and very clean. The roads are all paved and the sites are older gravel. Very quiet and peaceful after Labor Day. Camp host We stayed here on a week day after Labor Day and it was very quiet. The sites are close together, so if it were busy I can imagine it might be hectic. But for our stay it was terrific. The roads are paved, sites are gravel or grass. Bathrooms are new and very nice. The owners were very friendly and helpful. As very friendly and helpful. We camped at Shabbona Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Ohiopyle State Park, Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Make sure you have the campground and not the town of Ohiopyle on your maps for directions! They are two very different places and the town is at the bottom of a very, very steep ravine. Use the Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle road out of the town of Chalk Hill if you are pulling a trailer. The campground is at the top of a very large hill. Others have said the sites were level, but ours was definitely not, sloping well to the back. Also, as others have said, we could notg find water to fill our tank and had to use our 6 gallon jug to do so from the bathroom spigot. We were here on a very quiet day and the only noise at night were the distant trains, which was nice. Cell service was good. Bathrooms were old but clean, We camped at Ohiopyle State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Charles Mears State Park, Pentwater, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Very quiet at night at our end of the park across from the camp host. Until Monday at 7:30 am when the garbage truck showed up. Sites are asphalt and sand. And very close together. We had a little difficulty getting backed in to our site because the road was narrow and the sites are not very deep. Nice fire pit. One bathroom in the middle of the park for the whole park. We camped at Charles Mears State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Alamo City RV Park, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

When we checked in, the employee at the desk seemed confused by the site we had been allotted, so he checked with the owner (I presume) and she changed us to another site. She told him it would hold a 30 foot rig, so I told her we were 45 feet with truck and trailer. Her reply was we could park the truck next to the trailer. That is fine, we have done that many times before. However, the spot she tried to shoehorn us into was not even big enough for our rig. We would have been 2 feet from someone on one side, and there was no way our truck would have fit on the other side as there was another back in spot right there. I have never seen such a bad site in all our many, many nights of camping. But what really got me was they were not full. I felt like she just tried to shove us in somewhere so she could keep sites open in case they needed them for someone else. Gotta get that last dollar. I have never refused a site before, but we refused the site and they finally came up with one that we could pull into. We were told that that section is slated to be redone soon. That said, the rest of the park is coming along nicely. There are some gravel and some concrete sites with grass between. Most seem to have picnic tables and are pretty level. Unfortunately there are only 4 shared bathroom/shower rooms for the entire park. Seems like way too few for this big of a park. The bus stop out front was convenient for accessing downtown. And the wifi actually worked well even when the park was full. We camped at Alamo City RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Garner State Park, Concan, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Our rate reflects the camping fee plus the day use fee. We stayed here at the beginning of TX spring break. This is a giant park with hundreds of sites and we managed to get one for one night only. When we arrived at about 2:00 in the afternoon there was an extremely long line to check in. Both for day use and camping. To check in for camping, you have to take a number - they were on 64 when we arrived and we had number 3. It was absolute chaos at the check in station. So we threw away our number, got in our truck and drove past the gate keeper, who was checking in day use people, and went to our site. When we went back an hour or so later, they were only on number 86. So we went for a bike ride. At 4:30 there were even more people waiting outside so we did not even bother to ever check in. That said, our site was very nice, with shade trees and a picnic table. It was wide enough for us to disconnect and park the truck next to our trailer. And it was actually very, very quiet overnight. We were in the Rio Frio loop, which is nearest to the highway, so there was a little road noise. But the trade off was we had good ATT service. On the negative side, one of the bathhouses was missing from the loop...looked like a new one was under construction, but that left only one for quite a large area and a lot of people. I would definitely come here again, but never in March. We camped at Garner State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Seminole Canyon State Park, Comstock, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

