PA Dutch Country RV Resort, Manheim, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

My wife, adult daughter, and I spent a long weekend at PA Dutch Country RV Resort in July 2019 and had a great experience. Unlike most Thousand Trails parks, we were met at check in by a ranger who drove us on his golf cart to examine available campsites that would fit our rig. This was much nicer than the usual "Thousand Trails Shuffle" of driving one's own rig around and around in the park looking for a campsite. Our site was mostly level, fully shaded, and more than long enough for our 37 foot motorhome and toad. The staff were universally friendly, and nice activities such as hay rides, crafts, and even an ice-cream party were offered for the kids. The pool is on the small side but well maintained. The free miniature golf course was one of the best we've found at a campground with a good combination of easy and challenging holes. The only thing detracting from the camping experience is the location of a shooting range not far from the campground, so the sound of gunfire was fairly regular through the daylight hours. The road into the park (Lehman Road) is not well marked and hard to see. There is no break in the painted lines on the highway, and there is no "Thousand Trails" sign. In fact, the sign still reads "Outdoor World." If coming from the north it's IMMEDIATELY after the Martin RV sales lot. We camped at PA Dutch Country RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Buffalo Bill's Resort & Casino, Primm, Nevada

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This casino has a large parking area where we were able to get away from the noise of the nearby truck stop. The lot is mostly level, and the price is right - Free. There are lots of restaurants in the area, and a Starbucks within walking distance at the truck stop. We camped at Buffalo Bill's Resort & Casino in a Motorhome.

Thousand Trails / Morgan Hill RV Resort, Morgan Hill, California

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This small park is one of the best maintained in the Thousand Trails system. In 2018 they invested $2 Million in the park's infrastructure, and plan to spend an additional $1M in 2019. Our site was level and very spacious with a gravel drive and a large grass lawn, separated from the next site by a decorative fence. Some sites were smaller, but there were many like ours in the 30 amp area. There are a limited amount of 50 amp sites at this time. Because of ecological considerations there are only a few sites with sewer hookup. There is a honeywagon available for $25, but since it was not very difficult to move our motorhome we simply went to one of the several dump stations twice during our stay. Most campers had those little pull-behind poop wagons to carry their waste to the dump station, but that's not our thing! The pool is large and well maintained. There are scheduled activities throughout the summer for families. Some people complain that the park is too strict in enforcing their rules (eg 5mph throughout the park), but we had no problems and found the staff to be friendly and helpful throughout. We camped at Thousand Trails / Morgan Hill RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve, Paicines, California

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

We were leery of staying at a campground that is remote. Closest grocery store is 25 minutes away, but it's really nice here. The park has recently upgraded one section with 50 amp hookups. We especially enjoyed all the wildlife. We spotted acorn woodpeckers, yellow-billed magpies, quail, western bluebirds, scrub jays, morning doves, an occasional hawk. Also California ground squirrels, wild pigs, deer, a fox and her cubs, and a bobcat. Tree frogs at night sing in loud chorus. All this in a spacious campsite with friendly neighbors and sunsets (usually undramatic but still marking the end of another day) over the mountains. This is an older campground and shows some wear and tear around the edges. The grounds could be better maintained (Grass cut, trees trimmed, etc), but the staff is friendly and it's a great place to spend some time if you're looking for a remote, quiet campground, dark sky at night, and beautiful vistas. We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Motorhome.

Thousand Trails Las Vegas RV Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

LOCATION, location, location. It's completely unfair to compare this park to one of the rural Thousand Trails locations. It's located in the city near a major highway. There are no pickle ball courts, volley ball courts, or children's programs. But it does have level, gravel sites that are large enough for your RV, although fairly close to your neighbors. There are clean (though dated) restrooms and showers. The power is reliable and the water pressure is strong. The people are friendly and helpful. And the location is excellent for visiting Las Vegas and surrounding attractions. We'd certainly stay here again if we are in Vegas. We camped at Thousand Trails Las Vegas RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Voyager RV Resort & Hotel, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Simply one of the best parks we've stayed in. The sites are large and level, the people are welcoming and helpful, and the amenities are out of this world. There is always something going on, from concerts, to crafts of every kind you can imagine, to current event discussion groups, and of course Pickle Ball. This is an active, vibrant community that makes everyone feel at home. We camped at Voyager RV Resort & Hotel in a Motorhome.

