Temecula / Vail Lake KOA, Temecula, California

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This park looks like it has been on hard times for a while, but it is in the process of becoming a KOA, so I imagine a lot of work will be done to bring it up to their standards. That said, it is not there yet. The road in is riddled with huge pot holes. The electric box at our site was looked suspect, but worked OK. (Note, the outlet is in the bottom of the box, you don't have to open the box.) Our site was up on a ridge and had a nice view. I have never seen such a huge, meandering campground. There are two pools, I think, a pickle ball court, a basketball court, mini golf, a store, a bar, mountain bike trails, and a lake, but we never could figure out how to get to the lake. I am sure once this place is ship shape, the prices will go into the KOA realm, but for now we thought it was OK for the price. We camped at Temecula / Vail Lake KOA in a Travel Trailer.

William Heise County Park, Julian, California

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This park is absolutely lovely. Rolling hills and meandering roads make it seem very remote, but it is only 5 miles from Julian. The campsites are very spacious are paved and have picnic tables, and fire rings. Very well maintained. Bathrooms/showers were clean and heated. There is an excellent hike up to a ridge where you can see both the ocean and the Salton Sea. We camped at William Heise County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Morena County Park, Campo, California

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

We came here after our first choice, a national forest site was closed due to the government shut down. Turns out it is quite a nice place. Lots of site that are very well placed and shaded. Roads are paved, sites are gravel with picnic tables and fire rings. Lots of grass between sites. It was quiet when we were there, but it was winter. Bathrooms are not heated. There is a nice loop hike that incorporates part of the PCT. Good ATT service, non existent Verizon service. We camped at Lake Morena County Park in a Travel Trailer.

River Walk RV Park, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Town has grown up around this park. As other reviewers have said, the right turn off the main road is tight - more than a 90 degree angle. The roads are paved, but the sites are large, rocky gravel. The spaces are very close together. Try for site 5 as the one next door has a tree and picnic table in it and I don't think they put people there too often. The water is high pressure so a regulator is needed. Lots of road/urban noise. Lots of full timers/worker guys. But it is very tidy and did quiet down at night. The staff was person was perfunctory when we pulled in, but when I had called earlier, I got a very friendly person. The plus side of this place is that it is right in town and right on the bike path. There is a nice boardwalk on the river walking distance from the park. We camped at River Walk RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Devil's Elbow Campground (BLM), Butte, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

Wonderfully peaceful - on a Monday. This campground was very quiet on the Monday we were there, silent at night. Lovely overlook of the river from several sites. Sites are very widely spaced, gravel, with picnic tables and fire pits. Unfortunately they have lost a lot of trees in the past couple years, so there is not much shade. The pit toilets were pristine, but there were no campers in that part of the park. There is potable water and a hose to fill water tanks! A walking path goes over to the day use area. I understand that on Wednesday thru Saturday, this is not such a peaceful place as it fills up with families, boaters, fisher people, jet skiers, etc... Some of the sites are reservable. We camped at Devil's Elbow Campground (BLM) in a Travel Trailer.

Medina City Campground, Medina, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is far enough away from the highway to minimize the road noise at night. All the sites are grass and back into the city park area from a gravel road. They defiantly slope to the back. We managed to snag a shaded site on the east side of the park. Lots of trains, but not at night. The restrooms were fairly clean but the showers seemed a little suspect. The dump station is next to the restrooms and pay box. We had no trouble using it. I would definitely stop here again for an overnight. ATT cell service was great. When I called/emailed to ask if they had openings, I got a response quickly - on a Saturday! We camped at Medina City Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Hoffman Park, River Falls, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This small city park is first come first serve and was almost full when we arrived. Apparently they are usually full during the summer, so we were happy to have snagged a spot. Roads and sites are paved with grass and a picnic table. The children's play area is very close as is the ball field. The dump station is on the way in/out, but it does not have potable water. There is a spigot and hose over by the play area that is for potable water in the tanks. Other reviewers are correct, the power poles were clearly put in by non-campers, or someone who didn't want to spend much $$. We had to park way to one side of the asphalt to get our cord to reach.... Price has gone up to $20. The host was very friendly and helpful. Mostly quiet, but there was road noise from the nearby highway. We camped at Hoffman Park in a Travel Trailer.