All the roads in are paved, as are all the site. Each site is electric and water hook up with a covered picnic table. Sites are very well spaced. Restrooms were very clean. We had plenty of ATT service. Staff was very helpful. I was unable to make a same day reservation and I called the staff and they did it for me over the phone. There was some road noise from Hwy 90. We camped at Seminole Canyon State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is your basic gravel parking lot RV park. Easy in and out. We parked in the overflow on grass, but we had electric and water. No cable at those sights. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. Quail Springs RV Park, Uvalde, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Helpful, friendly, pretty, shady, well maintained, lots of cable channels. Cheap laundry (but must start last load by 3:30 as it is not open after 5. Easy in. Close to HEB. All the things one could want when one stays in an RV park. The only ding is for the road noise. But that died down at night to pretty much nothing. Manzano's RV Park, Silver City, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

his park was absolutely adorable. First off, make sure you call ahead, as there is not always someone on site if you just drive in. The roads are gravel and there is a lot of vegetation in and amongst the sites. They are pretty close together, but they are so well kept, we didn't mind that. We had no trouble getting level. The club house houses the bathrooms and laundry and it is closed at night. Opens at 7. The road in is a bit washboarded, but not bad. We camped at Manzano's RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Faywood Hot Springs, Faywood, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We would only go back here to soak in the pools, because we love doing that. The campground leaves much to be desired as do the grounds in their entirety. Everything seems very run down. Many dead trees. The fences around the pools are falling down and the structures also seem to be in disrepair. We stayed in the clothing required area, and the campsites that are on the outside would have been ok. We got one that was next to the club house and there were 4 or 5 us us sort of jammed in there. Hard to actually tell where we were supposed to be until a worker helped us. Employees and campers were all very nice and friendly. Spotty ATT cell service and no wifi. We camped at Faywood Hot Springs in a Travel Trailer.

Temecula / Vail Lake KOA, Temecula, California

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This park looks like it has been on hard times for a while, but it is in the process of becoming a KOA, so I imagine a lot of work will be done to bring it up to their standards. That said, it is not there yet. The road in is riddled with huge pot holes. The electric box at our site was looked suspect, but worked OK. (Note, the outlet is in the bottom of the box, you don't have to open the box.) Our site was up on a ridge and had a nice view. I have never seen such a huge, meandering campground. There are two pools, I think, a pickle ball court, a basketball court, mini golf, a store, a bar, mountain bike trails, and a lake, but we never could figure out how to get to the lake. I am sure once this place is ship shape, the prices will go into the KOA realm, but for now we thought it was OK for the price. We camped at Temecula / Vail Lake KOA in a Travel Trailer.

William Heise County Park, Julian, California

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This park is absolutely lovely. Rolling hills and meandering roads make it seem very remote, but it is only 5 miles from Julian. The campsites are very spacious are paved and have picnic tables, and fire rings. Very well maintained. Bathrooms/showers were clean and heated. There is an excellent hike up to a ridge where you can see both the ocean and the Salton Sea. We camped at William Heise County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Morena County Park, Campo, California

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

We came here after our first choice, a national forest site was closed due to the government shut down. Turns out it is quite a nice place. Lots of site that are very well placed and shaded. Roads are paved, sites are gravel with picnic tables and fire rings. Lots of grass between sites. It was quiet when we were there, but it was winter. Bathrooms are not heated. There is a nice loop hike that incorporates part of the PCT. Good ATT service, non existent Verizon service. We camped at Lake Morena County Park in a Travel Trailer.

River Walk RV Park, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Town has grown up around this park. As other reviewers have said, the right turn off the main road is tight - more than a 90 degree angle. The roads are paved, but the sites are large, rocky gravel. The spaces are very close together. Try for site 5 as the one next door has a tree and picnic table in it and I don't think they put people there too often. The water is high pressure so a regulator is needed. Lots of road/urban noise. Lots of full timers/worker guys. But it is very tidy and did quiet down at night. The staff was person was perfunctory when we pulled in, but when I had called earlier, I got a very friendly person. The plus side of this place is that it is right in town and right on the bike path. There is a nice boardwalk on the river walking distance from the park. We camped at River Walk RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