Tra-Park RV Park - Escapees Rainbow Park, Pecos, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great place to stop between Big Bend and Carlsbad. It’s a dusty park in a dusty town, but the staff are pleasant, the sites are level, and the price is right. We camped at Tra-Park RV Park - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Motorhome.

Lazydays RV Campground, Seffner, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful park with great staff. All sites are paved. Very nice pool and rally center (which has seminars, ping pong, pool, arcade games, etc.) The on-site restaurant is cleverly decorated to look like a Class A RV. The sites are close together, but do have patio and picnic table. Just fit our 37 foot motorhome. I saw some larger motorhomes that stuck out into the street a little. We camped at Lazydays RV Campground in a Motorhome.

The Oaks at Point South RV, Yemassee, South Carolina

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

As you might guess from the name, this is a park filled with beautiful trees covered in Spanish Moss. The people are very friendly and our site was a good size pull through. All the sites are pull through. The only negative was that there were many large puddles after a rain that took a couple of days to drain. Our site was dry, but some were not. We camped at The Oaks at Point South RV in a Motorhome.

Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, Jacksonville, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of our favorite campgrounds, and we make it a point to stop each year as we enter Florida from the north. The campsites are spacious and clean. It was clear that the hosts had raked the areas around the utility post and fire pit. Most sites have a very private feel, as though you are surrounded by Florida jungle. It's just a short walk to the beach or a fresh water lake. Many guests use the park for off-road biking. Beautiful. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Site 269 looks like a pull-through, but it's not. We pulled in nose first so that we'd have privacy in our sitting area, but you could back in if you prefer. We parked the car on the other end of the "pull-through-looking" site, with the fire pit between RV and car.

Deep Branch Family Campground, Milton, Delaware

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has both wooded sites and sites in an open field. There are no full hookups, but there is a free pump-out service that can be requested with a maximum of 24-hour notice (Several times I saw the "honey wagon" driving through the park and simply flagged them down when I needed a pump out). The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a small cafe in the office, firewood for sale, and a nice swimming pool. A short drive to shore destinations. Shopping and good restaurants nearby. Most of the sites are rented seasonally with many transient sites in the open area, but others scattered throughout the wooded area. Because of the great price it may be hard to book on weekends during the high season. DOG OWNERS be aware that the campground requires proof of rabies vaccination. We camped at Deep Branch Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Edisto Beach State Park, Edisto Island, South Carolina

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at the beach campground and had a magnificent experience. The park personnel are friendly and helpful, our site was large and level. We had a marsh-view site where it was beautiful to watch the tide rise and fall and birds swim and fish in the salt marsh just a few yards behind our motorhome. While there are no ocean view sites, beach access is easy via several walkways through the dunes. This is a pet-friendly park which was great for our three dogs. The only reasons I give a 9 rather than a 10 are that 1) The drinking water is somewhat salty. We had already read about this before arriving and just used water from our fresh-water tank for drinking. 2) Our site (and maybe a couple of others) was slightly flooded during a particularly high-tide. This was not a problem since the site is so large and we were able to move forward onto a dry portion after waking up our first morning to find our back wheels and picnic area under a couple of inches of water. The water receded that day, and never returned, allowing us a happy campfire the next night. We camped at Edisto Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Mahlon Dickerson Reservation, Jefferson Township, New Jersey

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

If you love the great outdoors and don't want or need lots of planned recreational activities, this may well be the best campground in New Jersey. At $20/night ($25 if you make a reservation), you'll get a paved parking space. Most are level. The campground host is very knowledgable and helpful. Sites are large and wooded and beautiful. Most water hookups are to long hoses that snake from a few central locations, and in a few cases you'll need an extra long hose to reach them, but it's worth the effort. Quite and peaceful. Deep in the woods, but only a few miles from great restaurants, a shopping mall, and theater. We camped at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

However many days you plan to stay here, plan to stay a few more. This is a simply beautiful park with spacious campsites, many of which are pet friendly. There are many hiking trails, and access to the Great Allegheny Rail Trail for bicycling directly from the campground. Nearby Ohiopyle has more great hiking, biking, and river activities. We camped at Ohiopyle State Park in a Motorhome.

The site we stayed on was electric-only, and water hookups were not available nearby, so come with a full tank. Firewood available on site. Follow the campground's direction to avoid a 9% grade hill between Ohiopyle and the campsites. The hill inside the campground is also very steep. Use low gear.