Buffalo KOA , Buffalo, Wyoming

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second overnight stay at this KOA. Their official spring opening date is 4/15, but know if they are there earlier than that they will be open - we have done this twice. So call and check. Sites are level and gravel, some with cement pad, but close together. Showers/bathrooms and clean. Wifi worked great - but we were the only ones here. Staff is very friendly. We camped at Buffalo KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Boise Riverside RV Park, Boise, Idaho

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Unfortunately the path was flooded when we were there, so we were not able to explore it as we would have liked. I understand this is a common occurrence in the spring. Sites were very close together and ours was very short. Gravel base and not level. Some of the sites are actually on grass. Good location for exploring Boise. Laundry, showers and bathrooms were very clean. Staff was very friendly. We camped at Boise Riverside RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Fort Bridger RV Camp, Fort Bridger, Wyoming

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is located well away from the freeway, so there is no road noise. The sites are in a open grassy area. Sites were very level. The road is dirt, so there were a lot of puddles this time of year. There were a few long termers. We were the only short termers there so the wifi worked great. Bathrooms, shower rooms and laundry were very clean and tidy. Staff was very friendly. Cell service worked well. We camped at Fort Bridger RV Camp in a Travel Trailer.

Maple Leaf RV Park, Morgan Hill, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

We were not optimistic after reading reviews about this place. However, we were pleasantly surprised. It is very neat and clean. Bathrooms and laundry were old but tidy. $1.50 for wash and same for dry. It is jam packed and we may have gotten the only site left. Many permanent trailers that have been brought in by the owners and many long termers from the looks of things. The sites are very close together but are concrete with fake grass in between. The staff was helpful and friendly and it was very quiet when we were here. We had the windows closed and did not hear any road noise. Cell service was good, which seems to be an issue with other parks that are not close to the road here. We camped at Maple Leaf RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Spring Lake Park, Santa Rosa, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground full of oaks dripping with Spanish Moss. The terrain undulates, so some of the spots are high and some low and widely spaced. The road and sites are all paved. Our site was plenty large enough for our trailer and truck. Some of the sites looked pretty short. I don't think anything too large would fit in here. We did have to level a bit side to side. Bathrooms are very tired and old, but clean. It was a good location for exploring the area. The coast is within an hour and Armstrong Woods is a great place to see redwoods. Good ATT cell service. We camped at Spring Lake Park in a Travel Trailer.

Oxbow Regional Park (BLM), Ehrenberg, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

This is BLM land. Our rate reflects 50% off. We loved this campground, even if it was just a dirt parking lot. We stayed on the Oxbow lake side, as opposed to the Colorado River side. The sites aren't really designated, we just pulled up where we wanted. Our spot backed right up to the water. We were able to paddle the lake and ride the gravel roads in the area. Very quiet and dark at night. There is traffic on the gravel road, but not a lot, and none at night. The road in is a bit washboarded, but it isn't very long. We had 1 or 2 bars of ATT LTE. We camped at Oxbow Regional Park (BLM) in a Travel Trailer.

Squaw Lake BLM, Winterhaven, California

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

Our rate is 1/2 price. This is a nice campground for the lake and some fun hiking or gravel bike riding. The campground itself seems like it was once just a parking lot and then someone decided to make it a pay camping spot. We got lucky and were not near anyone using a generator. It was easy access for the kayak to the lake/river. There were some day use people bringing their boats, but the water seemed quite low, so not too many. At the end of the upper parking lot there is a trail that goes behind the hills and there are quite a few trails back there to explore. Showers/bathrooms were clean. Showers are pay - $1 for 7 minutes. ATT was nonexistent until we were packing to go, then we had 3 bars of LTE. Go figure. We camped at Squaw Lake BLM in a Travel Trailer.

Rivers Edge RV Resort, Winterhaven, California

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This park should be called Freeway's Edge as it is sandwiched between the freeway and the river. The two pros it has going for it is the nice shade trees and the clean large restrooms/showers. Otherwise, it is so close to the freeway that we had difficulty sleeping even with all the windows closed. It was so noisy we spent no time outdoors at our site. The sites are perpendicular to the road, not very deep and very close to one another, so backing in was a challenge. The road in has several speed bumps that are really high and were hard on everything in the trailer. We were in site 422 Owl Lane and had an occasional sewer smell from somewhere. There were more over the air TV channels than there were cable channels (all of 5). Our two interactions with the staff in the office were rather unpleasant as both workers were unfriendly. And lastly, a they charge $2.50 for a wash and $2.50 for a dry - using tokens that can only be purchased in twos and cannot be returned if unused. All in all, we disliked this park more than anywhere else we have stayed. We will not return. We camped at Rivers Edge RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.
